I bought the knock off chinese ones on amazon. They are exactly the same as the vw ones, but debadged without the logo. They’ve worked just fine for me anyway!

The "door edge guard" is absolute trash and 100% pure profit. You can get the same kit on Amazon for around $20. And the dealers cost is going to be even lower because they buy a roll in bulk.

These work for that.
This style cover works as the entire fob is clipped in and you use a ring or latch on the cover for keys instead of directly on the fob loop. I can attest that the ID4 fob fits in fine in Golf 8 leather covers like this. If you don’t like this one there are others to pick from.

The wiring harness should be on the bottom of the bumper next to the receiver. If you have a receiver but no wiring harness (I believe this is how all the 1st Editions shipped), you can easily install this harness yourself. Takes a screwdriver and about 10 minutes, and you'll be ready to go. If you have a 4 pin trailer, you can connect /u/Nicht1menschlichFrau's adapter to this harness.
I agree, $300 on a $40k car seems like a drop in the bucket.
I found the kit on Amazon but you might find it cheaper through an actual dealer.

I bought this one and it works well, even when it can't velcro to the carpet (it's wings are quite heavy). It will topple if it's loaded and you like to corner though.
You can't without an OBD Bluetooth dongle and an app. I use the LeLink2 https://www.amazon.com/LELink-Bluetooth-Energy-OBD-II-Diagnostic/dp/B00QJRYMFC (it's a BLE single compatible with both iPhone and Android) and for the app I use Car Scanner by 0vZ: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ovz.carscanner
Electricity America must be getting tired of the complaints. On the newer Electrify America station software it displays both the current charge rate and the charge level the car requests, so you can tell if a slow charging problem is the car or the charger.
I use car seat protectors that go under the carseat, which catches most of the stuff, but doesn't seem to impact safety as much, since the back of the carseat is still right against the seat itself.

Keruida Level 1 EV Charger 16Amp... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MHV9MRN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
We have a 20amp level one plug and it works great for that. The electrician installed the plug and the charger. He said the charger was fine and it’s worked flawlessly daily for 4 months. The adjustability of the amps is really great. We leave the VW one in the trunk. We’ve only used it like you mentioned- at the in laws for a top off overnight as we’re unfamiliar with their charging options there (they’re pretty terrible so glad we had it). As of right now we have no need for level 2 and aren’t getting that installed anytime soon.
Looks alot like my setup. Might want to add these to protect from the muddy feet on the back of the front seats.

However, ABRP has a warning about this and most dongles in that they just broadcast their Bluetooth connection, so theoretically anyone within physical distance can connect with it.
Actually the best value in charging cables is probably the Tesla Mobile Connector for $200. It works on 120V and 240V and is much cheaper than anything else in its class.
The "catch" of course, is it has a Tesla plug and doesn't fit the ID4. That has a silver lining too, though. It forces you to buy one of these for $159:
https://www.amazon.com/Lectron-Charging-Compatible-Connectors-Destination/dp/B09DCTJCTV/
This will allow you to plug the Tesla adapter into your ID4, as well as use free Tesla Destination Chargers at hotels, restaurants, etc. when you're on the road. And the $360 this combo costs is still competitive with charge cords that fit the ID4 out of the box.
Otherwise, the "official" $350 VW 120V/240V cord made by Webasto is a reasonable deal for the money, but as other Redditors have pointed out, some Ford Mustang Mach-E owners have had overheating problems with the Ford-branded version.
So I found this on Amazon. That's what you're thinking of? I saw some chargers for less than $200 that I was considering before I posted here. So, $500 (with a $70 coupon) feels like a lot and right now. I don't have any 240V places that I'm planning to charge other than my home charger which will require a specific model of level 2 charger (ChargePoint Home Flex or Enel X JuiceBox).
Yep. Hasn't been nearly a year though.. time does fly. Got them off amazon. Working great. Like the day I put them on. And carbon fiber door pieces off eBay. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MP33L72/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

