What is Reddit's opinion of Minecraft?

Duck Tales is okay. More of a nostalgia factor if you played it years ago on console. If you didn't it may not stand up as well for you.

I don't get it. The Play store listing doesn't specifically list any supported devices, and the search on the Mojang support site is seemingly useless in that regard.

So by default, I'd assume that ALL Android devices are supported. Is this just a case of a customer support person not knowing that Chromebooks are now Android devices?

To play on an actual server, or with someone else over the internet would require a different platform.

Your cheapest option would probably be a budget tablet and the edition of Minecraft specifically designed for tablets - originally called "Minecraft: Pocket Edition" but now just called "Minecraft". You buy it via the Google Play store.

This Edition of Minecraft has some Mojang-endorsed servers associated with it. However, it is up to you as a parent to supervise your child while online - these servers are moderated, but they are not babysitters.

As ever, the internet is not a safe place for unsupervised children.

If i go to the Play Store via the browser then it says incompatible with my r11 which is a shame as it would be perfect.

(I'm trying an APK extractor to see if that works, will report back shortly).

Ok..that was a few hoops to jump through. I got the apk off my phone via an Android app called "MyAppSharer", on the initial install (which I could do via Solid Explorer), it crashed my r11 but after rebooting, I ran the installation again and it worked. It took about 45 seconds to generate a world and playing around quickly, it's a little bit laggy but then I do have quite a few tabs open.

Overall, easily playable and I'm happy with it.

I just checked the Google Play version and it says it was updated Sep 9, 2015.

I'm assuming the GPlay version has it too. I haven't bought it yet so I can't confirm.

You won't find it listed as "Minecraft: Pocket edition" on the play store anymore. It's simply listed as ""Minecraft" and, as described below, uses the "Bedrock" engine whereas traditional Minecraft uses Java. There are still some limitations and differenced between versions, and it is important when watching detailed "how-to" videos and the like to be sure it is compatible with your version. There are certain block interactions that do not occur in Bedrock edition, and vice versa.

Also, running Java edition on a phone I find to be pretty hit or miss as let's face it, it isn't supposed to be done. A worthy solution that I found is Geyser MC in combination with MCPE.

No, that is not Minecraft (you're looking for this one). That's one of the many Minecraft clones out there, made by a third-party developer who hopes to piggyback off of Minecraft's popularity.

I don't think you'll find anyone here who knows the exact differences between that game and the real Minecraft. These games tend to have only a fraction of the content Minecraft has though. It likely doesn't have a way to export worlds or creations to Minecraft either.

That’s not how ratings for games work. And regarding exploits, how could they possible exploit an iOS device through a stream? That’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read today.

But again, for argument sake, if it was possible to exploit the device through a stream, Microsoft’s track record would say they are quite secure. How many exploits do you know of to jailbreak an Xbox one? And how many do you know to jailbreak an iOS device? Apple wins by like 10-0.

Modern Chromebooks are capable of running Android apps so you should be able to run the Android version of Minecraft.

You’re dumb, it is the literal opposite – POCKET AND W10 EDITION ARE THE SAME THING. Read the description of this subreddit. It says “all things Bedrock codebase” – Minecraft W10 Edition is Bedrock codebase.

By the way, while we’re at it, there’s no such thing as “MCPE” anymore. If you look at the App Store or Google Play page, there’s absolutely no mention of a “Pocket Edition”. It’s just Minecraft.

Did you get that officially from Google Play? Because the version there (which is the only official version for Android) is $6.99. If you got it for free from some random website, that's illegal and morally wrong, as well as being a security risk.

Like u/Face_Plant_Some_More said, and there's no "not exactly" about it, Android just isn't a supported guest in VirtualBox. I'm not surprised you're having issues and I doubt there's much anyone can do to remedy the problem for you short of actually building in the features to add proper support for Android. Frankly I'm amazed you even got the system to boot.

That being said, ever since the "Better Together" update Minecraft for Windows 10 has been the same version as Minecraft for Android (known as "Bedrock Edition") and you can play together from any platform and all of your purchases are tied to your Microsoft account. You're going to have a lot easier time just buying the Windows 10 version and using that.

Sorry, that is just wrong. There is no Bedrock Edition. Bedrock is the codename for the MCPE code-base which is used on on multiple platforms. Currently the platforms include: Windows 10, XBox One, Android, iOS and OS X. Note that the only Bedrock client on OS X is Minecraft EDU.

With the exception of Minecraft EDU, the official name for the clients that use the Bedrock codebase is simply Minecraft. As confusing as it is, the official names for the Bedrock based clients on the different platforms do not include the platform in the name.
