I don't think it matters to Alex Bregman if Correa is around or not.
> Bregman, though, didn't give a shit that he was playing in his first post-season. He didn't give a shit that he was only 23. He didn't give a shit about pressure. After suffering the embarrassment of failing to sign Brady Aiken, the Astros had turned their focus to Bregman in part because of his skills, but also because their scouts had reported that he really, truly didn't give a shit about anything but winning baseball games. Two and a half years later, he still didn't.

Hi guys,
/r/baseball mod here. Just wanted to remind you that SI writer/author of Astroball, Ben Reiter, is participating in an AMA on the sub at 2 pm Eastern. Come on over to submit your questions!
I am not an expert, I'll be the first to admit this and that I never played any significant level of baseball, but I believe that it has to do with the rotation of the pitch. IMO, If I understand correctly, the slider is more a horizontal rotation on a slider rather than a traditional 12-6 Curve which is on a Vertical rotation typically. If the ball is slicker as a lot of players have been claiming, I'd imagine that a 12-6 curve is still atleast pretty effective typically, while an un-natural motion to go horizontal would be less effective without a solid grip.
Again though, I didn't play any significant baseball, I just love the game and read a bunch, but this is something I'd guess.
If interested in the specifics and all the things behind the scenes you may check out Astroball . Was definitely a lot of rough years but it made coming out the other side that much sweeter.
The Astros and scout Andres Reiner, under GM Gerry Hunsicker, were the first team to break into the Venezuelan baseball scene in 1989 when they opened a baseball academy there.
If you haven’t heard ’em yet here’s Sparky’s game 4 postgame clubhouse interviews.

I know there was bad blood with Porter, but I'm not sure about Luhnow. Here's an article from when he was playing here this last April. Shows a pic of him and Luhnow talking/laughing. In this article, he states he deserved to be let go. It also says he still keeps in touch with several of the Astros players. I'm sure he wants to stay in Detroit, but the transition back to Houston might not be that bad. http://www.espn.com/blog/detroit-tigers/post/_/id/1403/j-d-martinezs-rise-to-stardom-started-when-the-astros-let-him-go
He's been losing some percentage points lately (he used to be at 85%). Seeing that he lost 5% last year makes me think that if he gets in, it will be terribly close.
Try building a Linux Live USB (flash drive). Then, boot from that drive. See if the hard drive is recognized in Linux. If it isn't there's more diagnostics that can be run on the Linux side.
Let u/thefarkinator know you're in town.
From what I heard, Lustre Pearl East Google Maps: 114 Linden St, Austin, TX 78702 is where they've been at for the past two games. Double check with them to make sure. Traffic getting there may be crazy because of ACL Weekend but you should be fine once in Downtown.
All of Texas and bordering states are blacked out, both Astros and Rangers.
The way I get around it is to sign up for a VPN service. I use GoTrusted and it works really well. I use this every year. Luckily, I'm a T-Mobile customer so they gave all customers a free season of Premium, so now I only pay for the VPN service.
If you have Amazon Prime/Video, you can watch or rewatch Ken Burns' Baseball to stave off the shakes. We're halfway through it now; I welcome additional baseball doc recs on Youtube or elsewhere to get us through the rest of the year...
Uh, ok? Are you aware you were just watching a baseball game? The rockets play basketball.
Seriously, man, read up, less than ten bucks on amazon. It’ll show up right to your door.
I cut the cord about 6 months ago and live in the Houston area. I bought a fire stick installed IPVanish on it for my vpn. Used my student discount for MLB Tv and now I watch the games live every night, and listen to them on my phone when I'm not at home.
I watch them on my AppleTV. I signed up for unlocator ($5/month). They instruct you to change your DNS settings to 185.37.37.37 (Unlocator gives you step by step instructions) and you're good to go. I've been doing it for 3 years now.
It's probably that delicious Kool Aid talking, but the weather outlook doesn't look at that terrible to me, tbh. "Periods of rain" an estimate of "up to a half inch" and a high around 50 makes me feel like it might spit for a while but we'll play.
If I'm being completely unbiased and reasonable I would say it's the Milo and/or the baseball gods trying to delay the game a few hours so more of us will be off work to watch.
Wind direction is from the Crawford Boxes to 1st Base. It might pick up in speed later and push right-field homers foul (especially if slicing or hooking).
Cant listen to our boys on the radio?
Mad iheart doesnt stream the games?
Sirius XM mobile app has a free trial and our boys stream there on Astros channel 850
https://www.siriusxm.com/free-trial
Download the app and go to Discover > Sports > scroll down to MLB play by play then find the Astros
or just hit search at the bottom and type in 850
(ps. I dont work for Sirius)
One option is to stream ESPN Radio postseason broadcasts through the TuneIn app. I have, from time to time, have tuned into regular season games through the app, but there is no guarantee that postseason games will be available.
If that's the case, then I would strongly recommend subscribing to Gameday Audio for the postseason. I cannot access the US pricing as an international customer but have been told that the subscription is really inexpensive and blackouts do not apply :)
As a long-time MLB.TV subscriber, I can honestly say that the KBME team rocks and I will be tuning into the broadcasts from work :) PM me for any questions, let's go Stros!

