simple really, though it can be daunting.
here's a simple way to get started:
make an account on www.coinbase.com (KEEP YOUR LOGIN INFORMATION VERY SECURE AND HAVE IT WRITTEN OR SAVED IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS SO YOU CAN NEVER FORGET IT)
get verified/link a bank account
download a "wallet" (i use jaxx.io) (KEEP THIS LOGIN INFORMATION VERY SECURE AND HAVE IT WRITTEN OR SAVED IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS SO YOU CAN NEVER FORGET IT TOO)
buy whatever coins you want off of coinbase
transfer them to your wallet by copying your wallets "address" and submitting them under "send" on coinbase
watch your money grow
coinbase only lets you buy bitcoin, ethereum, and litecoin. to buy smaller/more obscure coins you can use a service like www.kraken.com, but i'd start with coinbase first.
Cryptocurrency is still very much in it's infancy, so a lot of the bigger coins (like bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin) are all pretty safe long term investments. They're all in limbo now too and it seems like a good time to buy. You can day trade if you want a steady supply of actual money though (buy low, sell high). But remember, only invest what you're willing to lose. Whatever you invest, pretend you lost that money and will never see it again. But chances are, you'll see a lot more later.
Seems to be legit, but I wouldn't store millions on it. Your private keys shouldn't leave your phone and you can review the source code on their site: https://jaxx.io/#openModalVS As mobile wallet to pay for some stuff I wouldn't be more afraid than on any exchange ;)
Salut,

Hey! As of this week, I am the Director of Business & Community Development for Jaxx Wallet and Decentral and I'd love to figure out what happened here. Our customer support is usually able to solve these issues like this and if you had created a Support Ticket (https://jaxx.io/support.html) when you submitted this post, it would have already been in the queue to be solved :) Never the less, if you create a ticket and PM me the number so I can monitor its progress
EDIT- Good news - EVERYONES funds are still there. This seems to be an internal ETH scanning issue. Im getting an estimate on getting this fixed.

> Currently hold only Eth on Coinbase
Bad idea my friend.
I'd recommend setting up a wallet where you control the private key.
I've heard a lot of people talking about the jaxx wallet.
If you want something a little more in your own control, I recommend setting one up on My Ether Wallet. If you set one up here, make sure you write down the password you choose to create your wallet. I don't recommend storing it on your computer or cell phone.
I'm not sure about the Jaxx wallet, but I know wallets created on My Ether Wallet can hold any ERC20 token. So GNT, ICN, MLN, etc.
Most wallets are free AFAIK. You're probably looking for either Exodus.io or Jaxx. Both are multi-wallet, meaning they support multiple coins such as ETH and Litecoin.
All wallets must implement some sort of transaction fee, as this is required by the network. However, these transaction fees do not go to the developers of the wallet.
Personally, I prefer Exodus.io over Jaxx.
Definitely do more research if you want to get into it, but the top-level is that if Bitcoin is a book, Ethereum is a computer. Bitcoin is a ledger of transactions, Ethereum is programmable with it's own languages.
As for Question 1, the short answer is not really. One of the tenants of Cryptocurrency is "be your own bank", or have control over your own money. Money on exchanges is NOT under your control. It's like money in a bank, where the money isn't really yours, it's the bank's. HOWEVER, Coinbase is insured, so there's a little more security compared to some other exchanges. However I wouldn't recommend storing a significant amount of money on it.
If you don't wanna go buy a Ledger Nano S (hardware wallets are considered the MOST SECURE way of holding crypto), you can do something simple like download a wallet app for your phone or computer. A good one for Ethereum is Jaxx. It's a decent mix between security and convenience. Again though, it's up to you which way you go, it's your money.
Jaxx available on many platforms.
https://jaxx.io/
Yes, they can use the same address. Jaxx has Shapeshift integrated so you can exchange to BTC right in Jaxx. I think BCC is coming soon to Jaxx, but not there yet.
Jaxx is like a hot wallet for daily use. For large amounts you should then consider a hard wallet like Ledger nano.
Hi. If you're looking for support please submit a ticket via support.decentral.ca
Be sure you haven't installed one of the fake apps. Always get your Jaxx Liberty wallet by downloading it from jaxx.io/downloads
For ease of use: MyMonero.
