Buy some plastic canvas and use it to make ramps for your pools. Your pools should be deep enough for the largest crab to go completely underwater, and the plastic canvas will help even the smallest ones climb out safely. Example photo. Plastic canvas link.
What kind of crabs do you have? I'm not sure any species really enjoy whale eyes. If you have PPs, I got these off amazon and all 5 were immediately picked up! These are pretty large, if yours are smaller there are also some jade turbos on that listing
It sounds like you have a good start. I wasn't sure about some of the stuff so I just threw out some general advice. Great call on the egg shells. You can even just scramble one egg with the shell (just smash it up as best you can). They really need that protein and calcium right now.
If he's down molting I would not disturb him. I don't know how old your crabs are or how long you've had them but a lot of times when you first bring them home they will just bury down to de-stress, and not actually be molting yet. They have been through a lot and need to just take a break. Keep an eye on him. He may pop up after a couple days.
For sand this type works fine. It's about $5 for a 50lb bag. https://www.amazon.com/Quikrete-1113-51-50Lb-Play-Sand/dp/B00005C6E3
For decorations try to give them some good climbing and hiding places. They love moss, so some sphagnum moss in tupperware would be great for them. They eat it, sleep in it and just enjoy it. you have some nice wood for them to climb on so that's good. Generally just anything that will get them climbing and exploring. move things around for them every so often and they will check everything out again. They are very curious I guess. I get most of my stuff from Amazon.
I have the same exact wheel and set it up just like /u/rogue_pixeler
Mine is hanging upside down on some suction cups with hooks. I got the suction cups from amazon and they are great.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XGWCCCR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use these to also attach and hang fake vines for climbing.
Can't speak for OP, but from my experience, you really need an air pump to maintain optimal humidity. I tried adding extra pools, misting the tank, and increasing the size of the main pool, but I still couldn't keep my 20-gallon tank humid enough until I started using an air pump.
They're super easy to set up, and I'm pretty sure you can find them for $10 or less. I use this one. All you have to do is attach one end of the tube to the air pump itself, attach the stone to the other end of the tube, place the end with the stone into your pool, and plug it in. The one I linked to comes with everything you need :)
If you crochet (or know someone who does), I bought the pattern here. I made a few alterations to make it look more like our crabs.
Humidifier? I just use a spray bottle, unless you mean a humidity/temp gauge. This one works pretty well for me.
https://www.amazon.com/AcuRite-Humidity-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Indicator/dp/B0013BKDO8
Actually there is! They’re called heat pad thermometer stats, here’s one
I know you dont want to buy new heat mats, but I have this seedling mat from amazon that's only $10 and it's been working for me. I added my old small mat to one end of the tank. I wrapped the cheapest windshield sunshade around my tank, secured with black duct tape, and that's really helped hold my heat in. It was like $7 on amazon. I also use a glass lid to really keep all that humidity in.
I was worried it would all look bad, but it really doesn't. The sun shade gives a solid black background and doesnt look out of place.
Alright, a couple of things. First let me say, you are doing great, we just have to tweak some stuff. Your pools need to be purified with a tank purifier that you can buy on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00025694O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_A8SFVVCBPQZR47BZKC0K That is a link for the best product to buy for purified water according to CrabCentralStation.com. You add the purifier to both sets of water so you can use tap water for them and it will keep the good stuff that they need in it that they can't get from bottled water. Your salt water is best made in bulk and we usually recommend Instant Ocean as their salt water.
