Then you might just be able to convince someone to join you.
Good luck!
A bit of advice... You're looking for a job... But clicking on your itch.io, the first thing seen is "Go outside or the sun with fucking rape your shit". Which is fine for some people, but it's not exactly putting your 'best foot forward' when looking for a job.
> The quality, IMHO, is on par with Plants vs Zombies...
You have to be trolling me at this point. How does this in any way stack up to this?
I understand the fact that contractors are afforded more, but that's more for the convenience of an employer to not withhold social security and other employee benefits, as well as only asking the contractor to work on a project to project basis.
Well first, you can find a lot of sound effects over on Freesound or on Soundjay. Might be a good place to start to find things specific to your needs for free (just be sure to credit the content creators!)
As for music, if you are planning on selling the game for money (which, considering the quality and time invested I am assuming you are), you should really consider revenue sharing or something. I'm sure there are musicians willing to work for "exposure", but consider their time invested as well.
Followup edit: To be clear, if you are planning on giving away the game for free with no microtransactions or whatever, I feel that asking people to work for free is fairly legitimate. But it's still worthwhile to compensate artists for their time. I know this is a debate that has gone on forever :/
I think you might be a bit too rude with yourself.
First of all, i think you can learn to make i game. With the right approach and motivation, absolutely anybody can make a game on his/her own, it just requires a lot of patience.
You might be interested on giving a try to Game Maker, you can try it out for free.
In regards to actually working with you, i'll be pleased! But i'm still figuring out how to learn game dev myself ):
I would suggest you to tweak a little bit your post, drop that "disabled" part out, and highlight what you do can make.
Also, even if you "cannot" program or draw, i'd suggest you to at least design games on paper with a lot of design, not only story-wise or loose ideas, but an actual game that a developer or a group can look at and really turn it into an idea.
The learning of programming is absolutely not a waste of time.
You might want to give a try to this lovely programming language: https://scratch.mit.edu/
Don't be turned of by the orange kitty (it's absolutely lovely!) or the puzzle pieces. It's programming just as bashing colorful code on a text editor. If you want to, give it a good try, and always bear in mind that the most important thing when programming, is understanding the fundamentals, and understand what is going on, the logic. Then, if you end up liking it and transition to a more "real" programming language, you'll just have to learn a couple words, but the logic will remain.
Sorry for the rant, i just honestly think anybody can code.
Good luck!
I'm afraid you're a wee bit behind the times on a lot of your assertions. Monogame has been supporting DX11 since 2012. There's still a bunch of active development on it, and the games coming out for it. It's even being supported by Sony to try and attract smaller developers like Past to Future Games to the PS4. In fact, there are currently games on the PS4 built in monogame. I'm sure I don't have to mention Bastion or Fez.
Please don't hate on our team. Monogame is a perfectly good piece of middleware that is allowing us to assemble a solid, fun RPG.
I went through the same mind set. I wrote and rewrote advice and then saw that whatever I wrote it would be taken negatively. I remember how obnoxious and defensive I could be when I was in highschool. Even when I left highschool and worked in the industry I was still hard to work with. Character and disposition to the project is incredibly important in working as a team.
That said...
If you are part of Skippertech's team, or thinking of starting a similar project, my advice to you would be to find out what a 2D artist might consider as payment for a set of graphics. Then take that amount and put it into your kickstarter after working out the other costs you will encounter. Add 20% to this for emergency money. Spend all 120% on your project and your backers.
Before launching the kickstarter create a demo of what you intend to make. Use free placeholder graphics. They may not be your final product, but people want to see that you can deliver on your promises before they back it.
I would very much suggest the work of Kenney on OpenGameArt.org. The guy has done so much for indie developers and his work is on point.
Well, usually writers have their own wordpress/blogspot page where they provide easily accessible samples of their work.
Couple of examples I picked from just googling "game dialog writing portfolio": Portfolio demonstrating knowledge of dialog writing tools: http://www.sethsterr.com/game_dialogue.php
