I just thought that whole dream sequence was paying respect to the old 1930s cartoons. Kinda like that new game called "Cuphead",
I've heard some "Queen of the Clouds = Beast" stuff and none of it's convinced me much. Rewatching, I tend to notice the heaven similarities way more than anything else. And Paradiso would be a nice contrast to the Inferno inspiration.
(Though the fic "Trade the Souls of Children (As If They Were Tokens)" has a neat and plausible interpretation of an amoral Queen of the Clouds.)
Yep, the first offical comic collection Over The Garden Wall: Tome Of The Unknown containts the backstory of the Highwayman and his talking horse Fred!

This one right here. It takes place after the show and follows a whole new story. Whether or not it's canon is debatable. If you want to catch up, your best bet is probably going to be with digital copies. For future physical copies, you can find them at a local comic book store.
Yup! There are two different series, and I believe you can buy them both as ebooks:
A limited run written by Pat McHale, which fills in the gaps in the canon series with new stories. Issue #1 is an adventure taking place directly before Tales of the Dark Lantern is set. Issue #2 is set right before Mad Love, and is a comprehensive look at Fred's backstory and his relationship with the Highwayman, as told by Fred to Beatrice/Wirt/Greg. Issue #3 is another adventure in which we see a bit more of Beatrice's perspective and guilty conscience. Issue #4 is Anna's backstory.
The second series is ongoing (you can buy a subscription as well as the previous issues on Comixology). Half the adventures take place post-canon as Greg (and later Wirt) wind up in the Unknown when they're asleep. The other half of the adventures are Anna's life at home on her own, meeting the ghost of her mother among other things.
There are also a few issues in there so far illustrated by George Mager, which are tales of Langtree's classroom written picture-book-style.
Wonderful! Thank you so much, and please correct me if I'm understanding this incorrectly.
Originally there was a special issue and a four-issue miniseries, which has since been collected in an anthology of sorts, called Over the Garden Wall: Tome of the Unknown.
Similarly, the ongoing series is shipped individually each month, but there are "volumes" available which contain multiple of these comics bound together? Those volumes are the two amazon links you've provided, with the yet unreleased volume 3 being at this link.
And then there's the second special, the naming of which confuses me because it's called "2017 Special #1", which may or may not end up being included in volume 3.
Am I incorrect in any of this?
If you have Apple, you can get it on iTunes! Besides that though, the only other place I could find was Amazon, which says “Currently unavailable” for me. I assume you don’t have YouTube Premium or Music, but if you did, I believe one of those would let you download it as well. Hopefully one of those works out for you! :)
Pretty sure she uses stalk sowing scissors like these
Not to hard to find ive seen a few pairs in real life.
The collection you mentioned contains both the four-part miniseries and the special I mentioned. Their covers are very similar.
Its understandable for the OTGW books to be out of stock. But Bags?
Naw, dude. No free PDF.
Buy the book: Bags
I've been collecting vinyl for about two years, and I'd recommend an audio technica AT-LP120. This turntable is GREAT and it comes with a great needle. I actually have one myself. If you want something cheaper than $300, go with the Audio Technica AT-LP60 which is still ok although it shouldn't be permanent. I really wouldn't recommend an all in one unit, as it has really bad sound quality and this amazing soundtrack deserves to be listened to on something nice. For a cassette player, here's a pretty nice one that also converts them to an mp3. https://tinyurl.com/y7t2738j
I know I'm a broken record when it comes to recommending this, but I love Amazon's Comixology. I used to get physical comics but had some issues along the way too, but Comixology releases the digital comics on the same day that the physical ones come out.
You can read it here on Tapas.
I highly recommend it. Gave me a similar vibe to Over the Garden Wall because it has a wholesome, Halloweeny theme with occasional tragedy.
I also run /r/LavenderTowne, so consider joining if you like it.
In for something live-action? A show called Anne With An "E". Is the perfect sweet spot that OTGW left behind. You can even check out the trailer if you'd like.
thank you so much for this helpful explanation! i knew there were different comics produced for the series but i wasn't sure what was the difference between all of them.
somehow, very unfortunately, the pages you helpfully linked give me a "site error" message, which is a bummer ):
i found these versions on book depository though; is this the first special, and this part of the ongoing series?
edit: oh whoops, just realised the reddit sidebar has details of the different comics that were produced! would love to see what the miniseries looks like (and buy/read it too)... hopefully the comixology page would start up ok again later!

all they have is the #1-4 series, theres a series that came out and is still coming out that's written by Jim Campbell
They have one I can buy but only view online, I'm looking for the physical copies. https://www.comixology.com/Over-The-Garden-Wall-2016-1/digital-comic/344795
If you haven't already you should check out the OTGW comic. (Four more are coming soon.)
Thank you! Yes, they are the Titans Cartoon Network mystery figures. I got them from my local comic store but I'm not sure if they are still sold in stores. https://www.amazon.com/Cartoon-Network-Collection-Titans-Mini-Figure/dp/B071WQY59F
They're a little pricy for a mystery figure imo so eBay may be a good option so you can know which one you're getting lol.
I'm certain Wirt's cape is meant to be a circa WWII nurse's cape, but I can't find patterns for that anywhere. This Simplicity 8263 https://www.amazon.com/Simplicity-Creative-Patterns-Pattern-Capelets/dp/B01LZBNRTP looks closest. Maybe pattern C without the arm slits? Or mash up the body of D with the collar from A?
Try searching vintage camping lantern I found a ton on Amazon: Rustic Old Fashioned Light Up Lantern, Metal/Glass https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BLPSGG8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8H4MZS75191R6RR6P6XA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
A region B Blu-ray was released.
If you're going to go for an OTGW theme box. You can't go wrong with Stork Scissors . These scissors saved many families who were turned into bluebirds. 🐦

it says its out of stock now :( but here it is so you can be there to get it!
All of the comics are canon, but I think I know what you mean. The first 5 take place directly during the show (4 about the main gang, and 1 about the woodsman's daughter), so they are the most canon I suppose. Those 5 are now in an actual book, which I really recommend, it's very nicely put together. The on-going series (Greg's dreams, Wirt's dreams, the Woodsman's daughter, and occasionally Langtree's school) can be found at about half of most comic book stores, I've been to around 7 or so shops lately, and had luck at 3 of them.
There's also this, this I ordered a while back. Still hasn't shipped, and it says it came out a month ago. It will probably be cancelled.