CrabCentralStation.com has videos to watch about food, tank set up, humidity and temperature control. Your humidity should stay up enough to not spray it. I would suggest putting your water bowls close to your heat pad so the humidity rises but if that doesn't help, Sphagnum moss helps keep the humidity up as well plus they eat it! So win win. Here is a list of foods they like and the protein that they have to have in order to thrive. https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_description&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbmQ0clprRzNsc204YTl6MjhhMEZIdFJXdHo2d3xBQ3Jtc0trOHVadEJPVDdaRnQzSHZuTjdEQWFsVlE5cHpkSHZDb3cxdkJQbHp2Y1NmanNvRHRzVWtvdjhiUTZrLUtvZ01RSlNDMzFZSk1zRzB0Vm5ZR2lWWFhseW9OeU... Have fun. Good luck. You are doing a great job.
I don’t use one currently, it’s super hot where I live. But I’ve heard great things about this one. iPower Reptile Heat Pad Under Tank Terrarium Warmer Heating Mat for Turtles Lizards Frogs and Other Small Animals, Multi Sizes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X8H4ZBV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_4DESGGW16JMC87RKT1H3?psc=1
Our gauge did this too - we replaced it with a more expensive one that is much more accurate.
I would suggest a new gauge - maybe you can find an old time in your home to sell in order to purchase this. This is what we use now and it works great Cigar Oasis Caliber 4R Gold Digital/Analog Hygrometer by Western Humidor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JXOKS2E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_J5S8RCAERR6433VDDYXB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
We also use a plastic soap dish with suction cups stuck to the side of the tank and fill it with moss then spray the moss generously once a week. Lastly we found a glass top really helped. If you don’t have a solid top you can wrap what you do have with plastic wrap to keep the moisture in. It’s unsightly but it work s
i'd recommended getting a moss pit. i got a shower soap holder and moss and my hermit crabs are OBSESSED with it! this is the moss i got https://www.amazon.com/SuperMoss-21749-Moss-Petite-Pieces/dp/B00I6AJBLK/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=SuperMoss+%2821749%29+Sheet+Moss+Petite+%28Small+Pieces%29+Dried%2C+Fresh+Green%2C+2oz&qid=1624575222&sr=8-1 and it was with prime! also you might wanna mix your eco earth with play sand (it's 4$ at home depot and lowe's) the substrate should be around 6inches so when you mix the sand in it should be also hermit crabs love fresh food but need more than just fruit so i'd recommend looking for food on etsy and for water i'd get prime to mix with tap water to dechlorinate it and instant ocean for the salt water
Mine won’t use heavy one but I’m not sure if others will. Idk the size of your hermits but these are nice https://www.amazon.com/Hermit-Shells-Turbo-Stenuous-Opening/dp/B0854PTHJ4/ref=mp_s_a_1_31?dchild=1&keywords=hermit+crab+shells+turbo&qid=1624057894&sprefix=hermit+crab+shells+turno&sr=8-31
Regarding camera, I've read a lot of good things on this one. I haven't gotten one yet but most likely will.
On isopods, I read a bit on them on the Hermit Crab Association forums. I got a bit scared off on trying them due to people commenting that they multiplied like crazy. But I do remember reading to get ones that are native to your area so that if you do get an overabundance you can release some to the wild.
I'm still new to owning crabs so I defer to more experienced people for the rest lol.
I think they're 2 or 2.5 gallons approximately. I used a critter keeper I found on Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0073OB4M4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_QQJBN483QCRHJ0Q5PRC9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I use this one. My crabs also love to destroy things so i ziptied a string around it and ziptied the other end of the string to a suction cup and suspended it in the middle of the tank from the lid. Hasn't been destroyed since.
Baby latches really are amazing, I just bought these & now I dont have to worry about mine escaping anymore! I had to weigh down their lid with anything I could find!
Thanks! There's ten more crabs in there but they're all hiding lol. The bridge is made from jute rope and maple tree branches. I was inspired from a rope bridge I saw on etsy. I'm pretty handy, so I tried to make it and it came out pretty good. I made one and was like "hmmm...i don't want to make more", so i bought the other 2 from amazon hahaha

