Does the box not allow you to download from Unknown Sources, and grab the app from Amazon's site like you can on mobile (android)?

From what I've read others posting in the recent past (can't test as I'm on 7.0) if you install the Amazon app store, are running 6.0 & not the beta, it supposedly installs from there just fine.
Read that it's in the Google Play Store as of this week as well.
That's actually changed recently. I still haven't moved over to the google store version from amazon store, but every update that takes 3 to 4 days to actually install is a bit more of a push.

But they do sell Alphabet products like Nest... but yea I agree it's annoying. And the reasoning is some kind of competition thing, yet Amazon sells Roku and other devices that competes with their inhouse fire products.
Das mit der Installation der amazon video app war früher wirklich sehr umständlich, inzwischen ist sie aber tatsächlich im PlayStore verfügbar: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
I hate what Amazon has done with Android applications and their own App Store.
It makes every user who installs it vulnerable and every Amazon app requires unreasonable permissions.

Amazon even banned Chromecast from being sold on Amazon.com just because it was a competitor, it's hard to ever forgive Amazon for such sleazy anti-competitive practices.
I uninstalled the IMDB app because it was slow and buggy, so I can't check right now. I checked my Amazon Prime Video app right now, and I can just click the 'Follow' button under any actor or director to follow. I don't subscribe to Amazon Prime. I just have an Amazon account and use the app because I occasionally buy movies and TV series from Amazon (they also have all my MA movies so I can watch from the app). Amazon owns IMDB, so maybe I got confused because the notifications are from IMDB?
Looks like there are separate shopping and prime video apps. Don't know if they share logons but you can try.

It seems like maybe you're using the Fire TV or some other app. Just to be sure, are you using the Prime Video app, here? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
Here's a link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
Following it on the C302 should open it in the Play Store; if there's some issue (e.g. the platform is unsupported), it should say what it is...
My Sony smart TV has a Prime video app. Works fine. In 4K even. Apps are installed via google play store.
This is in Australia so maybe something different there.

The official version works great:
Just need to install to the device from the browser. Other than that fully Android TV compatible with 1080p.
Check out "Amazon Prime Video" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
I'm assuming this is touch interface and needs a mouse. And maybe forced landscape. Good luck!
With Prime you get access to Amazon Prime Video.
Personally I have no use for the Amazon App Store since they dropped the free game offers. Underground isn't available to me in Canada.
EDIT: Apparently Amazon Photo Storage (free with Prime) is really good because it'll store an unlimited number of RAW photo files, whereas Google compresses them. It's also a free Dropbox-style thing, which seems to have better integration on my phone compared to Dropbox or Google Drive (Amazon Storage is always in the "share to" list while the others often aren't).
Play Store Link to update Amazon Prime app
The app is already in the Play Store, it's just not Chromecast compatible.

No word on Chromecast, but
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
It's available for me: link
Edit: I'm in France btw
Looks like they put it back on the play store.
It's available on the play store
I watch it at Amazon Prime Video
I used this one on my tablet: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient&hl=en
The Amazon Prime Video app is in the Play store. Just not compatible with Android TVs yet (like loads of other apps).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
Prime Video is available on the Play Store.
I dislike that I can't cast my echo to my Chromecast audio.
Amazon Prime Video has shown up in google play recently. Try searching for it.
Edit: Here
In Spain I downloaded prime video on the play store

PS what is this btw?? - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
Found it. Not available in the US though I guess.
I found it via the primevideo.com webpage.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amazon-instant-video/id545519333?mt=8
Amazon underground? Dunno what that is, but here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/piv-apk-play
For my phone this worked: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient&hl=en
Unfortunately my Nexus Player shows as not compatible :(
/u/thatoneprivacyguy , good work so far. My observations:
No listing for Hola, warts and all?
Could there also be a notes field, e.g. "VyprVPN is available in a bundle with Giganews"?
Could you also explain which VPN services have an app for iOS, tvOS, Android, Android TV, NAS devices, OpenWRT routers, DD-WRT routers, and pfSense routers?
Are you aware of how any of the above services can be configured for downloading apps in a different country's Play Store?
For instance, Amazon Video 3.0.63.245601 (63245810) from the Japanese Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
the phone and tablet version of Zattoo Live TV 2.6.2 from the Swiss Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zattoo.player (NOT com.zattoo.player.eu)
the Android TV version of Zattoo Live TV 1.6.2 from the Swiss Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zattoo.player (the same listing, but the APK served for Android TV has a different version number)
Hola worked for this around a year ago but, as of February 2016, neither this solution nor http://www.eyeondemand.com/2015/04/17/nexus-player-review/#8 are working for a:
Nexus 5 running Android 6.0.1 MMB29S (1 January 2016), com.google.android.gms 8.4.89 (2428711-438) (8489438), com.android.vending 6.0.5 (80430500) and com.google.android.gsf 6.0.1 (23), or
Nexus Player running Android 6.0.1 MMB29T (1 January 2016), com.google.android.gms 8.4.87 (2476824-876) (8487876), com.android.vending 6.0.2-leanback (80430286) and com.google.android.gsf 6.0.1 (23).
Could you do all of the above for Smart DNS services as well?
> I got... android... Got the Amazon underground app, then amazon video app.
I don't think the Amazon Video app on Android supports Google Cast. BTW, you can get the APK directly here: http://www.apkmirror.com/?s=Amazon+Video (latest version is 3.0.63.245601) or, if you can find a VPN that works on your device to make the Play Store show the Japanese listings, you can install conventionally: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient (and then the app ought to show your given region and language).
To satisfy your original query for viewing Amazon Video on TV, you could use AirPlay to Android TV instead:
iPad +
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amazon-video/id545519333 (US) or
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/amazon-video-uk/id454468674 (UK) +
trade in Chromecast for Nexus Player +
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.waxrain.airplaydmr2
Yep, was kind of like that before they blocked it & C&D'd all their apps from APKMirror, figured now that it's in the Play Store & 'officially' working, they'd have worked that detail out..?
An Air mouse is where it's at anyways (model pending) everyone should've discovered & own one they like by now.
You mean this one from the play store?
