ah Liero! the best game for pc back then. I still play it seldomly with my brother. for those asking for a working version, this is the one remake that comes the closest to the original, the only thing that is missing is the ability to control missiles. it even has 0% reload times.
...aaand some more games I thought I'd mention:
OpenLieroX (74.3 MB) - 2DOMS - Online multiplayer version of Liero, the original 2D Multiplayer shooter, which was basically a real-time version of Worms. Few games online though.
Wings 2 (17.3 MB) - 2D Lunar Lander style dogfighter from Finland. Few players, and hard to find a game if you're in a different timezone than Finland.
One of the Liero clones, probably Lierox: http://www.openlierox.net/
Edit: 90% sure Lierox was the only version that exactly matches your description. Older releases had a different UI that more closely matched what you're describing.
Father and Son-Days - Liero - It is a lot of fun to play, and if you download it from here, it comes with some mods installed! Think of things like: maps, weapons, extra settings, etc. This version also has online games, if local play isn't an option. I'd love to see a battle between the two.
How about <strong>Liero</strong>? It's like worms, but in realtime and complete mayhem. I haven't played it since I was a kid and I just came to think of it! There's a new version out with online play and it's multiplatform!
Well, Liero is typically straight PvP, while Teeworlds has a variety of gameplay modes. If I was going to compare, I'd say that Teeworlds is more similar to Soldat.
If you like Liero, be sure to try out OpenLieroX.
IMHO, Teeworlds is the best of these types of games.
Liero Xtreme is a multiplayer arena battle game that's based on the Worms series, it's real time, has interesting game physics, countless community mod and weapon packs, and best of all, it should run flawlessly on just about any computer system. That 20 year old laptop you have sitting collecting dust? It can probably play Liero.
Liero Xtreme - if you liked the classic game Liero, this is a LAN multiplayer alternative.
Little Fighter 2 - if you dig the old school beat em up style games. I'm not actually sure if you can do more than 2 players over LAN with this game though as I've never tried. You definitely can have up to 4 players on the same computer.
Just had a quick look, for multiple players you may want to hit up OpenLiero X @ http://www.openlierox.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
From memory, the official Liero had a 2 player limit with no network play
The dependencies are in the DEPS file and also here. They are probably outdated because they don't match. I think the one in DEPS is more accurate.
Also, how did you manage to make it compile? Here it just gives me some errors
[500](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/500_(ball_game\))? Or the kickball variant, Kick Ball 300.
Someone's description with "mystery box" included: http://www.openlierox.net/forum/index.php?topic=12192.0;wap2
Boy Scout version (which uses "grab bag" rather than mystery box): http://www.boyscouttrail.com/content/game/500-1856.asp
Liero Extreme (now called OpenLieroX I think), was the game I played. I came with tons of huge maps and weapon mods. Those rope skills, snipers combos and mortar combos bring back the memories. Also online multiplayer. Did original Liero have online multiplayer? Because this had online multiplayer.
Crap, now I have to install this again.
There is a free game called Liero, it's worms-ish but you control a single worm and you have way more extreme weapons arsenal and a awesome level editor.
Dunno if this was the version I played in my teens but check it out!
I first played Worms and Worms 2 on the PC. Apparently the original game came out for the Amiga, but I believe until recently PCs have been the focus.

I also played Liero, which was a similar idea but in realtime. OpenLieroX is probably the most popular third-party evolution of Liero.
roses are red / violets are blue / this was actually approved by the government for development and production, and then went into her bedroom with the older redheaded sister 13 ! at the time. even worse was when the hairs started growing back, they gave me a big christmas present. open yale courses http://oyc.yale.edu/ - opencourseware - harvard computer science 50 open liero x http://www.openlierox.net/ - real time worms clone. defraggler http://www.piriform.com/defraggler - defragmentation software for windows. i grabbed a case of murdering of two sisters which happened in the 60s.
Do you like OpenLieroX? :)
It's mostly C++. You might want to check out this.
I'm one of the main devs... Feel free to ask me anything.