Thanks! Yeah they love that thing. Its actually just a flat board. its cork bark. Not only do they climb on it, they also eat and pick at it. It has tannins which is another important part of their diet. I think the piece i have was about $20 off Amazon. I silicone'd it right to the tank glass, lol.
You can also get the cork bark in log form and i have seen where they love to hide and hang out inside of it. https://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Natural-Round-Extra/dp/B001F9ANVG
I ordered these from Amazon and they have a good variety of small to medium sized openings. Both of my crabs have switched into one or more shells from that lot.
Two of the shells have decorative cutouts, which I didn't realize before I bought them (You can clearly see them in the photo, though). I didn't put those in the tank because they can cause injury to the crabs.
I also just ordered about 8 shells from Richards, which someone else mentioned in an earlier comment. They haven't arrived yet, but they have a HUGE selection with a range of prices.
Thank you! I got it off amazon, i saw it recommended on a few different threads & it does give very accurate readings! I’m jealous, I want to do a topper so bad haha. I bought these really nice fake grass mats on amazon a while back and they make a great climbing surface for my 2nd level in the 29gal. It made things look less plasticky. Other than that I guess you could add a hide up there for them.

I have very limited electrical experience. But I'll try to explain the reasoning I use.
I'm not an expert on which brand is best. I can say the important things to consider are your power requirements and that you want a wired probe. Most of them are current rated. You need to know your outlet voltage. For a standard US 110V AC outlet, multiply the voltage by the current rating of the thermostat. Let's say you have a 1 amp thermostat. That means you can have a maximum of 110 Watts plugged into the thermostat. I would always add in a big safety factor to reduce wear and tear. So I personally would stay under 20 Watts, but it's not a hard and fast rule. The one you linked is 8.3 amps, so it should safely handle 8 times as much. The wired probe is important so that you keep the humidity out of the electrical components.
I'm always hesitant to link specific products. I'll link mine, but I'm not a huge fan of it. It actually works very well and has a real relay in the outlet that physically cuts the connection. I just am picky and think the control logic in it is not tuned well, it's a personal preference thing that most people wouldn't notice. I do like the display on it though. Disclaimer: I've only had this for a couple of months. I have no idea how well it works long term, but it has worked so far. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VRTVK6B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_LcquFb6KSKGVZ
Do NOT buy any shell with horizontal slit (Petsmart and Pecto sell them unbelievably). Their body can't fit well and it's not comfortable for them. Buy only those with round openings such as these - Click on the picture and see the opning how round it is. My hermit crabs came with the ones like your first one ( horizontal slit), but as soon he saw the turbo shell, he moved into it right away in 5 minutes. https://www.amazon.com/Nautical-Crush-Trading-Hermit-Polished/dp/B01N3YMCU8/ref=sxin_8?ascsubtag=amzn1.osa.47035f06-a792-4189-a907-63a6d0a32aac.ATVPDKIKX0DER.en_US&creativeASIN=B01N3YMCU8&cv_ct_cx=hermit+crab+shells&cv_ct_id=amzn1.osa.47035f06-a792-4189-a907-63a6d0a32aac.ATVPDKIKX0DER.en_US&cv_ct_pg=search&cv_ct_wn=osp-single-source&dchild=1&keywords=hermit+crab+shells&linkCode=oas&pd_rd_i=B01N3YMCU8&pd_rd_r=0170e1c7-ddd1-4b50-baa2-c9f886af6354&pd_rd_w=RGEnb&pd_rd_wg=dtNzR&pf_rd_p=08a788f8-ae54-4b96-9e48-f1e694ec6c4f&pf_rd_r=X3V5H26AQ74M72FFVK8E&qid=1596928093&sr=1-1-72d6bf18-a4db-4490-a794-9cd9552ac58d&tag=5042nst800sr-20
So I got these cameras and all I did was buy some of this type of tape and put it on the base and pressed it onto the glass! This type of tape holds up to I think 95° or something like that, and they haven’t budged at all! I didn’t get either from those links directly, I got the cameras from Best Buy and the tape from Walgreens!
Usually it is frowned upon to have metal with hermit crabs. There are many issues with it such as rust or the coating put on the metal to prevent rust is highly toxic for them too.
I like these plant mats theybare fun for the hermit to climb and very pretty in the tank.

I made a small second level for shells using this shelf, i covered the sides and top w craft mesh and they can get up no problem. I’d also recommend a wheel for them to walk on, the saucer kind. That's good to know!
Yeah, I was young and was trying to finish a book I was reading without my mom knowing, so I took a clamp light like that and clamped it to my bed and then threw the comforter over it.
I fell asleep and my mom woke up to smelling smoke and came in to find me asleep still with my comforter on fire.
Amazingly, I didn't suffer any burns or longterm effects, but it's definitely not something people often think about--especially when you've done it and it's been fine.
Definitely buy a fire extinguisher and, if you can afford it, get yourself a window ladder. Fire Ladder this one is for a 3-story window.

I lined it w craft mesh just in case and put a child’s plastic snack bowl from target on top w the shells in. I’ve heard of people using soap holders (the kind that suction to the wall) as well!
I also use this on my plants because I keep having pests pop up. It’s not heavy duty, but I have noticed since I started spraying it this past month I haven’t seen a single gnat and haven’t needed to do the mosquito dunks at all.

