You can get a cover that is lockable for the outlet while still having your charger plugged in. You’ll have to see what you’re able to access for your particular outlet while looking for one. We have those so our kid doesn’t unplug it.

There are kits that you can buy. The first to is a rasp that you push in the hole to rough it up. Then there is a punch that you push the plug in with. The plug is a strip of spoungey reinforced rubber that is sticky; they give you some cement to put on it in and it folds over doubling up; when you extract, it cut then end of the plug in half. Cut the excess off with a razor blade and put a little more cement on it. It will last longer than the tire tread will on these tires. I have never had one fail.
This kit is $16, but it comes with a ton of plugs:

I've used the Juicebox 40 for almost 3 years now without issue. The latest version is rated for outdoor installs and they do have a non-hard wired option so you can unplug it and remove it easily. It has some nice wifi features for controlling and monitoring charging remotely that seem to work well, but honestly I have rarely used them. Just plug the card in and you can rely on it being properly charged when you return.

I found the install to be pretty fun personally. As long as you follow the instructions in the videos and are very careful with the panel removals (and reinstalls) it should go pretty smoothly.
$800 is way too much money. The ozone treatment won't fix it, for one thing, and neither will a cabin air filter. There's stuff growing on the A/C evaporator coil.
I've used this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/nextzett-96110515-Klima-Cleaner-Conditioner-Cleaner/dp/B0002Z2MKO it's made in Germany. It comes with a long tube that you insert into the ducts. Works best if you can get it into the blower side of the evaporator coil.
If you're not mechanically inclined, any local repair shop should be able to do it for you for a lot less than $800.
I got a Heatshield, too. It fits perfectly, although it is big. That's not its fault though. The i3 has a big windshield.
Here is a wall holster for the handle.
You can search "J1772 Holster" on amazon and you'll get quite a few hits.

BMWs have these little cutouts at all the jack points. I have a Mini Cooper (BMW product) and bought some of these jack pads that fit into the slots to meet a jack or scissor lift. They give it more stability. I'm surprised that cars don't come with them.
Basically, carbon fiber is not forgiving, and I don't want to screw anything up!
It’s expensive right now, but it sometimes has big discounts. You can also find the San product for lower price on AliExpress https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087R9LZBV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_1N49XG1GKJ9P0JQ66PF3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I'm sure they make similar ones for full-sized USB connectors. I don't remember off the top of my head which fuse you tie into, but I can grab a pic next time I'm in the car.
I started with a fully charged battery, then plugged the L1 charger into a KILL-O-WATT meter I had and noted the milage. I also changed the L1 charge setting on the car to REDUCED while using that Meter inline. Then I just drove and charged for 2 weeks as normal.
After 2 weeks I checked the meter after the final charge, noted the actual kWh used, then noted the milage.
Got my Electric Bill and looked at the rate which is 6.57¢ per kWh. But that is without taxes and fees. So I took the total bill and divided it by the kWh used to find the actual cost per kWh including taxes and fees. That was 14¢ per kWh.
I just took the kWh consumed number from the KILL-O-WATT meter and multiplied it times 0.14 to get the actual COST of the electricity need to charge the car over that 2 weeks.
I only charge at home so that made it rather easy.
No problem, happy to help. Also I wanted to add I was mistaken about Nema 5-30, meant nema 10-30. My splitter wasn't exactly cheap at around $60. Also, it needs an extra ground so it has a wire running to the ground of a standard 110 outlet in addition to plugging into the existing dryer outlet.
This is the one I went with.
I use the iOttie iTap magnetic mount: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IPJT6OI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It is stuck with adhesive just above the programmable buttons on the center dash. Phone mounts in landscape orientation. From my driving position, it does not block the iDrive screen at all. Also puts the phone within arms length for touch screen use.
I got it last year for my Android phone. This required mounting a metal plate on the back of the phone so it would stick to the magnetic mount. Worked fine through my phone case. Now I have an Iphone 12 with MagSafe so I just got a MagSafe charger and leave it stuck to the mount (the back of the MagSafe charger is metal). Now I can pop the phone on there one-handed and never have to fiddle with a charging cable.
I use one of these SCOSCHE MAG12VB magnetic mounts combined with a short Lightning cable to mount/charge my iPhone SE 2020. YMMV, but it is able to charge my phone while it's continually running Waze.
The connection in the under-dash 12V plug is tight and secure. I'll probably need to use the larger magnet on the phone. The smaller one that I use (cuz I didn't want to cover the Apple logo) holds the phone pretty well, but a decent bump is liable to dislodge it. If you have a giant, heavy phone you might consider something else. It works great for me, though.
Absolutely. I also have this tray for the steering wheel (I bought it for my i3 now but use it in my Model Y). Helps make it much easier to work.
Tesla Model 3 Model Y... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0894CPR25?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Same here! The road top one seems to be popular. Looking to do something similar for my new to me 2017 BEV
There are two things here:
"Tesla Destination Chargers" - these are the same as "Level 2" chargers that are common for home charging, and at many "around town" locations that don't spring for full DC rapid chargers. These are, in fact, the same thing as a standard level 2 EVSE, just with a Tesla plug instead of a J-1772 plug. You can get adapters for these that let any EV charge at a Tesla Destination Charger. (Or use a Tesla home charger.)
"Tesla Superchargers" - these are 100% proprietary. While early on, Elon did say that the Tesla charging system would be "open" - it required that another automaker who wanted to use it needed to give Tesla royalty-free licenses to all their EV-related patents. Semi-obviously, no other automaker took them up on the offer, not even the automakers who made EVs with Tesla powertrains (Toyota with the second gen RAV4 EV and Mercedes with the B-class Electric.) So while those two vehicles have Tesla motors and batteries, and there are even third-party CHAdeMO conversions for them (both came with only "Level 2" AC charging,) there is no conversion to support a Supercharger.
Neither Elon nor Tesla have made any statements about Superchargers being "open" in years. I don't know if Elon's offer is still valid or not, but since the system relies on two-way communication with the vehicle, and that vehicle having a valid Tesla account with billing information, I wouldn't hold your breath.
What I think is more likely is that at some point Tesla switches to CCS as they have in Europe, then the Supercharger network will be just another CCS network that any CCS EV can plug in to.
I did notice these on amazon but not sure I like the carbon fiber look. The feedback on them seems good. https://www.amazon.com/Premium-Splash-Guards-Compatible-2014-2020/dp/B08836XKGG

