Good luck with all that carpet :D

You might need one of these...

(also, adorable)
Take the pup.
Also buy a large Kong and some really good walking shoes.
Walk a LOT.
Train. And train tricks. They're fun for you, the dog, guests, mental stimulation and focusing Pup's attention on you.
GSD pups especially need to be socialized. This is hard right now. Hard is not impossible. Get an extendy leash (do not expect it to function once the dog is even half grown) so that when you take your pup EVERYWHERE (and you should) you can say yes to everyone who wants to pet the adorable pup and still keep social distancing.
For anybody interested, I got it from here: M.C.works Pineapple Dog Chew Toys for Aggressive Chewer, Tough Dog Dental Chews Toy, Indestructible Dog Toys for Large Dogs, Food Grade Puppy Toys https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SPZKGJV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_mLEPFbB247QMG
It’s called the “Excellent Elite Spanker” lol. We got it off of amazon excellent elite spanker
I think the fit is a little loose on her it did tend to sway a little when we hiked. We need to make some adjustments on it but overall it’s a nice travel/hiking bag! Very convenient to have her carry her supplies, especially on long hikes (we usually go for 7-10 mile hikes)
Looks about right for an hour long, once a month furminator session.
We’ve found it a lot easier to brush daily with a retractable slicker brush (like this: https://www.amazon.com/Hertzko-Self-Cleaning-Slicker-Brush/dp/B00ZGPI3OY/ ), maybe 3 minutes per day. It’s so tidy we even do it in the house.
We use the furminator maybe 2-3 times per year, in addition.
I’m not OP but it looks like we have the same one. Amazon.... Sofa Shield Original Patent Pending Reversible Small Sofa Slipcover, Dogs, 2" Strap/Hook, Seat Width Up to 62" Washable Furniture Protector, Couch Sli https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HR44BZP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_YeWZM2aOct3cN
i use my expensive ass fermanator on my GSD until it stops pulling hair out then I use my cheap brush like this one and it'll pull even more hair out. i think all types of brushes should be used at the same time.
EXCELLENT ELITE SPANKER 1.5" Width Military Dog Collar Adjustable Metal D Ring & Buckle Working Dog Collar for Medium Large Dogs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0711Q1TFV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_y6xTFb65YY9TM
From amazon! Apollo wears OCP,(camo) and our female is wearing tan :)
It’s a sling lift/harness made by Labra (purchased through Amazon) that we use mostly indoors to help him get around. Chance has developed DM in his rear legs over the last 2 months and needs extra help around the house, especially when going up the stairs. We’ve found it to work well especially because it’s a simple loop around his belly that’s easily attachable via velcro. Normally, he uses a Solvit rear harness that attaches more securely around his hips and rear legs and comes with a handle for us to use. This is more stable than the Labra harness and is what we use on his daily short walks around the neighborhood. Hope this answers your question! :)
Sounds like you know what you're doing. More than adequate socialization is of utmost importance. I like Home Depot for this, but you'll have to figure out if/what triggers he might have since he's 9 months already.
I have a Julius K-9 harness (size 2 for my 70lbs girl), and it's pretty great. Tough, comfortable, light, quick to get on/off, and can attach side bags for hiking if desired.
This is the specific harness I bought. Discounted because they're apparently trying to clear stock.
I’ve used this brand too when I forgot a leash. Bough from my local pet store and they work well and a few bucks cheaper than mikes
First things first. Get a soft cone put on him so he can’t make it worse.

