I use https://ifttt.com to accomplish this.
I setup 3 different automations:
When Abode is set to away, set ecobee to away.
When Abode set to home, resume ecobee program.
When Abode set to standby, resume ecobee program.
Hello teabag-u,
Our sincerest apologies for not reaching out. We'd definitely like to speak with you about upgrading.
The easiest way to make sure we're both available is to schedule a time slot here: calendly.com/abode-sales.
Or you could email your contact info to [email protected] and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Tim @ abode Sales
The Abode Reddit Wiki has a list of unofficial compatible devices which includes the Yale lock. I purchased Yale Assure Lock Key Free Touchscreen Deadbolt with Z-Wave in Satin Nickel (YRD240-ZW-619) from Amazon and it works like a charm with the Abode gateway. As soon as I can I'm buying another lock for the other entry door.
Best of luck.
Got one of these Yale locks on Amazon. Install took 20 to 30 minutes. So far works great. I said "Alexa, tell Abode to unlock the basement door" and it asked for my pin. I know, my pin is about to expire sigh. I've updated the wiki.

then i really recommend that you take a look at ifttt. it's very straight-forward and noob-friendly and opens up so much more possibilities for home automation. for example, i was able to find samsung washer recipes here. not sure if it's compatible with what you have, but it's worth a try.
IFTTT is the currently the way to go for this. If you haven't already, go to IFTTT, create an account and search "Sunrise" and "Sunset". Weather Underground has an "If this" and abode allows a "then that" to turn the lights on at Sunset and to turn the lights off at Sunrise. I've used this and it works nearly 100% of the time. Its a good example of where IFTTT works well. Of course, this is also a great example of something simple that the future abode Automation Engine should allow.
Note that that newer smartplug is a Wi-Fi device, not zigbee like the Abode supported device. So it probably won't work with Abode although you can evidently control it directly from Alexa.
$23 is a great price for a nice little smartplug. There's also a blurb in their Black Friday flyer that you can get one for $14.99 with purchase of any Christmas tree. https://slickdeals.net/blackfriday/stores/lowes/adscans/30967/
I personally like the GE Z-Wave switches, especially with them being on sale at Lowes. I have about 8 of these installed throughout my house with no issues.
However, if I were to buy them today, I'd probably go with the latest version on Amazon:
They should be nearly identical but now support Z-Wave Plus. Unfortunately, abode's gateway doesn't support Z-Wave Plus, just Z-Wave, but it's still backwards compatible and if abode ever releases a new hub or you go with another home automation hub that supports Z-Wave Plus, you can take advantage of it. Be advised though, they're not currently listed as an officially supported device on abode's support page and I'm not sure if anyone has tested them with abode yet.
I'm going to see if I can fit the fob into one of these key ring organizers. That way, i still have quick and easy access to the buttons, but they should be blocked from accidental contact when in my pocket or bag

I'll post back in a few days to let you know if its a good solution or not
Here's a sample IFTTT applet involving Garadget and Abode. You can use one off-the-shelve or mix and match the triggers and actions in your custom applet.
Hi /u/nVIceman, Thanks for considering Garadget.
At this time there is no direct integration between the two systems, but Garadget has IFTTT Channel and Abode has one too, so they can be easily connected.
What kind of automation scenario do you have in mind?
Below is a list of products tested and verified to work with your abode gateway. To suggest a device, email us anytime at
https://support.goabode.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2267539-compatible-z-wave-zigbee-devices
abode is also compatible with 200+ products and services via our IFTTT channel located at https://ifttt.com/abode
I don't have any Arlo's, but others here on this subreddit have them and say they work good when linked up through IFTTT. Search through this subreddit for more info (or for better results, use Google to search "site:www.reddit.com/r/abode arlo ifttt")
IFTTT stands for "If This Then That". It's kind of like a cloud based automation engine for all IoT (internet of things) devices that are compatible. The only downside is that there is not multi-condition automations available as of yet, but they are working on it (https://beta.conjureapp.com/). So, while abode might not be natively compatible with a lot of devices, it is compatible with IFTTT, so any other device that is compatible with IFTTT can trigger or react to another device. You create applets (used to be called recipes), for example, "IF" your abode alarm goes off, "Then" call my phone (Android). I've got probably over 100 applets, but most of those are related to light switches for commanding via Google Home and Amazon Echo (before the smart home skill was released for abode). The only downside is that if you set up an automation on IFTTT, you are relying on your internet connectoin and/or the cloud, so you don't necessarily want to trust it with critical automations.
