Funny that you'd mention it – this is actually a feature! The intent is to provide students with a sense of pride and accomplishment for completing their Anki cards for the day.

On a more real note: You need to upgrade your Anki release, either to 2.0.51+, or Anki 2.1. Here's what the changelog had to say about this issue:
> Changes in 2.0.51
> Released 2018-03-26
> Windows-only release that works around a toolkit bug that was causing ping spikes every ten seconds for some Windows users. If upgrading from a previous version, please uninstall the previous version prior to installing 2.0.51. Uninstalling will not delete your user data.
Invest in a cheap camping hammock, find some trees, and Anki outside.
Take some time to master Anki's search criteria - it's something I wish I did earlier and it will be a huge time saver for you as you go forward.
In this case you would want to search a specific field that contains the item you're looking for. I didn't download the deck so I don't know what it's called in this case, but for my anatomy cards it would be Structure:Trapez*
which tells Anki "Search only the "structure" field for anything that starts with "trapez" which is a unique enough name that it should come up quickly...
If you were searching for "anterior scalene" however you'd want to use search criteria that like "'Structure:*scalene'" (ends with "scalene") or "Structure:anterior_scal*
" (starts with "anterior scal") to find what you're looking for.
For your second question, if you right click the top row of the browser you can choose what criteria are visible. The deck should be tagged according to the CSV file.
EDIT: formatting
Exactly. Add to this that old cards are usually the ones you will have the least problems answering, and there really is no reason to cap your intervals. If you want to optimize your retention rate, it's much better to tweak the interval modifier as this applies globally.
If you've only been doing Anki everyday for the last 62 days, it may be too soon to tell if it isn't for you. Go for a bit longer and see what happens. There are a few ways to increase your retention rate. When I personally first noticed my rate dropping, I shortened my interval modifier. This'll make you see cards more often, but your retention rate should go up. If you want to do this, use the below formula I got straight from the Anki manual (https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#reviews) and adjust accordingly. Good luck!
log(desired retention%) / log(current retention%)
I use this one (https://www.amazon.com/ACGAM-Bluetooth-Wireless-Controller-Cardboard/dp/B01NACKLKO/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=r1+bluetooth+controller+vr&qid=1553782918&s=gateway&sr=8-2) with joy2key and Anki and it works great. I can hold it in my hand while using the treadmill.
We show this page when images fail to load: https://github.com/ankidroid/Anki-Android/wiki/FAQ#why-doesnt-my-sound-or-image-work-on-ankidroid
TL;DR: If they don't appear on AnkiWeb, then it's an upload problem from Anki Desktop (assuming that's where you uploaded them).
use this add-on to create a list. it allows you to avoid having to manually input the html yourself to create the list.
If you go into the details of your note types, there's a box labeled styling. within that styling box is a "text-align" tag. you can choose to get rid of that tag, or change "center" to "left". this should left-align your text.
this question is also probably better for the /r/Anki subreddit
Press check for updates to see if there are any updates - otherwise check here to see if the add ons you want are supported on that version https://www.notion.so/322a9c869fa1401894338ca65a565c42?v=db3d118f63634e8bae78fab752e905fd
If you haven't taken the MCAT yet I have heard of people using it for that. Check out Anking on Youtube for a lot of info on using Anki in med school.
When you are making the custom filtered deck, you can use “or” statements to select cards with any of several tags. For example, using “tag:Metabolic” (without the quotes) selects all cards with the tag Metabolic. Using “(tag:Metabolic or tag:Kreb)” (without the quotes) will pull cards that have either the Metabolic tag or the Kreb tag. You can give it a list of as many tags as you want: “(tag:Metabolic or tag:Kreb or tag:Vitamins)”. This part of the Anki manuals explains all the different searching commands that are possible: https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#searching