If still want a shelf, I got this one off Amazon, it's all plastic, and it fits snug in my 29 gallon tank so that they can't turn it over. Good for 2nd level on one side of the tank. I keep moss pits on top of mine and shell shop under it.
I would suggest getting another crab, as they need the company. 10 is probably the lowest to go, tank-wise for 2 little crabs. At some point, you'll want to upgrade, but for now they'll be good. It's ok to not have the best equipment right away, but if you're serious about it, try to work your way up to better stuff.
For the thermometer/hydrometer, I just ordered this today. It's a good price and has plenty of good reviews, so hopefully it holds up.
Terrariums aren’t usually the best options because of the front doors diminishes the depth permitted for substrate ; however, there is a company that makes terrariums with a 10-12-inch deep (bio deep) below the front doors. I have one and have been pretty happy with it. I wish the glass was thicker and they are quite pricey. Had to work up to it—save money. Wish I were handy enough to safely combine the less expensive aquariums to expand the height. https://www.amazon.com/Carolina-Custom-Cages-Terrarium-24Lx18Wx30H/dp/B07LF7SRQP/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=Bio+deep&qid=1657902377&sr=8-5

Excellent advice, as usual 😊.
If I may add my two cents: go for a digital hygrometer instead of wasting money like I did on an analog one (lookin at you, Zoo Med😤). They’re not always accurate and there’s no way to easily calibrate/ adjust it. These Accurite ones from Amazon are really popular and work well.
Is the sand in your tank the calcium kind? If it is, get rid of it asap and replace with play sand from a hardware store. I pay about $5 for a 50lb bag. The calcium sand sold in pet stores marketed for crabs is actually super dangerous. The required tank humidity can cause it to stick and harden to a crab’s body and can kill them, especially if it gets down inside their shell.
Lastly- be prepared to spend a lot of 💰💰as a crab owner. I’ve had mine a little over a year and have already invested close to $1k and the total is still growing.
Getting a glass lid is the easiest/best option. If you have an aquarium shop/fish store locally you might be able to find one used for cheap (that's how I got mine) or find one on FB market place, Nextdoor, LetGo, etc.
If that's nor an option you could wrap it with clingfilm where the light doesn't touch... or purchase silpat mats and place those over the top - this is what I used... they're meant for baking so I felt safer having them near the light. I put those over the top and then put a towel (safely away from the light) over them and that worked nicely.
Yes! It’s as big as a regular cocohut! This is the same one I have. It comes w a chain u can hang it up w but I didn’t use it. It’s optional you don’t have to connect it. I just sat mine on top of a cork round and made a little elevated resting spot lol.

Omg! Thank you! ☺️. I use aquarium lights for my tank. During the day I use the bright white light on its highest setting and at night I use the “moonlight” (white and purple) on the lowest setting. Looks like gnats. I own frogs not hermit crabs but I like to use clear fly stickies for my ground dwelling frogs at the very top of their tank to keep them at bay. I've heard of some people using what is called mosquito bits in a spray bottle to kill them with no harm to their pets but I've never trusted it and wouldn't unless the infestation gets severe.

They’re available at almost every pet store and on Amazon for very cheap. I suggest this one
Hygrometers are absolutely essential.
Crabs breathe through modified gils (like fish have) and if those gills aren’t kept moist, they don’t remove oxygen from their environment effectively.
If your crabs aren’t in 70-90% humidity, they are suffocating. I don’t mean to sound harsh, but it’s the truth. Humidity is one of the most important factors in crab care.
You wouldn’t have to hang them because they have legs. So it gets rid of that complication. Just stick them in. Like this: U Brands Gray Mesh Locker Organization Kit, Includes Magnetic Cup and Folding Shelf, 2 Pieces https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09B16GYNW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5CZZYNR3G0KAWFK1T4BN
I think u are talking about the “mushroom ledge” in the beginning of the video, if so, I got it on Amazon!
I put little treats in the bowl that comes w it. They can climb up on to it surprisingly well!
You know, these strong suction cups someone recommended work okay for a while. I’m considering using hot glue on the backs to hold them on longer. It’s still a struggle but these so far have worked the best! I think making sure they are clean and the surface is clean is key: suction cups
I have this thermostat that works really well
Thanks! Here is a link to the tiles I used…I bought them by the sheet. It took 8 squares to fill the 40 gallon topper almost perfectly, I just had to trim an inch off the bottom sheets. I siliconed mine to the glass but they come w suction cups.

