You should try Today Calendar it has a friendly user interface, unfortunately the dark theme option is only available if you buy the pro version, but you should definitely give try, before deciding to buy it.
I personally like using Today Calendar. You can set the widget to show one day, one week, or up to one year (with other increments in between). You can set the theme of the widget from dark, light, or material. I highly recommend that you take a look at it!
There's the free version of Today if you want to try it out first: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.underwood.calendar_beta
Then I'm fairly sure the free version of Nova can do dynamic icons as well. The Today app is the only one I've seen use that feature.
The icon changes to the current calendar day.
I haven't heard of any weather app doing similar, but that would be interesting, if there was one that had maybe the temperature and weather of the following hour encased neatly in the icon.
Popup Widgets is also an interesting way to have widgets tucked away as shortcuts: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
Combining it with Nova is brilliant. For example, swipe down on the home screen to open the calendar widget, swipe down for a weather widget, etc.
I've got it so pressing Home button on the home screen opens up the calendar widget and various notes.
You could also make it so swiping up on the Calendar icon opens the widget, and things like that.
Today Calendar has a customisable widget which you can make transparent. It's also a really good calendar app.
Nostalgia time: I remember using Pure Calendar Widgets back in the day.
Yep, this is it. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.underwood.calendar_beta I've used it for a couple years now, ever since I saw it in one of his previous videos, but it's been broken on Android 8 since release -_-
i haven't used it in awhile, but i think it's Today Calendar. i'm pretty sure you can make the background transparent to look like that, although i could be wrong.

edit it is Today Calendar, and the dev hasn't updated it since 2016. this is a classic example of the risk you take with throwing your money down the drain with a dev that might just stop updating whenever he/she wants.
Today Calendar is a personal favorite. It has a screen (that can be default) that shows your daily agenda on the bottom half and the month on the top half.
You're shadowbanned, please talk to the admins over in /r/shadowban about it! Any time you post you'll have to be manually approved by that subreddit's mod team.
I also highly suggest Today Calendar if you're looking for some gorgeous calendar widgets. ;)
tap the month name at the top....but otherwise, no.
today calendar does this though, and syncs with Google. he's also working on updating the app, or replacing the app with a new one since the current one is "a mess to update"
they removed this quite some time ago....i think it was when google re-designed the app.
though, according to this article, they are preparing to being the functionality back.
in the mean time, if you REALLY want this, Today calendar does just this....sync's with google calendar and has this functionality.
The actual calendar app I use is Calendar Today https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.underwood.calendar_beta
As for the widget it's Month Calendar Widget https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.candl.chronos
Calendar widget - Today
Time/weather widget - Weather Timeline
Wallpaper - from Google's own wallpaper app, under the Landscapes category
Icons - Pixel 2
Maybe I don't follow what you're saying but my calendar app Today works perfect fine with both calendar invites from my office365/exchange and Google
Today Calendar for Android.
It has superior views and widgets to Google's Calendar app. I also prefer the way it handles calendar entries over Google's.
Try today calendar https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.underwood.calendar_beta
I'm going to interpret this as "what other writer do you really respect or look up to?" because that's a good question.
Liam Spradlin from Android Police is awesome. He writes great design-focused stuff on AP and on Dadapixel, his personal blog, that I really learn a lot from. Stuff like "Why fuzzy geometry sometimes works in visual design" talks about why pixel-perfect stuff isn't always the right way to do something, and has changed the way I look at design "imperfections" that I used to complain about. And "Yes, Your Brand Can Survive A Material Redesign" is great stuff about branding from someone that thoroughly studied the Material Design stuff.
And he's a professional app designer now, taking over the UX of Today Calendar and Nova Launcher, so you're getting design writing from someone that really knows what they're talking about.
It's actually the widget for Today Calendar. I put it on my phone after seeing his last video like this.
That's Today Calendar. And you can see that animation on your phone as well.
Today Calendar seems like it might be pretty close.

I've moved the apps on the bottom up a little and moved the name with the weather up as well. (changes are une the zip file). Any feed back would be great! =)
Stupid bot, that's just the unlocker. Here's the regular version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.underwood.calendar_beta
There's a trial here if you want to try it out for yourself.

It's today calendar.
Today Calendar is a small step in that direction

> Today Calendar
Link for Lazy. I'll try it out.
Today calendar provides a similar view but unfortunately it's not been updated in years.

Today Calendar is what you're looking for. You can sync multiple calendars as well if you want.
Today Calendar- it is so much simpler and easier to use when compared to Google Calendar!
So far Today Calendar is the "best"one I've found. Really don't like the updates to google calendar/stock calendar.
Today Calendar is really nice.

My favorite replacement app (after trying many) on Android was Today https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.underwood.calendar_beta
Calendar and to-do's:
Today Calendar 4.3/5.0
Todoist 4.4/5.0
Notes, docs and storage:
Evernote 4.6/5.0
Google Drive 4.3/5.0
I believe it is this one sadly does not sync with outlook calendar
Today Calendar lets you pick the calendars to show. Maybe this can be configured to your liking.
Today calendar is the way to go! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.underwood.calendar_beta
It's Today Calendar, got some really nice widgets, but you'd need the pro version to keep using it.
Too little, too late. I invested in Today Calendar and never looked back.
I don't know if it's open source, but Today is a pretty awesome calendar. I believe the dev is a redditor.