Yeah! For example, my Combined Review deck is for maintaining long term memory, so I keep the interval modifier at 100% because I'm comfortable with having my retention rate around ~85% and spending less time reviewing. For my Combined Current deck, I keep the interval modifier at 70% because I want to spend more time with these cards and maintain a high retention rate.
Useful links:
+1 to consulting the Anki guide for all Anki-specific questions. It’s well written, comprehensive, and easy to search. Probably deserves its own link in the sidebar.
Edit: Here is the Anki 2.1 manual: https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html
Don't waste time moving cards to new decks. Using filtered decks is more efficient. You can pull all the due cards from the master deck and subdecks and gives you a true random order. https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#filtered-decks-&-cramming
1, 2) The instructions are probably quite confusing if you aren't well versed in Anki. Basically if you sort by date created they will be in order and you could find the mentioned cards to delete easily because they would be grouped together.
3) Micro deck was considered complete but people weren't happy with the mistakes/variability, so it's being redone and will be re-released in a couple weeks. Up to you if you want to use the currently released one right now if you have a urgent need for the cards.
4) Try a different browser. Links are working for me in Chrome on OS X.
5) Yeah you really need to adjust your settings. You could definitely copy someone else's settings (they're all over the internet), but definitely take some time to familiarize yourself with what all the settings do because you can tweak them to work for your needs. I would suggest their manual (https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html). If you're taking in July I would figure out when you want to be done and divide 26k or whatever the total number of cards is by that number of days taking into account you'll probably have some bad days/days off.
6) I have 26183 cards right now with all the expansions. There's been so much manipulation and edits happening that it's no wonder everyone has different numbers. Not sure if an official number has been released.
I'm happy to send you a link to my deck that has the expansions in a PM if you need it, but no guarantees I have the perfect number, and I also changed the background/text color. Otherwise I would just wait for the people organizing to release it as a single deck and start from there. Hope that helps!
Thought I'd add my pharm card template in case anyone wanted to pair these two things together.
The template has fields for Name, Class, Indication, Mechanism, etc., and only prompts you (on the front) if that field is filled. Check it out.
No, I don’t think it’s related to your email. It seems that you downloaded an another unofficial anki app from the Microsoft store called anki universal. You should download the official anki app from this website: https://apps.ankiweb.net This is the one that syncs will anki web and will sync your media as well. Let me know if it doesn’t work out.
Build a filtered deck with this search term — “rated:2” — and it should show you cards answered today and yesterday. I think that’s the closest to what you’re asking for.
See:
https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#searching
And:
I don't care if I finish all due cards each day: I mainly learn on Desktop and I use the addon Change order of review cards in regular decks. This add-on offers a setting so that my reviews are ordered by increasing intervals. When the intervals are quite long I don't think that there's a substantial difference between viewing a card say after 124 (as scheduled) or 128 days. But I try to do reviews each day so that I do the cards that have very small intervals.
The idea of Anki is to review a card only when it's due and to trust the scheduler. If you don't know what you are doing don't change the review settings in the deck options. I have seen some horrible ideas in the anki subreddit that increase the workload a lot.
If you have old cards that are nice to know for life but not relevant for an upcoming exam and don't have enough time for all the reviews: I would put the old cards into a different deck with a different options group and change the deck settings: I would increase the interval modifier so that you remember less of these cards. But this allows to spread out the reviews much more which should lower your overall workload a lot - for a calculation see https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#reviews