From the MyMonero support page: >MyMonero provides secure, hosted Monero accounts in order to provide easy access to funds for those that would prefer not to run a full Monero client themselves, or for those on devices with limited resources. You can access your account on any device, as long as you have access to your private login key. MyMonero never knows your private login key, and is thus unable to spend your funds without your authorisation. All of the private cryptography is done locally on your device.
Everybody should ask Jaxx wallet to add support for Monero.
Sorry to hear, gkucmierz; sounds frustrating!
I believe the QR code is a convenience - resulting addresses should still be double-checked - it's best to contact the Jaxx.io support if you believe there is a problem with it.
Er, do NOT! send funds from Coinbase to Ignition or from Ignition to Coinbase. Coinbase will close your account for that. Get an intermediate wallet. I usually use Jaxx on my phone.
Like I said down below more, even if the QT client can't sync anymore, there is a command line option to export the key using a command. Follow this guide to get the private keys.
https://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/1ycd5u/how_to_import_your_dogecoinqt_wallet_into/
Then even if the dogecoin wallet is not sync'd you can make a transaction and send it to a blockchain-lesss [no-sync] dogecoin accepted wallet like jaxx.
You can install it and make a new jaxx wallet, then enable the dogecoin from a list of coins in the top right corner menu under the wallets option in the Jaxx client. Send the coins from the multi-doge wallet to the new jaxx dogecoin wallet, jaxx will read it from there and in 3-10 mins the Dogecoin should show up in your Jaxx Dogecoin wallet and it the jaxx wallet will never need to sync up again.
Check MENU and the WALLETS tab for the WAX token.
Please be sure to update to the latest version of Jaxx, if under MENU > About, you don't have 1.3.9, you can get the latest version from here: https://jaxx.io/downloads.html. Be sure to have a copy of your 12-word Backup Phrase.
"Jaxx never holds or has access to your funds - they remain securely in your control on their respective blockchains. This means that if you back-up your Masterseed you will be easily able to recover your wallets if you lose access to the device they were on."
US citizend can't take part in ICO, but they can buy on exchange without problem. Binance is good exchange, good mobile app https://www.binance.com/?ref=10738995
Once you buy EOS on Binance move it from the exchange to the wallet. For example JAXX wallet https://jaxx.io/
Don't forget to register your EOS wallet before june because once the main chain is live they will just copy your current EOS balance on new chain.
You most probably don't need Mist unless you know exactly what you are doing. I would suggest one of the following wallets:
Those are thin clients where you don't have to download the whole blockchain.
If you haven't already bought any eth If you haven't already bought any crypto I would suggest getting coinbase and buying some in any amount you feel comfortable with.
If you have, many people like https://jaxx.io/ wallet because it has tons of coin options but it is not the most secure. Really you should do cold storage
Just use https://jaxx.io or https://exodus.io to hold your Eth and other coins/tokens. Open your wallet on phone or computer, copy receiving address and then go to Coinbase, send, paste into address form, enter amount and send. Always double check the first and last characters on your address to see that they match on both places.
Posting this as a new message as it answers multiple questions asked below.
All the Jaxx Wallet apps are perfectly safe if you get them from our official website: https://jaxx.io/support.html
You can download the Desktop versions from there and there are official links to the Play and App store from there.
There are websites out there claiming to be Jaxx (such as jqxx.io or jaxxx.io and there can be more) and some of them might be offering you the Jaxx Wallet off of their own hosting. DO NOT DOWNLOAD those as they can modify the apps and inject code that could potentially steal your funds.
We have already reached out to their hosting providers abuse departments and have informed our legal about it too.
Jaxx (https://jaxx.io) will support even more currencies/assets in the (near?) future: http://m.marketwired.com/press-release/jaxx-announces-massive-expansion-partnering-integrating-with-70-top-blockchain-projects-2217681.htm
man thanks a lot for the help. I copied/pasted the config file from this guy and it works quite smooth. During the apple boot logo there's a glitch but I can survive with that.
Audio is working perfectly
GPU seems to work fine, no glitches, just the one at the boot menu.
should I use yours? I'm afraid now to break it again.