For an aftermarket hitch, you just have to take off the rear bumper, remove some of the bolts that hold on the crash bar, put on the hitch, and put in some new longer bolts. Youtube link It took me about 3 hours, but I was going slow and being very careful not to scratch.
In terms of the wiring, it can be done DIY. There is a $150 no cut wiring kit LINK. It is not hard to install, and only real option is how you want to supply power. I am planning to power from the 12v outlet in the trunk. Going to wire the harness with a barrel connector, have it come out the grill by the 12v, and then have a cigarette lighter with the corresponding barrel connector on it. That was I only have to power it when I plan to use it, and a small piece of velcro will keep the power cord attached near the grill area.
I purchased this Lectron unit. It seems to be working out well so far. There's quite a few brands with what looks like the same charger, though, so it's probably just a badged version of a generic charger.

indeed an annoying design choice, but my workaround is to use the immediate climate control touch screen option or un-buckling / re-buckling the seat belt before my weight shifts off...a bit of an effort and flexibility move, but works well...i may just get the seat belt buckle from amazon like this: https://www.amazon.com/2PACKS-Silencer-Tongue-Universal-Vehicle-Black/dp/B08V3V9Y1R/ref=sr\_1\_13?crid=7XI8XI7BWMNU&keywords=car+seat+belt+clip+extender&qid=1658716424&sprefix=Car+Seat+Belt+Clip+ex%2Caps%2C64&sr=8-13
It's just a toggle called "reduce max charging current" and sets it to (or below) 8 amps. The manual is a little ambiguous.

They fit and they work very well.
I just installed a Pormido 3 channel rear view mirror dash cam after someone poured his drinks over my ID 4 at a hotel parking lot in Boston. There are some EV haters on street and at public parking lots. If you register your product, Pormido offers a free hard wire kit which has three wires, black, red and yellow. It was a very simple process even though it was the first dash cam for me. I used F52 and F29 fuses, all 15 amp for yellow and red wire. Three channel dash cam requires three wires including ground. A universal hard wire kit which has two wires, ground and red, didn’t work for three channel dash cam.
Hardwire connection method:
Hardwire Yellow wire connect to Car fuse box (always have power even car is parked) 15AMP or above
Hardwire Red wire connect to ACC power ( Engine power, only have power when ignition is turned ON)
Hardiwre Black wire connect to Ground
In order to connect the hard wire kit to the fuses, I purchased a tap pack, https://www.amazon.com/Nilight-50040R-Holder-3-Circuit-Standard/dp/B07TBRM45F/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=fuse+tap&qid=1655689925&sr=8-6, and then cut off the hard wire connector(3mm), then reconnect the 5mm one with hardwire's wire, wrapped it tightly.
The wiring process of back up camera was painful and took several hours to get to the rear window. Pormido dash cam works perfect and you can monitor front, cabin and rear 24 hours on rear view mirror. Strongly recommend it. Melissa at Pormido really helped a lot through the whole process. It was the first install but was easy process if you know where you connect wires at fuse box and have fuse adapters ready.
I got the FitCamX, which taps into the power at the rear view mirror and meshes nicely into the trim. I hardly even notice it's there anymore, but it's really nice to have.
There's no auto-lock, you can fake brake hold using the Travel Assist if there's a car in front of you.
For 60W PD and 300W 110V I use a koosla connected to the power port on the left side of the hatch.
Thanks for posting this. I went with a very similar carrier and I think the same bag. I added reflective tape to the back and sides since my carrier doesn't have the lights. It is easy to use and I think it won't be as hard to store as a roof top carrier since it is very slim.

I nearly did the same thing. Got lucky after starting laundry and then going outside to put something back in the car without a fob. Ran back and was able to get it out before it got wet.
This cover took all of the water that touched the key fob foo, would recommend it, but remove the key chain part of it so it fits in the pocket better.
The Tesla one is nice, but I think people should check out the Emporia one as well. It's always $399, does up to 48A like the Tesla, great reviews, good warranty, 24-ft cable, and comes ready for NEMA 14-50 or hardwire.

