I think (think) it sorta started with this, which was made by a fellow Redditor (can't remember their name):

Basically, it's adding Levistus as a sort of alternate big bad for the end of the campaign, which adds oomph to the Ythryn chapter. There's certainly no official version yet a la mandymod's mod for Curse of Strahd.
In my version (I think), Levistus is interested in the Spindle in Ythryn because it could dispel the magic that's keeping him encased in ice. Avarice is working for him, making her way in a sort of parallel to the party in a search for Ythryn (basically getting them to do her work for her in getting access to the glacier, etc.). So the final battle will be something maybe in Stygia or somewhere Stygia-adjacent.
Hi all,
This Arctic Temple may be the perfect location to fight a BBEG that can fly.
The free map is 50 x 50 @ 75 pps while the patron versions and lava alternate go up to 300 pps.

Big fan of Russian Winter on Tabletop Audio to set the mood at the start of every session.
Prewrite or at least plan the horror scene descriptions. Whether it's a lake monster, a ghost, a frozen body, or that dwarven cultist dying... plan that out to feel cinematic.
Use white. I could cite Herman Melville but whiteness is the color of terror. White table cloth, white dice, you get the idea.
Also, Familiaize yourself with this website, It has some great stuff. Shameless plug, even though I need to add the rest of my sessions. I run the Followers of the Flame group, you can zoom out and see the Adventure Summary on the far far far left. https://miro.com/app/board/o9J\_khvn65k=/
Wizkids has a helmed horror mini available. I painted it not too long ago. If you want, you could modify it by getting some green stuff putty and sculpt a dome shaped head. Here are links to the mini and the putty. Hope this helps.

I'm currently using Notion. At first glance it might seem like One Note (Evernote, you name it...) but I think it is far more powerful once you get used to it and see it as a database and not just note taking. The learning curve might be a bit steep at first and you have to understand the basic principals and not just use it like other note taking tools, but there are some great tutorials on YouTube and I find it very useful.
Basically I start with creating different tables e.g. for NPCs, Places, Factions...
Then I link all these tables where applicable e.g. the "Faction" Council of Speakers is linked to the NPCs and the NPCs are linked to their towns. And for every line in a table (the dataset itself) I add notes as necessary like the description of an NPC, link to a quest and so on.
Additionally I have ToDo List of what I still want to prepare, list of ideas and so on. Sometimes it might be a bit overkill, but some things I just do to learn more about notion.
The basic idea was based on this template: RPG campaign (notion.so)
But I've changed it pretty much over the time. The advantage is, that I also have some kind of "DND Master Database" with basic info on races, locations and so on and I can link these data in every campaign. So once I've done my research on something, I can use it for every campaign if necessary.
I'm in session 5 tonight. So far I planned all the encounters because I wanted to force some specific foreshadowing. But starting tonight I wanted to try adding this anytime we travel, or a couple times during longer travel/rest, I'm going to start having everyone roll a d12. I'll roll one publicly and one privately. If the same number gets rolled 3 times we'll have an encounter. I'm going to play around with the odds to see how frequently an encounter happens.
I was using this to play around with how frequently encounters would happen in different combinations of dice. I might ramp it up to roll d6 if it is very dangerous territory. https://www.omnicalculator.com/statistics/dice
Thanks! I didn't make the flow chart though, that was u/Thorax. They have this whole idea board with a lot of other useful information on it: https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_khvn65k=/?moveToWidget=3074457352298886861&cot=12.
Hey everyone! From a Discord chat on awakened beasts recently, I cooked up a quick little Miro board addition to discuss the different awakened animals in the module, where they come from, and some potential ideas for backstory behind them. The colors reflect the levels at which you would typically encounter them in the module.
I'm personally partial towards making chardalyn a replacement material component for gemstone-requiring spells, hence helping to reflect how important/valuable it is, and tying it better to the regional story. But there's lots of good options out there.
I'm curious to hear other ideas for how people are handling the expensive awakenings in the area. :)
You clearly haven't done as much digging into the quests as I have done. They have done a great job of planting seeds for lots of quests all over (e.g. psi-crystal attunes to Id Insinuation) to make up for the random tables. But a few quests have very few entrypoints and could easily be overlooked and when things are SO varied and so scattered, guides really help with that. This is why this great guide/recommendation here does a lot more seed planting for different characters/quests to build more behind them because a few get a little bit left behind in that department (like Jarlmoot). There's so much content here-- and when you run it, you might accidentally reveal stuff before needed (e.g. Easthaven ferry) and lead low level characters into bad situations.
Note that I'm not at all saying WOTC did a bad job, they did a tremendous job. I'm loving this. There's just a lot of value that is hard to unpack given the density of this product.
Unfortunately I don't know of any easy way to get them. I've only seen them in the Icons of the Realm random boxes. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089FS3X7Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_61YM06RKHMY1PPXE9QFX