A bounty goes to you man, thanks a lot. Let me know your bitcoin address or create one at:
Then either:
Hi there,
Sorry to hear that! Are you running our latest version (https://jaxx.io)? Also, please make sure you're in your ETH wallet to transfer the funds into Jaxx. We're working on optimizing this process!
Thanks, ERC 20 is very important and if you can add them we will difinitly suggest your wallet to our many customers for eRial.org Project.
About the code UI part for example. As you mentioned in your website:
As I mentioned before, Jaxx (Classic) will have this problem because it is discontinued and no longer functioning as it should.
Be sure to install a fresh copy of Jaxx Liberty from Jaxx.io/downloads and pair your 12 word phrase to it. If you're still having that initialisation issue after that, be sure to reach out to support with some screenshots so they look into it. https://support.decentral.ca/hc/en-us/requests/new
Your Private Keys should definitely work. You can even test them out before initiating the balance move. Simply install a brand new Jaxx Liberty Wallet on your device (get it from Jaxx.io/download) and create a new wallet. Open the MENU > Tools > Import Paper Wallet, select the asset you want to import and paste the Private Key. The app will check it and tell you if there is a balance it can import.
Hi. We're sorry to hear this happened to you but know that Jaxx Liberty never has or owns your digital assets.
Jaxx Liberty is a non custodial wallet. This means that all your digital assets are on the blockchain and can be controlled via the 12 word Backup Phrase or the Private Keys.
If anyone has your phrase or keys, they have full access to your digital assets, and since we use standard protocols, they can use that security information in any compatible crypto wallet.
If you've downloaded one of the fake Jaxx apps, they someone may have gotten access to your security information and the above applies as well.
It's important to always install Jaxx Liberty from the official source on <strong>Jaxx.io/downloads</strong>
It's also very important to not share your wallet phrase or private keys with anyone, not even Jaxx staff (mostly impersonating Jaxx staff). Do not have the wallet installed on a shared computer or phone/table that multiple persons use.
The only way to reset the password is if you know your 12 word Backup Phrase. The password is only session connected so it isn't transferred on another device you have the waller on and is not kept when fully re-installing the application on the same device.
What I would suggest first, to be sure you have the right phrase, install Jaxx Liberty on another platform or even as a Chrome extension. Get it from jaxx.io/downloads. Pair the phrase you have and see if the balances match what you see on your main wallet that has the password issue. Transaction history too, then you're good and you have the correct phrase.
The desktop native app also has some files in the user settings. Uninstalling the application is not enough. Here is a post that describes how to do a full uninstall on the computer: https://support.decentral.ca/hc/en-us/articles/115003643193-Performing-a-clean-re-install-of-Jaxx-Liberty-Desktop-Windows-and-Mac-
From what I see ZorinOS is based on Ubuntu (Linux). You will need to download the Linux version of Jaxx Liberty from https://jaxx.io/downloads (Click Desktop, choose Linux) and install it the standard way.
If you're using Jaxx Classic, it will no longer work and you need to move your 12 words Backup Phrase to Jaxx LIberty (get it from jaxx.io/downloads). Here's a guide on the migration: jaxx.io/migrate
>All what i did go to the JaxxDigital and back up my wallet
I suppose that required you to enter your wallet 12 words, didn't it? That's how they got you.
The only official domains for Jaxx are jaxx.io and decentral.ca. Nothing else should be trusted and we do not DM, it's mentioned on the top pinned post of this subreddit.
Thanks for your responses.
1) In 2018 downloaded the Jaxx wallet from jaxx.io and keep only ETH in it. When I decided to move my ETH to Kraken, the wallet asked me to update (understandably after 3 years) and I followed whatever prompts the software gave me. That updated the Jaxx wallet to Version 2.4.6. I've recently updated again to Version 2.5.0.
2) Although several people in the Reddit community have "hoped I haven't used the fake app" so far no one has explained how to tell fake from genuine. Is there a routine on the Jaxx website that can do that? A Google search re: "fake Jaxx apps" seems to show that these fake apps were around as early as 2018. Microsoft seems to have no problems being able to tell if you're using a bootlegged Windows or Office! After three years is there still no way for Jaxx users to check on apps' authenticity?