Sure! It comes w several suction cups to stick to the glass but I siliconed mine and it’s holding good so far!

You’d want to invest in thermometer control unit to control the temp of the heating pad. Especially since It’s aged. See link below. You don’t want them cooking your crabs

Haha YES! I couldn’t think of that this morning.
Play sand is totally fine just be sure to mix it 5:1 with cocofiber/ecoearth. I buy the bricks of coco fiber ... they're inexpensive and go a long way once soaked. You'll want to be sure the substrate is at least three times as deep as your largest crab and as someone else mentioned it should be "sandcastle" consistency.
I hope you'll share pics once it's all set up!
Buy the 50ml size and refill it with larger bottles. The cap is a dropper. I add two drops to the gallon jug. Seachem Prime Fresh and Saltwater Conditioner - Chemical Remover and Detoxifier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002A5WPQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_SDBTBZ283Y7771J798QW?psc=1
I use fake foilage, such as: https://www.chewy.com/flukers-repta-vines-reptile-terrarium/dp/336458?utm_id=401602561&msclkid=3c919d4e8864136cb657fcbdb60ead41&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping_NC_Reptile_S_Reptile%20%26%20Amphibians&utm_term=4585307092269158&utm_content=Toys%20%26%20Decor-Reptile%20Plants (Not this exact design, but another from the same brand.) They enjoy climbing it (and knocking it down, lol)
Do you have two water pools? It's hard to see in the picture.
I use this for my 29 gallon. I put it on the lowest setting and it also comes with a custom timer. Works great! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V8GPZ3D/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_AQZ5C6YCPR3X7TCWY308?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have a tall 20 gallon (so not a lot of horizontal space) and I wanted big pools so I wouldn't have to change the water as often. I had to get a little creative, but I'm happy with the way mine turned out. I've posted pics on here before if you're interested in seeing the finished product, but I just bought two nice looking plastic storage containers and drilled holes for the air bubbler tubes.
The Complete Guide to Land Hermits Crabs just came out. It is the best land hermit crab book that I've read. The pictures are amazing and the book covers just about any topic including diet, breeding, care, molting etc. I would recommend this book to anyone with a land hermit.
A tiny acrylic planter with a suction cup intended for planted aquariums, here's a side view. The planter is about the size of a sake cup. Pings are very shallow rooted so all they need is a little bit of nutrient-poor soil. There's also a larger vacuum mounted suction cup just under the planter in case the original tiny suction cup fails due to the weight, trying to avoid bonking a crab on the noggin.
I'll have to swap this plant out in a few months as this species grows the diameter of salad plates. I might try a sundew in the next round or a smaller species of ping—I only used this one because I was thinning out some babies.
I got this one. It reads slow but accurate. When in doubt, go with the ratings. I bought two and compared it to the one I had for accuracy.

Mine can reach but cannot get to the sticky part. I also used silicone one the edges to help.
I think they are great for accent light, but I don’t think they could provide enough light. LEDs are where it’s at though. I have a 75 gallon with a glass top. I got these for the top and really like them. There is a natural daylight cycle and will turn off automatically. They mimic sunrise and sunset and won’t zap you if they get wet because they can be submerged.

its called Wyze v3! its pretty easy to set up and very cheap for a night vision recording camera.
A bubbler is basically an airpump, the tubing, and an airstone. The pump stays out of the tank, the tubing will run inside your tank and the end of it will have the airstone which will be inside your water bowl. This is a good one because it's small and appropriate for what you need. There are huge air pumps that are used for aquariums, those are too powerful.

Heat lamps are not recommended for glass. It will crack (as you know). I believe this is the on crab central station recommends.

