I recommend Velociraptor. It's a great, little open source app that displays an overlay with your current speed (and optimally speed limit) whenever Google Maps is open.
It really sucks that at need an extra app for this. I don't trust my car's analogue speedometer and much prefer having a digital one right on my map next to the speed limit.
I'm in the UK and I use Velociraptor to get speed limit display on Google Maps. You can set it so it only appears when navigating.

On Android, velociraptor works pretty well. Open street map data source isn't very good near me, but I'm trying to submit improvements and using one of the paid sources in the meanwhile.
Or use this.
IAP is for support for open street maps.
I use Velociraptor because it overlays on Google maps and ties into speed limits based on roads and areas. It's pretty excellent, and let's you enable audio alerts based on custom overages etc.
It's rumored to be coming, but if you want it now (on Android anyway) use an app called Velociraptor. Adds a speed limit and current speed overlay to Google Maps.
It pulls its data from https://www.openstreetmap.org, which you can even edit if they do not have your area mapped correctly.
Velociraptor-Map Speed Limit - small overlay on Google Maps/Navigation that shows the speed limit of the road you are on as well as your current speed based on GPS.
There's an app I've been using for years before google added speed limits called Velociraptor that can float at all times.
Looks like the recent spate of negative reviews are because it stopped working for some people but it's never given me any problems whatsoever.
The strange thing is that if I let AutoInput click on the menu item specified by name or ID several times, it works most of the time. This shouldn't be the case if the ID changes, should it? I tested it with three or four clicks at the ID and it worked just fine most of the time. But only if I start the task by hand. If I scan my NFC tag it drops to about 50%. Which is quite annoying since I am not able to reproduce the behavior.
The number inside the brackets (index of array) can be found out just by counting the menu items?
I tried changing the text, but still it does not work reliably. And again, there is no reproducible behavior. I just run the task over and over again without any changes but the results differ.
Yes, it is a free app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pluscubed.velociraptor It would be so nice of you if you would take a look at it. Maybe you can find something I didn’t.
> trying to get a device to beep when I'm above the speed limit
Maybe try velociraptor on Android. You might have to add some of your streets to OSM or pay a small subscription for the speed data from somewhere else.
I wish for that too. But for now I use Velociraptor although it uses openstreetmap database.
Could somebody recommend better app that provides proper overlay and takes data from Google maps?
Having used TomTom for years on old devices before I moved to Android, always wondered when Google Maps was going to implement speed limits. Until then, Velociraptor is God sent.
Velociraptor has been around a few months for Google Maps and works well for those that don't have it yet https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pluscubed.velociraptor You can choose how the speed limit looks too so it matches the signs in your country
Check out Velociraptor: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pluscubed.velociraptor
It displays a small overlay on Maps that will show you the posted speed limit and your current speed underneath. Someone commented "WTF do you need this for". I found it very useful when driving in rural areas and the signs aren't totally noticeable.
Velociraptor. It acts as an overlay on google maps and I think here or wake but it tells you the speed limit on each road and how fast you're going

It has its fair share of complaints but I used to use Velociraptor and it worked pretty well.

Try velociraptor. It is free from the play store. It overlays the speed limit on the Google maps app.
Try Velociraptor!
I use an app called Velociraptor and it works well for me.
I use Velociraptor. Works really good with AA and Google Maps.
Velociraptor - Floating Speed Limit Monitor
Just a simple tool until Google adds speed limits to Google Maps.
GitHub (issues, feature requests)
Anticipate - Custom Tabs Browser Tool
Try velociraptor.
There are multiple apps that will place an overlay with your speed and the speed limit. Velociraptor like /u/steajano pointed out. Personally I use TomTom Speed Cameras, previously I used Speed Cameras by Sygic.
Use this it will...https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pluscubed.velociraptor
I use an app called Velociraptor that overlays speed limit and shows your speed on Google Maps/Android Auto.
Check out Velociraptor as a work-around.
