So can you boot into the zorin live cd or this whole mess are showing when you try to boot ? instead of rufus, I may suggest you to use ventoy, https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html
This one is much easy to use and also support a lost of distro, including window as well(I haven't test with 11 but 10 is fine)
Even though comments says you can try the beta. I don’t recommend it nowadays in my personal experience it was not usable it was glitching quiet a lot.
But if you want to install the beta you don’t need to wipe the current zorin os. You just have to create a bootable usb. And use it
It's a paid product though. Are you asking people to help to pirate it?
Just download the free Core version. It's good enough on its own. It can be downloaded here:
I've got a new Gateway 11" netbook (Walmart brought the brand back) and it's got terrible wifi hardware even though it was made 7 months ago. I went with a Panda PAU06, and it's got plug and play support with Zorin (and pretty much any other Linux distro) but it is only a 2.4GHz dongle.
The ProtonVPN Linux app has less functiionality than the Windows one. Is it a bad idea to run the Windows version of the ProtonVPN app via Wine? Does that compromise the effectiveness of the VPN at all?
>Do not use Nord man, use Windscribe, it's free and it's way easier to install.
I've heard good things about Winscribe, but it is not free. Also, I would never trust a free VPN unless I knew exactly who was behind it. Most free VPNs make their money by somehow spying on you (e.g. selling your data).
The only free VPNs that you should ever trust are the ones managed by a privacy advocacy organization. The only ones I know are Calyx VPN and Riseup VPN. They are slow compared to their commercial counterparts. VPNs is one of those things where you do want to pay money.
What happens when you try to install the .deb package?
If you follow the terminal instructions on the NordVPN website you can post the output here and we can have a look.
Similarly for VLC. Can you explain more precisely what difficulties you ran into? Did the install fail? Or did it install but it doesn't work correctly?
I'm sure we can figure this out, but we need to see what you saw before we can begin to guess what the problem is.
Watch this YouTube video:
You have to use the terminal to do all the steps. In that YouTube video, the first command is
sudo dpkg -i
You can skip that command. This is the command that you ran when you clicked install and the green button turned red. But apparently you have to run other commands to finish the install, and even then NordVPN still won't give you a GUI.
I use Windscribe, way easier to install.
I got this for $7, now $5.94. Plug and play. Works great. Good range. 2.4GHz only tho. After a certain distance, it doesn't really matter.

Here is a comprehensive article on recovering an Ubuntu based installation (of which Zorin is) maybe this can give you what you need
https://snapcraft.io/blog/should-you-ever-reinstall-your-linux-box-if-so-how
Maybe for some apps...just click the executable and Zorin should walk you through it.
Why is the better question? If you just want to use Windows programs, might as well use Linux. Try https://alternativeto.net/ to find programs that do the same thing but are made for Linux. If that fails, I'd suggest a Windows Virtual Machine (if your hardware can handle it) to run the 1 or 2 programs you may not find alternatives. As a last resort use the built in functionality (aka WINE).
Not required if it looks like this: https://www.startpage.com/av/proxy-image?piurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.maketecheasier.com%2Fassets%2Fuploads%2F2019%2F03%2Fmint-recovery-menu.jpg&sp=1643814661Td4368f0f47995b2fc80c983488fffa2a6ff7505f2d213122498bfa72668b4766
The root option is visible, select it. You'll reach the terminal. there undo everything
One thing you could do is use a tool Macrium Reflect Free (scroll to Backup at Home) to create a complete backup of your hard drive, it creates an image file that you simply save on another hard drive. Then create a "rescue media" which is a usb stick that you can boot from to restore the image which brings everything back to where it was.
Now you can wipe and install Zorin and the apps, check them out for a few days to see if they work for you. If not, boot from the usb stick and restore the image file to get back to Windows as you left it.
I downloaded/onstalled variety, "Variety An automatic wallpaper changer, downloader and manager. http://peterlevi.com/variety Copyright (c) 2012-2019, Peter Levi, James Lu & Variety contributors This program comes with absolutely no warranty. See the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later for details." so I don't know which wallpaper your talking about.
