Here’s an option for a small display
I upgraded the dome lights and map lights with LED panels. Here’s the link to them on amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078V7WFDH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_bRQLDbRT13HJ5
I took out out the reflective divider in between the two map lights (lights above driver and passenger seats) to make the panel fit. It pulls right out. I wanted to keep the OEM look and keep it easy on the eyes so I went with warm white instead of the pure white. Interior is bright asf now. All in all, for $15 I’d say it was definitely worth it. Also the kit comes with 4 panels and I only used 3 so I have a spare panel just in case one fails.
Hopefully this helps someone
I had the 2" Supreme leveling kit installed yesterday. What a awesome difference 2 pieces of 1" metal can do! Boosted the nose up at least 2 full inches. Looks way better I think. I don't have any real auto tools so I had my local mechanic do it for me. Parts on Amazon + Install + Alignment service = $424 all in.
Purchased on Amazon and got a warranty just in case. Have had zero problems so far. I was also able to use the original gps by purchasing a couple items.

Thank you! Honestly, I think a home wash and wax does wonders for the paint. Mine spent the first 10 years of its life in Phoenix, so the paint is definitely showing it when you look closely. But every time I wax it, the paint looks new again.
I used the Meguiar's Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration kit, and it was amazing! You'll need some elbow grease, a drill, and about 3 hours of your day. But it'll make even the grossest headlights look like new. I've used it a couple times now, and it takes about a year before I start seeing a little yellowing again.

Welcome bud, where you coming from?
Here are my suggestions for trails out here:
Colorado Backroads
Colorado Backroads - Northern
These books are great and have allowed me to do some serious exploring, hope you find some that you love!
Master window switch. I've had good luck buying stuff from Switch Doctors before.
Here is the part on their website:
Although the picture is messed up on the listing, this appears to be the same part from them through Amazon for cheaper:
https://www.amazon.com/4Runner-Window-Control-Switch-Drivers/dp/B001MP169G
Don’t cheap out on the radiator. Spring for the factory replacement (I think they’re Denso IIRC), they’re $142 shipped on Amazon, Prime eligible. Not really that expensive in the pantheon of factory parts given its importance
Edit: this is what I bought about a month ago:

I already drive a 2000 4Runner but the poor girl is a rust bucket and I'm looking to upgrade condition.
ETA more details from listing:
Very clean and well maintained. Price is very Firm Cons: It is ready for a timing belt Driver's seat is showing wear Surface rust in places on frame Some rust on skid plates (in pics) Radio and Environment controls suffer from typical Toyota quirkiness Some of the plastic body pieces show 20 yr old wear Pros: Very clean Only 145785 miles New ball joints!! 🤔 A/T tires, and maybe rock sliders. The 4R is very capable bone stock with A/T tires, and rock sliders will protect the sides in case the mountain road turns into an ATV trail. 🤣
If you plan on camping in it, then window screens like this- https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HYXZYMN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And a tri-fold sleeping pad like this- https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0742B6F1H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I sleep on the driver-side while my fridge is on the passenger side.
Your front and rear differential have a breather on them. It’s a type of check valve that allows air out and is supposed to keep water or debris out. The front differential has a raised breather but the rear only has about a 1 inch check valve on it. So if you go in any water that you suspect when over your axel you should probably change the oil in the differential. Arb make a kit that has a snap fitting an hose so that you can’t re rout the breather wherever you want. For example I routed mine up into the engine bay above where my intake is for the engine. It significantly reduces the Chance of you getting some kind of contamination into your rear differential.
Edit- arb dif breather kit.
Don't use Armour all its pretty junk. Get yourself a bottle of 303 Aerospace Protectant. It's fantastic. I use it on the dashboard, any plastics in the vehicle, and it even works really well as tire protectant.
Pretty easy trail honestly, but rocky in some places but saw several Subarus up there.
Check out this trail on AllTrails. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/moffat-rollins-pass-road
This says the trail ends about 7 miles before it actually does. We just keep driving until we hit the part of the rd closed due to Needles Eye Tunnel being shut since 1990. The last mile or so is really rocky and pretty steep but otherwise drive is a piece of cake and real beautiful!
Have these on order for my 21 Black Venture. $22 with Prime. Not a bad deal.
I bought mine from Amazon, I couldn’t justify spending the full $70 some sites list that sell 4runner accessories, because I know they’re made cheap. I got mine for $30 through Amazon and it looks like they’re $25 right now.
Led Lights 5 PCS for 2014-2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro Grille Accessories Amber(4 Use 1 Spare,5PCS)