Portfolio of a writer who has worked on a few games: https://sites.google.com/site/tjubert/
Don't work for free! At the very (very) least you should go the revshare route (it's essentially working for free as the chance of actually seeing the game made, let alone be a commercial success, is very small).
If you want to build a portfolio with free work, make some music and put it up on a site like opengameart.
And posting some of your previous work (even though it isn't video game music) would help a lot.
Hello! i'm Mateus Vinícius, a brazilian programmer and web developer who has recently started studying 3d modeling and Vector Art. My art style focuses on low poly and cartooony stuff.
I'm looking for opportunities and ideas to expand my portfolio and get some experience, as I tend to do better working on ideas people give me instead of my own. It's not that I'm not the creative type, but I kinda like bringing people's ideas to life and that gives me some motivational boost.
So, I'm looking for any kind of jobs and activities, for example creating marketing materials and illustrations for websites. Not too sure on how my models would work out in games, since I don't have skills with rigging yet, but could make props.
I have a full time job, and this is mostly a hobby for now, so can't make stuff that quick, so if you need stuff ASAP, I'm not the one for the job.
Could give priority to paid stuff if someone feels like it, tho haha
You can keep up and check a the process of creating that Breakfast model on my Dribbble account.
Hey there! I'm not an artist and have no intention of joining your project but I played your demo and I have to say that you have a ways to go in terms of design. The levels should be getting harder with each progression, not easier. Also, it's really unclear where the hit boxes are so sometimes it looks like things should be exploding but they don't. Take a look an example chain reaction game here for pointers: http://www.kongregate.com/games/sharfah/chain-reaction
Good luck!
Hey, Im Nic. Sounds like an interesting project you have. Im interested in working with you. Here is my porfolio, feel free to send me a PM if youre interested.
Edit; my portfolio host may be having some issues, if the first link doesnt work, try this link!
I couldn't agree with this more. Always make, always build. Build crap stuff, build boring stuff, build broken stuff because you're still learning. Give it to people so they can feed back. Get a bit better. Keep building, keep showing it, keep getting feedback. Build less crap, less boring, less broken stuff. Show off. Build much less boring, much less crap. Keep going and going and going and going. Learn enough code to get you through, learn enough art to get it looking roughly like you need it to. Stuck? Start googling, start learning. Someone, at some point has had the same problem as you and fixed it so the solution is out there somewhere. Things are most difficult when you are learning and getting better at them. If it feels like a losing battle, you're growing.
Some links:
There are game hubs in places like Bristol, Cardiff, Cambridge etc (all UK, but generally a quick google around your area will find one). Talk to game devs. Show them your stuff, weep as they rip it shreds, try again.
Last note:
Some days you really can't be bothered. Like after work or after a long day in traffic or something. Which is fine. Have a tea or a beer, sigh, whinge, shout at yourself, what ever. Just sit back down and carry on making stuff.
Build, break, cry, repeat!
Oh wow- I have recently been learning a tool similar to this called Articy Draft. Check them out!
Its kind of like an advanced version with some really great tools and reclusion. Good to know that I am on the right track... I just started going digital with my game designs and doing some 3D modeling. Most of my games are tabletop, so before this I was all analog.
Hi! I've been creating games alone for the past 10 years (since I was 9), where I would do all the programming, art, music/sfx, story, and design myself.
Working alone has taught me a lot, but I'd love to take it to the next level, and form a team. Specializing myself within 2D art would be fantastic, as I greatly enjoy doing it, and love to challenge myself and experiment.
Here's a recent game, where I designed and created all the art myself: http://www.kongregate.com/games/FuryZoneStudios/tiny-fruit
Including this image of a cat, which was used as the icon for the game: http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2015/045/8/0/tiny_fruit___photorealistic_tom_by_olivebates-d8hz20d.png
I won't be able to work very much until my exams are over though, but I hope that wont matter.
How long have you been in the game industry yourself, and what successes have you had, if any? Just curious :)
Hello, my name is Khaynã Ferreira and I'm a freelance illustrator and character artist.

