Self advertising, but I made an app specifically for this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
It works by selecting a number of apps that you want to be blocked, as well as a schedule of when the block will be active. While a block is active it cannot be stopped. You can also start a block at any time outside of the schedule if needed.
It doesn't support time limits yet, unfortunately, but it is in development.
For me, cold turkey for computer and Block Apps for mobile has worked out great. The best way to cure internet addiction is to go really cold turkey and kill of everything you don't need for 2 months. After that you can allow yourself to browse, play, whatever for 1 or 2 hours a day and see how it's going.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
It's called Block apps but there are many apps out there like this.
There are loop holes but this helps when you really need to reconsider your actions
for android, there is an application called block in the playstore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block).
you can set an admin password on it, and then set it up so it blocks the youtube application after x minutes. as for browser, you can use a location like qustdio to fully block it in the browser, so he uses the app, which is blocked after the time limit. you can even set this application as administrative, so they cannot delete it. it's a great app for this.
Moin!
>because I have ADHD and the lack of structure after graduating high school sucked
This would be still an issue if social media wasn't part of your problem, and it's probably why you spend so much time on SM. Tiktok and instagram have a lot of media that you consume quickly before moving on to the next quick post. This is like candy to the ADHD brain, which struggles to focus on one thing at a time.
It would not be easy without social media, but it would be easier. I think.

You could try an app that limits your access to certain apps. I use block, which lets you ban apps during certain time frames and also ban apps after you've used them a certain time. The free version is a bit limited, but of all the apps I tried for this, it seemed to have the most reasonable limits. It also has a feature that lets you pause your blocks, but based on my own experience, I strongly suggest you disable that.
I use 'Block Apps:Digital Wellbeing" to schedule blocks for phone apps, and find it useful. It also has a good tracking function. Gives me a report each week of how much time I have spent on each app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
Are you sure you want this? Anyway don't know any free apps, but I use this the most. I actually like to use it to stop apps from autostsrting because Galaxy and apps are ridiculous. Anyway the only way to unblock is restart.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
This also works good, but I can't remember why I prefer the first more, but I did like it better for some reason. Maybe this didn't block the way I wanted im not sure, but its an option.
There are apps and smart device features that allow you to limit the time you can spend on a certain app. I've used Block Apps from the Google play store in the past. You can enable the block after a certain amount of time spent on the app or during certain time frames throughout the day.
You can definitely set hourly usage limits, with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
You can also set multiple "blocks".
Ex:
An hourly limit AND a total daily limit. And other combinations

Tel me if it works for you.
If you still need your phone for some reason, I like to use this app called Block. I couldn't lock up my phone completely because my office number is routed to my personal cell during my WFM days, so I may need it to answer a call.
This app allows you to set up timers and lock yourself out of time-wasting apps (reddit is unsurprisingly one of my blocked apps.) You can set different blocks for different things. I think you might have a limit for how many apps you can block on the free version but I've always done fine with what's free. You can also set it on strict mode where you're not allowed to override it at all, or even uninstall the app, until the timer is up. It'll block notifications too which is nice because I get distracted as soon as I, for example, see my friend sent me a discord message.
I am also addicted on using social media so I decided to look for a useful application that will help me. This app can be helpful to block your app on a specific time (depending on your schedule that you set up). You can download it on Playstore, I'm not sure if it is available on appstore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block&hl=tr&gl=US
That is precisely the app you are looking for.
I like this one: "Block Apps"
It lets you set a schedule by day of week and time of day (combined). It also has a Tasker plugin, which gives flexibility to do a lot more (start a 5 minute block 10 minutes from now).
As far as permissions, it asked for Notification permissions to support some of the functionality related to blocking notificaitons, but I deny that permission and it still works fine for blocking apps. It does require permission to draw on top of other apps (I think that is part of how it prevents you from using them).
Srecno!
Hey man I'm responding to help you and anyone that comes across this. This app Block Apps - Productivity & Digital Wellbeing has a tasker plugin where you can choose from 1 minute to 12 hours. Hope this helps!
I've been using this app called Block, it lets you set times where apps are unavailable to use as well as receive notifications from. It helps me in the morning from staying on my phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
I don't actually use the app anymore. I thought that the app would kick in automatically every night so you're forced to go to sleep. However now that I think about it, that isn't the case.
So I guess it's not necessarily better.
If you want an app that actually forces you to stop using your phone/certain apps, I recommend Block (Android). I use it together with forest and I sometimes hate myself for having the app installed lol
Just take a pragmatic approach to it.
Computer desktop blocker Android app blocker
Set up your schedule so that you can procrastinate with in your limits and reflect it in the blockers, if you follow the saying if you abuse it you lose it (go on YouTube for 2 hours when you only meant to look up one video) then you'll start to get to where you want to be. Best of all these are done by time limits so you can set the blockers for example 9am - 7pm and when bed time rolls around.
Absolutely. I used to have one on my phone and it worked effectively but I haven't needed it recently. I tried a few different apps but the one I liked the best was called Block Apps - More Productivity and Focus.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
this app will block apps for an predetermined period of time https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
AND this app is integrated with tasker (task / plug-in) so you can initiate a block of any group of apps for a specified time period using tasker.
the only thing missing is that tasker cannot remove the block (it has to time out)
I found this for Android: Block Apps.