I have both. I have 3 girls so I use the 3rd row so there are not death matches when traveling any distance over 30 min.
I prefer the rooftop box. Anything you put up there is protected from the weather. It is great for everything for camping other than the cooler and firewood. I have been putting the cooler in the 3rd row seat that is folded down.
Also, the bike rack that we use is hitch mount and we take the bikes camping so that limits using the tray as well.
I find that I use the rear tray mostly for moving things like a tiller, pressure washer or lawnmower that I would be concerned about fuel spillage.
I have this roof top box.

I just got a Nite Ize steelie for mine. Stuck the ball to the trim to the right of the ac controls and its working awesome.
I believe you can get blackout covers for them as well. (I haven't tried them):

Appreciate the video and suggestion! I had a really hard time finding a cot that would fit in the back without removing the seat bottoms. Ended up with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0075D2J2C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It fits but barely. the rear legs can't even be extended fully but it maintains the final form. I added some cut pool noodles to stop the bars from scratching things up.
If this REI cot goes on sale, I'll consider replacing mine.
Is this the part you used? Seems fine, though I would prefer OEM. Thanks for the tip, I saw the two screws connecting the rubber but all the other older gens seem to require you going through the back of the hatch to fix it, this seems way easier. Plus I need a 90 degree screwdriver anyways...
no, i actually just got them! they’re 2010-2013 Spyder Auto 4runner projector beams. i ordered them here (it’s says they’re ACANII brand, but they’re actually from Spyder Auto: https://www.amazon.com/ACANII-2010-2013-Projector-Headlights-Headlamps/dp/B08N5LCN3K.
A buddy of mine swapped his T9 out for the Dasaita back around Thanksgiving. After playing around with it for a few weekends the Dasaita was definitely an improvement. The OS interaction is much snappier and sound quality noticeably improved. He said after selling the T9 it ended up being around $200 to upgrade from the T9.
I'm not suggesting the T9 is bad or that you should upgrade too, but if I was buying one for myself or recommending something to replace the stock unit it would be the Dasaita.

They've held up well since October, I was a bit hesitant about the adhesive not being strong enough.
Get a sanding pen and carefully sand off the peeling edges then get some brush-on touch-up paint that includes the clear coat and carefully apply it to the areas. Use very little on the brush and thin, multiple coats. From a few feet away it'll be hard to notice. Lots of good videos on YouTube on touching up small blemishes.

Ive done all the research. Buy this one. Don’t buy any that have the wheel to adjust the setting. This one is all brass and is solid
I'm running Mastercraft Courser C/Ts the previous owner installed a few years back. Feel the rubber is too hard, evrytime I'm on the trail the rubber is getting torn off.
I'm open to any recommendations! I'm currently looking at the Cooper ST Maxx in a 255/85.
On a side note, has anyone had experience with the Kenda Klever MT tires? I've run their tires on my mountain bike, but I didn't know they make automotive tires. Theyve got decent reviews on amazon and have a seriously competitive price!

As others have stated:
You can program the keys yourself. Go on amazon and order a key. https://www.amazon.com/Transponder-Toyota-4Runner-Cruiser-Corolla/dp/B0090DXBEK
Then, get it cut by your local key cutter. Then, follow youtube tutorial to program it!
I use this tri-fold mattress. It works great for just me, but wouldn't be good for two people. Search around on Amazon to see if they make a wider one. I have a 4th gen too, am a little over 6' tall, and can completely stretch out with the seat bottoms removed from the back seats.
Theres some good ones on amazon that don’t use the tape deck. Just Bluetooth through the radio. I had some $100 one long ago that never sounded as good as the $15 one I got on amazon. I feel like Bluetooth radio ones tend to sound better than cassette ones but that’s just my personal opinion. Maybe I never found the right one. https://www.amazon.com/JETech-Wireless-Transmitter-Phones-Charger/dp/B00URUJWPW

I bought this one years ago. Been absolutely awesome. Whatever you get make sure they have cree LEDs. Also I took the lens off and put a bead of silicone all the way around it for assured waterproofing. As for light bar mounts I got these:
They look great and are great. Get em powdercoated. Got a wiring kit on Amazon for like 20 bucks and custom rocket switch for less than 10. Spent less than 200 bucks for everything and they make a WORLD of difference. Never had a single issue out of the whole kit. Great if you live on a country road at night too. Can spot deer a mile away.
I absolutely LOVE my Falken AT3W's! I have a Daystar Lift, FJ TT shocks, Spidertrax spacers and the stock limited 18s with a 255/70-R18 size (32") and I love 'em :)
I COULD NOT break the tires loose in the rain on the road and they performed great during our "snow storm" we got a few weeks back (5" of snow in Metro Atlanta). Definitely not muds but for on-road/snow/gravel road/little bit of mud performance they kick ass.
I got mine for $130ea but I work at a shop so I got them under retail...
You could sneak a 265/70-r17 but personally I think a bigger tire on a non-lifted runner looks silly... Amazon has your size for $150ea but I think you can find them elsewhere around $130ea. Remember to check your spare! If you still have the original spare from 2006 it's time to replace it... https://www.amazon.com/Falken-Wildpeak-AT3W-Terrain-Radial/dp/B01C53DA42
It’s a “Foam Cannon” attached to my power washer. Chemical Guys sell several, but they didn’t get great reviews. Found one on Amazon much cheeper with decent reviews. P.S. - You still need to hand wash, but the pre-soak helps
DUSICHIN SFL-001 Pressure Washer Jet Wash 1/4" Quick Release Adjustable Snow Foam Lance, Foam Cannon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WPKHFA6?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Yeah dude - sadly the ones I got is no longer available on Amazon but your best bet in regard to budget cameras should be between $50-$100 max. However the key detail to ensuring you get the best bang for your buck is to locate a camera that's got great quality for nighttime recording. Unfortunately I cannot help you much here but if you're genuinely concerned about finding dings on your truck overnight (PA drivers can be horrible after all from what I hear...!) then I would strongly pony up an extra buck or two for the Blackbox brand since some of these bundles include a rear camera
https://www.blackboxmycar.com/collections/deals for the more expensive ones whose nighttime quality is excellent based on YouTube videos I've seen online with no editing
This is the camera that I feel like is closest to what I have - what is important is that you purchase a quality microSD card that will be able to handle loop-recording, assuming the camera comes with the ability to overwrite files if microSD ends up being "full". I opted for a Samsung microSD 128gb that's never failed me once.
Let me know if you're still interested in a power bank charger that can charge your cameras so they contentiously record footage after you park your vehicle overnight otherwise both cameras will get the job done for daytime recording
Mine is a 2014. Yours look pretty new ... Not sure if they're still coming with the standard interior bulbs, but your FIRST mod should be interior LED bulbs.
Best $25 I've ever spent on my Limited, and you'll WONDER why Toyota hasn't made interior LED's stock. A dramatic difference.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0834MQ2D1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also see lots of people doing headlamp LED's, but I'm still researching those. (Lots of confusing options.)

It’s a little diy combo of the below items. I want to learn to weld eventually and make a swing out to integrate with the factory bumper. This setup works pretty well but you end up with a pretty poor departure angle. I added a smittybuilt Jerry can holder which baaaaaarely fits (aka rubs the bumper).

I have no idea if those are the “best” but the difference is remarkable.
I’ll probably upgrade the headlights at some point, but honestly the stock ones aren’t bad at all. With headlights you get into the whole decision of new bulbs vs complete housings and the costs go up a LOT (like >$1,500 on the high end). I’m going to live with these for now.
I’ve got the LED fog lights already. Which is a mixed blessing. They’re nice, but with incandescent (or whatever) headlights and LED fogs the colors don’t match at all!
You can unscrew them from the inside of the hood. I bought 3M Matte Black Vinyl from Amazon (Link: https://www.amazon.com/3M-M12-MATTE-BLACK-Vinyl/dp/B00598U2EM). Once they are off the car you stick the wrap on and screw them back on. I’ve had it on for about a month and so far it’s holding up perfect.
Ya I just used something like this off Amazon
I use the schose magnetic mount. Works incredibly well and is so convenient. Just throw your phone on the mount and it’s solid. I have the magnet inside my phone case so I don’t even have to see that.

Had it for a year now and it’s by far the best option I’ve used yet
I use this on my Jeep with 32’s. I’ve aired up tires up to 35’s with it and it works really well. It’s faster than any other cheap pump I’ve seen in my off-road club and it’s designed to take the abuse.

The one you are using is just your typical lawn sprinkler. :-) Not enough PSI to get salt and stuff out. You need a car underbody washer hooked up to a 3k PSI pressure washer to get all that junk and salt out.
Hey, I am Atlanta - I plan to try out Sarah's Creek Road. Oddly enough, my vet told me about it. My goal is to stop and explore on foot as well.
As you know, most people in this city are friendly so you might also try r/Atlanta .
Also found this one but I don't know if the replaced engine should be a concern. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/428538767692791/
I only have the second row seating, not third. So before I laid down my seats, I used one of those dog seat covers:
Now with the seats folded flat, I just threw a queen sized comforter down and tucked it behind the passenger/drivers seat and in front of the folded seats so it stays tucked. I also have the regular cargo mat for the trunk area. Ghetto, but it works and my boy has room to spread out without pushing the other dogs out of the way 😂
I did my entire Jeep Wrangler myself, with about $100 of this stuff. Works pretty well, and is cheap. If the carpet is out, grab a box cutter and lay it down.

Otherwise, there is paint on sound deadening that works well too, but it’s about 3-4x as expensive.
If you get these, you can get rid of those hose clamps in the back to hold the remote reservoir.

Thank you! It’s a Daystar 2.5“ lift/ leveling kit. Here’s the link!
lol there’s a few more things but i suppose they’re hard to see😅. it has a 2.5” lift/level, all terrain 275s, flag decals on the back windows, LED fog lights, and i’ve updated both the tailights to the 2014/2021 style and the headlights to LED strip projector beams. here’s the link for the roof rack mounts
I also considered trying these to see if they would avoid the need for the relocate kit. But mainly I didn’t want to take everything off to try.

Yes sir, although I do suggest buying the proper filter wrench/socket to use. The grooves line up with the housing perfectly and makes oil changes a cinch.
I have no complaints, but have nothing to compare them against on the 4runner tbh. It was the suspension that came on the TRD pro until 2018 I believe, so obviously its not something super cheap. Bilstein sells the brackets that hold the remote reservoir to the shock body, I would get that if you haven't for a cleaner install. https://www.amazon.com/Bilstein-11-176015-Mounting-Kit/dp/B009FU4ENK

I just got done doing this! Mine was in much worse shape than yours.
I totally disassembled it, and recommend you do so. it doesn't take much to pull it apart and painting in and around everything will just be a pain. Slide the rubber bottoms off and set them aside, put all the screws in a baggy to not lose them. Sand everything down best you can. I had rust so i had to do quite a bit of sanding. Automotive primer and used Black Trim paint for the finish. (Rust-Oleum Bumper and Trim paint). I painted all the rails top and bottom, and all the plastic pieces. Couldn't be happier with the result. I used silicone in the screw holes on top to put it back together to make sure it doesn't leak.

I have pretty much the same ones I think. Here is the Amazon link. Works on my 2020, disregard the 2010-2018. Ahh I broke a whole bottle of wine this weekend when I opened my back back up. Somehow it got out of the grocery bag and made its way to the door.
I have a weather tech mat and was planning on getting something like this for groceries.
Amazon.

I've used it to restore these types of plastic bits. A good sanding and priming would be a good idea as well.
Then reattach with something like this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002MID28/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_4P1MMWEW5Q1MAKNBT2RF
I don’t know how strong you need but I just use this, easy to take out and store when not in use. I put it on the back seats to keep the dogs, and their hair, in the cargo area.

I use this, it works well for my Honda and the driver side too vent on the 4runner in the middle. I prefer to have the phone at gauge level then look down. But I hate blocking the windshield.
I installed these lights, ran the wiring through the square tube and connected to a trailer harness. I don’t have the specific install kit but I looking at this one on Amazon I think it’s the same one. The dash kit was bought a few years ago and I just happen to work with this new deck and it actually fits better with the new deck

Thank you! They're LED DRL housing by Akkon that I got off of amazon. They're awesome and really make the truck look modern. They're really popular so the housings come and go quickly
The Toyota part number is 90430-12031. I ordered these a while ago and just keep them around for the oil change. Probably overkill, but I swap them every change because they're cheap. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NPYW4TD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I imagine any auto parts store should have them on the shelf
Only pic I have without my license plate in it. I didn't take any during the process. I still want to trim the side skirts and adjust my step height. Bumpers are next in my queue. I replaced the taillights after I dropped a steel post on the driver's side one. And just did the headlights. By far the best upgrade decision I've done.
I Love mine. Doesn't mount directly to roof though, just cross bars, but about 1/10th the price. Works great with sunroof as only 2/3rds the roof size.
Too many trails to list. Sunflower mine loop is one of my favorites. Martinez cabin, box canyon, Coke ovens. Or if you really want an adventure out of the way you can roll through the chirachouas not sure if I spelled that right. There's a couple really nice books with trails in Arizona that I use. I don't really use apps because the lack of cell coverage on the trail. But the books you can physically take with you.

I'll second that. It even comes in kit form, with a drain hose for the filter and a screw-in filler funnel.
That price seems high at first, but after a few oil changes the usefulness outweighs the cost. Never thought I'd use that drain hose but it saves me from needing to remove the skid plate on a Limited - big time saver.
I use this on my 06:
It fit my 2 inch perfect. It’s suuuuuper heavy and I pity the fool that rear ends me. It’s powder coated and has some grip so it’s nice for loading unloading skis on my roof rack. It also can handle 10,000 pounds with straps.
Check out this link. This is for the .5 inch but they have other heights.

I'm not sure about this manufacturer and their quality, so I recommend you do some research. If you google "4runner leveling kit" you should be able to get some good results. That's how I found the link I sent you.
Finished this in February but finally took some pictures and posted. The platform is based on 2x3s from Home Depot with 1/2” plywood. I think this together is the perfect size, basically it’s a 3” drop to the trunk area. Mattress is a 5” foam mattress from Amazon (link below) that I cut to size and then gf sewed the cushions with fabric from Jo Ann Fabric. It is pretty comfortable and taking the back seats out allows us both to fit comfortably (I’m 6’1”) with our small dog. Let me know if you have any questions!

Ordered this way back when COVID first started hitting and it was stuck for about 2 months with no movement out of China so I ended up canceling the order and getting a refund.
I'm now debating on ordering again or going for the Dasaita unit instead.

or, just keep waiting.