Used to be on the D&D homepage under the summer of Drizzt thing they did last year, but it seems like it disappeared. Article above quotes all we were given.

I presume as part of the same push, R.A. Salvatore released a new Drizz't novel about the Starlight Elves (Aevendrow). I've not read it personally.
We weren't really given much except for a quick blurb of "not all drow are bad, here's an example".
Totally, I also used the official screens and then started to replace them.
I use this 4-panel screen, nice and cheap. All four of those panels on each side are empty sleeves like a binder cover.
Then, I find a high-res image I like for the environment, crop it at a 34x11 aspect ratio, and then use an online dividing app to break it into four pieces and turn them into a PDF. Then, I get those printed along with the map, and use those for inserts that I can change depending on the environment (the other side of that map has inserts for icy caves).
It sounds arduous, but in an hour or two you can prep all of the inserts you need for months of gameplay. Honestly, the most brutal part is finding all of the perfect images!

Of course right after I get it it goes on sale -_-
Here's what I use. It stores plenty of minis, with customizable foam for larger minis, some space for supplies. and it has a nice shoulder strap. I think there's also smaller and larger options of this same bag if you need it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KRRXHGJ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_ND0NDFGJQSZ8900R4Y4Y?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Hey u/Adamace09, I see you made these maps in DungeonDraft.
Is there any way I could get your original map files? I'm asking because there's a module for Foundry VTT to automatically import the map at its appropriate tile-grid size, its walls, its lights, and its doors.
If it's too much to ask, then I do apologize.
This looks fantastic. Just curious, did you make the polar bears medium sized for any reason in particular? I know polar bear stl files were a challenge for me to find though I did find these that have them at their proper large size. https://www.youmagine.com/designs/polar-bear-for-tabletop-gaming
Find the map online then import it using https://rasterbator.net/ . Please pay no attention to the name its not a joke link. This will allow you to take the map and allow you to covert it into a pdf that has different section of the map in full page panels that are easier to lay out and cover up. you still end up having to print them off but they are more manageable and its a free conversion. I handle all my IRL large sized maps this way.
Sure thing. Here's a generic version you should be able to download directly (https://imgur.com/a/EMTT8Rj) and here is a copy of the source file in a tool called Figma (https://www.figma.com/file/qcMxbDgrjF0rRVt4oIYQXs/Icewind-Dale-Campaign-Landing-Page?node-id=0%3A1).
If you're interested in customizing it more, you could make a copy of that file in Figma (it's free for individual users) and then move / add / delete assets from the image.
Let me know if that works for you or if you have any questions!
Aw, thanks!

