Report on the One Show starts from about the 8 minute mark here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0003mhj/the-one-show-25032019
Absolutely ridiculous, such an antiquated and infuriating rule these clubs have. There is no excusable reason to not allow women into a snooker club. Good on Rebecca Kenna for taking a stand.
Snooker Scores Live is an excellent alternative to an official app. It's what I, as well as a lot of others on this subredit uses. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lt.mvbrothers.snookerslive
I totally agree though. An official app from World Snooker would be awesome.
I just had a look on iPlayer
It's the same graphic, he replaced the theme music with the original Drag Racer.
I live in Canada. I used to check out a few free streaming sites every now and then. This was one of the better
But I got tired of the stuff you need to contend with, when it comes to free streaming sites. Pop up ads, video quality/buffering often times not showing all matches that should be showing. So I eventually bit the bullet, and subscribed to EuroSport (). But since we can't get EuroSport in North America, I also needed to get a VPN account. The one I use is ExpressVPN. It's super easy to use, and the speed/consistency has been great. Overall, my current arrangement has been great.
Both accounts combined cost me about $180 CAD/year (approx $130-$140 $11-$12/month).
I played around for a couple years with free streaming, but in the end I'm so much happier with the EuroSport account. Quality is great, plus lots of other sports on there as well.
Good luck.
Hi, here it is, was launched today, hope it is usefull: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.weebly.renatogsousa.snookerfoulandmiss
Get a VPN client and you can watch it directly on the BBC website. I'm not familiar with PC applications, but if you are on a Mac Netshade works great.
For anyone interested, I wrote a small script on my server to push messages to myself with pushover, if someone wants those messages as well, you could PM me your API key.
It checks the live snooker scores every 30 seconds when a match is on, every 15 seconds when either player has more then 50 points and sends a message when the frame score changes.
I think £150 is a bit much for a first cue/intermediate player - as long as the cue is well made and straight, with a good tip, that is enough really.
The price point of the snooker cue is not going to affect your game to the extent that the equipment in other sports can (cricket bats, tennis racquets, ping pong bats etc). That is unless you are physically unusual e.g. very short or very tall, and need a custom cue to compensate for that which can be expensive.
I just played with a new cue off Amazon for the first time today (my old one got damaged); https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FDKOG5C/
£59.99 for the cue, case and extensions and it's nice quality (straight grain, good joints etc), after sticking a quality tip on there (I like ADR147 mediums) I don't think the cue could be to blame for any shot I don't execute well. Perhaps if my game improved to the point where my cueball control were pro-level, the extra 'feel' of a £300+ one piece John Parris cue (or similar) would become apparent.
With such an option available at £60, if all you care about is how the cue enables you to play, I don't think spending up to £150 is worth it. That being said, if you have the disposable income to treat yourself to something you find more aesthetically pleasing, then go for it!
My recommendations would be; if jointed then get a 3/4 and not a 1/2 cue, and avoid ones with varnish coatings as they can get sticky and disrupt cueing if there's any moisture or dirt.
This one on Woods Cues looks great value and would be my recommendation; https://www.woodscues.com/collections/3-4-snooker-cues/products/copy-of-3-4-handmade-ash-snooker-pool-cue-1114?variant=40179861959
I watch ITV4 here.
My VPN (ExpressVPN) costs $120/yr CAD, and Eurosport costs $70/yr CAD. The VPN also allows me access to US restricted content, as well as restricted content virtually anywhere else in the world.
From my experience - Eurosport and ExpressVPN have both been excellent. I work from home in front of a computer, and so I have stuff streaming on another monitor pretty much all day. So for me the cost of $15-$16/month is more than justified.
LOL, very good.
Don't know how you shot this but if its on an Android phone then you can use VidTrim to rotate the video
I like video games and there is a long time that I've looking for a snooker video game but without success.
That's my only one: Pro snooker 2017 Is possible play online.
Are you sure snooker isn't broadcast on US DAZN? Quick Google suggests they've had it in the past (but you have to watch live).
Other option is a VPN and watching on the BBC. They are good at blocking them but ExpressVPN works.
It is a peradon q-rite device
although i would say it was easy enough to replicate and hence plenty of others had manufacture it.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/PERADON-Q-RITE-REST-HEAD-EXTENSION/dp/B0168BMKGG
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/baulk
It's the same word; baulk and balk are both acceptable spellings for all of the usages you listed. But if baulk is the more common British spelling (even though that link lists balk for the billiards definition) I might go with that in the future.
