Bloodline Champions, this game is in dire need of more players as it is the only thing the game lacks. I will personally give lessons to all interested.
Bloodline champions is a free to play rts style arena game with elements taken from fighting games such as EX abilities and power meters.
edit: keep the upvotes coming doods! remember this game is SERIOUSLY under rated!
My vote's for Cube 2: Sauerbraten.
Available for Mac, Windows, and Linux, Sauerbraten is a free, online multiplayer shooter. Yes, it would be another FPS, but I am confident that people will enjoy it.
If anybody is wondering what happened to the free and open-source FPS called Nexuiz, the project's founder sold off the trademark to a commercial studio to "remake" it as a propriatery game on the Cry Engine. The game that was called Nexuiz is retroactively renamed "Nexuiz Classic"
However, the rest of the community continues to improve the original DarkPlaces-based game as Xonotic.
Magicka
I nominated last week, and still think it would be a great choice.

A team of up to 6 men must survive 10 waves of terrifying and disturbing creatures created by Horzine Biotech, with a boss at the end of wave 10. You use the money earned buy killing these creatures for buying different weapons, preferably suited for your current perk (Sharpshooter, Firebug, Demolitions, Berserker, Support, Medic). It's great fun and great teamwork!
Free, also available separately from Steam here. Works only on Windows.
It's a fast-paced MOBA, but unlike other MOBAs, this one focuses on fast teamplay arena, with very short matches (up to 10 minutes). Very fun when played together with some friends. Desperately needs more players, as it's a very good game, but can't attract more users for it somehow.
~~IIRC either KidDeath or Tuckerism had been planning to set up a calendar, so I assume they have something coming soonish, in the meantime there is the RSS feed in the sidebar that can be used for announcements and the such~~

Price: Free to Play
Size: around 10000mb, large game, needs it for all those hats and things
Theowningone already has the server set up so getting a server for it is done with. To those who don't know about TF2 its class-based and focuses heavily upon that with 9 consisting of scout, soldier, pyro, demoman, heavy, engineer, medic, sniper, and spy all the names show alot of they're selves respectively
I vote for Xonotic which is a free FPS similar to Quake 3: Arena but has some added features. The website includes a few screenshots and a video demonstrating the gameplay. I've been playing this game a lot lately and I can honestly say it's a lot of fun.
Teeworlds - FREE! - Extremely fast paced, cute, and brutal 2d shooter. Movement is grappling-hook based and really fun. To try and imagine how fun the movement is, think Quake 3 if it was 2d. It has people playing so if you want to try it out you can before it is selected for a playdate.
Why not any of the Spring-based TA derivatives? They all play a fair bit like TA, are free and use a modern engine.
There's XTA, which is TA-like (uses TA content), BA, which is a little more hardcore/pro-mode, and a cluster of excellent new games that create completely new gameplay and units but play in a vaguely TA-ish style:
Zero-K (http://zero-K.info) which breaks down the TA tiers and instead of sporting 2 levels of kbots/vehicles/planes on 2 factions, instead just gives you one faction with one level (no advanced stuff) and 10 different starting factories to open with.
Or there's EvolutionRTS (http://www.evolutionrts.info/) which is far more stylistically consistent and simple since it's a one-man project, but still has sexy TA-style gameplay on a modern engine,
Okay I figured since we are (hopefully) going into action with this we would use Gameranger
I must say that the most common version of Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors is 1.0c although we could have games running 1.0 as well.
If you need the game I'm sure you can buy it from Amazon or you know what...
When the plan goes into action I suggest the people hosting have something like "Reddit" in the title followed by the version they are using.
Now I'm open for discussion of dates if you'd all like to suggest some.
Why not Xonotic? It's a fork of Nexuiz most of the community moved to after the original developer sold the game to another game company.
And if you do play, play instagib with hooks. It's the best :).
As a native French speaker, I really can't afford to join a group labelled "pd" (translates to "faggot"). Why couldn't you just name it "reddit"...
Windows, Mac, Linux
Free
It's a twitch shooter like Unreal Tournament. There are several game modes, instagib being the most popular.

