You'd have to look at the mods to decide. There's more UMVC3 mods compared to MVCI. UMVC3 also has a "balance patch" mod. It debatable if its is balance, its more like an alternate version of UMVC3.
Here are a couple of sites, there's no repository for all mods, you have to go search for them yourself.

you can try this out . It has marvel listed on the games page, and here is a reddit thread for it.
Late to the party.
I'm compiling notes and stuff about the characters I play, strider included, in an organized workflowy.

It's still pretty early but my goal is to have a really comprehensive and informative end result.
What steam launch commands did you try?

I would recommend using the -w and -h commands and starting at 1024x768.
Before you do that, you could also remove one of the monitors or set the monitors to run mirrored (2 monitors displaying the same thing) to see if that brings the window back
If neither of those things work, navigate to the MVC:I configuration file and see if you can force a resolution and monitor that way. Unfortunately when I look in my file, it reads as blank. I'm unsure if it actually saves that information elsewhere. This resource may help: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Marvel_vs._Capcom:_Infinite#Configuration_file.28s.29_location
Good luck!

Here's some Venom info I could find revelant to the current Marvel NOW series. Now, we also have the Venom movie coming so it's a matter to see which character is Venom going to be based from (Eddie, Flash, Mac, Price)
well im assuming you are from the USA(please correct me so i can giv you appropriate advice and prices) The Mad Catz TE2+ is onsale for $179 a great premium stick with all the features i listed i paid $300cnd for mine and love it it recomend it over the panthera because they are so similar, but if u want a bigger sturdier base go for the mad catz, if u want a smaller one the panthera.
the qanba obsidian is $180us a great deal
I was in the same boat, I was trying to find a good fightstick for cheap. I found this one and I got it, it's a great stick. I'm trying to get used to stick controls but from everything I read its a great stick to customize.

The Switch has multiple different controller options that could work for a game like MvC. The Pro Controller comes to mind, and this is also without mentioning the officially licensed HORI RAP.V fightstick that exists for it.
So I assume this means that the legacy mode in SF5 is not in this game? Can I use that universal stick I read about?

Would you have a link handy?
Was hoping for it to be cheaper, a new PCB is like 63$ on focus attack

Obviously it's a beginner thing, if you're super into it I'd recommend spending a bit more. That's not the same one I was thinking of either, I'm remembering a small white thing with green buttons. This was back when SFIV came out though.
I've looked some hori sticks and I'm not sure are they customizable. I might buy square restrictor with it if it's possible. https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Real-Arcade-White-PlayStation-4/dp/B01M3ULCQY/ref=sr_1_7?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1506097298&sr=1-7&keywords=fightstick&th=1