IFTTT is free.
Using IFTTT. Specifically the following two URLs have information about IFTTT for abode and arlo: https://ifttt.com/abode https://ifttt.com/arlo
If you setup an IFTTT account you then need to connect both your arlo and abode to it (use the links above). Then you create a new IFTTT applet that would be for example if abode mode changed to away then arm arlo. It's all very click and simple on the IFTTT site.
Is that your configuration.yaml or automations.yaml file? It looks like a combination of both. I would first recommend reading through the Docs on the Home Assistant page to get an understanding of how everything is structured. It can be a bit of a learning curve at first but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy.
By default, the configuration.yaml and automation.yaml are two separate files (among a few others like groups.yaml, customize.yaml, etc.). Inside your configuration.yaml file, you should only have these configuration variables that are related to abode:
https://home-assistant.io/components/abode/ (look at the section that says configuration variables)
Formatting is important too using yaml, all the way down to how many spaces a line has if it’s supposed to be a “child” to a “parent” line (not sure if those are even the right words).
If you’re trying to use the Google TTS service, that will be enabled in your configuration.yaml file but anything related to the automation itself goes into the automation.yaml file.
I'm unfamiliar with using Hue light system, but if the Hue app shows up in the action list for Apple shortcuts, you should be able to pull this off. You'd just create a new shortcut and add the Abode action to arm the system, as well as the Hue action to turn off lights.
PS, if you used Z wave light switches, they could connect to abode and you wouldn't need Hue. Super easy to wire, and can't even tell they are "smart" switches by looking at them.
I use GE brand switches, or Honeywell lately (identical to GE switches, but cheaper.
here's a link to regular Z Wave light switch
and here's a link to a dimmer switch
Both work great with Abode.
I went shopping for the little button cell CR2032 battery last night. Found them at a grocery store for about $5/battery. Then I found a pack of 20 on Amazon for $6. It's a pretty small battery, so I imagine I'll have to replace it more frequently than any of the others.
If and when you do change the battery, make sure to remove the battery and then put the battery holder back in the device. It took me all of about 5 minutes to lose it for several hours.
What was I thinking. Sorry, I was hypoglycemic when I replied.
Here is a Z wave switch that should work well and connect directly with Abode:
GE Z-Wave Plus Wireless Smart Lighting Control Smart Switch, On/Off, In-Wall, Includes White & Light Almond Paddles, Works with Amazon Alexa, 14291 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1AHC3R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_A.91zbQY1X4RQ
If this is your first foray into installing electrical switches, make sure you have neutral wiring in your home and pick up yourself a voltage tester like below:
Klein Tools NCVT-3 Non-Contact Voltage Tester with Flashlight Klein Tools https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XJQ9ZE4/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_x_SyWeAbH1D7BER via @amazon
If you want to find a device that Abode has tested, here’s a list: Abode compatible devices
This Fibaro smart plug is in that list: Fibaro wall plug
Do you mean a Carbon Monoxide detector? Carbon Monoxide is the deadly gas emitted when natural gas leaks without being burned off.
What about this:
Yeah, they were bought by Nice. It was supposed to be the basis of some sort of integration across platforms. Nice also owns a company that makes automation for blinds. I figured since I have Abode, I could buy their automation and I would be all set with one ecosystem. No dice. You can't even get any info about their blinds automation, much less which blinds it works on and who to buy it from.
There is one review of the device on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/FIBARO-YH-001-Yubii-Z-Wave-Smart/dp/B09P1SYG1B#customerReviews
Massive, total integration failure...
I’m curious about this too. I heard Google took it over and closed it up but IFTTT claims it’s still a thing. https://ifttt.com/connect/abode/ring
Can someone confirm that Nest is compatible with Abode as of now?
You would just need to download the IFTTT app and pair abode to it. I have the applets linked below that I use.
Abode Alarm Activated Automatically Set Phone Ring Volume
When the Abode Alarm is Activated Sets your Phone Ring Volume and Notification Volume to the user selected volume so you can hear important Abode notifications and phone calls if you have your phone set to vibrate or muted.
https://ifttt.com/applets/hSFYjq48
Call me if my alarm is triggered
If your alarm is triggered you'll get a phone call letting you know.
You can try it with IFTTT. Even though I did not see the exact option you were looking in IFTTT or abode, you can still find a way to have Wyze notify you only when abode is armed.
Notifications from abode are sent via Push notification and email. Push notification has a permission needs to be granted to receive them. The app should ask for permission when you first install or can be changed in the settings of your smart phone. We have an integration with IFTTT that you can configure to send text messages or an automated voice message.
Oh! In that case, you might want to check out Wemo and what IFTTT triggers and recipes are out there! Check this for example: https://ifttt.com/applets/129661p-remind-yourself-to-cut-back-on-electricity-when-your-monthly-power-usage-increases
I'm doing this since a couple years with IFTTT for exactly for the same use case. https://ifttt.com/applets/A5Gtmb9N-arm-abode-at-a-certain-time-each-night . Though if CUE now supports it I guess I will switch to it. It's rare, but sometimes the connectivity with IFTTT doesn't work and it skips the action.
It's a bigger task than you probably think, and I imagine for a very small subset of consumers. So don't hold your breath.
I'd look at IFTTT in the meantime, you can trigger emails, calls, texts etc. https://ifttt.com/abode
At the time I purchased the system I remember something about the keypad not being reliable or I did not want to add another hole into my wall to mount the keypad. I really did not like the keypad so, I never used it. I figured since my wife and I both have the app, we could use it as needed if we had to. First person to arrive back at home disarms the alarm with the 4 phones. Last person to leave the house arms it with the 4 phones.
As far as the evening goes, you can hook it up to Alexa to where you can tell Alexa or Google Home to arm the home. When you arm it at night, it will be in home mode which you can choose the delay time in case an intruder enters the house at that point of entry.
I believe you can also integrate the Nest thermostat and/or Ecobee to enter away mode when the alarm goes into away mode. You can also use IFTT to integrate more features so, in the event my alarm goes off, I get a notification on my phone as well as a phone call. Here is the IFTT channel for Abode,
Another thing that irked me about ADT was, although I technically was not under a contract, I should have the ability to do what I want with the system. Once you choose to end your relationship with ADT, they send a signal to your boxes to lock you out. Also, if I wanted to integrate my cameras into the ADT Pulse system, I had to buy their cameras (even those they are the same ones) and have ADT install them and pay a monthly fee to use them, Completely absurd IMO. Whereas with the Abode system I can easily integrate whatever I want and whenever I want. I can also modify my current system as needed.
This extender was recommended by Abode. I paired one with my network. My far garage door sensor still goes offline and stays offline. It didn’t help.
I'm not sure how far you need to locate your outdoor cams so poe might be the best option since it can go up to 100m I think. If you are not going that far I have been successful using 25ft USB to Micro USB extensions. My outdoor cams are mounted on the outside of my house so 25 ft is enough to get me into my basement or attic and from there I just run an indoor extension cord to the nearest outlet. I use these cables https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FR1ZRWJ and the power block that came with the cam. The only mod I had to make was trimming down the rubber a little at the micro USB side so it would plug into the cam properly.
This is the only one I could find https://ifttt.com/applets/jX69D4GQ-place-abode-in-away-mode-with-google-assistant
But I couldn't find the one that you referenced. SAD!
I had mine since the beginning too. The battery was going bad, would only last about 3 days before I would get notifications. I bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TTD2Y5G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just had to swap out the connector on the battery with the old one and it's been working fine for over a month now
I use the recessed door sensors as well. They work great, but damn that is a tricky hole to drill! Luckily I have old-school wood doors, I’m not sure how you’d do steel or fiberglass. I found a portable drill guide indispensable for the task (Milescraft 1318 DrillMate Portable Drill Guide - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014A1Z92I/).