I don’t buy Dollar Tree moss. It looks like Spanish moss which is a no go.
They love this moss. I have it on subscribe and save . Just soak it in water and it comes back to life!
Flukers Live Moss for Hermit... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NG0GJAQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Can buy it on Amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/Zoo-Med-Compressed-Expandable-Substrate/dp/B0010OSIHW or at a local pet store, look for the compressed bricks to soak in water or the loose fibers. You get more bang for your buck with the bricks
You could add a layer of external insulation like THIS or cut open and repurpose a hot & cold tote if you have one of those around the house. Barring either of those some bubble wrap & foil could get you by - I wouldn't put bubblewrap directly over the heating pads but cut around them.
Yes. This is the brand I use because that is what I noticed salons were using. I do my own nails now. These are awesome for nails, shells, and buffing out scratches on wood! Fortunately, they come in a two pack so you can share! 😂 Tropical Shine Mini 4-Way Nail Buffer Block 2 piece https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X4E7ZVQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GKS60DSGFYZ8F9AASMJ3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
You can also use regular seedling heating pads like this one https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Waterproof-Seedling-Hydroponic-Standard/dp/B00P7U259C?pd_rd_w=0IzzM&pf_rd_p=654426bb-d9e0-46ff-b0bb-c0819dce172b&pf_rd_r=AHY3WP9ZQAD74P44TSZ2&pd_rd_r=750e2926-2d34-4d6c-96b7-ac1e651be738&pd_rd_wg=oYX4... along with a thermostat like this https://www.amazon.com/Century-Thermostat-Controller-Germination-40-108%C3%82%C2%B0F/dp/B01I15S6OM?pd_rd_w=0IzzM&pf_rd_p=654426bb-d9e0-46ff-b0bb-c0819dce172b&pf_rd_r=AHY3WP9ZQAD74P44TSZ2&pd_rd_r=750e2926-2d34-4d6c-96b7-ac1e651be738&... these are what I use and it keeps my ambient temp within 5 degrees under what I set it to. You can insulate the back of the pad so less heat escapes if you need it as well
Looks solid! If I was going toadd to it I'd put a couple of shower shelves in the corners and stuff them with spaghum moss . It adds levels and the moss helps retain humidity... my crabs spend an obscene amount of time in them - I also have urchin shells stuffed with foraging in them.
How many crabbies do you have?
The apple cider vinegar traps work, but so do traps like these https://www.amazon.com/Mosqueda-Fruit-Traps-Sticky-Pack/dp/B08MZN1K2Y?pd_rd_w=ZLpZ0&pf_rd_p=654426bb-d9e0-46ff-b0bb-c0819dce172b&pf_rd_r=CJW6R35HJD4B1PWQV5G0&pd_rd_r=e8c39a6d-5b58-44dc-a41c-e492428e3327&pd_rd_wg=CIl8K&pd_rd_i=B... I use these in my potted plants in the room with my crabs and even sticking out from the sides of the lid of their tank if things get bad. If you leave the lid open slightly and put one of these over the opening, that also gets rid of a bunch and allows you to see how many you've caught. But yeah after you lower their population inside the tank, keeping the lid closed can help a lot.
I know plastic craft mesh isn't the most aesthetically pleasing options, but it makes a great pool ramp. This stuff, you can get it in different colors, really easy to cut to whatever size and shape you need with regular scissors, all size crabs can easily climb it, plus it's plastic so it won't mold or absorb water!
Thank you! OP painted the Old Deuteronomy portrait - she wants to do one for each crab eventually and hang them above!
+ u/Ok_Plane9969 the tank is Carolina Custom Cages Bio Deep 36Lx18Wx36H -- v expensive and I agonized over getting it for a while, but decided to jump on it while all our crabs were up and not molting. The bottom 12" can hold water like an aquarium and comes fully assembled, and then you assemble the top -- I managed to assemble it on my own, though two ppl would have made it easier, bc it's HEAVY, even empty). I'm pretty happy with it -- the left door is hanging ever-so-slightly tilted, and I'm planning to email CCC and see if they can help me figure out the issue (I think a part of the hinge got slightly bent). I'm not in love with the doors (they have to be locked to stay closed) but that's a design issue, not a quality issue - they open easily and very wide. The mesh top is pretty sturdy, and holds the Lexan panels easily with extra strength to hang some stuff from the middle support, plus it has (coverable) holes for the bubbler tubing and camera wires.
Overall, I am happy with it, especially having the balance of front-opening doors, extra height, and enough room for substrate without needing to mess around creating a tank topper (my backup plan was to get a 40g breeder and a 40g Exo-Terra front opening tank flipped -- I was trolling FB market for tanks, but could never find what I was looking for -- decided screw it and bought this tank while the crabs were up and about).
