A must-buy, in my opinion, for $1.50 - NOX.
It came out around the time of Diablo II, and was mostly overlooked because of it. However, I find the gameplay to be far more engaging than any of the Diablos, and in general the narrative is more light and fun. There are three classes to play as, and the singleplayer is different for each of them, so even offline, there's great replayability. It's not just a clickfest, and there's actual skill involved if you want to be good. Playing online back in the day made you realize that quick. There's still a tiny little community that plays periodically, also: /r/nox
I actually plan on developing a game that employs similar combat mechanics at some point, but I'm still learning unreal engine 4, and I'm busy enough as it is. I would love to release a more modern take on the game.
Nox.
>To say that Nox is just a Diablo clone (as many Critics accused it to be at the time of its release) is to greatly underestimate this game...
...lots of truth there.
In terms of older games that still hold up, Nox is a fantastic Diablo clone, with enough of its own charm to stand on its own. The magic system in particular is very good, especially for a game from 2000. at 1.50 it's an absolute steal.
Hi the only place where i could find a leggit download was over here: https://www.gog.com/game/nox I haven't found one with better graphics though!
But for me theese old graphics take me back to the good old days so I don't mind!
Hope this was usefull to you!
Lol oh crap I meant Nox. Sorry damn autocorrect. Going full speed blazes today haha lol. Sorry my bad.
I don't believe it is on steam yet but it is on gog.
Made by Westwood Studios (RIP) 31 January 2000.
One of the few games that could stand on its own as a great top down rpg back when these games were classics.
Even had a multiplayer free download but then Westwood Studios lost full rights to EA and well EA did their thing and destroyed it.

My favourite (obscure) bird's view games:
Blood Omen, PSX game but there should be a PC version
Ahh yes, I've had this problem before.
Have you tried Nox (https://www.gog.com/game/nox) or Depths of Peril (http://store.steampowered.com/app/23600/). I'd try Nox first, then perhaps Depths of Peril.
Both are pretty good. I have nothing to mention that hasn't been mentioned, except that I tried Titan's Quest last year and I could not play it more than 30 minutes. I guess it is so outdated now that it's a pain to play.
edit: Also, Din's Curse (http://store.steampowered.com/app/217290/)
Grim Dawn is pretty good, and may quench your thirst for a good 10 hours.
There's also the Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing. Pretty decent games. I beat the first and got 50% through the second before I got bored. There's no story and the gameplay is pretty repetitious. But worth checking out one of em at least.
As for Diablo 2, there is the Medial XL mod (increased diff, new tilesets, new skilltrees) and Slash Diablo (there's a sub for this). D2SE mod manager is useful for selecting patches and mods. PlugY mod also gives you a huge stash but I don't think you can play online with it.
Pretty old-school but maybe Nox would be up your alley, it's a top-down isometric hack n slash game, it only has three classes, but in addition to playing differently, they also have different story arcs (at least through the first act). The game isn't especially long (maybe 15 - 20 hours) and really only has replay value up to about 3 times, but it's a damn good game, and is often dirt cheap at GoG.

NOX
An old Diablo-style action-rpg from 2000 where you are just a regular dude who happens to have a magical artifact as an ornament in your home. And then just happens to get summoned to another world along with it when an evil necromancer enact a plot of world domination.
Really great game, uses a real time line of sight system they even named "TrueSight" so you only see what your character would see. You get some good replay value as the three classes are different enough (Warrior, Mage, and Summoner) and you get different story parts depending on your class.
Would recommend to anyone who likes isometric action RPGs, its really cheap on GoG!
Something older Nox
*EDIT* Wasn't sure I still had this bookmarked, but I found it Ginormous List of Diablo Clones (believe someone on here shared it sometime ago.)
Hello today! I woke up 10 mins before the alarm so might as well write this up.
Didn't get much gaming this week, started playing Nox again, because The Warlock campaign in HoMM 5 is hard. I finished a lot of Netflix shows (OH NOOOO, I"M TURNING INTO MATT!!) - Carmen Sandiego was actually pretty good, even if it needed to be like 10% more cheesy. The Kirlian Frequency was about an hour-long horror mini-series which was pretty stylish and cool. Archer Season 9 was very enjoyable, much better the season 8, and the teaser for season 10 was very cool.
Honestly, that's about it. This weekend will celebrate my gpa's birthday, I finally read the Sonic comic, which was awesome. Yeah I donno. You know one of those period where you just want to skip a slow/boring/tense part of your life? I'm in this area right now and I want the summer to arrive as far as possible.
hm... Nox reenacted by character from Archer... At first I was like "naaaaaah", but the more I think about it, the more I realize how good it would work.
The main character is Archer (a regular white dude). The villain is Mom (an older lady running for world domination). The old man guide could be Kreiger... Actually no, Kreiger is the main wizard (old science/magic man), Figgis could be the Warrior Leader (slightly evil). Pam could be the companion that flies a balloon-ship (overweight ship captain). Not many love interests, but that's fine. And the generic story about finding a super artifact and beating the villain.
Well I guess it's probably som compatability issue. And I wont be able to help much with that. Unless you have infact already tried it, I recommend buying and playing irlt through GOG. https://www.gog.com/game/nox Its cheap, and they seem to specialize in making old games work on new systems. If it doesnt work and they can't help you, at least you can get the money back again.