I'm not positive if I'll be here on Sunday, but I'll try! I really like playing Transformice every once in a while, then not playing it for a while :)
Let's plan to use the 'reddit' room:
To do this, log in or click to play as a guest, then type
>/room reddit
into the chat box. If we need another room, we can always use something like /room playdate or /room reddit2.
Here's a few general pointers-
As a normal mouse, your goal is to touch the cheese, then go to the mouse hole. Use arrow keys or WASD controls to move and jump. The easiest trick to learn to get better at being a normal mouse is that you can jump mid-air. So, to extend your jumps, let yourself fall a bit, then jump as you begin to fall.
As you get better at being a normal mouse, you can also learn to wall jump. This lets you complete some stages without a shaman, but stages usually do not require that you wall jump. Basically, if you turn left and right in the air, you can jump off of walls as you approach them to slowly jump up walls. Try it out :)
As a shaman mouse, your goal is to help mice get to the cheese, then the mouse hole. When you are a shaman, objects appear in the bottom left you can place (boxes, planks of wood, anvils, etc.) within a range of yourself.
When placing an object, you can anchor the object by pressing B, C or V. B places an anchor on the object to the background. C anchors one object to another so it cannot rotate. V makes a rotating hinge.
You can also press space to make something a "ghost" object - it will interact with other objects, but mice can pass through them freely.
The tutorial here goes pretty in depth but those are probably the most important basics. If you watch other players you can get a feel for how to use the mechanics to solve some puzzles.
Team Fortress 2, if you don't know about it you should find out. Also Dinosaurs.
To comply with rules! It is free for Mac and Windows from Steam
Platform: Windows
Price: $5
The game that came before TF2. It came out in 1999 and uses the Doom engine IIRC. Lots of fun.

I didn't watch the entirety of the Let's Play, but I believe I understand the relative genre you're aiming at.
Have a look at Natural Selection 2 if you haven't already heard of it. The game has an in-client matchmaking, and requires loads of teamwork to succeed.
Good luck either way!
Magicka! The Website Also on Steam
EDIT: Assuming Sauerbraten's focus time is played tonight, this nomination should no longer be considered a valid nomination. I'd be happy to nominate it again in a few weeks, but let's have a fresh set of games for the upcoming week.
My vote's for Cube 2: Sauerbraten.
Available for Mac, Windows, and Linux, Sauerbraten is a free, online multiplayer shooter. Sauerbraten is fast moving and easy to play. I just picked it up last week after not playing it for months and could get right into it again. Even if you fail hard at FPS games, the element of speed allows you to run up, take the flag, and score without ever firing a shot (although you might get killed a couple of times :P).
Yes, this was nominated last week. And yes, I know I'm not supposed to re-nominate primary games, but we never actually played it during a focus time. It received plenty of support during last week's vote and I think it should receive another chance.
In the veins of this, how about Cube 2: Sauerbraten
It's a Quake inspired fps...but it's not like all those other Quake ripoffs. Sauerbraten is fast and played on much larger maps. Some of the maps are just absolutely breathtaking to fight in. I used to waster hours and hours on end playing it a few years back.
The beautiful thing about sourcemods these days is that they are totally free. To play RnL, all you'll need to have is the following:
You download this by opening your steam client, going to View -> Tools, and right clicking on Source SDK Base 2007 to select Install game. This gives you the source engine base on which RnL is created.
This is a full installer, just run it and make sure to restart steam when it's completed. It should show up in your Games list after a steam restart.
I'd advise going ingame, setting up the video settings, and getting familiar with the key mappings. One thing to make sure you have bound conveniently is the Voice chat button, which will be used frequently and quite hilariously.
Can't wait to play some, this mod, despite it's occasional rough edges, is really fun to play and can create some pretty tense moments.
Definitely. You can play it easily on GameRanger without the connection problems of ESO. Right now, there are around 12,000 multiplayer games of Age of Mythology (and The Titans) played on GameRanger each day. Very popular choice.
Google Calendar created. I may need some help with this as I have never set up a public calendar before so I'm not sure how the times will show up. It is currently set to GMT but there seem to be many options for setting the timezone (it may even do it automagically) if someone not in GMT could test.
Altitude - Easy and super fun multiplayer 2D plane dogfighting.
Besides that there are a bunch of free online multiplayer games I would recommend, but all require internet connections and some need Steam.
How about <strong>Liero</strong>? It's like worms, but in realtime and complete mayhem. I haven't played it since I was a kid and I just came to think of it! There's a new version out with online play and it's multiplatform!
Woah, I didn't expect this to get so much attention. I'm glad you guys like the logo.