Probably the cheapest and easiest way to see if it is a signal issue would be to put a z-wave plug/repeater somewhere between the misbehaving device and the hub/another working device. I like these guys. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FM3NFCP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You do not have to buy their hub. Add it as a abode sensor, not a third party sensor
Add new device > environmental sensor > water leak sensor
Hold the button on the back of the sensor. Abode detects it, name it.
Turn off the alarm function, just send notifications.
The on-device alarm is NOT 90dB. I'm very glad for false advertising.

Try something like these LED cover stickers? https://smile.amazon.com/LightDims-Original-Strength-Electronics-Appliances/dp/B00CLVEQCO/
I’ve used similar to dim down obnoxious LEDs and digital displays on other devices. May take several layers.
Here is the cable that Abode links to in the installation instructions on their website.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GD8CWN4/ref=as_li_tl?th=1
I haven't tried it myself, so it may be no better than what you purchased. You may want to put a small amount of silicone sealant around where your sanded-down cable inserts into the camera.
People have had good luck with the GE Zwave controllers. I use the outdoor controller and I think they all use the same chip. This switch has been reported as working in the wiki.
I'll need to fix the status indicator it seems. I'll also downgrade that message to info instead of warning. However, for now, to disable the warning for unknown devices you can just add "abodepy: error" to your logging configuration.
Thanks! Do you know if the Zen 23 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A3SBTM6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1) is compatible with Abode? Do the Zooz really work with existing 3-way switches?
For CUE to work, the device has to be paired to the Abode HUB. Abode plays well with many z-wave plugs and light switches. I use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FM3NFCP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for plugs and both Zooz and GE Enbrighten light switches. They are all able to be controlled through CUE and via google mini though the Abode hub.
For any Docker folks out there, here's a container for you. I just installed it on my NAS and will play with it this weekend:
Thanks for putting that on my radar. I watched the into video and will be working on setting it up this weekend.

Went ahead and grabbed a 4/pk of Hues for $50. Prices looked about the same, but decided to go with Hue after reading this: https://www.slant.co/versus/13813/15535/~philips-hue_vs_cree-connected

Just install the gapps packages with Lineage. I've done this in the past and it works just fine. Don't go with pico or nano unless you absolutely have to for some reason, it's too reduced.
I spotted something I've wanted for a long time: a digital assistant that isn't connected to a large tech company.
The side popped its way to the top of HackerNews so has been up and down most of the day due to the load but this looks really interesting. I'm going to see if I can set it up on an old Raspberry Pi over the weekend and then maybe see if there's a way to get it linked to Abode.
You can use any button that works with IFTTT or HomeAssistant.
I used the Logitech Pop Button in the past. There's also the Flic Smart Button.
Nice dude! I almost bought that but the location of the plug doesn’t work for me. I needed something top down. Ended up buying these and they work similar to what you stated.

I finally took the plunge and ordered this guy:
Leviton DZPA1-2BW Decora Smart Plug-in Outlet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAO4B9Z
It arrived today: plugged it in, held down the little indicator button thingy for 7 seconds; pressed it one more time to enter pair mode (starts flashing green on/off quickly); put Abode into find a new third party device; Done!
It's now visible in the device list and I can control it from Abode and see on/off state. Just have to put up some Halloween lights and hook-up a CUE to turn them on/off.
Happy days.
I tried the peanut plugs with my Iota wouldn't pair. Wound up using these Minoston Z-Wave Mini Outlet
I use of brand charger and batteries with zero problem.
Here's what I use for Arlo Batteries and and off brand battery charger. Works with zero problems
When the power is off and the backup battery does, it’s offline. I have a DC UPS to extend the time. Don’t know how long it goes but it’s at least 12 more hours. I also have one on my primary router.

I am actually thinking of taking a small usb to Ac adapter, cracking it open, hard wire leads, and wire nut it to the 110v outdoor lights!
