I just hate this two ports.. i really really preffer the style of 1,2 and 4 on psp, it wast just nice 2d. This looks like it was made on rpg maker..
It's just amazing all around. The story, the music, the characters, the combat system/graphics (for its time). It ports pretty well to android, though it took a bit to get used to the moving portraits in combat.
But seriously, you literally explore the world twice (before and after Armageddon). Each character (12 total) had a backstory ( some of them were heart-wrenching, e.g. Doma/Phantom Train) and had their own 'quirk' in combat.
Also, one of the characters pile drives a locomotive.
here's the link to the old one:

if you had previously bought it, you can install it from there
if you didn't previously buy it, it'll say page not found
If you loved FFIX and Chrono Trigger, try Final Fantasy VI
There ate two directors of FF6, one of whom directed FF9, and the other co-directed Chrono Trigger, so if you enjoyed those games, I think there's something for you to enjoy here.
> mobile premium
>original RPG
You're gonna have to loosen your requirements. Most of the mobile RPG scene shifted to the f2p market because mobiles games have long since "won" the race to the bottom. the only paid options are essentially ports of console games, like FF6 or Disgea (and if your thoughts are "$15 is expensive for a phone game": yes, that is exactly why the f2p market prospers).
I can't remember the last original premium RPG outside of the Chaos Rings series, back in 2011.
It was released in 1994 on the SNES as Final Fantasy 3. In the global market we live in, it is called by it's original japanese title on google play store: Final Fantasy 6.

Ff6 is the better 2d final fantasy. It's just a spectacular game
Next up is ff4, then ff5
Chrono trigger is also so, so good
FF6 and CT should set you up

There's actually a FF6 port on android!

Some people don't like these versions of the sprites, but everything else is improved and the UI is completely remade for touch!
It works better than you might expect honestly. However the "joystick" design gets a bit frustrating. You tap the screen, and move it as if it's a joystick. However, it isn't stationary, it dynamically moves based on your initial finger placement... so I've found myself going the wrong direction sometimes. I have to admit though it's probably 50% a matter of me needing to get used to it too.
Here's their links for FFVI:
Bear in mind too that a few of the earlier FF's, FFVII, and FFIX are also all available. I hear the FFVII port is a bit awful on Android at the moment though.
they follow the JP names. It's that way in the US and I'm 99% sure the same will be true in any country.

thats the one that was FF III when it was released in the US on SNES
If you like wilderness games, I recommend Cabelas Big Game Hunter.
My favorite game of all time though is Final Fantasy 6. This game introduced me to the series in depth.
You can buy it for $8 and it works on Android
>Still waiting for that ff6 remake.
Because that never happened.
Yep. Here's the page for the Android version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFVI
They fixed it back in January:

If you're alright with JRPGs, might I recommend Final Fantasy VI?
It's sadly fairly light on tactics, but it makes up for it with a fantastic plot and amazing characters (and there are a decent amount of them, all handled remarkably well).
The thing with this game is that it doesn't have a main character per se. Throughout the game, you are made to cycle through a bunch of different party members, while experiencing the plot through their eyes.
A game closer to what you've asked for could be Valkyrie Profile.
I haven't personally played through the game myself so I won't be able to talk much about it but I will, however, say that it is praised by many for its incredibly mature storyline.
....Oh, wait, I think I can recommend one final game. Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes (wow, that's a mouthful). I can't find it on the Play Store, so I've linked the Steam storepage; but it has been released on both iOS and Android as well.
There is an FF6 remake. It tools terrible though.

You never played any Final Fantasy?
FF6, FF7, FF9 are the top 3 "classic" FF
FF6: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFVI
FF7: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFVII
FF9: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.FFIXww.android_googleplay
How does the Android version compare to GBA / SNES?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFVI&hl=en_US
Edit: Why the downvotes??? My today's standards this definitely looks bad... or did i get the wrong game https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFVI
Relive the classic: http://store.steampowered.com/app/382900/ (also available for Android and iOS)
The game originally released as Final Fantasy III in the US is actually the sixth game in the main series. Square Enix has been releasing updated ports of older Final Fantasy games and they're not half bad.
Re-release and remake are two different things. AFAIK, it was only remade once, and that was for the mobile release. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFVI&hl=en_US
