OANN gets it's revenue from Advertising.
That's their weak spot, their Achilles heel.
The owners are local and while they're "loaded" they're also not going to keep pouring money into something that is all costs and nothing coming into the front door.
Right now, I see a iHeartRadio advert on their main page.
Get to iHeart and have them pull those adverts.
It's a sound business decision for them to drop these people and their ideas like a hot potato if they're going to lose more money than what they get form their conservative base.
It's just that simple, history has shown it works
All you're doing by protesting is "feeding the troll", that the shit that they really want to see and record... they sell conflict (like other media) and they'll love it to have protesters outside looking all "california leftie nuts" to bring more trump lovers in and harden their viewerships base.
It'll also perhaps bring in some of their own nut jobs ready to "make war and do battle" vs the liberal protesters. That's not a good thing either.
You win by having them lose all their money.
For everyone who is confused, the flash flood warning doesn't start until Thursday evening (1/28) at 7pm. It's not for right now. We're supposed to get another big storm Thursday night into Friday. Some areas might get 2-3 inches of rain.

Of course you got down voted, but like you: I grew up in San Diego, albeit East County and had several no-school days due to the heat in the 80's.
If a school lacks Air Conditioning, they are required to shutdown due to public safety.
Further, this is our normal summertime and sorry, normal heat. Not new people; quit forgetting we have extremely hot summer days from August - November.
Bought my dash-cam a month ago, $25 on Amazon, a great purchase I recommend. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M66PJJY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have found that weather underground (wunderground.com) has very accurate forecasting. They're saying mid-70's next week for Clairemont.
Your link says:
>The Week Ahead:
>Low pressure will weaken high pressure this weekend, pushing the high eastward as it weakens. This will enhance onshore wind flow in the region. This onshore flow will cool temperatures by several degrees in the inland communities this weekend. Marine layer will also strengthen this weekend, helping cool temperatures and increasing cloud persistence. Limited cloud clearing is expected in the afternoon for the inland areas. >Slight warming is expected for the earlier parts of the coming week as a weak high pressure passes through the region. Temperatures will
I think getting the weather report from tv is going away and to fight that trend the stations create more "click-baity" headlines to keep you interested.
I have an Insignia Pico projector. I tried to find a link for one but couldn’t find it. I purchased it about 4-5 years ago. For the power source I used a regular cell phone power bank
Thats oddly specific...good luck haha
I'd also suggest buying a dashcam, literally plug and play (cigarette lighter) and turns on automatically when the car starts...also easy to hide cables behind trimming...this is the one I have and its hidden behind my rearview mirror, I dont even notice its there
For those of you with dogs and want to avoid the smell while carrying your bag, I highly recommend Arm & Hammer brand dog bags with baking soda and scented. They do a great job of hiding doo-doo smell.

I bought this one. It has a wide angle lens, G-sensor (saves recording in a crash) and it’s easily mounted on the windshield, also, the shape of the dash cam makes it possible to be discrete.
Edit: It’s expensive but there are other models that are cheaper but may lack some fancy features. The key is to have a dash cam, be it a $300 gizmo or a $20 Walmart special, anything will help in an incident.
I like the book Afoot and Afield San Diego County as it will cover access, etc and even where to park. Often trail heads are pretty well defined with parking lots.

As for etiquette. I'm only ever annoyed by people playing music without headphones. I tend to say hello to people as we pass them. Just normal human etiquette will work.

Upvoted for visibility. Cox and others can burn in hell! Everyone should be using antennae for their TV.
And on unrelated/related note: everyone should use Google voice for home phone! It's free and you can keep your number! All you need is internet and one of these. Stop paying AT&T and others $10 a month for phone service that is you could get for free from superior Google voice!
Edit: Just kidding. I've always found hobbies are the best way to meet male and female friends. In my case birdwatching. But it could be anything from metal detecting to off-roading.
Uh, no. We got less than 0.10" in most of the county. My weather station (near Mission Valley) only picked up 0.03":

