Yoga is for healing. These people in the interview didn't have any injuries so Jois gave them some so they could learn that! Hahaha.
I have periodic bouts of pain with my SI joint and get relief from wearing a Trochanter Belt for a week or so. The belt provides light compression around the tops of the ilium bones to stabilize the joint. A few hours on and a few hours off seems to work best as the joint needs stabilization rather than full isolation. They are pretty inexpensive but a simple belt or ACE bandage can be used before buying one to see if it gives relief.

If you are just starting to work with the Sutras, I would listen to then 20 minute talks first, then purchase the video course for more in depth study. David recommends two translation of the Sutras. Barbara Stoler Miller's translation uses vernacular wording and explanation. Vyaas Houston is a Sanskrit scholar. His Translation is more literal

I've had issues with overtraining where my wrists start to develop tendonitis. So your post got me thinking about wrist health and strength... I realized that an exercise I've been doing for my Ankles would probably work just as good for wrists.
Here's the idea: you need some floss bands (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F8O12F4) basically, long rubber bands to wrap around your wrist. Then you rotate in one direction for as long as you can, slowly and deliberately. Reverse direction. Then do the other hand. I just tried this out and I'm getting a similar feeling as to when I do it with my Ankles. Lots of blood flow and a good soreness!

I recently purchased a Clever Yoga LiquidBalance Premium Yoga Mat, and I could not be happier with it. My palms are insanely sweaty (like, dripping sweat from only my palms sweaty). I've used both Jade & Manduka mats and have always had to use a mat towel, because I slip and slide all over the place. I don't slip AT ALL on this mat, even without a yoga towel. It's very slick, so I personally don't notice any major issues when I'm rolling over my toes. It's also currently only $58 on Amazon (not sure if this is a Prime only deal) AND comes with a bag to carry it in. The mat is slightly longer & wider than most other yoga mats, as well. I cannot recommend this mat enough. It's cheaper than most of the other high-end mats and totally beats them in terms of quality/slip-resistance. Definitely worth taking a look at! Their return policy seems pretty forgiving, as well, if you wanted to give it a try.

Wow Desikachar passed away last year, I didn't realize. I felt indebted to him to make the decision to publish it digitally. But if it's two generations, I would have no issues converting this to digital format if I could get a copy of any version of it.

We used "Yoga, Discipline of Freedom," by Barabara Stoler Miller during David Garrigues Yoga Sutras workshop. It is an excellent current day interpretation of the Sutras.
I hang it all in the bathroom with a window open so it will air dry. Then I chuck it in a hamper. Then once a week I use Nathan sport wash ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000M4IVXM/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_dE8CzbWDNHHS9 -- sorry, on mobile) to do a load of yoga clothes only.
If I don't let the clothes air dry before I hamper them, they get so dank that doing laundry doesn't make them smell good again. They gotta be dry before going in the hamper.
In a pinch sometimes I sink-wash a set of yoga clothes just to get by if I am out of clean laundry but it's not laundry day yet somehow. I've also had to sink wash yoga mat towels a couple times this summer since I only own 3.
There are two columns:
The far left column is the postures in the practice. They are in sequential order from top to bottom (the sequence number of the posture in the first number of each row).
The far right column is the Vinyasa count for each posture (the number of positions into/out of each posture).
Shri K. Pattabhi Jois describes the entire theory of the eight limbs of Ashtanga in just over 100 pages including step by step details of the Primary Series and recommended practice for the elderly and sick in his book Yoga Mala
So far I've found my hugger mugger rug to be really good. It's all cotton like the others are suggesting.
You can use a small towel...but personally I think it's important to work the strength and flexibility up to do those stretches with the least amount of reliance on hands pulling together as possible.
