All I"m seeing is that in 2011, they signed a development and distribution agreement with MGS. No details on the agreement itself.
Edit: Found it. The were an independant studio, the agreement they signed was them being bought by MS to become a 1st party studio.
From the Ori website:
>In 2011, Moon Studios became a Microsoft First Party Developer and is now working on Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
This was part of oriblindforestshop.com which was the place for official merchandise. That shop has been shut down and replaced with https://www.orithegame.com/store/ where you will not find any shirts. So as far as I know, that particular one is no longer available.
Yes, I am very serious about opening up a game studio for premium games (whether it be for mobile, consoles, or PC) and specifically aiming to make games like Ori and the Will of the Wasps (https://www.orithegame.com).
It’s relieving to hear that there are lower taxes for small businesses and there would be a lot of people who are passionate about game development.
Definitely agree. Anything remotely related to the plot was crammed into the back, and everything that came before it was filler. The plot itself was essentially the writers doing a speedrun of tying up as many plot points in as short of a time as possible.
Bought it because someone else said they liked it. I dredged through the chore that was the first 80% of the game, then mostly watched cutscenes for the last 20%. The enemies became so boring I skipped as many as possible, simply running from point A to point B to trigger the next cutscene.
Alternatively, I bought Ori and the Blind Forest three times and don't regret it. Playing this before KH3 may have made me set my expectations too high.
They did give him a gender look Ori is male moon studios revaled his gender here is the evedince from their website read about ori and the blind forest and it says an unlikely hero must journey to find his courage and confront a dark nemesis to save his home https://www.orithegame.com/blind-forest/ it says his meaning ori is a male NOW WE KNOW YOUR GENDER ORI

I'm mid 30s and I do much of my gaming through emulation. If you took away all my consoles and left me with my PC only, I would hardly tell a difference.
There are countless classics to experience through emulation - and many more ROM hacks to expand upon those too. One of the best gaming experiences I've had recently was the Super Metroid and A Link to the Past Crossover Randomizer.
And when I don't emulate, I often play games that either look like they are (like The Messenger), or look like they might as well be, with 2D gameplay but better looking graphics (like Ori and the Will of the Wisps).
Emulation and 2D indie PC games are definitely the way to go for classic gaming on a budget. The biggest thing is that your gamer friends will likely be gushing about the newest Pokemon game while you play the one from 20 years ago, missing the popular trends to make your own.
Specs seems solid.
Updated all kinds of drivers? Configured in-game settings? V-sync ON/OFF?
Have you tried rebooting the computer only to start the game upon bootup?
DirectX updated to correct version?
Tons of possibilites.. Also worth googling around. The chances are someone else have also experienced it through all this time.
Wish the best of luck!
Apparently not

“In 2011, Moon Studios became a Microsoft First Party Developer and is now working on Ori and the Will of the Wisps.”
They might operate “independently” and release smaller indie-style games but they are owned by Microsoft.
Good points all but no, they literally are a MS studio.

The downsampling makes sense but from these patch notes for Ori, they say 1080p120 with HDR is available on the S. I don't have an S to confirm if it can actually do it in practice though.

In case you haven't seen them, the May 14 patch notes include this item:
> Improvements and fixes to the completion counter: Area completion is affected only by the collectibles and optional challenges present in the area and global completion is affected by area completion, completing all quests, owning every Spirit Shard, and learning all skills from Opher. No longer does simply uncovering parts of the map while exploring impact the completion % of the area, in the interest of not being stuck hunting down the last few nooks and crannies left that have no real significance to the experience
I'd second Hollow Knight and W3 and also throw Ori and the Blind Forest in there. It's visually beautiful, has a pretty good story, and has a massive map that you need to explore through the story. You can move at your own pace and loop back for side objectives once you've acquired more skills, but it's not technically "open world" I guess. Also, Hollow Knight and Ori take less time (and are cheaper) than true open world games like BOTW and W3 so you can use them as breaks in between the larger games.
Look it's Friday and we've gotten a new update, look at that....on a friday:
I'm waiting for a performance patch as the game stuttered so much on my Xbox one S that it was unplayable.
First one had no issues so I was really disappointed when I couldn't really play it on release.
Looks like the next patch may address those issues.
Couldn't care less what you believe to be honest.