"100 new cards and max 300 reviews" is a horrible setting that guarantees that most review cards won't be reviewed in time. If would strongly suggest to re-read import parts of the manual. I put important parts of the manual into Anki. I have over 100 notes/cards about Anki and this has saved a lot of time over the years.
You have to give us more information than that if you want a more helpful answer.
The intervals are calculated with a somewhat straightforward algorithm, you can look into that.
Some common possibilities are setting the ease too high, reviewing cards much later than when they are due, or pressing the "easy" button too often which will make the card's ease very high.
You can try asking or /r/Anki or add more information to your post in a comment.
Right click the top of the columns where "Due date" and "Field" appear and you can select additional sort categories like tags.
Please consider reading the anki manual here. Proper syntax for searching for cards, etc is explained pretty clearly.
You are searching for cards containing the words "vasculidities" but not all the vasculidities cards contain that term specifically. If you want to search by tag, you have to search "tag:vasculidities"
The Anki manual is a great resource for learning! I have linked the 'search' section specifically. The answer to your question is that you need to put golgi or endoplasmic in parenthesis, and then it should work.
https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#searching
you can add multiple search parameters to any search. so search for the deck that you want to look in and search for the tag that you're looking for in a single query.
So idk how to make sure everything worked but I just tried this and it looks like all the cards in my master deck updated:
*I didn't do the add-on because I figured everything in my Master Deck should be appropriately edited if I add the entire Zanki collection---basically, cards I've already added to my Master Deck are moved to my Master Deck automatically (Anki Manual says this would happen it appears to have been the case for me).
I just verified that this mostly worked. I never had Zanki Pharm so I just tallied things up ignoring Pharm card counts for now. Here are the counts in my new collection after updating this way:
Total Zanki Cards (Master Deck + Zanki Step Deck): 20,075 - Master Deck: 2,668 - Zanki Step Deck: 17,407
A clean install of the Zanki with Add-on (assuming a new user; again, no pharm) is 20,053.
So I have 22 unaccounted cards---I think these are cards for which I added extra cloze deletions for in the past (from within my Master Deck). And 22 seems about right to me.
This gives me enough reassurance/certainty to continue with this collection updated this way.
This has to do with Anki's treatment of burying related cards - called siblings. It's explained below!
https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#siblings
If you want to turn this off, you can go into deck options and deselect 'bury related'.
Hi. I'm sorry, but it's been a while since I went through the remote installation process myself (and I mostly use a wireless gamepad or mouse these days). Does this tutorial by UR help?: https://www.unifiedremote.com/tutorials/how-to-install-a-custom-remote
(FWIW, I'm not affiliated with UR in any way, and I also don't get paid for the remote. I always found it kind of weird that they would paywall access to remotes contributed by the community, but anyway... Also, it seems like they recently got rid of their dev forums where people used to submit their remotes, so at this point I'm not even sure how to update it any more.)
pinging /u/DoctorToBeIn23 on this, too
I use this controller and remap the keys with Karabiner Elements. It’s cheap so be careful not to drop it cause it can easily break, but it works perfectly for me! If you get this one and need help remapping then controls, feel free to pm
Since this is not sponsored or anything, just get whatever you feel comfortable. I tried to pick the top rated ones.
This is the mini keyboard/mouse.
I'm pretty sure there's better ones if you're willing to spend more!
I'm also looking forward to buy more of these kind of controllers, since they allow me to do my reviews in a much more comfortable and enjoyable environment (also, they're usually cheap).