I look forward to hearing from you!

All of the artwork and music there is my work. It's not the greatest (I literally started learning on those tiles for that project). Keep in mind that those are large (512x512) images designed to be IIRC 64x64 or 128x128 at the very largest.
Sounds lovely man, shame about the lack of payment (Life wont let me take part of nice projects like this one ) :/ Good luck with it and if you manage to get some capital to get paid artists at some point give me a shout as Character design is my jam:
Thanks guys . I came across this post which convinced me to open an artstation account.
FREE. It depends on the game. I got recently more than 100 sales for game which I can count from my stats and I guess another few from featuring my review as a curator.
The service is the following one; Hi there!
For those who don't know what a steam curator is... It's mainly a Word-of-Mouth recommendation system in which a curator elaborate a review on the steam store recommending a game in a short but engaged review.
I started the page 28 days ago and it has been gaining almost 40 followers per day which let me tell you it's a really good stat.
My page is focused on steam indie games, excluding those which are hyper famous and only reviewing those which are not that famous (steam range of number of total reviews from 3 to 1000 reviews).
Currently I'm only interested in showing up indie games which are top, so I don't mind if your game has 3 reviews or if it's going to be launched and the marketing thing is not decent and consequently the total number of purchases is going to be low. All I'm looking for is quality, this is it. Even some guys have offered me a few bucks for reviewing their games but if the quality of those games is poor that wouldn't fit with the kind of curating page I'm trying to develop, roadness to quality and not specially known games.
So this is it, folks. Here's the page:
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32516565/
The only thing left to talk about it's about the waiting list which is currently for 6 days+-.
Hope you enjoy my page and of course feel free to throw me offers through the new steam tool, steam curator connect, a tool which allows you to send the game without sending keys so you avoid the gray market reselling thing.

Hey man! You might want to check out a couple other places to find a project to work on!
First, /r/inat is a cool place to find a team to work with (i need a team). Look for people looking for gamejams so you can try your hand at a quick project and build up your portfolio.
You can also see a good schedule of game jams that are coming up over on itch.io here. If you can't find a team, you can always try and form one of your own!
If you just want to find character art stuff to do, also try out r/characterdrawing/! You'll get a lot of practice there and since it's a free sub if they don't like it they can't yell at you too much! And if they do you can post it to /r/choosingbeggars and reap that sweet karma.
Hey man, if you are still considering artists, I've done a bit of isometric pixel art here's a few http://imgur.com/a/ahl5Q as well as working on an isometric game in my free time http://www.indiedb.com/games/wizard-school-working-title.
I could definitely be interested, and it sounds like a good project. It'd be hella hard to give a pretty good estimate for what the project needs still knowing so little about it. But if you need someone, you can email me at .
Unreal probably has templates for the first person player character to move around in, you'd just have to set it up with your own assets.
Unfortunately I don't see anything on the marketplace for exactly what you're after for your books. There is this though, which would probably be a good starting place for a programmer to extend it - https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/old-animated-books
I don't know about specifics for cost or time, but this doesn't sound terribly difficult for someone who is familiar with unreal. I don't know Unreal terribly well, but if this was Unity it would probably take me a few days.
Look into game jams! They're like writing prompts for games, you can enter your project with a bunch of other people and its super fun, sounds like what you need
I'm a pixel artist and digital artist, I can do some commission work if you know what you want, you can see my work on my twitter