3) More to the point, as I can see the transaction on Etherscan, could someone explain if I can or cannot retrieve the ETH? If they are lost for ever, I shall chalk it up as one of life's lessons, and move on!
BE ALERT!
There are scammers that will try to steal your crypto assets and they have many methods in doing so:
- By having fake Jaxx apps on the mobile App Stores of the Chrome Store. ALWAYS get your official Jaxx Liberty application from jaxx.io/downloads and nowhere else.
- There are impersonators or Jaxx staff. WE WILL NEVER ASK for your 12-word Backup Phrase or your Private Keys. Anyone asking for those directly in comments, Chats etc. are not us!
- DO NOT enter your wallet security information on any website!
I recommend creating a Dogecoin wallet and looking for ways to buy Dogecoin. Jaxx Liberty and Atomic Wallet have options to buy cryptocurrency. Also, look for cryptocurrency ATMs. Also, you can buy small amount on /r/dogemarket (beware of scams, read the rules, buy from trusted sellers). Also, search the web.
Hi! Though there isn't a set target, it can be anytime as we've been keeping it around for more than a year now. We would strongly advise you migrate (here's a guide: Jaxx.io/migrate). What is keeping you from doing it?
If any of you are still having issues, please reach out to our support team for help: https://jaxx.io/support
There was a small hiccup on Sunday but everything should be ok now.
Hi there, you will need to pair your Backup Phrase to the new Jaxx Liberty as the latest ZEC fork (Sapling) is only supported by Jaxx Liberty. You can download it for any platform here: https://jaxx.io/downloads.html. Thanks!
Please make use you have your 12 word backup phrase saved. Then you can go to https://jaxx.io/ and download the version for your computer or device. Once installed you might need to shut down the app and restart it. Then check your "About" page to make sure the version is 1.3.18 v3.124. Once that is all done, you should be able to ShapeShift with ZEC.
I use Jaxx, it was originally made for bitcoin, but now it supports a lot of other coins, like Litecoin and Dogecoin. You should install it and make a new jaxx wallet, then enable the dogecoin from a list of coins in the top right corner menu under the wallets option in the Jaxx client. Send the coins from the multi-doge wallet to the new jaxx dogecoin wallet, you don't need to sync multi-doge, it will send the transaction into the blockchain and jaxx will read it from there and in 3-10 mins the Dogecoin should show up in your Jaxx Dogecoin wallet.
It's basically multiple types of wallets all in one and you can pick which kind of wallets you want. So like, if you get jaxx, you can have a wallet for BTC, ETH, etc. and they are all in one program. Each is a separate wallet but it is all contained in the same program which is cool. Free btw as all wallets are (AFAIK)
Personally, I use Jaxx which supports over a dozen cryptocurrencies and allows you to have access to your private keys which means it is much more secure than an exchange. Any individual exchange can be hacked and the coins can be sent anywhere while your hardware wallet (i.e. Jaxx on your phone) unless someone physically has access to your device. See website below for details.
Please be sure to be on the latest version of Jaxx (e.g. 1.3.9 at the time of this message) on all platforms. You can get the latest version here: https://jaxx.io/downloads.html if it doesn't update automatically. To check the version go to MENU> About
Please be sure to update to the latest Jaxx available. I see you're on desktop so get the latest one from https://jaxx.io/downloads.html if the one you have installed didn't update directly. That should fix this issue.
Glad to see someone got some knowledge of my guide. With that said, please read rule #3 in the sidepost. Anyhow, ZCash is a good place to start that's still very profitable. Just grab DTSM Miner and Jaxx Wallet and you're set
I haven't tried Exodus myself, but just throwing in another option: You might wanna try Jaxx. It has a web version as well as mobile apps for iOS and Android. Jaxx supports a multitude of assets. It is useful for smaller amounts that you use on a day-to-day basis. I've been using Jaxx and find it very convenient.
If you've got any larger amounts that you just want to store (as opposed to actually spend), the use a paper wallet generated by My Ether Wallet.
Absolutely, especially if you know your recovery phrase/have your private keys. And if you have faith in the device/always keep it secure, that helps. I consider mobile wallets "hot" wallets meaning for more regular spending than safe keeping.