A changing mat for his car that will sinch up to hold the dripping wetsuit to protect the interior on his ride home. Also protects his wetsuit from scrapping against asphalt when he changes out in parking lots. Goes for like $20-30. Not a lot of surfers have them but those who do love them. Most surf shops have them but you can probably find one online too.
You could also get him a hooded poncho towel that he can use to change out easily in public as well. I was a lifeguard for years and I love those things

Are these useful beyond in a jokey sense? Sounds like a lot of work for a product whose value is going to be extremely arguable.
If it does get off the ground, having it be crowdsourced and in the cloud linked to, e.g., OSM, is probably the best way to do it.
It's nice to see that we'll be getting some rain next week, although probably not as much as Phoenix (which is currently forecasted to get a more direct hit).
I do find the path of this hurricane to be rather interesting though. It's not often that you see a hurricane just straight up nope the fuck out and demonstrate retrograde movement like that. It must be the jet stream that's pushing it eastward.
It's also fairly uncommon for a hurricane over here to actually make landfall as a named storm, as is forecasted here -> https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/eastern-pacific/2018/hurricane-rosa?map=forecast
edit- just to be clear, I'm not implying that this will actually be a hurricane when it gets here/to Phoenix, lol. At worst it'll be a tropical storm, but most likely it'll just be a normal low at that point.
Only one I can kind of think that fits is the Spruce Street Suspension Bridge.
You can’t be serious?
We just had what was the remaining arm of a hurricane come through the area?
This week is FAR from dry - currently the humidity is over 80%
If you’re having a problem just wait until we have a Santa Anna and the humidity drops down into the low teens and we have wildfires burning up all the vegetation from the rains this last year.
You might want to move out of SD if you can’t handle this July muggy weather because this is NOTHING compared to what’s usually thrown at us around here.
Remember the La Niña “blob” well it’s still there and changed our weather patterns so that we actually have had precipitation and it’s been very humid here these last few months as a result
This is based on an idiotic TripAdvisor study that just compared the average ratings of a city's pizza places.
So it doesn't measure the cities with the best pizza; it measures the cities with the easiest-to-please pizza buyers.
Ignoring that you consider $1200 per person affordable (seriously?) lets compare the numbers here.
According to Google, $400k on a 30 year mortgage with a 10% down payment is roughly $2000 / month.
$600k on the same terms would be $3000 / month.
For a 2-3 bedroom house, the rates are just about even to if you rented.
I get paranoid about this as well specially when I want to go for a long swim at like La Jolla Cove or something so what I did is buy a real estate lock box for like $20 off amazon. I leave all my valuables in the car and only bring what I need (towel goggles) and then lock my key in the box and attach to my wheel or trailer hitch.
Here is a link to the lock box I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-5400D-Set-Your-Own-Combination/dp/B0002YP1VC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1508131816&sr=8-1&keywords=real+estate+lock+boxes

Hi! Welcome to the neighborhood. It's mostly retirees and very young families in SM.
I'd recommend checking out the mid-city area (North Park, Hillcrest, Normal Heights) for good restaurants/hangouts. Try meetup.com and attend a few events - you'll make a friend or two and likely be introduced to a large group of new friends :).
> That's because our country was built by immigrants.
Yeah that's BS. This land mass was resource rich due to the depopulation from European disease of the millions of people that had lived here for thousands of years. Built? not quite... more like the exploitation of the natural resources, and cheap labor (immigrant / slave).
Perhaps you should read Howard Zinn's <strong>A peoples History ofthe United States</strong>
might as well watch the netflix Untold History while you're at it.
Re the huddled masses:
That was written to elicit money for the construction of the statue's base. It's not policy and never was.
It was marketing from the victorian age and it's about time that people realize that.

Check the history of a location near where you are staying. Coldest temp will be just before sunrise.
>Amster said when a car backs into one of his customer's vehicles in the multi-business parking lot, the Sheriff’s Dept. won't respond, claiming the parking area is private property.
Holy shit! According to Google Maps, the Sheriff's Station IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THERE!
Nice photos. I'm just getting into quadcopters, started out by building a 250 size frame.
Just be careful of full size airplanes. As a Cessna 172 pilot in San Diego there's a lot of airplanes and henceforth a lot of restricted airspace in San Diego that does not allow quadcopter\RC flights. It's also common for airplanes to be at 500ft above the water when flying the coast.
A good resource I've found is, https://www.mapbox.com/drone/no-fly/
Even with the new FAA allowing flights without permits, you are still excluded from airspace near airport, military bases and others. It will be nice once the FAA finally gets their shit figured out so we all have a set of rules and know what to expect..