I have 3 a boy and 2 girls. My boy sam is 10 and Jordy is 2 and Honey is 9 weeks. They are just plain fun. I had to put my 5 year old down June 6 of this year. She had spleen cancer. I can't imagine not having at least 2 they are so much fun. The younger ones learn from the older ones. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPJ3BqCIjXZG4ntkilIm8qyCRtMDEA3162qvBeS
Try balls made for horses. That's what we gave my old family GSD since he destroyed all dog toys with ease. We used to get something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PU34TO/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_qGlXtb0HW98RE8J2
My GSD is 12 weeks old and also about 25 pounds. These are recent pictures of him. We chose a GSD because my husband's childhood dog was a GSD/lab mix and he felt the GSD was the dominant influence on her personality. She was 85 pounds, overweight, but a large dog despite being overweight. "They" say you can tell a dog's adult size by the size of his paws, but my husband's dog had small paws for her size.
Shock collars are not very well liked, and I was always of the “hell no” club. I recently had to eat that sentiment though as my two boys (a GSD and a Lab/Pitt mix) will not stop barking at one of my neighbors in their yard. It was putting me in the neighbor from hell category and sincerely rude. They also have a yippie little dog and were spraying my boys with a hose through the fence when they felt intimidated by the sometimes seriously scary sounding barks. Between their dog and the hose spraying, it was just making my boys more and more reactive.
We got a training collar from Amazon with a beep, vibrate, and shock setting. They both have been shocked on low settings (and I tried it on myself first so I knew what each level felt like) a combined handful of times in the 2 months we have had it. Usually the beep is enough, and I always give a command a time or three before I use the beep as I do not want them in these collars for all time! The behavior for both is night and day.
These are the collars and they are waterproof, this company makes a single set as well but I don’t have the link for that:
Bousnic Dog Shock Collar for 2 Dogs - (8-120lbs) Waterproof Rechargeable Electric Dog Training Collar with Remote for Small Medium Large Dogs with Beep Vibration Safe Shock Modes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KZZ81XB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_VV30Y81KQ90DXX78PRT2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I had the same issue with my pup so I got this brush BOTH WINNERS Dual-Sided Shedding Blade with Stainless Steel Blade De-Shedding Tool for All Dog Coat Types- Soft Touch Grip https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZNR71W9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_W1SJZ16MBYH8CNSA4XT1 and it works well. I have to brush him outside because the fur doesn’t collect anywhere it just blows. Not sure if it helps but it was the only thing that worked for us!
I have a king Sheppard and this is the greatest toy money can buy for an aggressive chewer
I have three GSDs. Two of them really like water (except baths)
Used to have one large water dish, like really large. But after the second (or maybe it was the 5th, 8th...) time of it ending up all over the floor right after filling...
I went to a 'neater feeder' and use exclusively for their water. Has cut down on the water mess dramatically. (with the leg extensions, additional purchase)
seems the water also shoots out the sides of their mouths as the lap up the water, made terrible mess. This handy dish thing made that a none issue.

My gsd cannot tolerate the furminator, no matter how many treats are involved. I have a slicker brush placed in different rooms so that I can brush him when the mood strikes.
Swimming helps a lot if you can get your dog into a river or stream.
I run a roomba every day plus the regular vacuum once a day. I also have hardwood floors and sweeping was a nightmare until I found this rubber bristle broom. It doesn’t just push the fur across the room; it actually moves the tumbleweeds into a pile. rubber bristle broom
Got my boy the Chuck It for Xmas and he loves it. It actually has kind of sweet smell to it too (not that I sniff my dogs chew toys). It’s been at a good price at Amazon for a bit, i need to get a back-up.
I use a two products, here are some good ones (and cost effective)
Undercoat Rake: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXQZLLI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_gUgdGb3GS0VW7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I usually dampen the dogs coat with a bit of water so the hair sticks together, I use the undercoat rake first, and then I go over her again with the brush (usually twice). After the first brush I spray her with a dog perfume/cologne and then brush her again.
Yeah that would last maybe 30 minutes before my dog tears through that.
We got this instead https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Elevated-Cooling-Pet-Grey/dp/B076VXVB2L/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=dog+cooling+bed&qid=1610757959&sr=8-17

