Though they aren't really that great to meet people (as in to make friends for more than one night)

> The Zurich City Council wants to introduce speed limit 30 in Zurich to a large extent. This was decided on Wednesday. The concretization and implementation of the new speed regime is to take place in stages, according to a media release. In a first step, the routes with little impact on public transport are now to be planned and defined. The implementation of the new speed regime will last at least until 2030.
Consider this a motivation for photographers to always know their rights.
That said, if your goal is to just avoid conflict (usually it's just easier), just delete the picture, change the storage card, and later retrieve it with Photorec. The whole "delete this photo" thing is totally pointless.
For the whole of Switzerland, you can use the SBB application. Link to iOS or Android / google play
There is also a ZVV transport application for Zurich, but you can simply use the SBB one.
For the rest of your questions, no clue.
There is also an App with most of this info and for helpful reminders of the collection days. Most of it has an English translation https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.erz.sauberes_zuerich
I've just arrived as well (Dutch student, here for 6 weeks), got in touch with some expats on my first night here and they told me the Langstrasse is good for going out, also Sihlfeld neighbourhood... Haven't been there myself, but will check it out. In general everyone here is very happy with how safe the city is, so I don't think there are areas you should really avoid.
I'm trying to keep it budget, so I'm planning to do some hiking in the mountains surrounding Zurich and day trips by train to Luzern and maybe Brunnen as well (so pretty!). Checking meetup.com and Facebook has also yielded fun things to do.
I don't really know anybody here yet besides my roomies, if you'd be up for some company DM me, I'm curious what you've already been up to here!
Give https://preply.com/ a try. Find the best online language tutors and learn to speak confidently.
I have no personal experience with it, but one of my coachees uses it (for German) and is very happy.
By the way, there are some hiking trails that you can do with inline skates. Maybe this is also interesting for you.
"Migros SportXX" should have that kind of stuff and is pretty much in the center:
