Your post has perfect timming as far as gaming is concerned.
Bard & Baker has an event every month.
The event is specifically for people looking to get together in a group and play some games. You can show up and they have specific tables set aside for strangers to sit down and play at.
As someone else suggested meetup.com has some really good groups on it for all different kinds of things.
If you are looking for a more serious table top gaming gaming experience I would go down to Zombie Planet on Central and see what people are playing, the guys there are great to talk to and will gladly let you know if like Tuesday night is Warhammer night, etc. Alternatively over in East Greenbush is Flipside gaming, same suggestion as Zombie, just further.
I use two, for two different purposes:
I like Dark Sky, tells you down to the minute when rain begins/ends. The creators of it are former RPI students, been using it for about 7 years now.
I also like AccuWeather, I try to stay away from anything made by Weather.com/Weather Channel, too many ads that slow it down.
Vroman's Nose is an uphill hike but it's not steep and it's short (maybe 30-40 minutes up). It's pretty and the area has some fun stories and folklore. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-york/vromans-nose-loop-trail
If you do switch, check out Groupon for a BJ's membership (or for anyone else looking the other way, they also have a Sam's membership deal going). For BJ's, it's $25 for a normal membership, $55 for the 2% back membership, plus some coupons bundled in.
The website is not built by a competing construction company. If you check Nextdoor.com you'll find the infuriating source of the site and so much misinformation about the way a city works and what it can/cannot support. It's mainly coming from a extremely vocal group of people who have lived in the neighborhood for a long time and don't like change.
Albany’s average snowfall is ~60 inches:
https://www.weather.gov/media/aly/Climate/ALY_Seasonal_Snowfall_Totals.pdf
Detroit is 44.1 inches:
https://weather.com/storms/winter/news/detroit-record-snow-season-20140415
Goodluck.
Join some of the groups on meetup.com if you like being active. There are hiking and running groups for example. A good place to meet people. If you enjoy running there are numerous clubs and frankly I think its one of the best ways to meet people but I may be biased.
Two things... don't burn it. If you get that in your lungs you're gonna have a bad time. Second thing, Tecnu is absolutely amazing at getting rid the oil that causes the reaction from the Poison * stuff...
I've gone to 2 different places so far. I plan to post a "review" of my experience here eventually.
I went to Towne Bowling Academy in Rotterdamn the night they opened. You and your party are confined to one lane. Plenty of lane space between parties. There was constantly somebody out with a spray bottle and towel wiping down various surfaces. All of staff wearing masks at all times. Patrons expected to wear masks at all times including while bowling.
I've been to Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady twice now. They did exactly what Towne did (copy: You and your party are confined to one lane. Plenty of lane space between parties. There was constantly somebody out with a spray bottle and towel wiping down various surfaces. All of staff wearing masks at all times. Patrons expected to wear masks at all times including while bowling.) They explicitly stated on their FaceBook page that masks are to be worn at all times. Boulevard also hung plastic sheets (Look like these) between every pair of lanes in the sitting area, not on the lane.
great web site for this kind of info: http://www.radioreference.com/
Click on live audio, find the area you are interested in and listen. You'll hear real time audio of police, fire, or ems radios. If you're tuning in on the middle of something it might be a little confusing.
There's also a scanner app for phones. What I like best about it is if there's more than a certain number of people listening (as in something's going on) I get an alert. I have it set a 10 for my hometown & 500 nationwide. For example, I knew about San Bernardino right when it was happening. Can be useful if traveling or family in those areas.
here's the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.scannerradio
As long as Obamacare is law, health insurers must spend at least 80% of premiums on health care costs and quality improvement activities. The other 20% can go to administrative, overhead, and marketing costs.
Insurers that don't meet the 80/20 rule actually have been forced to send rebates to their customers (usually the employer unless you have an individual plan). Of course the actual problem is that healthcare costs themselves are extremely inflated, but yeah.

I haven't been able to dig into this yet but it looks like a malvertising campaign.
Peebles Island in Cohoes/Waterford has a nice hiking trail. There is also a place along the Waterford canal that rents Kayaks in the summer.

Actual mouse/rat poison, that isn't available on the shelf at Homedepot, does absolutely work to knock down the population pretty quickly if you wanted to get that under control. Once they're gone ,you need seal everything up to prevent any more from moving in.. or just keep the bait stations full and monitor them forever.
I heard the traffic for this event was insane. Mom and sister went, said 90mins to go this far
But cool event and good to know that they have problems from too many attending.
We recently moved to Selkirk and are forced to use Mid-Hudson Cable and their ridiculous pricing. So right now we're just getting basic (non HD) cable from them and internets. I went out and bought the RCA ANT111 at Best Buy for ~$10 and it works great. I get CBS, ABC, FOX, The CW, NBC and PBS in HD 1080i. The only thing is for some reason I have a hard time getting PBS digital to come in. I haven't messed with my antennae positioning yet though. Plus we're in a valley, so you might have better luck.
Been following this because our area's AQI has been spiking in recent weeks.
On Accuweather, the only pollutant reading that is worse than "Excellent" is Ground-level Ozone: https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/albany/12210/air-quality-index/329673
For some reason, it looks like it's moderately bad up the entire Atlantic coast.
Tropospheric, or ground level ozone, is not emitted directly into the air, but is created by chemical reactions between oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOC). This happens when pollutants emitted by cars, power plants, industrial boilers, refineries, chemical plants, and other sources chemically react in the presence of sunlight.
And regardless of what is causing the issue in our neck of the woods, look at the Accuweather map at how bad China and India are fucking our planet up.
"Tawasentha Park Loop is a 2.2 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Guilderland, New York that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is best used from April until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash." There have been a few posts in the past year asking about the weather and I figured this would be a good resource to provide some insight into the unusual weather patterns. You can also check out this website for a great visualization of winds and temperature.
For any and every coffee question, I trust James hoffman. https://youtu.be/PApBycDrPo0 He brews onto ice while increasing the ratio of beans and decreasing water in his brew. These particular traps are 1000% better than the classic wooden ones. Super easy to set and reset. Much more surface area to set the traps off. I used a dab of PB with 2 or 3 sunflower kernels pressed into the top of the PB.
Google around and find out how to remove the hard drive from that old laptop, then order a connection cable online. Finally use a free recovery tool...

Out of curiosity, what are the dietary issues? We have a few restaurants in the area that really cater to vegan, gluten free, paleo, etc. options.
If they might be into history and architecture, this book has some great essays on the building history of the city, and a series of guided walking tours for different neighborhoods, with whole pages on select interesting buildings. It talks about history as the city developed and is a great excuse to go walk around learning a bit.

I agree with you on the second point!
I use this to prep for all my job interviews. I don’t typically read from it but the process of preparing it is helpful. It helps me to preemptively prepare answers to questions and have more to talk about. Since I started using it my interviews have become more of a dialogue and not just a Q & A type situation.

Yeah well, there are other extremes in this scenario. https://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/03/opinion/when-a-school-board-victimizes-kids.html?_r=0 at least in most public schools, the kids that want to learn can. Albany High is a sterling example of that. They offer more AP Courses than any other school for 100 miles. They put more kids in IVY's than any other school for 100 miles. If you are taught at home to want to succeed, the Sky's the limit. And you know what, that's something people from this city should actually be proud of. No school is perfect, but Albany High does excel with the students that are willing to try.
It seems that your comment contains 1 or more links that are hard to tap for mobile users. I will extend those so they're easier for our sausage fingers to click!

According to The Weather Channel (warning: automatically playing video, but you can scroll past it to see the charts):
The average first snowfall date is November 16th.
The earliest recorded is October 4th.
The average snowfall for the whole season is 59.2". I'd bet on a bit more than average, because we're supposed to have a bad winter. I'd believe that now, considering that we're a few weeks early for the first snow.
1123 Central Ave. in Colonie. It's called Pizza Central and it's damn good. I always liked the cheap single slices they have. Though I never bought a full pie from them. Try em out.
/u/phrstbrn Speed tests are often misleading as telcoms will make sure that you have an open pathway to the speedtest.
Try Fast.com - it's hosted by Netflix, so a telcom can't throttle Netflix without throttling Fast.
You may be looking for local answers only, but I bought succulents in bulk on amazon and they were beautiful, from California.
I used to have a cheap $20 antenna that I would stick in the window. It worked pretty well, but I get a slightly stronger signal with this one. The old one didnt work as well with rain or bad weather.
I got a HotCat off Amazon. Claims to have a 120 mile range. I put it up inside by the window, facing SouthWest and have crystal clear picture most of the time. I get CBS, Fox, NBC and WTEN along with several other channels.

The male end looks correct, but I'm not sure about the female end. Is that the same connector as the angled adapter? They look different to me.
I'm running the card because my mobo doesn't have a dedicated USB-c header that would connect to the cable I posted earlier (from the case I/O). The card doesn't have any ports - it's just an adapter to plug the USB-c cable into the mobo (via PCI/e).

Oh, when I said "light up flag" I didn't simply mean a flag that is lit at night like normal, that's pretty normal and I wouldnt complain about that, though it is not my style personally. I mean literally it is a flag of lights. Like imagine an American flag made out of bright Xmas lights instead of fabric lol. Kinda like this, but bigger.
I don't believe any of the flags on his pole are the American flag. He only has the light-up flag hanging off his balcony railing.
Either way really, usually these kinds of people are hypocrites through and through and don't realize half the contradictions their fanaticism present, so I don't think pointing out his potential disrespect would do much unfortunately (except endanger my ability to pet his cute pup, which would be sad for me).
Cohoes is a really cute, up-and-coming city. It has beautiful architecture and an interesting historic past. Plus, the Cohoes Falls are stunning. The city has a lot of potential it just hasn't quite been realizing that full potential yet. As for meeting people, I always like to get involved in organizations to meet people of similar interests - Make A Wish, the local library board or historic society. And I agree that Meetup.com is a great way to meet people around here.
It's pretty typical I think, I looked back at the records for any given year and winter swings all over the place, we just don't remember because it was also normal back then and we were too young to care much about it. There's almost always a January thaw, and almost always a fools spring in February.
February 1998 went from 45 to 15 over a couple of days and then back over 40 to finish the month.
February 13th 2005 was a high of 50, 2 days later the overnight low was 5.
February 17th 2008 was a high of 55 then a steady decline to lows below zero heading into March.
Here's an archive that you can play around with. Almost every February is similar in that it swings wildly at least once, if not twice. https://www.wunderground.com/history/monthly/us/ny/latham/KALB/date/2022-2
Oh it's even less for Glenmont it's right on the city line. A lot of people who live in Albany shop at the Walmart there vs the Western Ave one. When I went to college and lived on Campus around Albany Medical Center, that was the Walmart we all went to.
I might have embellished on the time, it's closer to 20 mins for me, I'm the next town south by about 9 miles. I work in Rensselaer and pass through that area either via 9W or the NYS Thruway.
Anecdotally, so far this entire winter season, only Monday morning, January 17th 2022 was a day I would have stayed home if I wasn't already. We are remote because of the surge and cause we can - fuck it. Snow started late the night before into the morning of that day and was done by dawn. Roads were 100% by noon.
We are going to get fucking walloped Thursday and Friday, should be interesting: https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/ny/glenmont/KALB
Just got my card this week, and also used NuggMD. There's a Groupon for it that saved me a decent amount of money on the consultation price (used a coupon code on Groupon too to save even more). The appointment itself was incredibly easy. I did provide details in the notes about my condition causing chronic pain and what traditional treatments I had tried and failed. The doctor called me, said I absolutely qualified based on the notes I typed in, and that was that. It did take about 27 hours for my official certification to be emailed to me though. Once I got it, I registered with the state, printed my temporary card, and went to Rise/FP Wellness to buy stuff.
Not much cheaper $5-$8 is pretty standard but I've been to dr. milk twice and both times I was disappointed. They add an overpowering amount of sugar and it drowns out any flavor the tea base might have had. Gong Cha is probably the best place in town they start at $5.50 and let you customize your tea if you do want it to be super sugary. Plus the rest of their menu is great you can tell they specialize in tea drinks.
Personally I bought tapioca pearls some reusable straws online and I just make my own when I want it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003IHFGK6?ref=nb\_sb\_ss\_w\_as-reorder-t1\_ypp\_rep\_k0\_1\_9&amp=&crid=8P4NJK15941I&amp=&sprefix=tapiioca+. Infinitely cheaper and I can make it exactly how I like it.
Yeah I went right to Amazon for this before I saw it on sale.
I'm sorry it was $129 for 6 of them but free shipping. Still a good deal in my opinion
Is this something you can try on your own?
We signed my daughter up at the Y twice. She's not neurodivergent but even she had trouble paying attention during class. She got bored and wasn't having a great time of it. And I thought that was weird because she loved jumping into the pool from the side and playing in the water when I held her.
It turns out, all she needed was a couple of big kid friends in the pool. Then, she just wanted to do what THEY were doing. She learned so much faster that way.
Also, this is worth mentioning, a lot of kids don't like the feeling of water on their face or around their nose. When my nieces were at my father's house, they had a full face mask. My daughter tried it on, loved it, and immediately swam the full length of the pool (32 feet) AND back on her first try! What's nice is that their face stays (mostly) dry and they don't have to coordinate their stroke with taking a breath. So my daughter was way more calm and just focused on floating and kicking. That is the ONE thing we did that made the biggest difference. It wasn't long before she was jumping into the deep end and swimming to the shallow end without a mask. All she needed was the confidence and comfort that mask gave her.
Good luck!

So the comment about the shirt and hoodie is absolutely correct- but make sure it has pockets in the front to keep their hands warm. I just have 1 additional suggestion that my High Schooler has:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09J8HHDHB
A USB Heated Vest. On the super cold days he puts this on under his hoodie, plugs in a USB pack and stays warm at the bus stop/ on the bus- and then just takes it off in school and shoves it into his backpack. (we have a friend in VT who uses a USB heated scarf- its easier and smaller, but my son wanted the vest).
BTW- not sure they do this in TX, but around here none of the kids use their lockers, they just carry everything in their backpack- so make sure they have a good one. My kid doesn't even know where his is.

Yeah I noticed it too. Dew point and temp were trending very close in the morning hours at my weather station right up until the sunrise "after drop". We had some very light but fluffy flurries overnight also. You don't usually see that high of an RH with that cold of a temp... for the most part.
Not as creepy as Ted Pepper. Way back in the day, Ted Pepper owned a Chrysler / Plymouth dealership, and I believe he was arrested (and later died in jail) for giving discounts to a woman who brought her teenage daughter to him for sex. Here's an article about his arrest.

I'm a bit of an obsessive hiker and use https://www.alltrails.com/ to find good hikes in the area. To be fair, there are terrible drivers everywhere in the US. It's just a product of the fact that you barely need a pulse to get a license here, and the lack of comprehensive, challenging federalized road test. It also doesn't help that most drivers have never operated a manual transmission vehicle. The stop/go nature of automatics just lends to more distracted drivers, especially when you factor in cellphone usage and the proliferation of touch-screens media controls in most modern cars.
That said, it does seem much more noticeable in Albany. Aside from all the stupid shit I see other drivers doing on a daily basis, I'm also amazed at how terrible drivers are at parallel parking here. Living on a narrow 1-way street, I probably see 5+ cars a day sitting diagonal or at least 12" off the curb.

Uh, why don't you just fly into Albany airport? There are flights from MSP to ALB all day long. I count way more than one flight... They're also all similarly priced to LGA.