My pup had issues with this when he was young... I actually added a probiotic to his food and hes never had issues since. I started with a powdered probiotic and actually recently have moved to fermented raw goats milk... just a bit once a day with his kibble... not only has his stomach been fantastic ever since... he absolutely devours it.
Obviously check with your vet and do your own research over listening to some username on the internet but it's done great for Odin.
You can purchase freeze dried liver through Amazon or petco. Amazon is cheaper. It comes in a tub and it's what Athenas trainer uses. I make the dehydrated chicken using chicken breast slices in my dehydrator. I like both of these treats the most because I know there aren't any funky ingredients and because Athena isn't treat motivated by most of the stuff in stores. I've had previous dogs before and they were not this picky. Not sure if this is a German shepherd thing or if it's because Athena is a butt. The dehydrated chicken is tasty to me and the cats too. I've never tried her liver treats though. this is the brand I buy
Athena is like your dog, a bit more toy driven than food driven but it's easier to bring treats in public for us.
We've been using "nutrish" from that chef lady. We have it on auto delivery with Amazon. Our puppy loves it. Good ingredients and a great price.

It’s called a headcollar. It loops around their snout but doesn’t actually restrict the ability to open their mouth (like a muzzle does) and around the back of their head. The part that attaches to the actual collar is more for extra security, as the leash attaches to headcollar the Amazon description does a better job explaining how it works. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004XNLCKW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UdNVCbA7Q3B1Q

This is the one I got It’s a tight wrapping shirt that makes a dog feel safe and less anxious. I was hesitant to buy more things but figured for $40 I’d try it out. We initially bought it just for trimming his nails but he wears it everyday now.
That’s interesting, I’ve never heard of cbd causing worse anxiety. You could always try a very low dose and see how it works. Maybe find a company that offers money back guarantee just in case.
I'm embarrassed to say: Amazon. I got the prints and frames seperately, and the mats came pre-cut to 8x10. I think these were the frames: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YSHENGS . (We made these about 2 years ago, but I recently moved them in the great quarentine art re-org so thought to post.)
Do it! More dog pictures on walls!
They call them a rake. I prefer a single row of teeth, nothing that cuts the hair.

I use the memory foam beds in their crates, but these work best for mine who lay next to the bed on the wood flood, no bunching... 36x24 Inch, Heavy Duty Doormat Rubber Backing
You may be referring to the "water hole". I placed it right in the stainless steel bowl so that it fits in the food stand.
Do you have one of those lift slings you can put under her hindquarters for when she needs an assist? If not, you can use a towel, but it doesn't have the handles.
I think it's this guy by Fluff and Tuff. They are AMAZING stuffed dog toys. Our girl has a snake, caterpillar, shark, yeti, sloth, squirrel, rabbit and wolf from them. Oh and there's a giant candy cane one in her stocking ;)
In the USA? Kong makes a great one that I use on mine (Available at my PetSmart):
https://www.amazon.com/KONG-Ultra-Durable-Waste-Harness/dp/B0BBPZJSZ7
XL fit my girl but it's at the smallest size. She's a bit of a runt though. I'd say an average GSD would still be XL. They also make a "Tactical" one that's a little beefier with big side panels, but it seemed like too much for every day use. The one I linked once adjusted is incredible strong and incredibly easy to put on. Slip the hole over the head and buckles with (metal) buckles. Plastic doesn't cut it for when she lunges at a rabbit, from personal experience