As of semi-recently, in my personal exp., Ad Blocker & Ad Blocker Plus do not work on the site so I strongly recommend using "AdGuard Adblocker" as this isn't a site one would be smart to use "bareback" so to speak. But, yea it is free.
Hello! Dentonite here, “blacked out” despite them not being on air here!
Unlocator is your friend. Just pay for it, change the DNS on your devices to their servers and you’re good to go.
Been doing this for close to a decade and have never had an issue. I get all the playoff games too.
No it should not. Not sure which VPN you might use but they usually can be toggled on/off - switching your apparent location to another of your choosing when on and switching back when off. The target site should not know the difference. That said, I live overseas and have never used a VPN to access because I don't have to. But when I have used a VPN to access streaming content, (like switching location from my home country to the US to watch US-only content) the latency issue does seem to cause some streaming problems. Maybe some VPNs offer better routing? I just use a free VPN (Betternet) for occasionally accessing blocked sites from where I live. Maybe some of the paid VPNs are better, or they work better in the USA due to connectivity with the spoofed location.
I use PIA - Private Internet Access.
Frequently said to be one of the better ones. They have a program you can install on Windows machines (maybe Mac too? I dunno) that pushes all traffic on that machine through it.
They also just announced a Chrome extension which pushes only the traffic in the browser through the VPN I think.
Or you can opt not to use their apps and just use something like OpenVPN or go through your router. Lots of options.
No problem. VPN stands for "Virtual Private Network" and allows you to route your web traffic through other geographical zones (along with other security applications for businesses).
Basically though, it establishes a secure connection between your computer and another anywhere you choose from the VPN's server list (so, in another country).
When you go to watch a game on , they see the server you connect to as the receiver and allows the game to play no matter what. It then routes that stream to your computer for consumption.
Good ones are cheap. I use Private Internet Access. Something like $40 a year. There are then other reasons to have it if you are a cord cutter, but that's for another story or /r/cordcutters
I use Unlocator, which is a VPN type setup. Doesn't degrade quality at all, only costs $5/mo, and is super easy to set up. Took like 5 minutes for me and I'm usually terrible with that stuff. It's easy to cancel as well once you're done with it.
One big advantage is that it works for all devices on your home network so you can watch on Xbox, Apple TV, Chromecast, etc. instead of just your computer.
It also spoofs location for other things like ESPN 3, Netflix, etc.
How does he access ?
Computer - very easy. Get Zenmate for your browser. Other devices there are ways, but it may require you get a 3rd party proxy or DNS. Google it and there are plenty of posts on reddit and elswhere.
It allows you to spoof location for all devices on your home network simultaneously, or individual ones if you choose (including Apple TV).
I use it constantly, have never had a problem and it's super easy to set up. Only catch is that it's $5/month, but easy to cancel. I only pay during baseball season then cancel the renewal after.
Check it out and see what you think. If you decide to use it and I can help any further, shoot me a PM.
A VPN should also work. Buy a subscription from a reliable source. They're cheap. I use Private Internet Access. $30 for a year I think.
And it can be useful for other things if you're a cordcutter.
Yup, mine is doing this now. At first it would take me to a screen saying "We cannot verify your location" and asked for Credit Card/Billing info. Tried using Stealthy, Zenmate and Hola. Nothing works. Does anyone have a good illegal stream?