You sure, the aftermarket ones work with like everything from1983 to present. Chamberlain-Liftmaster-Multi-Code keypad
The other option might be to get a myQ hub
I use the Securifi Peanut but it's Zigbee.
https://www.amazon.com/Securifi-compatible-Remotely-Monitor-Appliances/dp/B00TC9NC82
You could probably do that but you would need a resistor inline with the doorbell wiring to power the camera. You can’t just hook up power straight to the camera, the wired doorbell transformer will overheat and possible cause a fire. I’d also recommend some heat-shrink tubing around the wires for weather proofing.
Resistor for Doorbell Direct Wiring
You only need 1.
No, we use the Wyze app. Honestly rarely open the abode app though except to view the timeline. Use Google Home/assistant for almost everything else.
This is the switch I use, there is a decora/paddle version as well. GE Enbrighten zwave switch
Here is another option for the tape: the 3M or Scotch indoor-outdoor Mounting Tape is recommended, it is gray with a red peel off backing and you can cut to fit. It doesn’t have an LED though.
We recommend using the 3M or Scotch indoor outdoor Mounting Tape. It's gray with a red peel off backing that you can cut to fit. It can be found at Walmart or your local hardware stores. Below is a link to the tape from amazon:
>99120-005-R
u/usatya19 So I bought a Kwikset 99140-131 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SZX21ZM
Like your 99120-005-R 912, it's Z-Wave Plus, so I figured it would work. It pairs with Abode, but it shows the signal as weak. Brand new batteries, door is only 20 feet from the Abode Gen 2 Gateway, so not sure why it's showing as weak.
I can see the lock in the Abode Web Portal as UNLOCKED. If I click it, the door lock turns, but then the web portal immediately reverts back to showing it as unlocked, and I get 2 "device reconnected to gateway" notifications. Abode doesn't consider it LOCKED, so if I click it again, it tries to lock it again, and the cycle continues.
Did you have any such trouble getting yours to work with Abode?
Just set up one of these this weekend with good results. In the inside of the sensor there is a switch with four sensitivity levels. Was getting false positives in the location I placed it in so I lowered the sensitivity level which solved the issue.
In case anyone wonders, I went ahead an ordered this battery
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07815961L/
mainly because the seller specified the thickness in Q&A: the original battery is 27mm thick, and this replacement is 29mm. The battery has arrived and I have replaced it about an hour ago. The additional 2mm thickness didn't allow to push the battery all the way down, but since the original battery was also taller, there was enough space to squeeze in this battery. The lower white cover fit a bit snugger than before, but I think its ok.
Now, the most important part: the battery works! When I disconnect the AC adapter, an orange light turns on (failure indication) but the gateway stays on. When arming, it says that gateway is experiencing power failure, but that's exactly what it should say. After plugging AC back the failure light goes off as expected. So far it looks good.
So, contrary to what Abode says, the battery in the Gateway is relatively easy to replace. It's a shame Abode itself would not provide the proper fitting part, but the replacement batteries available on amazon still can do the trick and you will not need to shell out $200 for a new Gateway.
I’ve been using the GoControl GD00Z-4, which integrates with Abode.
You’ll see some mixed reviews about this garage door controller. Some people mentioned that it worked fine for about a year and then stopped working. I’ve had it for about 6-months now and had no problems. The integration works very well and I also setup a trigger on Abode to automatically close the garage door after it’s been open for 10 minutes (because sometimes I leave the house and forget to close it).
Just in case, when I bought it from Amazon, I also bought the 4-year protection plan for an extra $14.99. So if it goes out before that, I’ll get a new one or my money back.

They work well for us. You don't need to get the August version, as they will connect to Abode via Z-Wave.
We don't use geofencing to unlock the doors.
Good luck!
You can buy the GoControl/Linear GD00Z-4 Z-Wave Garage Door Opener
Those are compatible with Abode system. I bought one, integrated it with my Abode and now it can control my Liftmaster. It's been working great, I set up automatically closing after a few minutes and when alarm mode is changed to Home or Away.
There are some reviews saying that this controller only works for about a year and then quits, so I'd recommend buying the extra warranty (it was $10 bucks for 3 years on Amazon).