Works well for YouTube! Not sure if it'll let you save your work before blocking text apps, though.
This sounds so much like me it's crazy. I have recently been super stressed at work but constantly not getting enough done while being knowingly unproductive at the same time. To start, I've started using Block which helps me stay off my phone more, and that has been a small help, but not monumental.
I highly, highly recommend Block Apps - More Productivity--I have tried all of the other options, including appblock, and for me this is the perfect app. Does exactly what you are mentioning in the OP. Perhaps best of all, I discovered the app through this forum (it was his first app, I believe), and dev is very responsive, etc.
Just trying to spread the good word for an app I use almost every day. :)
Little late to reply, but it might still be able to help you. I've been developing an Android app that allows you to schedule and block distracting apps on your phone. It supports Tasker actions (similar to IFTTT, if you have not heard of it yet), so you can start app-blocks remotely. Tasker does cost a small amount of money, but you can hook it up to some desktop programs to automatically kill distractions on your phone. Personally, I used Notify My Android to write a small program for my PC which starts blocking distracting apps with a single button press, but you might find other combinations to work with Tasker that hook up with desktop distraction killers. You can find my app here.
Use a blocker. There is software that can block apps, for example Block Apps for Android, my personal favorite. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
And for PC, I looooove Cold Turkey. If you pay the onetime fee of 25$, you can even schedule blocks, so you could blacklist youtube for 23 hours of the day and only give yourself 1 hour to use it. Or whatever. The free version has timers (so just 1, ongoing block, not a schedule). it works really well.
Clearlock blocks the applications for a certain time period, try adding even clearlock in the blocked application list and voila, you can not unblock the apps during that time.

I personally use this app
simple, effective and hard to gt around I splurged $7 on the premium version
On my old phone I used action dash. But my on my current phone I use an app called block. It does let you use block apps. But I don't personally use that feature, if you do then feel free to use that as well.

Another tip:
This one could take a couple hours to set up, but IMO is so worth it. Basically I went on facebook on a computer to the birthdays page where it shows every single friends birthday. (I think it is under events, if you poke around you'll find it). I also went into my address book and memory bank. Then I got this automated texting app to schedule texts to everyone who I cared abouts birthday on their birthday. Often times, I think of an inside joke or a meaningful message or a pun to go along with it. For extra close people it sent a notif to call instead. The results have been amazing!! I get to have contact with people but I don't have to spent time on social media and don't even have to be on my phone all time to text them. I can even set the texts to renew yearly if I want.
This automated texting also is great for other things. Like reminders to people and other events. I'm sure there are other apps out that might even be better.

As for going out in public. I don't drive currently so usually somone else picks me up. So I don't need a phone for directions and I'm in a safe area. For example, today I went to church without my phone and then a group of us went out to lunch afterwards. I was with other people the whole entire time. They all had phones with them if happen to need to contact someone. Plus we were busy being engaged with church and lunch not much downtime. I wasn't expecting any texts or calls. If you think logically about it there really is no reason I needed to have my phone with me, so I left it at home, as I do most Sundays for church now. I think most of us just default to bringing our phones places and don't even stop and think "what good reason do I have to bring my phone?" because for me once I do that I realize I have no good reason.
Idk I just managed. I started small like going to the apartment next door without my phone. Over time there were more and more situations where I didn't need my phone. It helps that I don't drive though. If you drive you might have to keep your phone in your car but if the area isn't safe this might not be an option. Another thing which I have done before but don't really do much anymore. Instead of leaving your phone at home take it with you. But it is powered completely off. You turn it on only if you need it.
If you want message me. I have a lot more tips and tricks I could share. I've spent years researching this. Sometimes I think it is funny how I'm addicted to making tech less addicting.
I'm pretty much the same but when it's crunch time I try to isolate myself in an environment where the only thing I have left to do is my assignments by using some apps. For PC I use Cold Turkey and for my phone (android) I use Block Apps. I use the premium versions for both of them and imo they work the best from everything I've tried but it's pretty easy to find free apps which provide similar functionality. If you got firefox, Leechblock is pretty decent as well.
I will mention though it doesn't promote healthy habits and after using these for most of my degree I wish I picked up how to study without making the last few days something's due hell for myself. It works for the short term but would not recommend for the long term.
Worked for me in Calculus, I used this one after trying a lot of different ones.
I used Block Apps during my JEE prep, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block&hl=nl&gl=US
I really like this one
For Android, that is the best block-app i've ever seen. No apps could be better than it.
This apps is good
This is my favorite app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
I use Block Apps which has an option to prevent uninstalling the app while the block window is active.
Try Block app..It's pro version is just amazing
Here's the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
It's okay! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
That's the link for the app. Have a amazing day!
I don't think it's possible. If you're on Android, try this app. It blocks apps and you can't bypass it.
Sure, it's called Block Apps and here is the link on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wverlaek.block
I use Block Apps, which is good for limiting time in certain apps, and also limiting my ability to use my phone during certain times. (eg. I have all timewasters set to not work between 9pm and 6am. I also only get 1 hour per timewaster app (insta, certain games, my browser etc)).
