Ok step by step.
go to the minecraft website and download the minecraft server.exe
Create a new folder on your desktop and stick the server exe in there. Run the exe and a bunch of new folders will be created and a window will pop up.
In the new window that popped up type "stop" to stop the server
Time to port forward
Type in cmd in your windows search bar and when the window pops up type in ipconfig. Look for your IPv4 adress. Remember those last 3 numbers.
In your internet browser type in your router's IP address, (Usually by default its 192.168.1.1) if you can't find it just google your router model and look for it's default ip and password
Go to the port forwarding section and forward port 25565 to your IPv4 address (Those last 3 numbers come into play here)
To connect to your own server, under multiplayer type in localhost for the ip adress. For your friend to connect go to whatsmyip.org and give him that address.
And that's all there is to it.
Note: If you are playing with a friend who has a cracked version(People pirate, personally I don't condone it but everyone has their reasons) open the server properties file in your server folder and set online mode to false
There is a bunch of stuff here on the Minecraft page. If you click on an item it seems to redirect you to the purchasing page for it at the store that sells it.
There is also a wide variety of stuff on Etsy as well, if none of the stuff there suits your daughter well.
Not knowing many preteen girls I am not sure what would be good for her. Though I know a lot of late-teen early twenties girls who love things like the Enderman hoodie. You might want to ask her what her favorite creature is in Minecraft to get a better idea.
I missed the Amazon part of the query, dunno why. It does look like a few of the items on the Minecraft page are on there, but Etsy is going to be available on Etsy alone.
Hello:
Minecraft is an open-sandbox game where you can mine in underground caverns and ravines, explore mountainous regions, swamplands, dense forests, and plains. You can also gather resources to build the needed materials for making weapons and tools to battle monsters encountered in the game.
There is no real "plot" to Minecraft except mining, building, and crafting items. The player is free to do what they want to do in the world. There is an end level should they decide to pursue it and there is also another dimension that they can explore as well. There is no requirement to go to either the end or the other dimension for a good game play.
The $30 is a one-time charge for activation of a full-game license that is set per user account. What this does is enable multiplayer play for the given user account (the ability to join servers hosted by other people or a server hosted by you.
With respect to servers, if you are concerned about your nephew having an unfavorable experience online, I would suggest considering a home-hosted server, a machine running Minecraft locally that he can then access through the Minecraft client. Many people elect to host their own server for their kid(s) to access with trusted friends.
For more information, check out https://minecraft.net/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minecraft Both sites have way more information (and probably do a better job of explaining it than I do.
No Probs - My server currently runs Canary, but i want to move it onto Bukkit as that's where all the fun is - just a little scared on making the move as i know nothing about Bukkit.
I'd love to see some pics of what you have made.
Here's something i just worked on on the weekend - not much but it's playable - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX87OCglf-Y&feature=channel_video_title

if anyone wants to know, it helps with other stuff too.
Your best bet would be to download a tool such as MCEdit which can be used for large scale world editing. You can import your saves in order to edit them (make sure you keep a backup).
Within the program you are able to view a chunk-view (from above) of the entire world. You will be able to see generated chunks and have the ability to zoom in on them. Once you find the lost area simply note down the coords.
Good luck!
Ohhhhh! I see. You need the new launcher. They released a new one in July of last year that changes how the game starts. Go here, download the minecraft.exe file, launch it and then follow the directions from my first comment. This will replace your old Minecraft launcher. So once you have this, forget all about the old one.
Here's a video to help you through setting it up as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-1M4OdX2jY
Updating the launcher will also undoubtedly help with your optifine issue as well.
When's the last time you've tried? Are you sure the last time you tried it just wasn't down? You can use http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ if it doesn't work to see if it's the site or your computer.
Even Non-HD ones? What're your computer specs?
Try removing the ip from your server.properties. Then, go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ and give THAT ip to your friends.
Just a few dollors and you can get this:
