Try YAATA. Its very customizable and is being updated regularly.
Yaata is extremely customizable. The bulk of the features are available for free. If you like it, of course, you can perform an in-app purchase to unlock the premium features like scheduled messaging , night mode etc.
Speaking of little known YAATA sms messaging. It has many customization for a sms app. This app isn't in my radar until it was suggested here in reddit. Tried it and bought the premium after trying it for a couple of hours.
If you want to be able customize virtually everything about your text app - especially the UI - try Yaata. It's been reliable for me for years.
If you want to try your hand at customizing:
If not, then stick with the stock messenger
After trying many third party SMS apps due to the baffling absence of delivery reports on the stock SMS app on my phone, I settled on YAATA. It has too many useful features to list all of them, but a few are delayed sending of texts, auto respond/forward based on several rules, direct reply/mark as read/delete from the notification etc.
In what way? I use dark mode, and don't need any of the extras that some of the others offer. I did use YAATA for some time, but realized that a) I didn't really need or use any of the custom stuff, b) it seemed slower, and c) didn't offer texting from the web (I used Join to accomplish this).
There are messaging apps that will automatically read texts aloud to you, which should work through your headphones. I think YAATA does this, though I'm not sure if it's a free feature. OutLoud is an app that will read notifications to you from another app of your choice. There are definitely others.
Consider trying a different text app?

Is a good one that has apn info you can enter into the app.. Adjust time between sending etc... It has a small learning curve but works with pretty much all carriers...
It's super light and customize able, you can use it free or pay for premium features. It has the options to retrieve MMS automatically, on a specific network, or disable them entirely. It has light and dark modes available. Plus it's a bit lighter on space than Textra. I love Textra but the one big thing keeping me from using it is that it lacks the archiving feature.
I really liked YAATA when I had my Nexus 6p, but it feels a bit sluggish on my Moto Z Play.
Stock Android Messages seems the way to go now.
YAAYA SMS has delayed sending. I use it for delayed sms to the morning crew at work so they get info as soon as their shift starts and not when they are in bed when I am leaving work.
Yes it has bubbles as an option (on by default I am sure but forget the default settings)

I've used many texting apps including Textra, Google Messenger and the default app, but my favorite is YAATA. Free, super light and fast, and it supports text bubbles like Facebook messenger. Edit: Here is the Play Store link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata
On T-Mobile, I turned on Airplane mode and then enabled wifi. Sent a text through Yaata, and it was successfully sent/received on the test phones.
Not sure if it will work on Verizon's network the way they have it set up, but it does on T-Mobile.

It has exactly what you want, since I also need it. It's fairly unknown for some reason, but DEV is a frequent XDA user. Has pretty much what all the other messengers have.
YAATA is an excellent (and somewhat unknown) SMS/MMS app.
YAATA has many filter options you can apply to a conversation to quickly find specific content. (Eg: filter to only show MMS.)
When I filtered by MMS it gave me only images and attachments from that conversation. I think that's what you're after 😉 YAATA - Play store
Maybe I didn't understood well sorry I think you're looking for a SMS/MMS app right ? If yes try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata
It has inapp purchase for extra features
YAATA is arguably the most customizable SMS app available, and just an all-around solid app, imo. Worth checking out at the very least
>YAATA - favorite & most customizable SMS app available
Been using textra and looking for a change. Anyone have any thoughts about yaata? Hoping for a 3rd party messenger with textra configuration but Google new messaging technology (rts iirc?)
It looks like YAATA. Basically that's just a third party SMS app like Textra, or Android Messenger. You use that instead of the built in one for texts.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata&hl=en
But I can't be certain because while everything looks exactly the same except for the position of the bubble's tail. YAATA has options for different icons though.
YAATA can also display the time they sent and the time you received the message. It also supports MMS for group chats so it should satisfy both requests, as well.
YAATA allows you to block SMS from those numbers. Long press on a message you want to block, then the block option is in the three dot menu.
Edit: I just remembered that blocking messages is a premium feature. Sorry about that. I still suggest you give the app a try though as it's a great replacement for the stock app.
YAATA has a floating bubble mode and I love the feature where you can set it a have a different notification for advertisers and carriers
There's a really good texting app called yaata. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata While in the conversations list, hold down on his text and it will select it. Then, go in the right corner and click the menu button (3 stacked dots), and you should see an option to block it. Any texts from the blocked numbers will be stored in the "blocked" tab, in the main menu, if you needed them for evidence. That menu can be accessed by tapping the 3 horizontal lines on the left top corner, while in the conversation list.
In case you wanna give it a whirl. What's nice is you can have them (your SMS) pop in like Facebook Messenger did (or maybe still does IDK) which allows you to reply straight away without having to open the app itself. Quite useful in those quick back-to-back conversations.
> I for one actually like the messenger app and have it set as my SMS app. Mainly for chat bubbles.
Yaata is a SMS app with chat bubbles functionality
I've been using Yaata for a while now and it suits me well. It's super customizable. If you have a really specific need or look that you're going for with your SMS app, Yaata likely has it. Apparently some have had stability issues with it, but I haven't had so much as a hiccup in the 6 months or so that I've been using it.
YAATA is great. I feel like I've tried every SMS app, and this one is a keeper. Extremely flexible and customizable. Get notifications and quick-reply with pop-ups, floating windows, or chat-heads. You can specify settings per-contact, or based on the state of your phone. Send scheduled messages, auto-forward and auto-respond. Just pretty much everything you'd ever want while still remaining small and light with no bloat. It takes a while to set up because it has so many options, but once you configure it to your liking it's perfect!

YAATA blows Textra out of the water. It's simply amazing. Incredibly customizable
YAATA is another one that is extremely customizable.
I like YAATA.
If you're willing to fiddle with settings, YAATA can be customized to look exactly how you want it.
I use Yaata, most of the functionality is free.
I find YAATA to be much better than both (with chatheads enabled). Are you evaluating this as well?
YAATA is by far the most customizable one (that I know of).
Here's a link for ya for whenever
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata
It's under other notifications in the settings. This is also just a great app overall
YAATA has contact-specific notification options.
YAATA has a autoresponder to messages, missed calls, rejected calls, etc...

I used Yaata for a while but came back to Textra because I can receive MMS over wifi without issue.
YAATA will do this.
As a temporary measure you could install either YAATA or QKSMS and Call Control, they're the best apps I've found for blocking SMS spam. YAATA will let you block all unknown numbers and non-numeric addresses (email), and you can choose whether it keeps the messages or deletes them automatically. It costs $3 to unlock the blocking, but if all you're getting is spam from phone numbers it's worth the cost.
If you start getting SMS spam from emails, then QKSMS and Call Control is your best option. YAATA doesn't block spam from emails properly, even with the non-numeric blocking turned on. QKSMS is free, though you might have to pay $3 to unlock QKSMS+ so you can use it with Call Control. It's been almost a year since I bought it so I don't remember if the free version integrates with Call Control.
Call Control isn't free and I'm still in the trial period, so I don't know how much the free version will block. It costs $30 a year or $10 quarterly for the premium version; so far they've given me two seven day trials so you'll have enough time to make sure it works for you. It does an excellent job at blocking email spam; unfortunately I don't see an option to block texts from unknown numbers. It does require creating an account to use and it wants you to set it as the default phone and caller ID app, though it works fine for blocking SMS spam even if you disable its call blocking and don't set it as your phone app.
If you start getting spam calls, Call Blocker is the best option I've found. It lets you setup either a blacklist or a whitelist, and it also lets you block hidden and international calls. It also lets you block all calls except for people in your contact list. The best part about Call Blocker is that when it blocks a call all it shows you is a notification, you don't have to deal with an incoming call and a pop-up warning you about the call like you would with an app like Call Control. If it gets bad enough, you can set the blocked call notification to "Other" and "Minimized" and all you'll see is a one-line notification in your "Other notifications" section.
I wish SMS blocking on Android worked like it does on iOS, as you can install an SMS blocking app without having to replace your entire texting app. For anyone on iOS VeroSMS is what I've used for other people. It's one of the few apps I found that was a one-time purchase and also let you block certain keywords along with unknown numbers and email addresses.
Hopefully one of these apps works for you. They've been very helpful in dealing with the spam calls and texts I've received after I got a recycled phone number that I didn't want to change.
YAATA is my personal favorite.
I personally like YAATA the most, as it's got lots of features & it's the most customizable SMS app available
Check out YAATA

YAATA (Yet Another Android Texting App) ](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata) supports has it. It's called chatheads.
What article, what kind of messages are we talking about? If SMS, my choice is YAATA - SMS/MMS messaging, if icq - Mandarin IM, if the best modern instant messenger, then - Telegram
YAATA can do this, but only one that is shared across all conversations, I believe.
If I remember correctly, Mood Messenger and Textpert can also do this.
YAATA lets you do this.
Aahh. I thought he meant those floating chat-head things, like YAATA has.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata&hl=en
paid part mind you
If you don't like Textra or Messenger try this.

WIBration... YAATA sms
Just use Yaata SMS, you can create those scheduled messages.
YAATA SMS (Google Play, apk) new but user-friendly, You can personalize and configure this app to your definition of the perfect app
Textra SMS, i needn't talk about this app, many people recommended this app already.
EvolveSMS (Text Messaging), this is a great app, an alternative for Textra. (Google Play, apk)
I can get pretty close with Yaata.
Have you tried YAATA?
Yep. The absence of Yaata SMS in the spreadsheet makes it useless.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata has chat heads.
>This is not the tweak fest I was hyped about
You should try YAATA if you want a tweak fest.
YAATA SMS has good support for automatic forwarding, and it's also a great texting app in general.
Yaata. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata&hl=en Surprised no one has posted that yet.
Very feature rich with tons of tweaking options, active development with an XDA thread and works great with the S7. Works great with wifi calling too. I can send/receive sms/mms while on airplane mode with wifi on and of course, wifi calling enabled.
One of the options I like is that if my screen is on, I get no popup notification, but I do get a popup otherwise. Endless customization like that.
After using it for two weeks now, YAATA SMS gets my recommendation, big time!
In the past, I've used:
YAATA just beats them all in my opinion. It's fast, smooth, insanely customizable, very stable, updates are frequent and the dev is very responsive. 5 stars for sure!