Yeah, the Weather Channel has a 65% rain chance at the start of the game as of writing this comment. There's also a flood warning through the afternoon and a flood watch through tomorrow evening. I'd be surprised if the game isn't postponed.
There is a story about how Ernest Hemingway was challenged to write a six word story. He came up with "For sale. Baby shoes. Never Worn." But that is probably not true.
http://www.openculture.com/2015/03/the-urban-legend-of-ernest-hemingways-six-word-story.html
In case anyone is looking for an easy way to stream the games without cable, you can signup for a free 7-day trial of YouTube TV. Should get you through the first 5 games, if it even takes the 'stros 5 games ;)
There are only two acceptable manga: Naruto, and BLAME!. BLAME! is currently being re-released as a 6-volume "master series," and I am ALL OVER THAT. Amazon link to vol. 1, for funsies.
There are only three acceptable non-movie anime: Cowboy Bebop, GiTS:SAC, and Samurai Champloo. DBZ doesn't count because it's fucking timeless and impervious to judgement.
Acceptable anime movies is a more broad category, but there still are strict standards: Akira, GiTS, Princess Mononoke, Spriggan, Vampire Hunter D, and Ninja Scroll. There are others (basically anything Miyazaki touches is gold), but, as with all anime, it is easy to go wrong.
And now you know... the rest of the story. (Paul Harvey reference, don't worry about it.)
Buy (keyword: buy) a VPN. They're cheap. I use Private Internet Access which has an Android app (that even works on Android TV), desktop app, etc.
Or use one of a few Chrome extensions that change your place.
Don't use free VPNs.
I've been using for 15 years now, can't say enough good things about it.
As for the local blackout, I haven't had to do anything with my account, but you could initiate the stream with a VPN and then turn it off (I recommend Private Internet Access, if you want to pay for it, it's very reasonably priced).
Another potential option: I had CBS's streaming service for Texans games. I used my cell phone, alter my GPS location to Houston, and stream the local CBS feed instead of LA's. I'm lazy, so I'm not going to check now, but you could see if requests your location (you can spoof this) or tries to guess your location through your IP address. After making the initial connection, you could cast to your tv using a chromecast.
never used that VPN before but I used Hola last year and it started doing the same thing towards the end of the season...
went ahead and subscribed to ExpressVPN and haven't had any issues thus far. At first I tried San Fransisco and got the blackout message so I tried the UK and that's worked so far. Try changing your location to UK if you haven't already? Idk good luck mayne
I live where Stros are blacked out but I use Unlocator with mlb tv subscription. It's incredibly easy to use and works great. I can watch them on tv/xbox/pc. It's like $5/mo if you pay monthly and you can even get a free trial first.
I had to do this all of last year. I've recommended it as the streams are watchable, but if OP is willing to pay some money, I'd go the route with a VPN.
is $110 (T-Mobile customers get it free for the year if you sign up soon) and a good VPN (such as Private Internet Access) is $40 for a year.
You'll get better quality streams, always access the Astros broadcast (the mlbstreams streams were way more often on the other teams broadcast), watch up to 4 games at once, etc..
The way it work with GoTrusted, I download a VPN client after I have signed up for the service. So this is to only one device, but you can download the client to other devices like a desktop or computer. I have it both my Surface Pro and desktop.
Then when the client is installed, I go into the settings and tell it the region I want, which I select UK. After that I sign in.
