I've used Subsonic for a few years now, it'll do just want you want. The software is free. If you want to use Apps along with it for your devices (Android, iOS, Windows, Windows Phone, etc) it's $1 a month (you can pay monthly, yearly, or lifetime for $99).
I think it works great, worth checking out.
Since everyone is suggesting Metro apps, here's a reddit client for the desktop, like you asked: Redditr I tried it and it's pretty good. It's cross-platform and has a lot of features. However, I can't help but ask why not use a web browser instead? It's the most complete reddit experience you can get.
Well, I would suggest Ditto
I have added some sticky items on it and assigned hotkeys to it. Since I have to use my work email, id and other things very frequently every day, this is really a life saver.
Since this is a clipboard manager, it has many other features as well.
I haven't found anything good and free in the store.
The best free video editors I have used are Blender 2.81 or shotcut.
Shotcut is free and open source. You can get it from the store but it is not free. The cost is essentially a donation to the developers because it is the same as if you download it except that it automatically updates.
Veeam Backup & Recovery Community Edition is what you’re looking for. You can back up your entire machine or file level backup. They have a rescue disk option that will allow you to restore a full backup in case of a main drive failure.
I don't have a game pass app installed, the pass was purchased through the Windows Store (<strong>https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/CFQ7TTC0KGQ8</strong>) and I've been installing all my games via the store itself.
The game is your classical word search game with a twist. You can build up the words by connecting the letters in the grid horizontally or vertically, from any direction. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Word Search Master
Like u/woze already said. Check out the new Microsoft PowerToys. There's a tool in there call fancyzones. it's pretty nice. I haven't used it on multiple physical displays, but I like that it lets me create unique zones for each virtual desktop.
If you are interested in taking apps from the App store and running them on Win7... might be possible with some odd hacking, but I'm not aware of anyone doing it. Why? Its much easier to just upgrade to Win8.1. If you really hate Win8 UI there are several things to make it behave like Win7. You'd get the apps from the MS store, plus the Win7 UI you like.
If you are a developer or an html5 guy, there are a couple of ways to make html5 apps into "desktop apps". I haven't used any of them, and a lot of them are in 'beta' or whatever... but I suppose it would be possible.
node.js seems to have something some people seem to like. Also there's this:
I have used PhoneGap to make html5 apps into mobile apps. Its a little sluggish, but seems to work well for simple stuff.
I wrote one... :)
Specifically for this use case.
It supports pagemarks to keep track of your reading. Huge PDFs, is free but hook a brother up with the $4.99 version so I can keep building new versions of it ;)
Read the discussion thread. Someone else jumped the gun, published it under their own name and pissed donho off. He threw a hissy fit and has been radio silence ever since.
The other guy (jakevis) has since renamed it to "(unofficial) NotePad++" and it is still on the Microsoft Store. As posted on the Notepad++ discussion thread, he is still keen to collaborate and make it official, but donho has been silent on it.
It would be up to Hangouts, or some kind of extension to push notifications out to pushbullet.
Just remember that pushbullet is a service, like Skype, Slack or even Twitter with this just being a good client.
There are sites like https://zapier.com that can bridge different apps like pushbullet and slack.