It is for our son, but he is not old enough to play alone so we used it for the tree this year 😂
Yup. Vet prescribed Proin. Hardly an issue anymore, I'd say 90-95% less dribble. Some possible side effects but I've had no issue for 3 years. I'd talk to your vet about it.
You can stop a sneezing fit by covering one nostril. And Wild Cherry Bark Syrup has helped ease coughing in our dog.
Air compressor
https://youtube.com/shorts/Ap18krx50MI?feature=share
You can also get the brand name version called a Tornador. It connects to air compressor.
I have a 1 year old GSD who does the exact same thing. The gap between the furniture and the floor is no more than 3.75". An XX-L Chuckit! Ultra Ball is 4". Problem kind of solved.
I strongly recommend this Kong-like toy: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08L9WMPLW/ref=twister_B08MZ47RG1?_encoding=UTF8&th=1
Our GSD is very aggressive chewer, and we got her one of these a year ago. It looks pretty much like it did when it arrived, though she has managed to chew a little off the top. She loves it. Great for throwing or you can put some peanut butter inside of it.
We just spent a good chunk of moneys are our pup because of this. The only thing that's seemed to help was we did the allergy shot to get her to stop itching immediately (it seriously worked in like 8 hours). Switched all her food to salmon based protein, and wash with this shampoo. We leave it on her skin for 10 minutes in the bath and then rinse it off. She was getting fungal infections and now we can always smell it on her when one starts to crop up and a quick wash helps! Thankfully, we haven't had to repeat the shot because it was around $200. Hope you find some help for your pup!
My pup started doing this digging motion with her paws in her bowl, tipping it over, and playing in the puddle lol. I got this slobber stopper bowl and it made her less messy drinking and unable to play in her water lol
I know everyone recommends a furminator, but I have better results with this. I use the furminator once a week and this tool the other days.
It also helps to just realize you will always be buried in fur.
No beds, blankets, or stuffies until they pass this stage it’s not worth the potential bowel obstruction. The advice to wear them out is solid, but interactive toys like the Outward Bound puzzles, and the refillable tough treat toys and bobbers made by Starmark, along with a select few outward bound tough chewer stuffing free squeakers is all I’d allow. Right now Chewy.com has the majority of these interactive toys on sale buy 3 get the 4th free. This is my girl’s favorite, but the Bento ball is great for teething and super chewers.
https://www.chewy.com/frisco-durable-crate-mat/dp/325757
My gsd hasn’t destroyed this one. It fits snugly against her crate. Easy to vacuum and wash. I only need to wash the outer layer.
And definitely, exercise.
Thanks! I'm going to get this. Her only Plush so far is this hilariously large Frisco Burger Plush She goes crazy over it, maybe because it's a softer squeaker than me. :')
Try Omega 7 on her nose and paw pads.
There's also an expensive doggo version that you can buy on Amazon too.
This oil is SAFE (I use it) and my Malinois loves it. A couple of times a week I break out the bottle and rub her paw pads with it. She loves to lick it off (it gets on her nose) and then she like the palms of my hands.
Great product.
You need a really great vacuum, good is not good enough here. I checked out r/vacuums for recommendations for vacuums and those people are very helpful.
Next invest in an Evercare Mega Roller. They make one handle that extends so you can even use it on the carpets or in the vehicle. When you get that also get a big load of refills as you will go through the 50 sheets very quickly this time of year. I can go through 4-6 every day just on my king size bed and the dogs fleece blanket.
I was told when I got my boy that you know you have a GSD in the family when you eat, drink, and breath their hair. That was not far wrong. Vacuuming, dusting, and sticky roller every day to every other day in blow season.
Even if you can get outside and do a brush every few days (everyday is way too much for their skin and hair) that will help.
This is the rake I use and it gets so much hair out: https://smile.amazon.com/Maxpower-Planet-Pet-Grooming-Brush/dp/B07P2N8HQH/ref=sr_1_3?crid=J1X3JMT1EFZ2&keywords=dog+coat+rake&qid=1667862186&s=pet-supplies&sprefix=coat+rake%2Cpets%2C144&sr=1-3 You do need to be careful that you don't "dig" into your dog's skin since you don't really need to go that deep with this rake.
Hair everywhere is just part of the mystique of having a GSD in the family. You know we can spot each other even without the dogs present since we will have GSD hair somewhere on our clothes. LOL.
So far 6 days! It’s a pretty tough toy! This is the toy’s link
Mine has that same toy, and she is a dripper. She will take a drink and pretty much just let it fall out when she walks away. I use a cabinet storage rack like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WR66NCJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I find that mats just keep the water they soak up from evaporating. At least with this the water she dribbles has airflow and can dry up.
You might need a prescription for this if you order online
My girl went through 2 heat cycles. Get yourself some doggie diapers like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FZYS3JW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Also to avoid washing them all the time place some pads used for periods in them then you can just throw away the pads and replace them, huge help.
I got this coat rake for my boy and it is better than anything else I have tried.
I can get enough hair out in just 2 minutes to make another dog the size of my neighbors chichiwawa. When my big boy gives me more time I can make a miniature poodle. LOL. Basically this gets so much of the loose hair out that the dog is much more comfortable and for a day there is a bit less hair on the floor.
Got a super durable pineapple my girl loves, it the only toy that is still in one piece. She shreds all stuffy toys within 1 day. Tennis balls she will bite to death and roll them in her mouth.
Chuck it balls are also good - but I don’t let her have them unless we are playing outside.

