Lived at UMass for 3.5 years. Played PC games all the time. Had a few different adapters, one rose above them all.

This sucker worked FLAWLESSLY! Still using it today with no problems.
I believe both are accepted, but I've only seen people use their UCards. Much easier unless you're a quarters person. In *most* dorms (but not all) the Speed Queen app (Android/iOS) shows the live status of the washers and dryers as well. Unfortunately my dorm (Dickinson) was one of the excluded bunch so I never got to see it working but if it works it seems super helpful for planning.
The best way to teach yourself anything is by just making random projects that you are passionate about AND releasing them to users so they can motivate you to keep working hard on it. When I released my first app after teaching myself iOS, having 20k users giving me feedback everyday made me work so hard to make the app even better and thus made me learn so much! So keep going at it. And remember, when in doubt: https://lifehacker.com/5934647/fuck-it-ship-it
I know Prof. Bianconi gets a bad rap (Her rating on RateMyProfessor is a mere 1.7.); but, at least, from what I've heard, she keeps her assignments to a minimal. It's like 3 exams, the lab section and just the final that make the grading in her version of Chemistry 111. Each worth 20%, with the tests all being multiple choice with a pyramid take home.
The point I'm trying to make is she doesn't assign endless amounts of homework on that broken website named Owl. Meanwhile, when I took Chem 111 with Prof. Tyson... oh, boy; there was literally over 2,000 individual questions I had to do over the course of the semester, some of which had their own separate parts...
Read some info on Usenet a while back (didn't seem to be any decent intel on the googlenets) that suggested that the storm drain tunnels are accessible in a few places (manhole in the parking garage basement is apparently a good one, me and some friends scoped it out, found the manhole in question, but didn't venture inside).
As for steam tunnels, I've heard a few rumors about various entrances (references to a "house at the bottom of the Northeast quad" with a basement entrance - if anyone knows what that's referring to), I'd love to find an accessible one.
edit: relevant links on usenet for those interested: here's some info, as well as some more here
It's crazy seeing posts from 1994, talking about crazy hijinks from as far back as 1979. College kids always have the same motivations apparently.
also!: Today I saw a maintenance worker climbing down into the manhole labeled "telephone" out front of Brett dorm (lower central) seemingly to run some cables. There was clearly a ladder and presumably enough space to walk in the tunnel proper - if anyone knows of an inconspicuous entrance then that could possibly be a fun adventure.
It is more probable than not that Claire will be your professor. Class is pretty easy, if you like this kind of stuff. You'll have to study a pretty good amount, and do work like food logs and stuff that take a decent amount of time. Discussion is pretty interesting and helpful.
This was my experience as well. Bruce really hammers it all out pretty clearly, and if you're bringing Ideas in with you, you'll be well off.
It was pretty much just those 3 assignments. I think you could expand the 5 pager Script into your final 20 pager if you wanted to continue developing that. Lots of feedback from your classmates every time you write something.
I came out realizing this wasn't what I wanted to do at all, having gone in with no ideas to start. Just used it to do the Film Certificate. Did every assignment within two days of the due date and it all turned out okay (B).
The Screenwriter's Bible (By David Trottier) was the textbook that was used and I found that to be a pretty good resource for all questions I had. Celtx was suggested for use and was very user friendly.
I lived in Baker and Cance. This fan 10/10 recommend got me through freshman and sophomore year. Even the pandemic quarantine at my house. Lasko Wind Machine 20 In. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y1USA84/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_AYVQR2JGKAD3E21QRQH1
I buy 1-2 of these per year, I’m not sure why but I like that they’re thinner than is typical.
220 - do all your projects early and don't cheat. this class will teach you how to really "program". start the programs early and you will be fine.
250 - i recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/How-Prove-It-Structured-Approach/dp/0521675995
this book is pretty good when combined with barrington's "teaching" style. this book doesn't have all the topics covered, but if you find yourself struggling to understand concepts i recommend ordering this book (or find a PDF online of it) and just work through every practice problem you can. answers for a bunch are in the back. i think this book does a better job explaining conceptually what everything means in the class.
good luck!
You probably won't actually need one, and if it ever comes time that you need one, you can just buy an external one off Amazon for not that much anyways. Or get familiar with magicDisk.
in case you're curious, here's last weeks menu
Yeah, home style food is generally hard to offer at the dining commons when they're aiming for healthy stuff.
I do agree when they offer new twists on 'classics' that they should try to have the classic option available. They already do that with macaroni and cheese.