Think about the room you're playing in, lights and audio. I try to keep the room as dark as possible while still being able to read and look at minis and all, we have rgb lights & candles which also add to the ambience.
If you have a speaker of some kind try using some background noise and music. I've been enjoying tabletop audio because their tracks tend to have pretty minimal music mixed with sounds of wind, water, etc., and I've found that to be a good combination. Outside of combat you're not really looking to blast Duel of the Fates in the background, you know?
what do you use for your voice chat app? cause if its discord there are a bunch of apps (groovy, Rythm) that can take spotify playlist links, they don't actually play through spotifiy, I think that they use the song data and find the track on youtube :)
if you're using something else that requires just youtube videos then you could use a service like this one
and if you use music through the roll20 jukebox (idk why you'd do that!) then you could maybe use a Virtual Audio Cable
https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_l6UqXXA=/ my travel log if it helps at all.
For ambiance I really think it's getting it in their head that this is traveling and the villages are beat up and run down and are luxury living compared to how they'll be spending most of their time. If you want to isolate them even more you can tone down how nice people are that give them quests but the only reason they do them is gear, information, and potions. Otherwise, there's nothing for anyone to spare and commerce is almost entirely dead - except for the wealthier Zhentarim merchandise who deal in fair costs still, there's just more to the price > D
But if you're talking in person stuff like mittens and frosted cookies, I got nothing. Not sure what you're looking for
I ran it as a dmpc and one player who had 2 pcs for 60 sessions and had a blast. I found the module to be severely under leveled and even being lower than the suggested level for the entire game AND buffing the living shit out of things (40 hp, AC 17 duergar etc) we cleaned house.

That should cover most of the journey we had in case you're curious

It’s a hard adventure to DM, but it’s a lot of fun! My best advice is know when to introduce different storylines. Like others have said, there’s 4 storylines going on at once, so keep track of them, or even abandon ones you don’t like!
This helped me immensely to visualize the adventure as well:
https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_khvn65k=/
Additionally, a good way to lay out the adventure is to make a timeline. I personally overlaid it on top of the provided adventure structure in the book with the different chapters, and seeing where things fit in for the order they happen. Good luck!
Thanks so much for putting this together, I was going to use this on the Miro board I made (Frostboard) unless you had an objection. This is a great handout for players and I'm also going to annotate it a bit for my board and campaign :D
Awesome! Hopefully there's a few gems in there that are useful. Those things come in handy with such a complex module (for me, anyway) :)
I got a lot of great feedback on the timeline piece, kinda wish there was one of those for all the modules (of course, mine is a bit focused on an alt-backstory, but still).
It bothered me how confusing the height was for a map that is supposed to be driving the party crazy by its continuous descent. So I recolored and shaded it to make it easier to tell the different heights involved as you navigate it.
I've added these to the ever-growing Rime miro board here. Just more free stuff I use in my campaigns, hope it comes in handy!
I'll re-post my two ambient sounds for the caves if they come in handy as well.
Hoping to use this map to do a room-by-room expanded Skant dialogue, as Professor Skant has become quite the fun character in my game. :)
Love it! Such a great setup. Tried to do that electronically on the Miro board and realized the whole adventure needed some cross-referencing so focused on that first. :)
I'd love your help! Thoughts, suggestions, opinions? What's the disruptive, game-breaking, or mundane things in the story and how do they rank against everything else?
This is just an early partial section for the Miro board that I wanted to put together to help people kind of gauge the relative power level of things in the story. I'd love to get your take-- obviously there's a lot of things missing here! I'm just taking a stab at it currently and the final chart may be very large. :)
I've been trying to put together a lot of the community options around 3/4 on the Miro board here. A lot of people agree that this is a tough/weird decision...
I actually updated the Miro board to use those dark maps (at least for Halloween). You should be able to click on one of the map graphics and download it if you need. :) https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_khvn65k=/

As far as I know this has the maps in it
I'll be the old man who points up at the posted megathread on this sub about copyright.
Art costs money. Artists work should be compensated when they wish to be.
You can do this hobby free. There's plenty of free art and maps. You can make your own with light effort.
But more importantly, if it's really so necessary you have this one copyrighted map... You can buy the entire book for $25 right now, which is an absurd value.
I just bought one of these. But i can see how making one like what you got could be helpful with remembering the time frames better.