What tool did you use to make the Windows USB Install drive? Maybe try a different tool? I used the WoeUSB tool and it worked when I went to install Windows on an old machine.
You need to make sure any hardware you buy states it works with Linux. Just like you can't just buy random things and use them on Mac and/or Windows the same holds true here.
I have this one, and once you install the driver it works fine.
Light gaming. I use a pretty good app called Lutris. https://lutris.net/
It’s a program that runs a compatibility layer called WINE. You don’t necessarily need it, but for people who just want to install a game and go, it’s good because it uses installation scripts from Lutris’ website to help you install what is needed to play a game that was originally made for Windows. Not all Windows games work.
There are a few that are made to work natively on Linux, but don’t expect many huge titles like Grand Theft Auto V or Red Dead Redemption II. I play Graveyard Keeper, Two Point Hospital, and War Thunder are all native for example. You can visit the Steam website and download the installation package for Steam, OR alternatively you can find Steam in the App Store.
That's what I'm using now since my new laptop doesn't have an Ethernet just Wifi.
Here's the one I'm using
Yes, try the "Tweaks" tool for GNOME and you should see a lot of extension options.
I have a top bar and floating dock on my 15.3, so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible on 16 beta.
try flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo and then restart your computer this command comes directly from flathub.org under the ubuntu install if you want to reference it.
Yes, according to the official how to article you do.
https://zorinos.com/ultimate/ here is a list of major differences. You won’t be able to use Zorin Connect with an android phone. Lack of customer support, too. But the Linux community can help and that’s what it’s all about in the first place. Wait until you try WM’s which are even snappier, albeit bit more advanced to learn to use). That’s another subject to buff up on when you have some time. When it comes to packages you can install most anything that works on Zorin or Ubuntu/Debian. You may need the requisite dependant packages. Something to read up on as well, for anything that doesn’t immediately install.
Yes sounds like the usb drive wasn't flashed correctly or got corrupted. Maybe even the iso you have been using was corrupted... First, I recommend checking the hash of the iso file you downloaded against the ones listed here (click on 'View SHA256 Checksums') If that doesn't line up, download again and recheck. Then flash the usb again using balena etcher.
Apps pre-installed in Zorin OS Education
Apps pre-installed in Zorin OS Ultimate
The Education version is free while the Ultimate version is a one-time payment of $39
IMO Zorin OS Core would work just as well for day-to-day tasks (ie:-typing documents, browsing the web) out of the box
The Education is the Core version with the Education apps I linked above installed
The Ultimate Edition has more layouts, more pre installed apps and games and installation support in case you need help (the installation of Zorin OS is easy so don't worry about that)
The Core version has the LibreOffice suite, Firefox and other basic apps installed
Core = Only Basic apps
Education = Core+Education apps and games
Ultimate = Core+A lot of apps and games installed (most of which you wouldn't need)
>So, "Go somewhere else to ask"? Very helpful.
u/Blue-XVI was saying that you paid for the support, so why not get help from the experts that will probably be able to solve the problem faster. I found that reply rather helpful as you may have not known that you have support with a Zorin OS team member.
I used typing master. But Linux version of typing master is not available.
Wine is a software that make windows software runs on Linux. And it is not a emulator . It just make a compatibility layer
Here is help from Zorin is how to use wine
https://zorinos.com/help/install-apps/#windows-apps
Here is simple video explaining how to use wine
If you're wanting to try multiple Linux distros, I highly recommend using an external drive with Ventoy.
https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html
I have an external SSD drive that runs super fast and you can boot up in multiple Linux distros and try them out to see how they would perform on your hardware.
I have used VMs in the past, and still do where needed, but the performance takes a big hit.
Search the web for Windows 7 iso and download it.
Download Balena Etcher from https://www.balena.io/etcher/ and install it.
Get a USB stick, plug that into your computer.
Select the Win7 ISO file you've downloaded. Click Flash.
