You can format your card either as external storage or adoptable storage. Adoptable will use your SD as internal memory but you won't be able to remove it and put it in another phone, PC to transfer files because of the way it's formatted.
You might alternatively be able use an app like Apps2SD that will let you use a portion of your SD and move your apps to it.
You might also be able to remove unwanted apps connecting your phone to a PC and running ADB commands.
Ps. Your Motorola might be eligible to be rooted opening up extra options to you. Check out the XDA website for your specific model.

I used that. I had to use the "bind folder" function to trick stuff like WhatsApp. On boot, it moves anything in that internal storage folder over to the SD card, then symlinks them.
Try this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.pricealert.apps2sd
A few years ago I used that app to use part of an SD card as internal memory... I bought a tablet with only 8GB of internal memory, which obviously wasn't enough....
So with that app I was able to use a partition of that SD card as internal.memory... it worked very well...
And I remember also trying to use that app :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD
But I forgot if the first one was enough or not... But anyways I was able to do what you wanna do...
Basically you use a partition of the sd card as internal memory
It's a memory issue, the more stops/pkms there are around, the more memory the game requires, the faster the OS will kill the app.
Workaround to make it (sort of) playable is using a swap partion on an class 10 SD card (mine is 2GB).
Used this to partiton/enable swap: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.pricealert.apps2sd
Likely it's the result of people having some mods that interfere with the app, or they just didn't follow the instructions. Another thing is you need root to run the app.
Follow the link2sd guide to the T and take your time. It should work.
Edit: apparently link2sd seems deprecated. I'm sorry if I misinformed you, been a while since I've used it.
This seems like an up to date and supported app:

Latest comments from the dev are pretty recent. Hope this helps
Do you root your phone? If so you can use an app called Apps2SD Pro to shift the great majority if not all of your apps' data to a second partition on your SD card. (This is distinct from Android's native Apps2SD capability which only shifts the Apk and Lib data; Apps2SD Pro can shift all of an app's data, except for Apk data saved to system-reserved memory, to the SD card.)
(Creating the second partition will format your SD card data though, beware of that and back up if you need to. There's also some possible app performance hits to saving the entire app data to an SD card, but I can't say for certain since I tried to buy an SD card with the fastest data transfer rates and my phone wasn't exactly a high-end one to begin with.)
There is a feature in Apps2SD that I use, it makes a partition on your external SD, moves your chosen apps there and whenever I flash a new ROM I just restore/relink them and all the app data etc. Works every time
I had the same problem with other app too. For example sync for reddit, AquaMail, Gallery Apps, and many more which are able to access the sdcard.
I have the feeling that Google broke it again. Had the same problem now with Stock Xiaomi ROM on Android 10, and now with a Custom ROM Pixel+, suddenly the next day nothing worked anymore, before that everything was fine.
Now I used the App App2SD . It has a option to fix the sdcard permissions. But you need root for that or you do it manually (I don't know why the sdcard got suddenly a chmod 644)
I stopped using Titanium backup years ago and instead use a function in the Apps2SD app to restore all my apps, works great for me!
I did a search only the other day for an app lock and didn't really trust any of them.
I already had an app installed on my device for managing apps(linking them to a partition on my sd) and had never noticed that it had a "Hide Apps & Games" function already. Gave it a try and it works!
I don't know if you will need the functionality of the rest of this app, but if you don't find anything you can give it a look.
Better if you root your phone. App2SD is here to help. App2SD provides options for partitioning the SD card and reserve space for installing apps to it. I have used this tool a few years back. Storage is not a problem now a days..

not all apps support moving to sd though, so this probably won't work all that well.
this however, will probably work very well. i used it on my last phone and it was great. took a couple tries to get it up and running(you might have to try advanced mode or something. worked for me) but i had all my apps(literally all of them, i had a ton of apps) on my sd card in no time. i do highly recommend you make a backup before doing this though, since it will have to make a few changes for your phone to redirect all of its apps to the sd card.
this may sound like a pain in the ass but it worked well for me, i turned my old 8gb phone into a 64gb one with this.
also if you're actually gonna try this, get a good sd card. if your sd card dies, you'll lose all the apps and data that you moved to there(as expected). happened to me once, and while it was fine since i didn't lose too much data, it did teach me not to buy cheap cards.
yes, but a a more better way to think of it is that it tells it to save it to the normal place, but the normal place is now on your external storage
check out Apps2SD it can help you mount folders like this easily
Well, if you're Rooted there is the Apps2SD app. It's a bit confusing but it has pretty much every trick in the book, including folder symlinks, SD card partitioning, moving almost any app to SD, and more.
Ah, I see. I don't know if there are any custom ROMs for it out there.
Back in the Froyo - Gingerbread days I used an app called Apps2SD to move apps to the SD card: Free: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.pricealert.apps2sd Paid: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.pricealert.apps2sd.pro It has been a long time since I have had to deal with that, but I think that there were a few apps that only worked on internal memory, but most could be moved to the SD. Apps that required a lot of resources were generally more performant on internal storage though.
There were apps like Set CPU to overclock devices, which could certainly improve performance. That might be risky for some devices though and I am not sure if the app would even support more obscure devices since it probably requires custom specific settings.
Pimp My ROM was an app I used in the ICS days that had lots of root settings for better RAM usage/multitasking/cache-handling/optimizations/etc. Again, I don't know what breadth of devices it supports.
You might want to adjust or turn off animations in developer settings. Sometime locking your launcher in memory makes things feel faster, because it won't have to re-render everything when you switch back to the home screen. That would also mean that you might not be able to hold as many apps in the background without redraws. In general, you might want to stick with older apps (when possible) as they will be optimized for older hardware. Remove any apps that you don't need.
I have an old device that I use as an alarm clock because it has a really loud speaker on it. I had upgraded up to Jellybean, but it ran terribly. I bumped it all the way back down to Gingerbread and it is way more responsive. If you can find even official firmware for it on a previous build of Android, it might be more useable.
Free versions: (pro are better)