/u/Mike2541 I am glad to find your comment! I have seen some negative reviews of Parallel Space since its recent update. Have you updated to the most recent version? Any issues with Abode?
Background: I am about to order Abode for my home. I already use at my business. I contacted Abode support who said I was SOL but then I came across this concept of running two apps. If the Parallel Spaces solution works, I will buy Abode with black friday deal for my house. Knowing this works is a prerequisite to my purchase. Thanks!
This one works great for me.

But that one would not change the colors. I actually have it just won’t be used with Abode.
Not yale, but this one worked perfectly with Abode / Alexa. Picked it up for about $120 open box on Amazon Warehouse.
Schlage Z-Wave Connect Camelot Touchscreen Deadbolt with Built-In Alarm, Satin Nickel, BE469
You should be able to install an external siren and trigger it with a CUE automation (if "alarm state:[burglar alarm]", then: on:[z-wave switch to outdoor siren], if:[we are out of the geofenced area]). I have considered doing that, as well, and have added this to my Amazon wishlist ... whenever I get around to doing it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9P0G5K/
I don't believe so. I don't have a hub but I do use the Home app on both Android/iOS ... and an option to arm Abode doesn't show up in there. The z-wave devices that I've added through Abode show up there (e.g. the lights). I do not have a separate smarthub like Smartthings, it's just Abode. Honestly, it's not that big of a deal to me to open the Abode app to arm/disarm the system. The app is really well designed ... I almost want to say better than the Google Home app. I wish there was a condensed version of the Google Home app ... too much white space.
Yes you can. I use this kit and it works great. I think they all have to be Schlage locks.

All the stick-a-sensor-on-the-door solutions tend to look bulky and ugly on the door, if they fit at all. I have a Craftsman-style house with really deep frames on the inside and couldn't fit any of their sensors. What I did is install a roller switch at the bottom of the door and drill a hole so that the wire went into the basement. Then I wired that to one of the standard Abode door/window sensors. It takes more work but you don't see the contact at all that way and can easily switch to some other system if Abode goes out of business.
Something like this is what I think Abode needs:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073VXZ5JN
But with a new design because this thing is pretty ugly in my opinion. I actually like the iDevices Switch design. I'd actually prefer it be Z-wave instead of abodeRF so it can act as a Z-wave node to extend/improve your Z-wave network.
Similar to the aumi mini, you can get a simple nightlight and a Hue Candle Bulb. Works great with Abode. Then, you would set up Automations to change the bulb color when the system status changes.
I had similar issue with old style "fluted" casing. I went with these traditional sensors. https://www.amazon.com/Recessed-Invisible-security-Battery-powered/dp/B0151Z49BO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1520789443&sr=8-3&keywords=aeon+door+sensor
Wish I saw this thread before buying the status indicator. This thing's going to give me epilepsy!
Thinking this might be worth a try:
I'm using the Aeotec Smart Switch 6 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VQISOCG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) without issue. It shows up as a Power Switch Meter in Abode, and can be turned on and off. Energy usage doesn't show up in the Abode UI, though.
I'm using this (https://www.amazon.com/Enerwave-ZWN-333M-PLUS-Z-Wave-Switch-Monitor/dp/B06WVRVBRM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1518854914&sr=8-5&keywords=Enerwave+Z-Wave+Outlet+Plug-in&dpID=312d6DJpUvL&preST=_SX342_QL70_&dpSrc=srch). Works fine. Bought it off of Ebay for a bit cheaper. I have it hooked up to internal cameras so when I leave the house, the cameras are plugged into these plugs so Abode geofencing will power on the plugs and thus the cameras.
I used the Linear Z-Wave.
One thing I did forget when I ordered the opener is that if you have 2 garage doors, you need 2 openers. We have 2 doors but really only use one regularly so I only automated the one.
The price of the GE Z-wave plus switch on Amazon is lower than average for the past couple of days. I bought a few for $32.80.
Absolutely.
The switches i got were these: GE Z-Wave Plus Wireless Smart Lighting Control Smart Toggle Switch, On/Off, In-Wall, White, Works with Amazon Alexa / Google Home, 14292 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06VYCFXT4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TLYlAb3MVDQ5J
I chose those because the outside flood lights and entry lights I automated are only controlled by one switch. If you want to automate a light controlled by more than one switch, you need to buy the “add-on switch version” for the other switches.