Only allow your dog to walk on one side of your body. Even if they are walking in front of you they are either walking on the left side or right side. I like right side because it makes the next step easier. Which ever side you choose keep treats in that pocket and just give them to your dog it help renforce for them to stay on that side.
While you’re walking if you see another dog coming in the opposite direction take your dog off the sidewalk on the a driveway or grass make them sit and stand in between your dog and the oncoming dog. As the other dog approaches keep repeating sit.
Other things that will help is having them sit at stop signs and stop lights. I’m not a trainer but I’ve 100Lbs+ pound dogs my whole life and whenever I get a puppy I do this for the first 2 years and after that they are angels. Good luck.

Tip: get a mini IR thermometer and clip it to their leash. That allows you to check the temp any time there's any question about how hot the pavement is.
I have been using this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JZ3RTMD
Some caveats about the above model: this model seems to always reset to Celsius on its own, so it's easiest to just read in Celsius (50C is 122F, so you should be concerned if you're getting up into that range). It doesn't have a great clip, so I pass some baling wire through the clip to create a loop to attach to the poop bag holder I keep on the leash.
We have this one and have no complaints. The big wheels are essential if you plan on bringing it to the beach. We live in an apartment and have to put it in storage, so being able to collapse is a huge plus.
I don't but you can buy one that works with your phone and a smartphone app that reads it for pretty cheap.

This is what happens when there's a monopoly's been established over a certain area.
The costs for powering a fiber optic line is insanely cheap and that these ISP's are gouging people because they really don't have any other option.
My suggestion is to:
Dump the phone option... use G+ to make phone calls to people's cell phones, computers or land lines. There's other ViOP options out there bypass the ISP's rip off "phone" concept entirely.
Get a "internet only account" with your own modem - DO NOT RENT a modem. (fry's)
Speed test your connection and if it's less than 1/10 your max speed call them for a tech to come out and trouble shoot your issue. The problem might be the servers on the other end being throttled (Slow lane net neutrality problems ) or it might actually be your ISP's. I've had to troubleshoot my parents connections, with TW. They pay through the nose for a max speed connection they got "sold" to them. As they were led to believe that "a bigger pipe will allow more water through" .. the problem is actually with the ISP's network and their having some bad nodes on the street / congestion. A basic connection that worked was more than enough for them and their needs.
Push for the government to require "net neutrality" and to break up the cable system monopolies to introduce real competition among these companies that are gang raping everyone in the city.

Yes, Puerto Santo Thomas is good and cheap. The dirt road is passable with a low-clearance vehicle. Lots of washboard when I drove it a month ago however. It's a very small fishing village. Bring your own water, food, beer etc. It's a quick drive from Ensenada to get to the turn off. One military checkpoint on the way.
We camped there (my GF and me) alone for two days. Just the ocean, fishing boats and our books. Was fairly windy at night though. Good times. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g150769-d1895779-Reviews-Puerto_Santo_Tomas_Resort-Baja_California.html
You may want to get the NatGeo Baja North map... it's $19 but worth it. Or try AAA.
Have fun!
Like the other guy said, it sounds like your hard drive is almost dead. STOP trying to use it ASAP, otherwise it could become COMPLETELY unreadable by a normal PC repair shop. Check out slickdeals for cheap hard drives or SSDs, sign up for Fry's email offers, they've had a lot of good SSD deals lately, e.g. 250gb SSD for $56. Also this expires today I think, and as much as I hate best buy, they had a good deal going on with this: https://slickdeals.net/f/10314140-bestbuy-get-a-minimum-75-best-buy-gift-card-with-trade-in-of-working-laptop-b-m I used to own a small PC refurbishing PC business, you can get really good deals on craigslist sometimes for basic, temporary laptops. Then you can use that and a USB>SATA convertor from Amazon and transfer your data yourself for super cheap.
There was a reddit post that turned into a SignonSandiego article awhile back that I think sort of answers the question: " “In California and in the city of San Diego, street parking in residential areas is considered public parking, and cannot be reserved. As officers have time, they may remove orange cones illegally placed in the street. (They will be placed on the sidewalk), said Detective Lt. Natalie Stone in a 2016 post on Nextdoor. "
So, if neighbor isn't allowed to block the spot, she certainly can't save it without blocking it. It's public parking; first come first served. If she hassles you aggressively tell her you'll need to call the police.
I would highly recommend checking thus app out. It's literally an airbnb but for RV and Tent campsites on people's private land. My parents have an RV and they use it all the time.