Once the VPN client is signed in, then I go to and login as usually and watch the game.
As for other devices like AppleTV and tablets, I know there's a way to get the VPN settings onto Apple and Android devices, but just havent done it myself. There are instructions on the service site, but since I use my windows devices, I just stick to that.
I live in Louisiana and am subject to the same blackouts. subscription and a VPN is all you need. This is the one I used last year and it worked great.
This particular one works on mobile and web based browsers. There are some out there than can be installed on ps3/ps4. I have not had a single issue with the VPN installed on the ipad/iphone and then casting it to the TV via chromecast. There are some free VPNs as well but they aren't as reliable. I have used the free version of Zenmate before and cast the google chrome tab to the tv. It would buffer a bit so it was frustrating to watch.
I recommend using Private Internet Access, and make think I'm in Germany. For anyone using this method, make sure to connect to ONLY AFTER connecting to the Private Internet Access VPN FIRST, otherwise will figure out what you're doing, and still tell you it's blacked-out.
This. Then you can cast it to the tv via Google Chromecast
Edit: download the Zenmate extension in Google Chrome. It's a free VPN that you can easily turn on/off. Once installed, open a new tab, turn the vpn on and select a country, then open to get to the game you want to watch. To cast it to the tv via chromecast, download the chromecast extention (Google Cast) for chrome, open the game video stream into a new tab then hit the cast button. I travel a good bit between Beaumont and Nola and this is how I watch them wherever I'm at.
The cast will stream slightly behind the video feed from the computer. Every once in a while it'll buffer up on me but it's very reliable
Hmm, I am a bit late to the party, but it's worth noting that /u/Astros_alex, /u/jdb12 and /u/Stroger20 suggested ZenMate.
Using ZenMate is probably a bad idea. Back a while ago, they use to sell your information including a lot of your browsing habits. The site's operators are apparently very good with SEO, as I can't find any of my old sources on this. They also introduced a few vulnerabilities in browsers, and made your connection shared (similar to who TOR works, but less protections on it).
All in all, it's better to pay for a VPN than to use ZenMate. I use to use Private Internet Access (PIA), but MLB blocked all PIA IP addresses. /r/VPN maintains a very good spreadsheet, and includes as little logging as possible. Check out their site and see how many different states they have access to if they are US based. You will need at least 2 non-Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana states. These VPNs will also keep you safer on the general internet too.
You could try TunnelBear. It has a free service with a limited bandwidth, but you can turn it off once the stream starts. Otherwise you can stream it through another site. There should be a few posted here in an hour or so:
Yeah, free ones are generally terrible. They also don't protect you if you're going to download content.
I use "Private Internet Access" and works well. My speeds stay 60-80% of the normal max speed (105mbps).
They have a program you can install and does the VPN setup. You can then easily switch between locations, US and global.
Lol dvd doesn’t give you the series bruh…. You have to pay attention.
What I'm currently using that seems to work
I did initially try this on a Amazon Firestick but the game kept buffering and was unwatchable, and definitely was not my internet speed/router. I have had no such issues since using it on the Xbox
Yes it is. It just probably isn't compatible with your device and it doesn't show up when you search for it. It doesn't show up for me either on my s22 ultra.