I also chose these as opposed to the paddles (long rectangular looking switches) because I would not have to replace the faceplate. (Most of my switches are 3-4 switch panels,... not just one switch by itself). The rectangular paddle switches are just too big and I wanted to keep the light switches that I was not going to automate the same, without having to replace those and replace the faceplate as well. Sure, the color didn’t match, my face plates and other switches are light almond, and these only come in white - but honestly you barely notice it.
I️t was pretty easy to install and even easier to connect and set up. Abode makes this a breeze. Just make sure that you cut the breaker and then make sure that the wires aren’t still hot!
Not cheap but you can buy an electronic glass break detector. [Glass Break Detector](https://www.amazon.com/BOSCH-SECURITY-VIDEO-DS1110I-Glassbreak/dp/B003ENO7H2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1512567093&sr=8-3&keywords=glass+break+sensor+tester_
I bought this off Amazon...It's only 50 bucks...you can view remotely with it's own app. It hasn't given me any issues yet and has really good resolution. You can pan / tilt it as well and record locally via micro SD card.
The motion sensor sucks with the default software. If you want motion sensor to work well I hear you should buy blue iris software, but for me, I just like to be able to view what's going on live or go back and look at recordings.

You can get an in-wall tablet mount and mount a phone or a table in the wall. If you look hard enough on amazon, you will find mounts that are flush with the wall. You will have to mess around with wiring so it looks nice.
Either work fine. I ended up installing the sensors just above the latch on the door. I had a french door that had the sensor on one door and the magnet on the other.
Pro tips:
I bought one of these...... https://www.amazon.com/YI-Wireless-Security-Surveillance-Detection/dp/B01CXDPQ64/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1514741926&sr=1-13&keywords=cloud+camera&refinements=p_89%3AYI
But this is another one, I know it comes with sd card, but whats us edition?.............. https://www.amazon.com/YI-Wireless-Security-Surveillance-MicroSD/dp/B01C89K1I6/ref=sr_1_14?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1514741926&sr=1-14&keywords=cloud+camera&refinements=p_89%3AYI
Check out the Lutron Connected Bulb Remote https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014STZASK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8nohAbEZ20WS2. It’s basically a Zigbee remote for Hue and other zigbee bulbs.
I’ve replaced most of my bulbs with Hue and light switches with these. You can get the lutron pico Wall plate and put these remotes in your old switches. I removed my traditional switches and connected the wires together so the fixtures are always on. Been working great so far.
The trick with Abode is to pair the remote to the Abode hub, then pair the bulbs to the Abode hub, then pair the remote to the bulbs.
I use these. They work fine even though not on the compatibility list. The only thing that has annoyed me is that I like to have the status indicator off at all times in my bedroom but it goes back on if the power goes out.
Leviton DZ15S-1BZ Decora Smart Switch with Z-Wave Plus Technology, White/Light Almond, Works with Amazon Alexa https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZ0WVKH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_q-LeAbB61QBFM
I don’t have the Lutron Caseta so I am not sure about the hub question.
As far as the Z wave switches, I think what you described is ugly. Don’t like that as well.
You can consider the decora style switches like this.
The Eaton Aspire switches sook pretty nice too but it’s only zwave and not zwave plus.
These are in my shopping cart at Amazon, but I haven't actually bought them to try them out. Well, I have bought the smart switch DZ15S-1BZ, but have never bought it and setup for the 3-way setup.

Just two clarify, we have metioned 2 sensors here:
Abode Thin Door sensor
For the Abode sensor, you can ask here.
For the Sensative sensor, more people might be familiar with it in the other Reddit.
You might want to go with the Sensative sensor because it's thinner.
I did come across this... http://open.yitechnology.com/.. don't know if it helps... also have seen some "modified" firmware for the cameras online too.
It appears their cameras work with Alexa though - https://www.amazon.com/x4E0A-x6D77-x5C0F-x8681-x79D1/dp/B074MR489M