Clearly Moon Studios are fixing the game for no reason whatsoever.
Relogging may help in some cases.
But the bug isn't really seen that much (tbh you're the first case).
Please report the bug to the game dev's so they can keep an eye out for it:
To submit a bug to the developers, please visit the official website. Bugs that are only posted on the subreddit might not be seen by the developers.
Yes they are working on a fix. Please check our mainthread about all the buggs/glitches and fixes. That page would have lead you to their official page which is the following:
https://www.orithegame.com/known-issues-bug-status-report/
Which says you they are working on it.
Also stuck on 97% for the energy achievement, along with "completing the game", "purchasing all maps", and "upgrade all shards". Moon Studios is investigating/trying to fix these issues (per their Twitter)... among others. Had got softlocked behind a bug roadblock. thankfully they included the backup save system.
You're not alone, performance is not great even on XB1X. A patch is in the works but I imagine it'll be a case of waiting for several patches before performance becomes good rather than just less bad.
Occasional freezes when the game's loading as well as frame rate drops during combat.
Moon Studios is aware of the issues and should be fixing them somewhat soon. https://www.orithegame.com/known-issues-bug-status-report/
I'll have to check later but I think I do have it enabled. I'm not so much bothered by it showing Xbox controller prompts but it's very weird that what would be RB on Xbox is not bound to my R1 on DS4 but is instead bound to moving the right analog stick to the right (or left, can't remember). I wasn't able to rebind which seems to be a known bug.
Appreciate the reply, Stay Dope.
I wasn’t speaking about just the developers of Ori, but every dev team who still chooses to use Unity as the engine for their games.
The motion issue related to object and camera movement is ancient, at this point, and there’s extensive documentation online from experts, with potential fixes and workarounds.
If those fixed and workarounds aren’t implemented, it’s due to sheer ignorance or lack of will, which can only be excused when coming from small indie studios comprised of only a handful of junior developers (sometimes, only one), and not from a first-party Microsoft developer founded by industry veterans.
In the about section here: https://www.orithegame.com/blind-forest/ it says 'He', but in some dialogue in the first game it says "We told Ori of HER misguided will."
Even the devs don't know Ori's gender
You come off as someone so far up their own ass they might run out of air.

But looking at your post history paints you as maybe 15 years old so that explains a ton.

OP never said it was GOTY OP said we should start game of the year talks...so your reading comprehension is also lacking.

Edit: Since I am sure you are typing out some giant wall of text to make yourself feel better . You have already shown us how you think. Ori was a extremely good game that got a TON of awards from multiple places.

Your age showed the moment you made it clear that stuff you never heard of can not be good. That and you seem convinced this game paid for reviews.

Another edit: Good job getting your post muted. Throwing around the "C" and "F" word and calling names does not help your already poor discussion points.
As stated before, we're talking about a Magic Origins 2.
That said, there is a Ori and the Blind Forest sequel in the works called Ori and the Will of the Wisps that you can pre-order now if you wish.
Thank you for sharing that! Don’t know the difference between being a Microsoft First Party Studio and Microsoft owning them, though. Their own website says they’re the former: https://www.orithegame.com/moon-studios/
Definitely interested to see where things are going.
Unforunately there isn't really anything else quite like Ori that is as good and smooth as Ori. I know what you mean because Ori is my favorite too and I never finished Hollow Knight because it was too slow and too hard.
On the bright side Ori 2 drops next year. Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Probably my most anticipated game in a long time.

If you haven't tried Steamworld Dig 2, you will like that one. It's another one of my favorites.
Yoku's Island Express is another one you'll like, more of a focus on movement, but in this case the movement is pinball. It's good.