I've lived in SD my entire life(30 years) and have never had A/C.
Blackout curtains and a fan in every room(not a shitty ceiling fan). Keep all your windows shut, front door shut, blinds closed, keep all the inside doors open(bathroom, bedrooms, etc), keep the lights off as much as possible, and run all the fans. Set the fans up in a way that you create a cross-breeze throughout the house, with a smaller fan that you can point directly at you.
At night(if the temp drops low enough), you can open the blinds/windows back up to let some of that cooler air in(it should be cool enough at that point to turn a few fans off, too).
Get something like these cooling scarfs that you can soak in water and/or stick in the freezer. Having multiple is good so you can cycle between them throughout the day. I don't know how good that brand is, you may want to shop around for a better/higher quality brand.
If it's SUPER hot, you could try rubbing some of this stuff on your neck/arms/cheeks. It's meant for sunburns(works GREAT for sunburns), but sometimes when it's super hot I'll rub some on and then sit directly in front of a fan. It's a good way to temporarily cool down super quick.
Outside of that...taking a few short(like 30-seconds to 1-minute), cold showers throughout the day can help you quickly cool down.
Doing stuff like this will help keep you cooler, just don't expect to be able to keep it as cool as proper A/C would.
Highly recommend the book "Afoot and Afield San Diego". Info on pretty much every hike in the county, including parking instructions and important access notes.
So ifttt hooks into different programs and apps or whatever and allows them to speak to each other. In this case it's allowing Weather Underground to monitor when it rains, and when it does it records the results to a spreadsheet.
There's all kinds of cool stuff you can do with it. I have it set up to do a few things, my favorite probably being it creating a playlist within Spotify and archive all my Release Radar and Discovery Weekly auto generated playlists each week. Both are up to about 2800 songs.
um, this might work...El Uno Bar.

US Dew Point map. San Diego's is 62. Sacramento's is 56. Use the dew point with a Psychrometric Chart to determine humidity based on current temperature. How to Use the Psychrometric Chart Link to a Psychrometric chart is on that page. San Diego is definitely more humid than Sacramento. FL dew points are ranging from 72-76. They should go down in a couple of weeks.

Parking at Mesa is absolutely, absolutely horrendous. Maybe that's all community colleges, but I just took the T in college and was pretty shocked by it when I tried to take a class here. Once she gets class schedules, if a few different campuses and classes work for her, maybe she could decide by looking at the specific professors.
Check the SD Reddit event calendar or join and post to the facebook page.
Awesome photos! There's another abandoned commune out in Campo [can't find the link at the moment.] I'll post it when I come across it, but from what I recall it looked like it would be best to mountain bike out to it because it looked to be kind of far from the trail head.
There's also an abandoned house with a pool off of Dehesa Rd. and Sloane Canyon Rd being the closest cross street. It's along the lake, and it's trespassing, so enter at your own risk!

I went with the A118C which are $65 on amazon.
Entry level seems to be the GW1 which are aroun $50.
I experimented with cheaper Chinese versions previously, would not recommend.
You also need to buy some flash memory, around $10 per camera. If you can swing it, I would recommend getting one for the dash, and one for the rear.