I figured you didn’t feed it every day. Two words Neater feeder
This changed my life! I was having to use towels on the floor every single day, since I bought this thing (I use both bowls for water), I haven’t had to wipe the floor once.
I tend to buy ropes and hard chews instead. However, the other day I bought a bunch of stuffed animals, she completely destroyed one within a day and the others she just carries around/ puts in her bed. If you want something that will last a long time I’d personally recommend this or this but then again every pup is different and it’s about finding what works best for you! (:

That’s what I did with my GSD. I highly recommend getting Vetericyn Antimicrobial wound spray, it works great to get the wound clean. My gsd is always going on adventures, so it’s actually come in handy for small knicks and cuts that happen along the way.
Is a herding ball the same as a Jolly ball? Hans loves this ball! It drives him crazy!

Here's the link, Its essentially a "hacksaw blade hammered into a piece of wood" as one reviewer described. I'll probably pass.
Yes!! Could be recurring yeast infections. I switched my dog to grain free food and treats and it worked miracles. Shepherds can have issues with their ears and moisture, especially if it rains a lot or there is a lot of moisture in the air. I like to get a drying solution to use during times like this. You can squeeze it in their ear canal until it comes spilling out. Something like this!
https://www.chewy.com/trizultra-keto-flush-dogs-cats-horses/dp/126808
Linatone Plus from Chewy or a pet store! It will help the dry skin & hair. Squirt a little in the food & you should notice a difference in two weeks. Sometimes they need a little extra fatty acids in their diet. Salmon oil will also work but Linatone Plus is the best & it doesn’t smell fishy.
https://www.chewy.com/petag-linatone-liquid-skin-coat/dp/168712
Take him out in the rain. Ours loves it. Just invest in one of these. Once again, ours loves the blow dryer too.
I just got this dustbuster to clean the furniture and quick cleanups by the back door. I can't speak to it's longevity but it sucks up fur like a charm. My girl isn't a long haired girl, so ymmv. https://www.chewy.com/blackdecker-dustbuster-advancedclean/dp/390585
It also cleans up the car better than any other vacuum I've owned. What is it about car carpet that is so hard to clean?
Am I reading correctly that you have had the dog one day? Give the dog time with the crate, if it is an issue put it in the same room with you. Do not take her out of the crate when she is complaining...ever! Only sort of kidding their, really don't pull her out if she is whining unless you want to encourage that behavior. She will adjust. To be honest as far as crate training issues go, a half hour yelling and screaming is not so bad.
You are not going to get the energy out of a GSD by walking them, in my experience. It is good to walk them, don't get me wrong, but when they are young a one or two mile walk is really nothing. The sniffing and exploring they do while on the walk will likely burn more "energy" than the actual walking. I currently have a 9 month old ball of energy, I make him work for all his food. Sometimes that may be just using one of those Kong tipper toys that has a small hole in it but makes him think some about how to get the food out ( https://www.chewy.com/kong-wobbler-dog-toy/dp/44195 ) or I he "earns" his food through training. Have to challenge the brain to keep them working. There are all kinds of nose/scent games you can play indoors with the dog if weather is an issue, just do a google search. If I do not to these things with my dog he becomes a pain in the rear and drives my other dog nuts.
I’m a trainer, the best crates I have found that aren’t insanely expensive are Vari Kennels, they come in different sizes and have a 4 way latch on the door. Well built, easy to clean. Also make sure to properly train him for his kennel.
This undercoat rake was a game changer for me. I am able to stay on top of the butt tufts before they get too plentiful https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015BE943I/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Get a gentle leader collar. It made an immediate difference with my dog
Def get the vet’s opinion. It’s hard to say from this clip. He is sauntering a bit but otherwise he doesn’t look “deformed.” He might have some joint pain, GSDs have so many hip/spine issues. I see his tail bouncing here, can/does he wag it easily? If so it’s a good sign. I try to keep my boy’s weight down and supplement joint health: Zesty Paws Hip & Joint
I actually use this one. It's made for cats, but I'm too lazy to buy a bigger slicker. Any metal comb made for grooming should work, but I like the ones with both fine and wide teeth.
I use this undercoat rake. Double sided, so it's thorough. My brushing routine is 1. undercoat rake, 2. slicker brush, 3. metal comb through fur to make sure I got all the dead undercoat. Then I spray him with some emu oil to make him all nice and soft.
Our dog gets scabby looking chunkies in his ears every so often. We use this stuff and it works for us.

