Only a few screens for now, what does everyone think?
Edit: if the dev does happen to see this, i based it mostly on the Google Play Movies + TV app, highly recommend as a source of inspiration for a faithful Leanback based Movie/TV app UI.
It actually is. Look up Google TV in the app store. It'll replace Google Play Movies

The old remote app will stop working once the Android TV Remote Service app is update 5.0 which is what happen to your MiStick.
You need to use the new remote feature which is available in this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos
After install, to access the new remote:-
1. On Google TV app, via Qucik Settings Tile or in app remote icon
2. On Google Play Movies & TV app, only via Quick Settings Tile
You will need to add the remote tile to Quick Setting first.

If you're using the old Android TV remote app then it will stop working once the Android TV Remote service app on your TV is updated to version 5.0.
You can use the new remote app available in both Google TV or Google Play Movies & TV
To access the new remote:-
1. On Google TV app, via Qucik Settings Tile or in app remote icon
2. On Google Play Movies & TV app, only via Quick Settings Tile
You will need to add the remote tile to Quick Setting first. If it's not available, then update the app to version 4.28.48
> They clearly broke Google's rules
No they haven't. Google says you're not to infringe someone's copyright. Fair use means you're not infringing. That's the point - and plenty of apps on the store use thumbnails or pictures of copyrighted works. Unless you want to tell Google that they're in violation of their own terms.
On Android mobile, the new remote feature is only available in Google TV(Google Play Movies & TV) app.
While On iPhone/iPad it will be available in Google Home app in future.

There is a Google TV app on the appstore :

Just tried this and it worked for me so hopefully this will work for you but you will need Android mobile:
1. Install Google TV app on your mobile: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos
2. On your mobile add the remote tile to Quick Settings. Refer: https://m.imgur.com/a/OkfLvwM
3. Turn ON both Bluetooth and Location(can be OFF once connected to your device)
4. Make sure Location permission is granted for the Google TV app
5. Open the remote app from the quick settings TV Remote tile
Now the app will scan for nearby Android TV device. If successful, it will list your Shield TV device.
Shield TV app used to be able to connect via Bluetooth but now it only work via WiFi/Ethernet.
I've experienced same issue and for text input i always prefer Google/Android TV remote app.
If you're using Android phone, then you can use the new remote feature available via Google TV or Google Home
For iOS user, you'll need to uninstall Android TV Remote Services on Shield TV to use back the old Android TV remote app but i'm not sure if this trick will work after recent Shield Experience 9.0 update.
Can you send a screenshot of where in Google Home they added keyboard access?
Maybe you're thinking of the updated Google TV app. This was recently updated to include the TV remote. This also lets you include the TV Remote as a notification tile, similar to the device controls notification tiles.
The app that worked for me was this one. It paired quickly using onscreen code and then I was able to do what OP suggested. Thank you 😊 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos

Google TV is the new Android TV Interface. You are talking about the App Google Play Music & TV (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos) I didn't find an App named exactly Google TV so i am not sure what you are saying
You might be thinking of the Google TV app. This shows a selection of videos across various supported streaming services.
The closest to an actual Chromecast app is the Google Home app. This is what is used to set up Chromecast, for example. I don't think it's what you want though, as it doesn't have a video browsing feature.
Have you tried the Google Play Movies Android app from the Play Store as an alternative? I think Family Link accounts can't install extensions unfortunately.
Nope, also replacing Play Movies
>I used to be able to use the Andoid TV app to control my TV, but not anymore. It cannot discover my TV. I am on the same Wi Fi hot spot.

For iPhone, refer here for workaround(but will still need remote to navigate): https://redd.it/q0o3np0
Are you using the remote from the Google TV Android app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos
I'm in the same boat - I have a Control4 automation system so Bluetooth control is of no help to me.
One possibility (for me anyway) might be to use something like https://github.com/Greg-MM/C4-AndroidTV that talks to the Bell box using the Android TV protocol.
Can someone /u/Hugedownload maybe?) with the new Bell box see if it's possible to control it using the Google TV app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos) and the Android TV Remote Service (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tv.remote.service)?
Hopefully the latter is built-into the Bell box already.

It's an app.
Android TV used to be called Google TV, confusingly.
As far as making it easier to copy paste links. Install the Google TV app on your phone, it's on IOS and Android. This will let you use you're phone as a remote and you can copy and paste links into input fields via the Google TV app.

Came here to say this. Just use the official Google TV app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos
The Google movies TV app has the remote now you can find a shortcut to it in your quick access panel after setup https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos
On phone>> Google TV or Google Play Movies & TV
On Android TV>> Android TV Service Remote v5.0
That sucks... Have you tried the app?
They already used that shape for the new Google TV
Google Play Movies will updated to Google TV on us as I received an email today.
Also on US Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos
That's literally what the movies app does...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos
No idea whether this would make any difference, but do you have Google Play Movies & TV installed?
The first two sreenshots are from US Play Movies & TV app on an Android phone. The third image is from US Play Store for the Google TV app replacing Play Movies app.