On the Mac I really like Exodus. I also like Jaxx they recently added Bitcoin Cash support and this one is available for both desktop and iOS. There is also Electron Cash which I'm less sure of. So those are a couple choices. Maybe someone else knows more options.
Yes, with the v1.3 we had that on the backlog to be checked and improved but you can still use it in the 1.2.41 versions that you can still get under the x86 options for Windows and Linux from here: https://jaxx.io/support.html
It might be easier (depending on where you live and services you have available) to buy bitcoin and trade it for ether, but both buying bitcoin and exchanging for ether will include fees, so compare it to buying ether directly first.
Really simple to do it in the Jaxx wallet because it it has ShapeShift (an exchange) integrated, and Jaxx is on all platforms and really simple to use.
Just create a wallet, make a backup by writing down your 12 words and store them safe on paper.
What you want to do with them is up to you, but you can now send them to whatever adress and brag about being part of the #CryptoMasterRace.
Ethereum is so much more than just a store of value though, so if you want to get into the tech then let me share this reading list.
I don't recommend MultiDoge. Go read he wallet ELI5s. Check the pinned posts on the right. Learn how to us WalletGenerator.net and Coinb.in and as a lite wallet, I recommend Jaxx.
Jaxx is a software wallet. A hardware wallet is better, but Jaxx is better than having your coin on an exchange.
Jaxx will show your balance in USD in realtime. I have mine set to show in USD and AUD.
Jaxx is available on your phone too, so you can access the same wallet by syncing the data.
Jaxx is easy to update by overwriting the application files with the new files downloaded from https://jaxx.io. The wallet data (your coins) is stored in another location on your PC, so overwriting the Jaxx application files will update the wallet without overwriting your wallet contents.
Be sure to write down your 'Backup Phrase' and keep it secure.
Have a look at Jaxx There is a version for most platforms and you can run the same wallet on your phone and desktop and its also a multicurrency wallet supporting BTC,ETH,LTC,Dash,ZEC,ETC....
Definitely skip Bitcoin Core, unless you're really into running a full node on your computer. There are other options to keep a personal wallet.
Take a look at hardware wallets like the Trezor or Ledger Nano S
Otherwise if that's too much, take a look at Jaxx https://jaxx.io
Jaxx is multiplatform and multi-currency.
Hi there,
You can test out your 12-word mnemonic on a different device (web extension, iPad, etc.) then uninstall and reinstall Jaxx on your original device. Visit https://jaxx.io/ to download Jaxx across 9 platforms.
Hope this helps!
Myetherwallet is web interface, not Electrum-like wallet. The answer to the question is: Jaxx
Lightweight Electrum-like wallet, supports all devices and operating systems, plus, it supports both Ethereum and Bitcoin.
Our friend says: "a wallet like Electrum".
The answer is NOT "install geth", shell commands, etc high-tech for developers, miners, full node supporters etc geeks.
The answer he wants is: Jaxx
Lightweight Electrum-like wallet, supports all devices and operating systems, plus, it supports both Ethereum and Bitcoin.

>Chris from Kryptokit here. As some of you may already know, this past week marked the beginning of our Jaxx code audit. We were alerted to a potential vulnerability in the Android version of Jaxx that would allow for malicious users to steal a user’s funds through specially designed code injection attacks.
>Our latest update, Jaxx 0.0.16, eliminates this possibility by disabling the Android version of Jaxx’s ability to import URI codes. This may create an inconvenience for a small minority of users, for which we apologize, but it’s important to us that we plug this security hole quickly. We are working on a less disruptive fix for the next release. I would like to stress that no users have reported any real-life instance of the malicious code issue described by our auditors. The 0.0.16 release also boasts a new transaction confirmation screen and some other UI tweaks and cleanups.
>We are still hard at work on ShapeShift integration - the visual elements are in place, we just have a little more testing to do before we’re ready to get it out there. We’re just as anxious as you all are to make it available!
>Thanks as always to the whole community for their support and feedback so far.
>All versions of Jaxx are available at our website .
>Changelog: 0.0.16 All versions: Updated send confirmation screen. Updated ethereum contract advanced window. Android: Security update.
>Reminder: Jaxx is beta software. Please stick to small amounts you’d be willing to lose.