If you find a deck, you might want to verify its translations against the following Spanish dictionary app, which I know (as a bilingual physician who has practiced on both sides of the border) is extremely accurate:
iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id1574202729?pt=123220161&ct=email&mt=8
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rogers\_dictionary&referrer=utm\_source%3Demail
I recommend getting the following app. It's free and has a Dialogue section that covers an entire H&P:

I personally am on 2.1.52Qt5 with most add-ons now working. We have spent a lot of time and money to get all our add-ons and many other public add-ons updated. I know many other software devs have done the same and we are especially grateful for such a great, collaborative community.
Here is our sheet to track add-on breaks (you can comment if you find anything is incorrect)
This sounds like a great plan! I just took STEP1 and these were my final tools besides question banks. I didn't discover notion until M2 but I created a template schedule with daily to-do tasks (including finishing all my Anki reviews) and other long term goals. This was really helpful for me to stay on top of my to-do list with a better ability to shift things around than on paper. This is the format that worked for me but I love that you can completely personalize Notion so manipulate how you want! https://www.notion.so/Week-Planner-Template-06a7c1c1e58e4cf0b9244f6ed9501a90 Best of luck with everything
This remote. I'm not sure about timeline, it depends on how many cards you can reasonably do per day. I'm through 75% of the step 1 deck and feel that that is enough to safely pass, but I did all of these cards along with my course work so it was reinforced in multiple ways. I focused on doing most of the b and b cards, all of sketchy micro, all of sketchy pharm, and felt that covered the really high yield stuff. I'd also unsuspend most of pathoma but there is a lot of overlap so it doesn't add too many
You can set a limit for your reviews in the settings; haven't used filtered deck myself but here is an explanation about it: https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual20.html#filtered-decks-&-cramming
M-W-R,
The most current anki is version 2.1.22 on windows and 2.1.23 on macs. Most of the crucial/necessary add-ons are compatible with these versions. You are able to download the latest version here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/
Do you have a specific add-on in mind that you are worried about not working with the latest anki version?
Hope this helps!
-MMBP
helloyeoo,
Udating your anki is as simple as downloading the latest version off of their website ( https://apps.ankiweb.net/ ) and opening the downloaded file. Before doing so please make sure to back up your deck via exporting (ctrl+E) and syncing to the anki web.
As for add ons, the only one to my knowledge that does not work is 'Night mode'. This is not an issue, though because they have integrated this into the new anki software update. To enable this after installing, go to preferences (crtl + P) and click the night mode box!
Hope this helps!
-MMBP
Unfortunately, you're not going to be able to get that one-handed remote to work. I tried, relentlessly. Unfortunately, the BT remotes/controllers that you CAN use on iOS are completely controlled by Apple.
You can read what Anki has to say about it here: Anki gamepads
And if you follow the link listed on the Anki Manual I linked to the Apple support page, you'll see that the ONLY bluetooth controllers compatible with iOS are:
Xbox Model 1708 PlayStation DUALSHOCK4 Wireless Controller various MFi controllers (eg. SteelSeries Nimbus, Horipad Ultimate)
FWIW I use the SteelSeries Nimbus controller with my iPad, and I'm able to map it entirely through the Anki Mobile App.
Hey, I think I found the solution! Turns out it's something up with the hardware acceleration. I tried to disable it but it wasn't letting me upon restart it would re-enable and throw an error. I pulled up CMD with admin priviledges and typed " echo angle > %APPDATA%\Anki2\gldriver" and it worked! Haven't had a single issue yet. Give it a go!
>Maximum interval allows you to place an upper limit on the time Anki will wait to reshow a card. The default is 100 years; you can decrease this to a smaller number if you’re willing to trade extra study time for higher retention.
Hmm, you might be using an older version of Anki that doesn't support drag-and-drop installations just yet. Please see if you can install the latest version of Anki here and try again: https://apps.ankiweb.net/#download
You can use "custom study". Once you click on a deck on the bottom there is an button for custom study or you can just press "c". I usually do "study by card state or tag". Pick new or due and then the next window will let you pick the tags you want. Once the session is made, go into options and make sure the "reschedule cards based on my answers in this deck" is checked.
You can also click "f" when you're in the deck menu to make a filtered deck. You just search for what you want. I find I easier to select tags using the custom study functionality but they both essentially do the same thing.
If you want to make multiple custom study decks, just make sure to rename them. You can find a lot of cool ways to use the search bar in the Anki Manual. Once you learn a few, you can use them to search in the browser menu too.
Hope this helps. I think the manual explains it a lot better.
The same thing was happening to me! I didn’t realize I had an older version of Anki. The upgrade 2.1.17 improved the performance of the browse screen for people with too many decks and tags. Another update 2.1.18 just came out yesterday too, I’d try that! It completely solved my issue. (Just don’t forget to back up before upgrading it!)
https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/changes.html#changes-in-2.1.18
It is my understanding that the Check Media function only cleans up unused media files. You will still have the pictures in all the rest of your cards (assuming they have a corresponding note, since you mentioned you deleted your decks). Based on the error message, it seems that function has the best chance of solving your problem. Further documentation can be found here. You will be able to recover any erroneously erased media files by looking in your recycle bin.
>You can use the Tools>Check Media menu option to scan your notes and media folder. It will generate a report of files in the media folder that are not used by any notes, and media referenced in notes but missing from your media folder. It does not scan question or answer templates, which is why you can’t place media references to fields in the template. If you need a static image or sound on every card, name it with a leading _ (e.g., _dog.jpg) to tell Anki to ignore it when checking for media. If you delete media using the unused media check, Anki will move it into your operating system’s trash folder, so you can recover if you accidentally delete media that shouldn’t have been deleted.
Damien:
Please also empty any filtered decks and finish learning cards prior to upgrading/downgrading.