Pre-order Natural Selection 2 and get instant access to the closed beta through Steam: http://www.naturalselection2.com/buy
Bunch of servers are up, the game is stable and is one of the funner games I've played in years. Has a friendly cooperative vibe in public games due to the small community so far, and gets very competetive if both teams know what they're doing.
So pre-purchase NS2, download the closed beta through Steam (only 10,000 beta spots) and let's enjoy this game before its even out! They have weekly updates and are one of the best development teams out there in terms of listening, fixing bugs fast, and keeping stuff fun and balanced.
Thanks, hopefully you guys enjoy this game as much as I am (got more hours in this games alpha/beta then I do in most COD games).
The new Nexuiz and the original Nexuiz are worlds apart, despite the new one being a remake. If you're interested in the old one, you can also check out Xonotic, which is a direct descendent of the original Nexuiz project, and you can read about the cause of the split from Nexuiz and some of the issues the creation of the commercial project brought up here. I'm probably suggesting Xonotic as a playdate game next week, too, so don't steal it!
Xonotic: Free Open Source
OS: Windows, Mac, Linux
This is an open source game, in the style of older FPS games, Much relates to The Unreal Tournament Series, Currently in Alpha, this game has a great engine, and great features, runs well, and is very fun!
What...? You must have misread my question. Urban Terror does indeed work great on Macs, in fact I was the one who suggested it. I was asking about Xonotic. :)
Xonotic's homepage states that the game is available for Mac (although I have yet to download it and verify).
As for the voting thingy, I can go in and edit/delete individual entries (and I assume others can as well). I hope there's a setting that disables that or this voting system could get seriously rigged.
It does contain opencandy adware, but only MSE and NOD32 consider opencandy a threat.

Hey - there's going to be a huge game of Bitfighter tomorrow night!
There should be a ton of people, and I can personally guarantee that the maps will be good. If you haven't given Bitfighter a try yet, or if you've had trouble finding people to play with, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!!
The marathon session will be on the Bitfighter Bash server (won't be up until it's time), and it starts at 8:00 Eastern time. To avoid any additional confusion, here's a countdown: http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?msg=Big+Bitfighter+Battle+VII&month=11&day=04&year=2011&hour=20&min=00&sec=00&p0=126
i made this little count down so we will all get there in time.

After my thread it would be wrong of me not to recommend Bloodline Champions.
Unfortunately it is PC only (as far as I know), but also recently added to Steam.

A fun free to play game. It also has in game tournaments with hour long qualification (play as many games as you can for that hour), after which it goes into elimination brackets for those who qualified.
This game has a heavy EU player base (more than the US one) and has EU and US tournaments so it's not biased towards US guys out there.
The closest thing I can compare this game to is Diablo 2 dueling. It's a really fun fast completely skill and team based game with quick matches.
I just updated the server version. Got rid of some lag issues when people with 200+ pings are in the game, but there still is some lag when players with high latency join. We might need another server in the USA, since I can't reach Lupich at the moment, so that he updates the server version.
There is a guide online on how to start the starmade dedicated server at: http://star-made.org/help
Because I know people are going to have issues, here's a guide to getting Tremulous installed and in the server.
Littlewargame (LWG)
Price: Free!
Platform: Windows/Mac/Linux
A browser-based RTS that runs on HTML5! The game is constantly being developed with updates to balance and content. We are currently able to mod to enjoy a different experience of LWG (think custom maps for WC3 and SC2!) Matchmaking is possible too to climb up ranks against your adversaries!
It's terrible. I'm sad to see it compared to Soldat but that's fine. I'm mortified to see it mentioned in the same thread as Abuse.
Crash Commando is a pretty awesome Soldat clone, but only for PS3.
What about Teeworlds? (I'm about to give it a try.) Aren't there any mods out there that are inspired by Abuse?
My kingdom for multiplayer Capsized. Oh well.
For my 2d shooters I much prefer Teeworlds, the cutest, most intense murderfest you'll ever play. I'm willing to check out soldat though, especially if it becomes an official playdate. Right now it looks like the only one I'll be able to join in on this week is Source Forts, but I'm really excited for that.
Its not that complicated. Just download and install Zero-K itself from its site. http://zero-k.info/Wiki/Download
It will download and configurre everything you need to play automagically.
If you want to play other Spring games, in Zero-K lobby go to settings and disable "limited mode" and restart it.
To Mac Users, Alien Swarm has a Platinum rating on wine, meaning it runs pretty much perfectly. If you need help setting that up, let me know.

The Ultimate installer for Enemy Territory
Will install the games with all maps and all commonly found mods, and fixes the widescreen issue. That way you don't have to play on Vanilla server, CAN'T WAIT WILL SEE YOU ALL ON TONIGHT

What you will need: a) the unpatched 1.0 version of the game b) Game Ranger c) optional: a microphone
Absolutely. =]
I'm not in your time-zone (GMT+1 here) but thanks to melkor112 posting this link I should make it on time, any chance you could edit the submission description and add this so that other non EDT Redditors can make it on time?
