Dude, major nostalgia. The book "Knee Deep in the Dead" was one of my favorite books as a kid. I need to read it again! I don't remember if I ever read the other books

warning: I read this when I was like 10, could be awful
edit: IIRC the book was about the super marine waking up on a basically abandoned space station with no knowledge of what happened or why he was there, he then fights hell to try to escape
You might realize that the post is from September. We missed out posting it in this awesome subreddit, but now that we also have a new blog post out (which doesn't mention Doom, but check it out if you're interested in the project) it was enough of an excuse to dig out the previous one again and share it here!
For those wondering, this is an Android app that simulates the UI of Windows 98 (quite accurately, I might add.) The Internet Explorer app inside the simulation is a real, working WebView.
I achieved this by doing the following:
With the route to Google’s DNS servers blocked, the hub has no choice but to use your local DNS. From there, weather.com goes to your server and runs whatever you feed it.
After setting everything up and a quick reboot of my router and home hub, everything works great! Except I have no way of controlling the game, and the frame rate is horrible. Of course, that’s not why we do these things. We do these things because we can!
Portable Computer = laptop
I use Linux Deploy and XServer XSDL. And yes, it does support keyboard and mouse. Mostly every single guide on that use the same app, but instead they use VNC, which is pretty laggy.
If you're curious, I use Arch Linux on it.
And for ROM, I use Resurrection Remix Oreo, rooted, and no, I don't do dual boot.
You can run a full Linux however, it's not going to be stable due to lack of drivers (proprietary), you can check out postmarketOS, that's a full Linux distro for phones.
If you're going to install custom ROMs (LineageOS, Resurrection Remix,..) or just do some hardcore customization like hacking to enable features that manufacturer was not intended to put on, Redmi 4X and Redmi Note 4X AREN'T the same. You can risk bricking your phone if you using treatment on wrong patient.
Here's the difference in terms of specs. https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_4x-8580.php https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_4_(4x)-8608.php
You could always install an antenna bypass like this they tend to work just like you’d expect but without the terrible performance from Bluetooth ones. Radio will still work and you only miss out on 87.9 FM frequency radio stations. So like maybe 2. Plus with the switch and direct contact it’s not a staticky mess. I would suggest grounding it correctly of course and getting a direct line from the battery or the fuse box.
CircuitMess Chatter 1.0 is available on Amazon.

Thanks. I got that icon from https://fontawesome.com/v4.7.0/icon/windows so I am hoping it's ok to use. If I get an official request to change it or take it down I of course would.

There's full color TI 84s with something like a 360p display. I've used them and they're way more crisp than the classic graphing calculators. I bet someone could get a decent looking DOOM running on it.