Card1, card 2 . There is an interference here. I would make a Mnemonic or Pictures.
Relearning a 'concept'. The gurus suggest adding more conceptual questions using the 5-w method; and B&B videos. Or simply reword the tough questions in your own words - instead of memorizing the imported card.
I think this is ‘fuzz’ and is normal.
From the manual : >After you select an ease button, Anki also applies a small amount of random “fuzz” to prevent cards that were introduced at the same time and given the same ratings from sticking together and always coming up for review on the same day. This fuzz does not appear on the interval buttons, so if you’re noticing a slight discrepancy between what you select and the intervals your cards actually get, this is probably the cause
Change your interval modifier with the formula: log(desired retention%) / log(current retention%)

exmaple: If your retention was 90% and you would be happy with 85%
log(0.85 ) / log(0.90) = 1.54, change your interval modifer to 154%

Sorry for replying here. This thread has got really messy lol.
I am not very familiar with the steps and Anki's algorithm, but I saw some suggestions regarding adding the 4320 step would be good for short term preparation ( such as Step 1 Exams) so I added it.
I have exported my overall stats along with the addon that you mentioned. Would you mind having a look at it?

I can't see any of the tags https://snipboard.io/UqZQ5S.jpg And sketchy and extras pop up without even clicking. Can someone please tell me what's wrong? I can't remember doing anything significant to cause these :(
I might've found the answer to this: taken from Anki's website
When the answer is shown, Anki shows an estimate of the next time a card will be shown above each button. If you’d prefer not to see the estimates, you can disable them in Anki’s preferences.
Note: Anki additionally adds a small amount of random variation to the next due times, in order to prevent cards that were introduced together and always rated the same from always staying next to each other. This variation is not shown on the time estimates but will be applied after selecting the button.

Can someone confirm that this is what is happening based on the screenshots I sent?
> In the current implementation, if you create, rebuild, empty or delete a filtered deck while cards are still in learning, they will be turned back into new cards. In the case of failed reviews in relearning, any remaining relearning steps will be skipped. This has been fixed in the experimental scheduler.
https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#filtered-decks-&-cramming
Just have to make sure no red numbers on review count.
I'm afraid to even consider this lol. Apparently this was fixed in V2 scheduler, but when you switch to V2 scheduler, it resets all learning cards to new.
I think this problem is still present on 2.1.
https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#creating-manually
>And unless you are using the experimental scheduler, they can not pull in cards that are in (re)learning
https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#reviews
Please please read the section under deck options:: reviews. This explains in the perfect amount of detail how messing with the settings works. You have diminishing returns by cranking up reviews and shortening intervals artificially. Time is precious in school and that is time that could be used more efficiently elsewhere or for personal things.

When do you feel like you know a cards well enough?
Anyway yeah adding a bunch intermediate steps would definitely be great help.
Give that some time to work out, and if still doesn't work use this to change interval modifer

I'm having the same issue and was just looking for a way to solve this... I would love for someone to explain it. I think it does have to do with the new intervals (25 minutes, 1 day), but I can't figure out how to study those cards specifically.

I like to use filtered decks for doing my reviews so I can study in manageable batches before taking a break, but those red cards never get pulled, even when they are due. My options for the filtered deck look like this:
>deck:"AnKing" is:due
>limit to 125 cards selected by Random

But when I do that, all those reds (Learning) stay in Anking.

I've tried using other card states from the anki manual:
>Card state
>is:due
>review cards and learning cards waiting to be studied
>is:new
>new cards
>is:learn
>cards in learning
>is:review
>reviews (both due and not due) and lapsed cards
>is:suspended
>cards that have been manually suspended
>is:buried
>cards that have been buried, either automatically or manually
>Cards that have lapsed fall into several of these categories, so it may be useful to combine them to get more precise results:
>is:learn is:review
>cards that have lapsed and are awaiting relearning
>-is:learn is:review
>review cards, not including lapsed cards