Because I don't like being paid and then the customer doesn't like the track. This way you cannot lose. But you can donate to me here: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=6ADDCSU7CT5AY
In case you weren't aware, there's a Photoshop CS6 Plugin that converts several images to an isometric image that costs about $120, so you might have some leeway in choosing artists depending on how well that plugin works (which seems to be pretty well).
Light background with dark text gives a feeling of openness.
Blues and grays give a feeling of being at ease, and may make people more comfortable with your presentation.
Reds and oranges give a perception of power and ambition and may help you say "I'm ready to take charge of something important."
It's up to you, but those are some things that helped me out when I was making my first few pages.
Last thing is, don't make your heading static/non-scrolling. It dominates the page and makes it feel blocked in and trapped.
Edit: Here is a cool color scheme resource: http://paletton.com/#uid=1000u0kllllaFw0g0qFqFg0w0aF
I programmed this entirely by myself (It's a 2D run and gun shooter): https://mega.nz/#!gRx1nIJD!bJNoohwEsFHdEPRcNeV_NoUCbN9Q4oNYAIBcJwfHTZg
I haven't done anything turn based but it would be relatively simple to implement.
I just checked the game you were working on. The Prince, right? I'd be willing to do a week's work in advance on that as a test of my skills.
That's awesome and sounds a lot like what they're trying to do with crowdsourcer.io. Actually better (at least in my opinion) since your system is based on actual hours instead of estimated. Very interested to see how that works out. I myself log time with near-obsessive precision...
I could do it on a small budget as a side job, but I don't have much free time, so I would rather not volunteer that free time for any free work. Let me know if you would be interested in some help with the pixel art for a small fee. Some of my pixel art can be seen at http://opengameart.org/users/tap but I stopped using that site and must put together a new portfolio. Regardless, you can see enough on OGA to determine whether I have skill. Many people like my old multi-part sprite style: http://opengameart.org/content/multi-part-sprites-and-other-objects
http://opengameart.org/users/zabin
Some great stuff there. Try building something with them. You'll have a lot more luck getting someone in to help customize if you have something working to demonstrate.
The screenshot you've posted looks like it's from Firebase, so I assume you're using it? https://firebase.google.com/docs/unity/setup
I agree with @promgamer that you're not paying enough for what you're asking. Firebase's documentation and video tutorials are good though, so it'd be best if you learnt to do it yourself if you don't have the money to pay a developer the right rate. You should probably add a zero and pay around 2000.
I'm a novice designer/writer who has released two small free games. Particularly, they are games that are concerned with the experience inside of the player's head and thus- quite different. I would like to say that gives me versatility- as I can do normal stuff too and have (though unreleased). You can find my work below.
Well... I'm currently in need of some sound for my #indiequilt game http://gamejolt.com/games/puzzle/lesya-s-challenge/32988/
I was looking for some stock footage but it's hard to find some sfx and a background loop that match... if you're interested let me know, could be good experience?
We have a game on Google Playstore which has no trailer yet....we don't exactly need it that urgently but if you want a project to work on you could use that game....you can download it from Playstore and play it as you screencapture it coz we don't have videos of it. It's called " ReUnite:Destiny " -by VOiD1
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.VOiD1.ReUnite
.... You can contact us via reddit or via social handles of instagram(@void1gaming) or twitter(@void1games) further details about the project....
P.S. Don't don't have this misjudged....we are simply trying to help and not advertise our game on your comments....Feel free to play and edit if you like and contact us before proceeding....
The picture above is an example of one of the screenshots I am currently using.
Here is the situation. I have a mobile game that gets ~1000 to ~2500 downloads a day, and I think it could do so much better with actual screenshots, and not the screenshots a non-artist like myself was able to come up with.
If you're interested, take a look at the game's Screenshots and Icon here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lavaflame.IdleSkilling
If you think "Yea I could do much better than that", PM me and I'll explain what features/quality in the art I'm looking for!
Clean Code, Design Patterns, code complete, maybe pragmatic programmer.
It sounds like you have a handle on syntax and logic, you could just use a helping hand with patterns, anti-patterns, standards and organizing your code. That's usually a good intermediate step, and will help you transition from being a hobby programmer to working. If you're open minded, I'm guessing you'll be fine. Start with clean code, great book.
I own everything, sorry.
i'll make a list for you
Alienantworld
alienantworld content and assets
alien ant world demo
alienantworld etc.
I own everything from the name to the contents.

To bad for whatever you are trying to do as a scammer/manipulator posting on a burner account.

here's a shitty little platforming engine i shot up in a couple of hours but also including those terrible drawings. there's more but some of them are NSFW. i can port to IOS and PC but I've not tested it on mac - i can export as flash files though so it's not too big a problem.
So you're looking for some heavy lineart aesthetic backgrounds for your game?
I've read through your post. It sound great. And i think i'm a good fit since that's alot of what i've done in my previous projects.
Please my portfolio link:

Don't we all? I don't really understand what kind strategy you're aiming for here - Who is supposed to promote your game and how are they supposed know about these 'results' that their compensation is depending on? You're going to have to give in order to get in this situation and that's either going to include handing over partial ownership to a publisher or getting off your butt and start making contacts.