My first reaction is not to trust this dealership. I have the AWD Pro S non-Gradient. I have had zero issues with the car since October.
I can confirm that the towing wiring harness is factory installed and your electrical installer is telling the truth. I ordered the Pollak 7-way socket (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000B6NQHW/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1) and installed it myself. I haven't tested it by hooking up trailer lights to it though.
As far as the FitCamX, I don't really buy that. There are multiple owners on vwidtalk that have installed that model dashcam and had no issues. I installed a BlackVue dashcam and wired it into the always-on overhead console power so it's active 24/7.
I'm at a loss for advice to give. I guess have them show you the "aftermarket module" before they take the bumper off and see if there is any truth to that claim.
I use a Veepeak BLE (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076XVQMVS) that works perfectly with ABRP and Carscanner

So far working great, $500 dlls for the outlet to be installed and $699 for the charger.
Initial charge was maxing a 3.8kWh but after changing the AC options in the ID4 and redoing the Setup on the ChargePoint app to the right amperage, its now consistently charging at 9.6kWh
App is "useful" I like being able to see the financial impact (since you can set up your Electricity plan) and also being able to see data on changing is a good thing but by all means not necessary.
I'd use a hitch tightener like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JDD8L3H/
That will stop any movement or rattling if that's the problem. A class 2 hitch is only rated for 300 lbs tongue weight so at the end of the day, it really can't handle much.
🤦 yes, thank you u/proximo3000, I completely forgot I had to order and install the harness on my FE. This is the one I ordered and installed successfully. It looks like it may be the same one but for some reason is missing the P on the end of the model so I thought I'd include the one I personally used.
I have this one. It does front and rear.

Regarding the level 2 EVSE (the “charger” is actually on the car, converting AC to DC and putting it into the battery), with the amount of miles you drive one port should be sufficient even in a two EV household (it has been for us for over going in three years). The current generation of EV batteries are so large that plugging in for an overnight charge once or twice a week is plenty.
There are units with two ports like this Grizzl-E, that’ll coordinate which cord gets how much power when simultaneous charging is needed. It’s expensive, but does use the same 50 A plug that’s pretty standard among non-hardwired units. You could upgrade later if you go for a plug-in style single port unit now.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09GL3DLH7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_3XB6K4Y3430TFDQ140DZ
Other manufactures make units that communicate over Wi-Fi to coordinate, which would let you put the stations in different physical locations. That’s probably pricier considering the cost of electrical installation and that two dedicated circuits would probably cause a calculated overload of the panel (if not an actual overload!).

Topper was from Walmart. It worked great. Kept the rain out and didn’t make too much noise though it make some.
Travelled with three kids and one car seat for a 3 year old. The topper was filled pretty full since we had so many ppl in the car. Average mile/kWh was 2.4 even when we hit some colder weather (40 degrees).
Had some range anxiety going there and probably overcharged. The way back was about an hour shorter because of great confidence in the estimated mileage data.
Out of 4 EA chargers through AL and 1 in TN, all worked well and had zero issues. Loved the proximity to food and Walmart. A bathroom trip and one lap around the store was great for the kids at each stop. It made the charge time pass quickly. And I closed all my rings each way because of that (EVs make you healthier? Lol).
The vehicle itself performed great. Travel Assist and comfortable seats make long stretches of driving enjoyable.

It may be too late for you already, but another thing to consider is whether you'll be taking the L2 charger with you on trips (camping for example). Citation needed, but I believe most nema 14-50 outlets are not rated for many plug/unplug cycles (ex: a $10 Leviton from home depot).
Further more (this is entirely unfounded, be skeptical) but I've heard a couple instances of cheaper outlets melting after high amp loads for long periods of time. Again - the electrician and other googling will probably not back up this fear. I plan to take my EVSE camping so I went with an industrial grade outlet, which may or may not last longer than a cheaper one.

I took them off pretty quickly after due to the loud whistling sound over 40 mph. I'm hoping that once I put a hardshell carrier I won't notice and I doubt the fabric sunroof cover will make a difference in sound dampening.
Anyone else get the above?
So would I, unfortunately, my car is not built yet. It should go into production soon for delivery Jan (hopefully not Feb). Based on the interior measurement review by u/ID_Furkan (Youtube link) it should fit the rear seats well. I'll likely just fold the door paddings under the seat cover as the one we have in our sportwagen doesn't have those currently. I couldn't find one with the mesh vent that didn't have the door padding. Saying all that, I actually just ordered this one as it is a little more narrow (width) and hopefully will fit well
I've been looking at this on Amazon. Has mesh to allow airflow from the rear vents and Velcro openings to allow installation of our two carseats.