That semi was stressful even without a bet :) ... The odds are not in my favour. Qualifying rounds are a little bit random. Anything can happen.
Did you put a bet this year or not yet?
If you are interested, you can see all my bets here: https://airtable.com/shrbpysbNZYuSG8vt
This will update almost real time ... depends if I watch the game or not
I had the same problem as you when I first tried. Then tried again following John Parrots guide here
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cndvCRNwL6o
The main things to think about. Use a tip slightly larger than the end of your cue as its so difficult to set it dead centre. Get rid of all the old glue from your cue, use a Stanley blade and sandpaper. Sandpaper the bottom of the new tip.
I use this glue but I'm sure most superglue would be fine
Hold the tip firmly on your cue for a couple of minutes pressing down before you try to trim / shape
Not ideal, but you could potentially repurpose a cheap rubber doorstop like this. They are about £2 from Amazon, ScrewFix, B&Q etc. You would need to find an appropriate bolt, but again, that would be cheap.

Failing that, bite the bullet, buy a few and pay the shipping costs.
I use a VPN (Nord) to watch BBC using the BBC iPlayer WWW Kodi plugin on an old Android 6 box. Or using a web browser on my computer with same VPN. It would probably work using the BBC iPlayer App from APKMirror on a newer TV Box but mine is so old it won't install. Kodi works well however so it's a good workaround to use the BBC plugin with Kodi. It's pretty good with 720p and 50FPS but you need to check NordVPNs website for a list of working BBC servers and manually connect to one of those, and even then some of them may not work. There's always some that do work however. Other VPNs I've tried such as Windscribe and Private Internet Access don't play nicely with BBC.
FetchTV used to have Eurosport after they left Foxtel but I just did a quick search and it's no longer available, looks like it might be VPN or nothing.
Norwegian here. I've been through exactly the same thing in the last couple of weeks.
I use NordVPN to access the BBC iPlayer, and I signed up for the Eurosport Player (while not on VPN, otherwise you might have payment difficulties). On Eurosport, you can choose the commentary language, you just have to find the right stream. (I hate Norwegian commentary. Ugh!)
Where's Gould v Maguire on BBC? I can only find their stream of Williams-Bingham.
EDIT: Found it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p08lc00l/snooker-world-championship-2020-live-maguire-v-gould-table-one
Do you mean console or mobile? There used to be one on PS3 I played many years ago, spent many an hour. I'd like today's console versions are much better.
On mobile I like to play this one . It's okay... not 100% with all the rules etc, but the mechanic of the game play I pretty good and the challenges are generally fun.
This indicates that foreigners are not allowed to use iPlayer. So I'm a bit wary giving them my personal data and then using it unauthorized. What a pity! Guess Eurosport Player it is. They at least allow me to pay.
https://www.amazon.com/Pleasures-Small-Motions-Mastering-Billiards/dp/1585745391
it's technically about pool, but you can literally replace all of the pool terms/references 1:1 with snooker terms/references and it'll be exactly as useful
great book
Hey, I got it working. You need a VPN connecting to one of the countries that's not on the list and not UK/Ireland. I connected to Argentina and logged back in. Those snooker qualifiers disappeared and it was all US Open. I use NordVPN which is also excellent for BBC iPlayer when the snooker worlds are on. 3 or 4 year plan, definitely worth it. Good luck! :)
I use a VPN called Ivacy and I paid around $80 for a 5yr subscription. This year connecting to the bbc was fairly easy but at one point I couldn't connect and I emailed Ivacy and they sent me a step by step way to connect which worked and a link that worked for another time I couldn't connect. I'm in California and is the only way I can avoid YouTube videos from Eurosport and their horrendous commentators.
I've found out that iPlayer is blocking at least some VPN providers/endpoints, most of the time I get a no-go fuck-off notice when trying to use iPlayer. I'm using Mullvad VPN so maybe it's just them.
But it's not a given that it'll work.
If you can find a copy of this it will help a lot.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Snooker-Players-Guide-English-Billiards/dp/0956405401
I've had it forever but only started applying the lessons before the pandemic. I was determined to make a proper break like billiards player. Sadly, I haven't been on a snooker table in almost a year. And billiards isn't as fun on my pool table.
Looks decent for the price!