It's a 3 hour drive from LGA to ALB if you rent a car. A bus or train will be longer. I'd just take the plane even if it means you have a layover, the plane will be faster and cheaper.
Gladly!
When you say "front End development" I assume you mean web dev front end, if this is not the case let me know, I'll try and keep my advice as free of my opinions as possible.
You'll want to start with HTML -> CSS -> JS, khanacademy, theodinproject I really like the Odin Project as it focuses only on web development.
Some folks might tell you to just jump into JavaScript (JS) I would caution against this, HTML + CSS won't take that long to get a grasp on, HTML is just a mark up language, CSS is a way of styling it, and while CSS has a lot of complexity and trickiness to it, you don't need to learn all that right away just enough to build a simple page.
Once you have that under your belt, learning JS and a JS framework will be a bit easier, but more importantly you'll have a better grasp on what it is doing for you, and how the whole thing works.
Once you start looking at the back end, contrary to what a lot of folks say, PHP is not dead, and I would recommend learning PHP 7.x, it'll teach you a lot about how the client browser server relationship works.

It's really not that hard to mow all the grass clippings to one side of or the middle of the lawn if you don't have a bagger and it takes like 15-20 minutes to bag the shit with a rake.
They also make things like yard/leaf bag funnels.

I really enjoyed this book. It's kind of a micro history of the Pine Hills neighborhood, but it also paints a picture of how Albany developed overall.
O, Albany! William Kennedy's collection about the most interesting chapters in Albany's history. Perfect for your needs.

I'm not aware of any shops that do this, but working in security and being a technologist this is kinda my jam!
So first off, what's your threat model, that is to say what are you trying to avoid? Is it neighbors snooping on you? Avoid your ISP catching you pirate? Hackers? Government dragnet surveillance? The first is the easiest to handle the other two are doable to some degree.
Second, what hardware do you already have? What's you budget? You said existing setup I'm assuming you mean your existing stuff, and not that you have an existing VPN service.
All in all its actually pretty straight forward, depending on your router, most decent mid tier and up routers have a pretty simple VPN set up page.
As to which VPN, my go to recommendation is ProtonVPN. Hereis a great VPN guide if you have specific needs or wants, or are just curious.
If you have further questions I'd be more than glad to help you out!
You should try this, I have some old carbon steel for knives my father gave me and this will sharpen them. The first time takes a while to get the angle but after that it’s a quick touchup. I know it’s pricey, but my first one lasted 20 years and it will sharpen every knife you own. You can always return it if you don’t like it. Think eating outdoors near this thing.
It’s been a few years since bought it so there might be something similar that is cheaper now. It is a heavy bulb but it fits in a regular floor or desk lamp. The one for my citrus is in a clamp lamp. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BRKT56T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_n11JFbBRW6387?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I spent my $1200 stimulus check on stuff. Got a nice $600 elliptical since i have bad knees and can't run outside. It's honestly way more convenient havkng the stuff at home that i would normally use at the gym.

That bad boy was worth every penny too. I'm 6'3, and its like a perfect size for me.
We ordered an Intex pool from Target 2 weeks ago.

Of course they're all sold out now. Just smashing your F5 key and you may get lucky.
The above link is a reseller. That same pool is usually $20-30 and they have it for $200.
Wow thanks. I’ll send you a DM later if that’s ok? I am trying to connect a laptop. One issue I’ve realized is I’m missing a power cord for one of the monitors. Probably lost in the move and the second I buy a new one I’ll find it lol. But that only explains one monitor. The other one I can’t get to turn on either and I’m wondering if I just don’t have a good dock.
This is the dock I have Kensington USB 3.0 Dual Display Docking Station for Windows, Mac OS and Surface Pro (K33972US) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009F7E730/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VpcwDbK9NGRSP
And here’s my setup. https://imgur.com/gallery/izMMkoL
Amazon is pretty safe, and I doubt you'll find anything close to this awesome at the costumer.
I mean, save for the time he worked for Jim Tedisco's failed House campaign and the book he wrote after, he was the only weekend morning anchor they ever had. Given this market, that's telling.
Currently a "lightning deal" on some of them on amazon. Not many varieties in stock though. as /u/blamdin said there was a store on central but it's closed, don't think there are any other options around. https://www.amazon.com/Walkers-Shortbread-Fruit-Pudding-16-Ounce/dp/B0040WE8QQ/