I used to trim my dogs nail with clippers but man those things make me so nervous cause if you clip a little too short its a very jarring and bloody and painful mistake. And the clipping is very quick and fast so it's kind of not a good feeling.
I picked up a pet dremel tool and now I use that to grind my dog's nails down. If you try this, just go very slowly and do like one or two nails and just take like 1/2mm or something off and then stop. Once they are very used to the feeling of the grinding sensation you can probably do multiple nails and eventually when they are able to just lay on their side and not mind it you can do them all.
Be careful of how hot (temperature) it can get when you grind the nails. You learn with practice but you grind little at a time and move onto the next nail otherwise it gets very very hot.
Cool. So I actually accidentally discovered this newer brand called Square Pet. They have a hydrolyzed pork kibble called Skin & Digestive support . I use it for one of my shepherds and she does well on it. I think it’s worth a try. It is still expensive, at $80 for the largest bag, but it beats paying $110+ for the prescription. I think it’s better ingredients too.
You can also find it at certain health pet stores.
Have you tried fragrance free shampoos? Nature's Miracle makes one where they don't add scents (https://www.chewy.com/natures-miracle-hypoallergenic-dog/dp/334282)
I have this one that my dog loves. The little flaps are pretty easy to just poke aside with her nose, but the spinner requires a fair bit of dexterity with the paws. But it's made of plastic so ymmv if your guy prefers the brute force approach.
Gia is only 1.5 now and I think she’s had that pack for a year now. Had a Coleman pack initially that ripped almost immediately. Found this one Tigris bag on Amazon and it’s worked really well OneTigris Dog Pack Hound Travel Camping Hiking Backpack Saddle Bag Rucksack for Medium & Large Dog (Brown, Large) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MQGL712/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HPKHXX6F9A6FGTKWKHDZ
We were out for three nights this trip so they each had their food (they eat 6 cups per day each 😬), collapsible bowls, and 15 foot tie-outs.
Have had to use a small cheap carabiner to attach from backpack to their collars or sometimes they fall off when hounding through the woods.
You want to always give your cat plenty of places to get away that the dog can’t get to - vertical spaces and rooms that he can run to.

I’m going to get something like this for my dogs -

There is one that I saw in a video that I can’t find at the moment that swivels under instead of folding, but I think anything like this would be good to avoid strain on their joints.

Least amount of stress.
Can you give him Turkey Tail supplement? It does wonders for the immune system. I personally take it any time I start feeling a cold, cold symptoms dissipate within hours. It has no side effects. I just open 2 capsules and mix it in the drinking water for our pup.
Sometimes if my dog doesn’t want to eat anything I give her, I sprinkle cheese on top and she eats it up. She looooooves cheese.
My normal food now for her consists of elbow macaroni, shredded carrots, shredded cabbage, some canned food and some high quality meal like brisket or burger for better flavor. I do a Baruch that lasts 4 meals (2 days) doe it doesn’t go bad. Otherwise she doesn’t eat her food. These dogs don’t like canned dog food lol. We are plant based and don’t cook meat, but I am considering maybe cooking brisket for her once in a while in a instant pot. The meat we get for her now is usually from Golden Corral, we buy it by weight.
Our pup is now 10 months old. I hope this helps.