Fry's usually runs black friday type deals throughout the month. They had the Samsung NU8000 75" for $1200 and the 82" for $2000. This is $500 cheaper than any other advertised price anywhere on the internet. I'm not sure how they do deals like this when they're definitely selling below manufacturer's price limits. Frys has great deals when it comes to black friday.
Last year i got the LG 65B7A OLED for $1800, the price you would pay for a 55" on sale at any other company( for reference, costco Black friday price on the 65" is $2650+ tax.( also price protection-ed $500 off, so i got it for $1300+ tax,(1450).
https://slickdeals.net/ is the best and worst website depending on how you look at it. You'll get amazing deals but also find yourself buying more than you need probably.
I would live in La Jolla if his job is up there. You may not end up working in downtown San Diego and I'd much prefer living in LaJolla than downtown SD. With your budget you could find a much nicer spot than the place on Front St.
Have you visited yet? I bet that may change your opinion on where to live. I'd book an airbnb for a month up in LaJolla and get a feel for the area. Do lots of driving and walking around different neighborhoods.
I'd also look at rental houses, Pt. Loma is a neat neighborhood, Del Mar, Birdrock area just south of LaJolla is one of my favorite places. There are some really cool places at Windansea Beach, not sure how much they rent a month, but with 4K a month I'm sure you could find something.
Here's a cute place to rent just while you're looking, awesome location in Birdrock which is just north of Pacific Beach and just south of La Jolla. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/925146?location=Windansea%20Beach%2C%20CA&adults=2&children=0&infants=0&guests=2&check_in=2018-01-06&check_out=2018-02-03&s=5JuGg8zy
As you are not familiar with the area at all I would not make any decisions until you get an idea for what/where you want to live.
You'll be driving no matter what probably as public transportation is not that great unless you happen to live/work right on the trolley line.
I"m not sure who told you that East Village/Little Italy and Gaslamp were good areas. Little Italy has some awesome restaurants, and unique shops/coffee places, and some good rentals. Gaslamp is pretty touristy, I wouldn't want to live there. And the East Village is not great. too many vagrants, not where you want to live.
Hillcrest/North Park are also good places to look for housing, with lots to do nearby.

If you like mechanical things there is a minature engineering museum in Carlsbad.
If you like model railroads, there is a museum in Balboa Park. A free display in Old Town.
If you like views, they can be found at Cabrillo National park, Kate Sessions Park, Mt. Soledad, Torrey Pines, La Jolla, Sunset Cliffs.
Holy shit. I went down a rabbit hole searching this out of curiosity because I’ve never heard of it and I’m skeptical of a lot of healthcare plans after being burned so many times.
AVOID THIS.
This type of healthcare and the company is so sketchy that it was hard to even find reviews on reputable sites that rate insurance companies and types of insurance. I searched on social media to get first hand accounts of it and most of what I found were obvious bot accounts (who follow each other and all have the same naming convention) who praised this as some kind of golden coverage. There were people on Twitter pleading for people to avoid this coverage due to their bad experiences.
I did find this website who had a reviews posted about it. It basically looks like it doesn’t cover anything at all, it’s difficult to find places that accept it, and you’ll later get a bill for normal services that end up being out of network.
Ladies and gentlemen, you live in California. The healthcare marketplace here has some of the best plans and an incredibly wide range of plans that have decent to amazing coverage. UTILIZE HEALTHCARE BROKERS. Visit with them. Email them. They will help you find a plan that fits your budget and has the coverage you need. And yes, that includes plans with low to zero deductibles. When you search on your own you will find what you expect or something you hate. Visit with the people who do this for a living instead of ending up paying for coverage you don’t need or going bankrupt. Thank you for your time.

Today might be kinda overcast, but when it's even partially sunny there are always one or two volleyball games going on by Tower 3 in Ocean Beach. There are also usually bonfires at night. As a bonus, Sea World does fireworks every night around 9:50; you can see them perfectly from the pier or pretty much anywhere on the beach (avoid the trail at the end of dog beach if you're alone or you'll get abducted by bums).
Go hike Torrey Pines Beach; there're some really nice trails and you get to see pretty much the same view as from the glider port.
Definitely second the Zoo idea too. Maybe convince your brother and sister-in-law to get a 2-person pass. It's $109, but is good for the year and comes with 2 free guest passes (I think normal entry is $50).
Belmont Park in mission beach. Don't know how much the roller coaster is right now ($6 I think), but you can walk around.
The county fair is still in town for another 2 days ($15). But that's up in Del Mar, so might be hard to get to.
It's just starting to get really consistently nice out, so please take advantage of the beaches here. I'm sure you can find someone to loan you a surfboard or take you kayaking if you can't rent one.
Look on meetup.com too, lots of san diego groups!