I got a cue from Amazon for a similar price after my last one got damaged and I love it, though it was LP Cues rather than CUESOUL and it seems they're no longer available to buy; https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FDKOG5C
Another, probably better option on a similar budget would be Woods Cues; https://www.woodscues.com/collections/3-4-joint-snooker-cues
This link is for 3/4 jointed cues, and as you can see, there's loads of choices including cue length/weight etc. You can also choose which case you want with some of them. My dad has one of these and it's great quality.
anyway have a link for the robbo/hawkins match? I'm using ExpressVPN with a UK IP but the play button doesn't show up on the BBC website, so I'm guessing they are blocking me anyway (even though I can use the iPlayer and watch all the snooker videos on their website). Just no play button.
There are 3 main options for dealing with the sticky hand issue - wash your hands - talcum powder - wear a glove If a player has sticky hands it ultimately because of two reasons: they’re hands are sweaty or they’re dirty. The easiest and cheapest way to solve both of those problems is to wash your hands. This should keep your hands dry for at least a couple of hours. So if you know this is a problem you have, wash your hands before your match and you should be fine. The second option is to use talcum powder. This takes away all the moisture from your hands and should make the cue stick glide smoothly over your bridge hand immediately. It does have a couple of drawbacks though. The first is that it can get chalk on the table. This isn’t great for the cloth and can cause skids if too much talcum powder gets rubbed from your hands to the table. The other drawback is you may have to apply a couple of times a game which can be a distraction while you’re playing. The last option which more and more pros are doing is to use a glove. They’re relatively inexpensive (you can find them for 5 dollars if you want) and if you have one on you never have to worry about sweaty hands again. I started using a glove recently and I enjoy it. It gives me a consistent feel for the cue stick every time I pick it up and that feeling won’t change during a game, regardless of how nervous I am. Ultimately it comes down to personal preference and what you like best. Try out each solution and figure out what works best for your playing style. Roaming billiards gloves sale on Amazon
Thanks again for the input, how about the Amazon one? (Weichster 3/4 Snooker Cue Handmade Ash Walnut Wood Pool Cue Case Extension Set https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07D4GNM4M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_nlEjEb9DPKGBD)
I have, on the Juxing website. Both on iPad, iPhone, and PC I've tried. I use NordVPN, which doesn't have a server in China, and I'm not sure of any free VPN's who do. I'm not sure what else to try, but I'll take a look at zhibo and see if that's any good
That doesn't surprise me, I imagine their server load is high meeting demand from the UK alone and imagine it would rocket if they made their services available world wide.
My guess is that they use a blacklist of known VPN exit nodes which they then block, so you could try a different provider. Obviously not a great solution for yourself if you already have a VPN subscription but perhaps something /u/LehmannDaHero could consider whilst trying this out.
For what its worth I was using SlickVPN on 2015-11-28 / 2015-11-29 to watch the UK Championships.
I'm in the states as well. For me, the best way is to use a VPN client which will allow you to watch the tournament right on the BBC website.
I'm not familiar with what works best for PC's, but for a Mac I like Netshade.
There are other threads in /r/snooker that talk about other solutions including a popular Chrome VPN plugin.
If you are a UK redditor, you can watch via the BBC website. This covers most of the action, usually with the choice of which table you'd like to watch in the earlier rounds.
If you aren't in the UK, maybe something like TunnelBear is your best option to connect to the BBC website.
Streams will run most days from 1230GMT. I hope you can tune in today because there are two cracking matches lined up. On the one table you've got Ronnie O'Sullivan v. Judd Trump (could prove to be epic), and on the other you have Ding Junhui v. Matthew Stevens (of course I'm rooting for my fellow countryman Stevens).
I hope TunnelBear works for you, or you can find an alternative source. Happy watching :)
The Mark Richard's cue set, although China made, is really impressive for the price IMHO. I've seen a lot of cues and I recommend it to anyone as their first snooker cue.
The one thing I highly recommend is changing the tip when you receive it. Which I don't think is a big deal. All players should know/learn how to do it anyway.
Edit: Regardless of what you purchase. Make sure you buy a 3/4 joint cue. Very important for those starting out with a background in American pool. A 50/50 and a 3/4 feel very different, don't fall for the BCE 50/50 snooker cues.
The best snooker game I think I've ever played is actually on mobile! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.friendlymonster.snooker&hl=en_GB
It's only a top-down 2D game, but I think it makes up for that with the realistic physics
Snooker Stars is very good, it has some grind to get on top tables but it has a very nice single player challenge and you can play online or against friends
I actually had the 2nd cue as my first cue and I would not recommend it! It gets very sticky as does not feel nice in my opinion.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008Z82MZA/ref=twister_B00FE7M9G2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I'd recommend something like this, with a case and extensions for only £60 that's a really good deal!
Check this out, i doubt it was reduced from that price but i won this and its fantastic, hasn't failed me yet