A GDD is a “Game Design Document”. It’s a living breathing doc that explains what your game is and how it’s going to work.
here’s an article that explains GDD in depth.
If you’re using Unity, the Unity Cookbook by O’reillys is excellent.
You can also get books on narrative structure, C# or the programming language you’re using etc and you might even find that you’re able to create a “Vertical Slice” of gameplay that you can use to drum up a following for your game.
(A vertical slice is a fully-playable portion of a game that shows its developer's intended player experience. This means its key features and systems are all working together properly, complete with assets that represent – and this is important – final quality.) Stardew Valley’s solo developer Eric Barone uses this method :)

Are you still looking for a programmer? I'm an embedded C engineer and I have experience making several hobby game both solo an as part of a group. Here's some projects I've worked on: https://itch.io/c/364627/games-christopher-mclaughlin-helped-make
This seems fun! I'm pretty good with Unity myself and as long as you don't need someone to work long hours throughout the week (I'm assuming you wouldn't because this is just for fun) then I'm all in!
This is probably one of the better things I've made pertaining to "FPS's".
Hi! I'm a experienced branding artist. Willing to work on the requested logo and I have some big concepts in my mind. Here's my port: https://dribbble.com/pedrodvisions

Feel free to contact me:
Quite sadly no, I myself am not overly skilled with the chiptunes. I tend to roll more towards orchestral/rock stuff. It's something I hope to branch into eventually, but ahh time.
However! I've got a good friend here on reddit who excels at that very thing and is usually looking for work. Here's his page on soundcloud. His reddit name is cityfires as well.
Thank you for your interest! I hope you'll consider us for sfx/other branches of music in the future.

I have not posted many complete "official" projects, more like doing prototyping internally, but I do have a game you can see (I had to keep it optimized for browser support): http://gamejolt.com/games/haunted-rescue/221410
P.S. I will soon be releasing another mini game that I have finished so at the moment I'm free, it will be on the same account (gamejolt)
Oh, I am definitely trying to establish something. I have a Tumblr, currently, but don't have much of anything on it at the moment.
Still, it will be updated--slowly but surely. If you'd like the Tumblr blog, it's at https://www.tumblr.com/blog/parallelzodiacproject

What engine do you use? I am working on a Tycoon game using Godot Engine. We plan to sell the game on itch.io and eventually Steam if it is good. We did facebook marketing surveys, google adwords surveys, and a few in-person surveys and our tycoon game is unique and people seem interested in it. Being a tycoon game, it might not be as much game dev as you might like and more actual coding, keep that in mind. :) PM if interested. ( OP or anyone reading this).
Hi ! ooh C# ? So you are familiar with Unity ? It's an event where participants must create a game in a couple of days, like 3 days for this one =) It's a matter of learning, having fun, getting some experience. Here is the link : https://itch.io/jam/extra-credits-game-jam-4
A game jam is basically an event where a game developer, or a team of developers try to make a game in 24-48-72 hours. The game jam has a theme and multiple teams will compete to make a game to best suit the theme. Game jams are great excuses to prototype stuff and work with people, as they are not as long term or committed as real game group projects. If you are interested in game dev I would suggest finding a group and participating in one. A big upcoming one is Ludum Dare in October, but there are also smaller ones you can find through https://itch.io/jams or meetups.
Ok nice. Is there a preferred way to show you stuff of my project so you could say if you would be interested? Discord maybe? (I got no site running or video online because the game is still in alpha despite I already made 120 levels. I didn't want to get it out there before I'm sure about the graphics style and the music and so on. I mainly concentrated on the gameplay aspects and already had some playtesters.) I also have an earlier build on itch.io for playtesting recruitement (not public), if you want to have a look. I already made some mini gameplay trailers.
Hey there,
I love your art style and think it would go really well with the atmosphere I'm trying to create. Im trying to make this game as calming and relaxing as possible to lend itself to the mental 'cool down' vibe i'm going for with the game. If you'd like to make a mockup or two and send it over of what you'd do with these screens I'd love to take a look!
Just an FYI, I am looking for a ~July Kickstarter start date so there is a little bit of crunch, but after that hopefully take a year to get to the final product. Anyway, take a look at the imgur album to see what I currently have (which is just...bad...) and the sort of minimalist look I'm going for off the bat in the second link.
Take care!
Hi there Jen,
I really love your stuff, especially the floating island as the 'garden' the player manages, grows on, and decorates, is a floating island. I feel like maybe you're art is a little too good? I'm going for a minimalist style to get to the kickstarter campaign level, but eventually want to hire a fulltime artist to give all assets a hand painted look (think warcraft). If you'd like to do a screen mock up or two, please send them over. I'd love to look at them. Take a look at the imgur album to see what I currently have (that I absolutely hate) and the minimalist style i'm going for in the apk link.
Thanks!
Hey, I've been looking exactly for somebody like you. I'm also trying to build my portifolio but I lack any skill other than programming and game mechanics. I like doing retro games so I think your pixelart (would love to check some examples) would fit perfectly! This is the only game I managed to finish: http://www.kongregate.com/games/iwasthesword/minicraft
I also do a lot of prototyping but always end up with unfinished stuff (this is an example).