I don't know anything personally but the internet is a great resource. A few quick searches brought up two sides of the helping. One says you can't help unless they want to be helped, the other says to report it anyway. Either way, I would try to look more at these two sites and make sure you aren't reporting a false claim before calling a helpline or the police.

Thank you for looking out for those around you.
Here's the 5 day weather for the area: http://www.weather.com/weather/5day/l/CASPANZABO:13:US
Cool at night, so have a tent and/or good sleeping bag.
Also, that reading is for the valley floor near the visitor's center, the weather can be warmer or cooler at elevations.
The state park magazine shows the altitudes of some of the named campgrounds: http://issuu.com/anzaborregofoundation/docs/park_magazine_2016_finalweb
Overall, it should be a good week to go, aside from the cool nights. I would expect things to not be too busy, given the holiday. Obviously the visitor's center and most of Borrego Springs will be closed for Christmas, but the park itself is open to you.
I really like Blair Valley, as it's a bit sheltered, so the wind won't beat you up there, and the main campground is easily accessible to any vehicle. Little Blair Valley of farther down a dirt road, but is even nicer provided your vehicle isn't too long or low to make it. 4wd not needed, but you can't manage a big RV or low slung Miata out there. Hiking trails to the Marshall South Cabin site and morteros and petroglyphs in that area too.
The other choice is Hawk Canyon or other areas off the 78. The Slot is an iconic hiking destination in that area. Hawk Canyon is well sheltered and can be glorious but the neighbors were having a private Burning Man out there the last time I visited, and loud music late into the night isn't my thing. :(
Do a search on Anza Borrego camping or hiking and you'll come up with several great resources. DesertUSA.com and hikespeak.com have a lot of good info in particular.
If you want a destination that's car-friendly also, check out galletameadows.com for info on the sculpture park.
Good luck!
I'll bring it to the BBQ on Saturday!

EDIT (6/2/2011 @20:16): looks like ice cream isn't happening. :( Will double check regarding BBQ.
EDIT, added credit where credit is due for the poster.
LOL...the "rain" predicted for this weekend is nothing like the rain you might get in NYC this time of year or even here during the winter. 0.03-0.08 inches of rain won't ruin your plans. Enjoy.
Uh, no. I don't want to "ban" any source of info.
Just use this man.
Something that may help: They make these cat shields for most makes/models which cost $100-$200.
May be worth the investment, especially for those who have had this happen at least once.
Someone I follow who lives in Florida says mosquitos hate wind, so they always have fans going on their patio. Between the fans and the plants that mosquitos don’t like (I forget what they are) they never get bit.
Bug spray works for me. And I when I get bit I use a bug zapper on my bite and it significantly helps with itching.

I like hiking to Los Panasquitos Canyon Waterfall starting at Camino Ruiz Park. It's relatively tree covered and ends up at a waterfall. I wouldn't call it "wooded" but it's one of the more tree covered trails I've found in the city. Runs about 5 miles out and back. Pretty flat except the beginning/end.

YES, there is a 4LB california burrito challenge. It's $15.
Interesting thing is, the lady posted the video to the internet herself, some day that kid is going to see it, gonna have justified mommy issues. And it's not like mom is a model citizen anyway. Also this.
To the lead officer... kudos to you sir. Well handled.
On behalf of the media group for Occupy SD, PLEASE come show your support. Our activities this weekend capped out at a couple hundred people, but we need to see more!

I went to one called Flot on Kettner Blvd. Great experience. True sensory-deprivation, the whole 9. Here is a GroupOn that'll give you a 2-hour session for $48. I was originally put onto float tanks from listening to Joe Rogan's podcast and apparently the same company that designed his tank did the ones for this company as well, so I'd say it's pretty legit.