After Balena completes the writing, turn off your computer and restart it again and boot from USB
Start installing Windows 7
Balena Etcher Pro. it is well worth the money. you than can set up kind of a a process with some friends or something. passing the computer along until every step to install is set. then just wait. to install 50, you will need three racks though.
Maybe reformat the flash drive and go with Linux Mint instead of Zorin.
Try installing the latest version with this: https://www.balena.io/etcher/
Zorin looks nice but it's pretty buggy and may ruin your first time Linux experience. I'm personally thinking of returning to Mint myself. Zorin is really beautiful to look at but breaks a lot when waking up from sleep mode. Mint also has more users and thus more support.
So found out what's the issue, and as I suspected it's Amazon way of putting the middle finger to Linux users:
They state that playing in a Linux is possible but limited to SD quality: https://www.primevideo.com/help/ref=atv_hp_nd_cnt?nodeId=GUX9FYHU5D8LC9EJ
It seems to be something quite recent as there is still very few reports on this.
I have also tried changing the agent user of the browser to all different combinations (Firefox, Chrome, Edge, ...; Windows, Mac OS, ...) as was suggested in some post in the past, but it ends up whether breaking the player or warning you you can only play at SD.
As of now the only solution I found is, well... installing VirtualBox, run Windows on it and play through it. It's ridiculous to have to do this, but it's the only solution that seems to work for now. If someone is also forced to go this way i'd suggest to install Tiny7 (Windows 7 light image), download externally the Chrome executable and import it to the Windows VM.
If someone brings out more ideas on how we could workaround this in a better way it would be appreciated.
You will probably get the best experience with overGrive. Instruction links are at the bottom of the website I linked, and you can use the Ubuntu option to get it installed.

I am using overgrive for that. Look: https://www.thefanclub.co.za/overgrive
Licenses start at 5$ if I remember correctly.
Overgrive has a few issues for me, mainly it sometimes forgets my credentials on my notebook. But other than that, it works like a charm.
I have a type C to type A adapter. Plugged my 8GB flash drive, and used EtchDroid to create the bootable drive. Of course you need to have the iso image on your phone. I'm not sure why but I tried two different PCs before the phone (same iso) and like you it glitches somewhere, usually in the partitioning page.
With only 4GB of old DDR2 ram I'd stick to the Lite version although Gnome (used in the Core release) will work fine if not as fast. With older systems like this it's usually best to just stick to the distro that uses the lowest resources, it makes for the best experience. I'll echo all the others on getting even a cheap SSD (I've used a few of these, they work great: Team SSD ) it'll make all the difference in the world in terms of performance.
Newb to Linux here. Zorin looks great so far.
My question is, what do I get with Ultimate that really makes it worthwhile?
Also, I currently have ESET and CyberGhost VPN. Is it worth using either of these on Zorin 16?
I’m still learning the Linux world
A combo of this: G.Skill Cherry MX red keyboard plus this: Sub Dyed Keycap set plus a set of rubber o-rings to quiet it down a bit.
No don't worry, the 1 thing that is still a major bump in the road with Linux is drivers for WiFi manufactures. In particular ones that utilize Realtek and Broadcom technology. Frankly, it will just be easier on you to get a USB WiFi adapter that has been proven to work without any extra hassle of injecting files in to the Linux kernel (those instructions you were attempting to follow).
This one lists Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 Panda 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter if you click on the blue image to the left of the product image you will see that.
I'm not an expert but I have been using linux for about 10 years and have battled wifi adapters a few times. Eventually getting most of them to work but often it took a good deal of effort.
It might be because the wifi adapter is old.
I had an older laptop and got a cheap usb wifi adapter and it worked.
Maybe consider it as a last resort.
I unfortunately don't know much about Wi-Fi drivers, but I bought this $8 Wi-Fi adapter off of Amazon and it worked out of the box without any issues (although I have to be close to the router in order for it to connect to my home Wi-Fi). I'm also running Zorin OS Core 15, so hopefully it should work for you.