hmmm...I only have one example at the moment, but I can easily create more if you're interested. I have my own recording capabilities and everything. I don't mind working for whatever's available.
Our team will hopefully be able to make it out. It would be our first con together and I imagine a kind of crazy experience for us. Are there any resources for how to survive these kinds of thing as a developer?
Hi ZorbaTHut! How's things? I have a team working on a 2,5 sidescroller game (in Unity) with action-adventure, stealth and puzzle elements to the mix (our page - www.facebook.com/blackhelgagames). Would this sort of gig interest you? http://www.indiedb.com/jobs/lead-programmer36
This platform can be very useful for indie teams. I've known about it from Maxime at first time in Indie Games Developer group on LinkedIn.
Maxime is our good friend!
Good luck with UMOGA, Max! Sincerely, Sol-Ark's team
Sol-Ark project is looking for additional artist. We are the team from around the world. Check here for more info - http://www.indiedb.com/games/sol-ark-2d-space-rts-sandbox-rogue-like If you are interested, then feel free to send me PM or email me
I have done some work on RPG's in my spare time (using Unity and RPG Maker VX) a link to an unfinished RPG project from a long time ago: http://gamejolt.com/games/godhead/16467. I have a great deal of experience working with both sequenced and dynamic cutscenes within Unity.
This is like telling someone not to give music lessons if they didn't even sell a few millions of albums yet and sport teachers should have at least won the Olympics once.
I know where you are coming from. Making AAA games or any high quality game is ridiculous complicated especially if you want it to run on more than one platform. And I also know how it feels like to join a new project and find a mess because many game developer out there aren't experts yet. But you can't start at zero and immediately become an AAA developer and I don't claim to make anyone an AAA developer. I am pretty sure if you look 22 years back you will find that your code wasn't the best too. And you have to start somewhere.
These are games too: http://gamejolt.com/
Anyway how about we move this discussion to skype and you give me the possibility to talk to you first before you conclude that I am a beginner. Will send you my skypeid via pm.

Hi! Although the "over 9000 emails" thing that was mentioned earlier is more than accurate, I hope that maybe you will notice this 12th comment:)
My name is Ivan and I'm a composer. You can find my portfolio here:
I specialize in composing music often stylized as a certain genre or culture. Piano, Orchestral, Electronic, Rock, you name the style, and soon the track will be ready.
As for the rates, (since that is the topic anyway) it would be $150 per minute of music.
If my offer got you interested, feel free to contact me via email [email protected]
Have a lovely day!
Check out our project http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/game-dev-life-run-through-history-and-try-to-make-your-very-own-best-seller/x/6445588
And please give me a pm if you think you can contribute to the engine dev.
Nah, sorry. If someone can make amazing flip book animations with stick figures, but doesn't have to artistic chops to wrap a decently rendered and consistently drawn piece of art around that motion, they're just as useless to me.
Edit: Wow, I totally meant to reply and not post a new comment haha
Typically, it's because the art is so bad and I can't make the game look like what I see in my head, in my experience working with others, I'm typically the most devoted to the project. Another problem is that I make a functional engine, but have no story, content, or creative elements to add to it. It could also be that my aspirations extend beyond the natural limit of my abilities and I lose patience, but either way I feel I'll be much more able to see a game through to completion when working with someone else.
Still, I understand your concern, so if you have any ideas for short flash games with relatively simple gameplay and graphics, I'd be happy to work with you. Seeing your background art, I'd think we'd be able to make a pretty good story-based flash adventure game of sorts, akin to Coma, if that's something you'd be interested in. I have more than enough experience programming to be able to make this game, it's the creativity I lack.