So they are casing houses in your area. Having a dog makes your house more less likely to get burglarized, but youre still open to some theft. Leave a bike out, its gone. Leave the garage door open? its probably gone.
Best thing you can do is buy the security camera system at costco and install it. Its up to you how much you want to spend, but THIS is an ok system and will do the job.
You want to have visible cameras on the outside of your house. I would also get a "beware of dog" sign for your fence, or near your front door. If you dont own a gun, id also look into that. Home invasion is a real thing and it happens more than people think around our "safe city."
Oh well I was doing some purple cherokee this year but got hit by a tomato leaf curl virus so I ended up with basically nothing to show for it. :(
Yup! I've actually never been along the tracks. Some friends and I went a few winters ago. You start at the Mortero palms oasis on the eastern side of the mountain ridge the bridge is part of, then hike up and over. You go down the steep canyon perpendicular to the bridge. It's tough with lots of elevation gain and scrambling, but its only 6 miles instead of 14.
I don't think a lot of people know about it. When I went we saw no one going that way but about a dozen people at the bridge who had taken the tracks.

I go to New Jersey once or twice a year for family and the only direct routes there are United and Alaska and I've had no issues with either of them.
If you haven't tried Google Flights, it's the best way IMO to find available flights to where you're going and can look at nearby airports also. https://www.google.com/flights
Once again... the money the NFL makes is doled out to the teams, who in turn pay the taxes. The teams are the NFL. As for the convention center? You're right. That was built with public money, those who use it pay... just like a stadium. The Chargers pay the city to use it... as do the Aztecs, any concerts, truck pulls, ect, ect. If a new stadium were to be built, anyone who uses it would still pay rent. It would also be easier to get more tenants into a modern building. An MLS team would surely come. The difference with Carson, the reason Spanos would be able to build a private stadium and wouldn't have to pay rent, is because there's more money to go around up there and he and his partners would be able to recoup their investment. From the latest I hear, the Chargers are going full steam ahead on that stadium opportunity. Sadly, the era of publicly funded stadiums in California are over, San Diego missed the boat on keeping one of it's biggest promotional faces in town... along with the Comic-con. But hey, we're still number seven on Trip Advisor's best destinations in the US. For now.
Edit: speiliing.
Here's the thread.
His name is Micheal. I've seen him react with hostility to people offering him help and punching cars as he walked up and down the street. You can read in the nextdoor thread that people in the neighborhood have reoccurring problems with him defecating on their doorsteps/stairs to their buildings.
It's a really sad situation and obviously, he is mentally unwell.
Create a LinkedIn account, or if you already have one, update it with as much as you can (current job title, location, education, job history with details, etc). I've mostly relied on LinkedIn. (I also use Dice, but that's specifically for tech.) Write a bio that talks about the kinds of things you're looking to do. The more info you have in your profile, the more you'll show up in searches.
In your profile settings, there's a setting you can turn on called "Let recruiters know you're open to opportunities." There are other settings you can switch on or open up that make it easier for recruiters to find you (internal or third party). I think there's a setting where you can select which areas you're looking for jobs in. But, being in Irvine, you'll probably get pitches for positions in San Diego anyway. (I frequently get pitches for jobs in Irvine and LA.)
If someone sends you a connection request, accept. Even if it's a third party recruiter, they're networked with other recruiters, and you'll become visible to them too.
Aside from that, you can investigate San Diego job fairs. It seems like they happen pretty frequently. There might also be community meetups (check Meetup.com) or networking events hosted by some specific company or industry group. Hit the Google machine and see what you find.
Looks like there's a Groupon for Catalina ($44 roundtrip vs $70). I know if you travel on your actual birthday w/ the other ferry (Catalina Express), your ticket is free with the purchase of another adult ticket, but they range from $70-$112 round trip.
Maybe rent a cabin in Big Bear for the weekend. You may be able to do some hiking and exploring around the lake.
Take a day or weekend trip down to Baja. Relax on the beach, eat some tacos.
You could check out the Groupon for Crab Catcher in La Jolla. It is over-rated without the groupon ($60 for $100, plus you can usually get 20% off the discounted price with a code). The best thing they have going for them is the view of the cove, plus it's in cute lil la jolla and tourists love that crap!
https://www.groupon.com/deals/crab-catcher-7
Even if you don't choose this restaurant, check out groupon to get a discount on fancy places. It's a fun way to pretend you're rich!