Listen here if you wanna hear Sparky get drunk and interview Astros. You may have to be in range of the radio station idk
That is really odd. Also strange that you've been on hold with the box office. Every time I've tried calling I get connected in about 5 minutes max. Is there a different time of day you could try maybe?
Also, maybe you could try a privacy card? This is what I use for free trials so I don't forget and get charged. Its free as well.
Lastly, have you tried just going to a resale site? Prices are always about the same, if not sometimes a bit better and are 100% legit.
Hope you can get it sorted!
His swing is such a mess this year. Too late to fix it, just have to ride it out & get him into Papa Bryant's Magical Batting Cage in the offseason.

you can read more about it on their website. i am not savvy enough to explain it, but i think with their service, you change the dns address on your devices (there are guides), and as long as the device is on the wifi network you are signed up under, they trick the service in to thinking you are somewhere else and thus get you around the blackout.
it is alot simpler than using and setting up a vpn.
Just FYI, the patches they sold at the game last night weren't any different from the normal mission patches that you can find just about anywhere. Here's a set from Amazon that are the same as the ones last night.
Mods please feel free to delete if this post isn't acceptable. Non-referral links. Just saw it was very cheap and decided to share.
$8.49 for this one.

I might have found it on amazon. Looks like they only have the X,XS and XR. No XS Max which is sadly what I have. Try this link.
Most teams have contracts with RSN's like ATTSW that pay them a hell of a lot of money for exclusive broadcast rights, which is why does the blackouts if you're local - they want you to pay for a cable subscription and watch it via ATTSW or not at all, because that's a huge portion of the team's income.
As others have said on here, you can use a VPN or DNS service like Unlocator to stream, or /r/mlbstreams if you don't want to pay. VPNs and DNS services have trouble with mobile devices like Android/Iphone because GPS will give it away, but use Unlocator or a VPN with a PC and you're good to go.
I used to use Unlocator and it worked perfectly but I would have to remember to disable it to use Netflix. If you don’t want to bother with that try Private Internet Access (PIA) which allows Netflix to work with your home region but disguises everything else.
I use a combo of Unlocator & since I just love baseball & will watch whatever seems interesting if the Astros aren't on. Unlocator has great support & fixed a blackout issue within an hour early in the season. Never had another issue.
I don't mind paying for my streaming options but blackout restrictions suck & I feel no guilt in avoiding them.
Yep. I use Private Internet Access.
They have an Android app that can be installed on an Android TV box (such as a Shield TV).
Once activated, the MLB app for Android has no idea.
Android TVs can be cheap. Xiaomi makes one that's sub-$100 at Walmart.
If I could start a game from the beginning, rewind, etc. with /r/mlbstreams I'd dump completely..
Though I don't use it on PC, you can also watch up to 4 games simultaneously via website with subscription.. I think XBox version has similar functionality, but PS4 and FireTV do not..
Edit: as mentioned above, VPNs work if your device doesn't report GPS (stupid FireTV stick does, hence going the DNS route with Unlocator)..
I downloaded IPVanish vpn on my firestick and use the MLB tv app. I've never had a problem with this set up and being using it since last year. Vpn doesn't work on mobile though since it uses gps to track your location.
I use Private Internet Access. I see my speeds drop by about 20% when doing speedtest. Still WAY more than any stream needs though.
There was a Chrome extension that also could do the location part. Not sure what it was called or if it still worked.
I just like having access to a VPN and go that route. Good ones are cheap and are very valuable if you're a cordcutter.
When the VPN is turned on, you cannot cast anything. I'm not sure what the technical explanation is for it, but casting gets blocked. I assume because it seems like you are on two different networks.
I am unsure if this will work, but if you have an android TV, you might be able to install both MLB tv and your VPN app of choice (I use Private Internet Access) from the play store and use it directly on the tv without casting. I don't have one so I can't really test it though.
Not expecting anyone is still on this thread but the free VPN I mentioned, Betternet, does not have bad reviews. Although it does what I need, as mentioned above there are some things to consider. It appears Betternet passes info to "third parties" for their use and they wipe their hands of any consequence. Who the 3rd parties are and whether the guest is someone you want in your party is unclear. So, that's not good. Read the Privacy Policy. Whether a free or paid VPN. And make your call.
Can be pretty simple if doing it on a PC. With mobile, AtBat also uses Location services so VPN is not enough to get around it.
I use PrivateTunnel. Create account and download app to PC, connect to a server outside your area (Chicago usually works, London during playoffs) and sign in to MLB streaming site.
Awesome! Thanks! Torguard is great. Your get so many other uses out of it. Like if your on a network with filtering, fire that bad boy up and you'll be able to watch all the porn you want. Lol
Great app!

Use a VPN service and set your location to somewhere out of market. I use Private Internet Access. If you want to use it on Android you need a VPN and a rooted phone so you can spoof your location. Not sure about iOS.
Hola didn't work for me. I was in the market for a VPN provider anyway, so I went ahead and bit the bullet and picked up VyprVPN. I get a ton more benefit from it over just proxying through other states, but it is the fastest VPN. My network speeds are almost entirely unaffected.
If anyone else wants to sign up for it, PLEASE PM ME!! I have a link I can drop you where we both get a free month!
Ninja edit: Got because I work nights, but I do like to watch em live on my weekends. So VyprVPN was the best option for me, given other needs as well.
They're called Private Internet Access (PIA), but it does look compatible. Otherwise, they have a nice little downloadable client for Mac and Windows machines.

Cool display, but how come you keep your bobbleheads in the box for display purposes?
Also, I think if you got some clear acrylic risers (also can search for acrylic spice racks), you can get some levels to the display to give everything good visibility.