Speaking of which, would it be bad news to extend a charger even further using a decent Gauge extension chord ? Like this for example: Parkworld 885774 NEMA 6-20 Extension Cord 6-20P to 6-20R (T Blade Female Also for 6-15R Adapter) 250V, 20A, 5000W (25FT) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K2R513T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8QTQ3Y2FCQMVTHGFCKTZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
A choetech model. I don't see it anymore but there's one that has a similar clamping clip: Magnetic Wireless Car Charger for iPhone 13/13 Pro/ 13 Pro Max/ 13 Mini/iPhone12/12 Pro/ 12 Pro Max/12 Mini MagSafe Magnetic Cases 15W Fast Charging Car Air Vent Phone Holder https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B092888KVW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8Z5349S9V78XWDAYDHC9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
u/MarkyMarquam you're referring to something like this?
I haven’t gotten one yet but someone recommended the Mustart Travelmaster to me, for this purpose. It has interchangeable 240V ends, I plan to use it at RV sites and the welder outlet at my son’s shop which are different plugs.
I got this pack from amazon https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08M6D2Q48/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
ended up using the 5mm thick ones. But I guess it depends on how high on the "grill" you mount the plate/sly bracket. I tried to get the plate as high up as possible, which ended up meaning the sly bracket stabilizer bar had to be 3 grill grids down I think.
You can get replacement plug ends from Home Depot or almost any hardware store that carries electrical supplies. Example
I got the Shell branded one 40A. More for the flexibility for road tripping and camping at KOA spots. Works great, IP66 and FCC cert. No real smart capabilities though - but I don't need that right now.
The panic button went off on me just today as I was pulling into my driveway. A jogger on the road thought I was honking at her! Good thing I remembered this thread...
Just ordered one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CDM1K71/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It looks to be almost exactly the same as the one from iJDMTOY, but it is in stock. The "don't touch my key" message is a bit silly...
I have this one and really like it. It was a challenge to get on but no accidental panic button presses since I started using it.
I looked at that one but it seemed very thick. It is already a big key fob and I didn't like that much added depth.
This is the one I got https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GLR4PNT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_GRN2AEDP4JN255ZBKCZ9
Another option: iJDMTOY Black Soft Silicone Key Fob Cover w/Red Stripe Compatible with Volkswagen MK8 Golf/GTI, Skoda Octavia with 3/4/5-Button Smart key https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08W9DPRHV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_QYP5Z7M8GC03QF4AB61S?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I ordered this one since it only covers the panic button and leaves the others exposed. We’ll see how it goes.
Could always get one of these.

I bought this for my garage and it works fine, obviously you need to buy the right one for whatever NEMA socket you expect to use.
I just bought one of these car covers for my wife's Tiguan that is parked most of the time now that we drive my ID4 everywhere.

I got the Magnelex Large and it seems to fit fine. I like that it also comes with a steering wheel sleeve (in case light somehow gets in through the side window?)...
https://www.amazon.com/Magnelex-Windshield-Sunshade-Reflective-Polyester/dp/B074DLLGQ2
I like the folding ones as well, I picked up this one that is connected. I also tried a few of the generic ones that had an image on them, but they didn't fit that well and were to floppy to stay up on their own and to stiff to roll up.

Kept it simple, fits just fine:

The Wallbox Pulsar Plus Level 2 is officially recommended by Volkswagen as an alternative to the EA Level 2 charger and has a NEMA 14-15 plug on it. I have a customer that lives in an RV park and we came up with that charger as a solution. I haven't heard back from the customer to confirm that it works at the RV park but this might be the best option and is recommended by VW.
But you won't be properly protected for a short. The wires of the EVSE are not rated for 50 amps, and if there were a short, they could overheat faster than the 50 amp breaker would trip.
Proper is to use one with a circuit breaker like this.