It’s surprisingly helpful and has some great life tips.
Go join something - anything - and hit the gym. It’s a place where you’ll see regulars who can become friends and also exercising helps depression.
Thanks for the info! Kinda want to fit 2 monitors and use the extra space from this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KPFKW1J/ref=crt_ewc_title_srh_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AASKJ1SSUGDDI
Thoughts?
I thought it made more sense to buy an ad this time than repost on the subreddit again:
https://www.reddit.com/r/umass/comments/9gyjfv/couldnt_find_the_unichusetts_of_massaversity/
Plus I was kinda interested to see what the metrics are. TL;DR: organic posts are always better. At least only after a few days in.
You should check out ads.reddit.com some time and see what you can configure in terms of targeting ads. It's really creepy. Facebook is even more granular in regards to who you can advertise to. Even though I buy ads sometimes, I use and highly recommend ad blockers. Ublock origin for pc & android (for firefox), adguard for iOS. You can use the Reddit Is Fun app and ads are not displayed as well.
i highly recommend a sploofy for the smoke buddy. and tbh i wouldn’t recommend covering your smoke detector or anything cuz ur shit will get ruined if it goes off and starts letting out water everywhere. just get a sploofy, have windows open and a good fan, smell proof bag or box (i recommend this one) and don’t be careless. you’ll be okay! <3
With bootcamp and a high-end Macbook Pro gaming isn't really an issue anymore. Of course, it is more expensive. In fact, Mashable recently included the 15" Macbook Pro Retina on it's top 8 Gaming Laptops list: http://mashable.com/2014/01/09/best-gaming-laptops/#gallery/best-laptops-for-gaming/52ce8265b589e42b9c0009fa
If there gen ed classes, you might want to consider taking one of the classes over Jan break at one of the community college which should be cheaper than it remotely at UMass. You could take the winter break off from classes all together, and then start your spring semester strong. If your worried that failing 2 classes mean your behind overall, don't even stress over it. Theres defiantly ways to make them up. One way is when your looking to fulfill your Gen Eds, if you pick certain courses they will satisfy 2 requirements. A few examples would be that World History would be a HSDG and it will cover your Historical, and your World Diversity requirement, Intro Sociology is a DUSB, and that can be done with other courses. When your in Spire and your searching for a class, if you go down to the drop down menu thats called Get Ed Categories, click on that and you can look for any or the categories that fulfill 2 requirements, so HSDU, HSDG, DUSB, DGHS, SBDG, SBDU, ALDG, ALDU, etc.... just look for the doubled up letters.
I would also suggest looking up reviews on professors as you choose classes. My kids have found it helpful to avoid the ones that have bad reviews. The best place to read reviews on them is Rate My Professors.
Auditions for the musical, Children of Eden, are the first weekend and play auditions, Almost Maine, are the second weekend.
Non-theatre department students can audition for department shows.
Sorry I'm so bad with computers. It says it works with HP laptops, it's one of these
There is always a role to play at a hackathon. The event is going to be 37 hours brainstorming, coding, designing, and making a project. Bringing your experiences to the table to make the idea better and more feasible is something you can do. Adding an entrepreneur mindset is another thing you can too in the project.
Now lets get away from what you can do but what you can learn. There will be many tech companies there focused solely on teaching you how to use their products. From Amazon Web Services to Google Go there will be ample amount of resources and mentors there that can assist you in learning. Being helpful to your team can be simply giving your input and learning how to make a website in 24-36 hours.
Essentially, do not feel scared off that you do not have technical experience because the point of going is to learn and to enjoy the experience.
If you have any other questions feel free to message me, as well I can send you tutorials if you are interested in learning how program or use an API before HackUMass V.

The rechargeable version of this tiny fan is SO good! We had one at my work and it was so good I had to get my own. 3 different modes and can hold it’s charge (USB charger) for such a long time! https://www.amazon.com/Aluan-Operation-Portable-Adjustable-360°Rotatable/dp/B07QXJ51YT/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=aluan+desk+fan&qid=1628303967&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFITVVVSEJDOEhERlomZW5j...
This adapter has been working well for me after setting the adapter settings in Windows to use 5G. Although you could be screwed by your dorm room.
Definitely posters as others have said, also framed posters or art or pictures (class the place up, I got a good deal on a framed piece from allposters maybe you could too?)
I would say ditch the xmas lights bc idk I think they suck- instead get this strand of lightbulbs or something like this, they sell them at target and also sell replacement bulbs if you break one. To even upgrade it further buy one of those remote control outlets (<$20) and viola you have a light switch and some classy lights.
Final things I’d recommend are a small carpet (amazon, Target, et cetera) and a nice patterned blanket for the end of your bed (bonus points: people that sleep over on the floor or something get to use a blankie)
Oh also a pothos or moth orchid work for low maintenance but beautiful greenery for your room
Ah, that sucks.
I know UMass has a really solid CS program so IMO don't transfer out just because the WiFi for your first year is shitty, I'm pretty sure it gets better (at least it did in my case). Been on eduroam like 95% of the time I've been here and only had a minor lag-spike once.
I definitely agree they should add ethernet ports back though, but I remember reading up that it would be really difficult for one reason or another.
(Also I got recommended this adapter and its been working pretty well: link)
Speedtest results: 141Mbps Download and 56Mbps Upload link
I just checked online and it looks like this one has everything, which is weird cause I have this one and it only goes to Taylor Series.
Which adapter do you use? I've seen it happen with both cards and USB adapters. This adapter and its variants work perfectly from what I've seen.
My brother had a similar issue. He bought the cheap $20 TPLink wifi card for his newly built desktop. He kept getting microlag in all his games. He then switched to the ASUS PCE-AC56 wifi card and boom everything is fixed, no lag, no issues with internet. Good luck.
Hey, I had the same issue as you Sophomore year. I thought it was a network issue as well, but it turned out to be my wireless card. Do you happen to have this card or a similar one? There seems to be something up with certain cards on the UMass networks, since I had issues with that card, and two other wireless USB adapters, but I found this adapter works well on campus.
Who knows why this is happening, but the only solution I've found in 2.5 years is just to get an adapter you know doesn't have the issue.
This GTX 1070 claims to be available for one day pickup. https://umass.amazon.com/MSI-GeForce-GTX-1070-ARMOR/dp/B01GXOX2BU/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1470879035&sr=1-1&campus=CAMPUS_UMA&keywords=gtx+1070&rpsc=10032263011&refinements=p_94%3A10032263011
I use TP Link's N900 Wireless Adapter (Model No. TL-WDN4800).
Link to it on amazon, also note that it is PrimeCampus
If you haven't heard yet, Amazon is directly affiliated with UMass and you can finds details about it at umass.amazon.com.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.
Grrr. If i buy a 2,000 foot ethernet cable, can you run it to northeast for me? I got one of these guys pointing directly at the router (it's in my room). Signal still is awful, since it ques your packets.
