While just about no one else on this subreddit will agree with me, the fact that SOE never came out and said that SWG was to be considered freeware, it is still, technically speaking, illegal to download it if you do not already own a copy of it.

After extracting each RAR file, just use a program like the open source WinCDEmu to mount each disk in order.
If you need any help with this feel free to message me.
Also a quick side note: Technically you ARE supposed to own a copy of SWG to be able to play on SWGEmu's servers so go out and buy a copy if you can! Be warned if you post in this thread with the same name as you use to login to SWGEmu or their forums, you might run the risk of having your account banned. Those guys are ultra snoops sometimes.
That being said there is no way for them to detect if you have used these CD's or not so tread lightly and have fun.

There is no such thing as abandonware. It's a made-up term that internet pirates created as an excuse to download games that are no longer officially supported by their developers. Truth of the matter is unless the game studio declares its product to be public domain, it's illegal to download it without having already purchased it.
It also specifically states in the SWGEmu rules that a legitimate copy of the game is required to play. You can read this here: http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24
This subreddit is not run by anyone actually associated with the SWGEmu project.
Every time this question pops up, I always post this same thing and it always gets downvoted. Just because you disagree with the law doesn't give you permission to ignore it. SWGEmu is not free.
Edit for reasoning: The reason you must own a legitimate copy of the client is so that you have legal rights to the content contained on the CDs. It's how the whole project avoids being sued. If every player has non-commercial rights to all of the assets contained on the original CDs, it's not illegal for them to play a game on someone else's server using those assets.
PlaneShift has been volunteer created since 2002. I remember playing the barebones version of it in 2003 when there wasn't even combat while looking for free MMO's that weren't Runescape. Were slim pickin's back in those days.
You absolutely do not need a key or even original CD's.
SWG is abandonware, which means that the client can be shared freely.
Here is my own personal backup of the SWG ISO's. https://www.mediafire.com/#camsksac4osia
If you need any help installing please don't hesitate to ask!
Abandonware has nothing to do with copyright. It's still illegal to download abandonware unless a company comes out and says it's in Public Domain, which SWG is not.
If it is, show me a link and I'll retract everything I've posted.
I suggest you read this: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/what-is-abandonware-and-is-it-legal/
This system was a massive labor of love. The amount of effort that went into making it was astonishing. I started it for my Hondo project back in 2017, because I really liked Beast Master and I felt that Bio-Engineer was a little boring by comparison. But, after a couple months of working on it, I got overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work it took to add existing creatures as new pets, let alone the work involved with adding new pets. We're talking hundreds of file edits/creations/etc. So I just stopped working on it; just didn't seem worth it to continue.
Fast forward to around the launch of Tarkin's Revenge in 2019, I was chatting with Liakhara about it and she really liked the concept, being very into Creature Handler and BE herself. So when she had time, she took the concept and completely rewrote it and made it waaay the hell better than I ever could. Seriously, it's awesome. Thank you so much, Liakhara, for not only doing what I just couldn't get done, but for being you and going completely overboard with amazingness. You rock! Heck, I think Blixtev himself would be proud of you.
It's a detailed, unique, and fun system to play with. As a person who liked BM crafting in the NGE, but prefers the Pre-Cu game play, I could not be more pleased with this system. So many new pets, so many options, so little time! :)
I know you said current games but I recently started following Crowfall which is in development.
A few SWG devs are involved with the project. Raph Koster (who was SWG creative director) is a consultant.
An interesting interview with one of the game developers talks about how crafting in the MMO scene has become an afterthought and Crowfall is hoping to change that by making it a standalone class again. It remains to be seen if that will happen but at least it seems to be the goal.