Apps2SD have a good thread on XDA forum.
Link2SD is abandoned but runs perfectly at least till Android LP. I haven't tried it on newer versions.
Edit: seems Apps2SD is also not supported anymore since mid 2018. Free is Pro now, read description.
Thread on XDA with some tips to have it running with latest Magisk on last posts: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/apps2sd-partition-sd-card-link-apps-to-t3122919
Right now I'd say my problems have been narrowed down. I've got two people in this thread recommending apps like App2SD Pro and Link2SD. One person informing me about the pros and cons of using the SD Card as Internal Storage.
And one person in another thread recommending to only use the inbuilt "Format as Internal Storage". They also don't recommend partitions.
Edit: All the old questions were answered. Now I have one question:
Was I somehow confusing his app for another? Is it safe to use App2SD Pro?
Edit 2: If I have no use for an app at the moment, can I just move them to Google Drive? If that's the case, I could play most games on Internal Storage, one at a time.
You seem like the best person to ask since you actually use App2SD:

Just what are partitions? I've googled extensively, and yet no one is saying what they are or what they do.
I have 28.96 GB in my SD Card. I have a rooted Samsung Tab E running LineageOS 14.1. Should I do the following if I'm trying to create partitions?
Partition 1: 1-2 GB for music, and formatted as FAT32.
Partition 2: Around 13 GB for apps and games. Formatted as ext4.
Partition 3: Around 13 GB for Roms for Emulators. I don't know what format this would have. PSP roms are .ISO and .CSO. GBA roms are .GBA. And then there's the save files.
Do phones (tablet in my case) not handle partitions well?
Is the person from the other thread right about me overthinking this?
The thing is, App2SD Pro is the only version now. The last update for it was on September 18th, 2018, and it says:
"Upgraded to Pro version
Steps to migrate from Pro version:
1) Uninstall Pro 2) Install Free 3) Restore DB when asked"
In XDA, the developer of App2SD said this on 27th October, 2018:
Before I stumbled onto the XDA Forum Post for App2SD, I thought this thread was talking about it. Now, since the dev seems like a nice guy, I think it might've been talking about some other app.
If I remember correctly, the popups to upgrade were there because otherwise Android would dismiss the app after some time. So something had to be there, otherwise the app would close on it's own.
So I can move apps from Internal Storage to SD Card completely, and then back again? With no problem?
What about storing them on Google Drive, and then back to Internal Storage or SD Card?
You can use one of these three apps to do a transfer to your sdcard, just be careful and read the instructions there first. Searching the app names in XDA will also direct you to guide threads

I've been told link2sd is outdated and nolonger supported someone recommended me apps2sd by Vicky Bonick
If you have a phone with root, install this app I'm pretty sure that developer has the same app for free (with ads) and check the settings, there is an option call "SDFix", I had the same problem and that app already fix my problem. Hope it help :)
Apps2SD is a much more complete and faster version of this. And it's been updated in 2017 unlike Link2SD (I think it was last updated May)
> You don't think streaming is a successful business model?
I did not say that. I said that bandwidth costs money. If you're in an area without WiFi, it will cost you a lot of extra money to stream movies if you don't have an unlimited data plan. Streaming also requires buffering, which is very annoying on a poor connection. You probably can't reliably stream on a phone in 1080p, but you can watch 1080p if it's already stored on your SD card.

> you still have to have a computer to manage & transfer files on the sd card.

For you.
> do you see anyone fiddling with sd cards
No, because the SD cards are inside of the phones. A lot of people use them because they have multiple phones that they use on a regular basis, and they swap the SD card at home before leaving. Others just leave it in at all times because they want the extra storage. SD cards are also great for backups.