Go to the app store and look up Bimmer code and download it.
Here is the user guide once you have downloaded the app. https://www.bimmercode.app/support/
Pretty easy to do once you have both. NOTE - when you code - your car may make some weird alarms and the car will re-start every time you code. Dont be afraid. This is normal.
i use a juicebox 40, works great and looks nifty. you can even lock the charger into the dock so people don't mess with it- not the cheapest option out there though.
a decent plug-in one by siemens is on sale on amazon now, fyi.
Most people code in the override on the US gas tank from 1.9 gallons. Also code your preferred start up driving mode.
I used this adapter from Amazon, it was on the Bimmercode endorsed list:

Maybe consider 220/240v instead of 210? Just a thought.
Anyways I used to have a cheap MUSTART L2 charger that died after 18 months so I recently shopped around for something new and ended up purchasing the Basic GRIZZL-E . No apps or Smart Features. You an also get a version that can be hardwired so no plug needed. This was based on reviews of others I have recently read. Made in Canada. Seems to be a solid item. I would be wary of any cheaper no-name L2 chargers made in China these days.
You can buy those online too, just depends on what type of locks OP has installed currently. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/BELEY-Removal-Anti-Theft-Remover-Adapter/dp/B07QT7BL6V/
So long as you can tell the general shape of it, you will know at least one of those in the set will match your wheels.

I don't know what laptop you have, but if 100w is enough and you're only needing USB-C, I'd suggest one of these

If you need the AC outlet, get the inverter,
I have a dog and have been using a dog hammock
Similar to this:
What I do is loop the straps through the hole on the front headrest.
The reason I'm mentioning this is when my dog isn't in the car, I unhook the backseat straps and push it flat against the back of the front seats.
This covers the back of the front seats, the floor, and the back seat up to where you actually sit. And fits flush because the floor is completely flat.
I know it's not ideal but it might serve as a cheap solution while you find something better.
I had this same issue with my Jeep Grand Cherokee replacement Monroe quick struts. MONROE #172546 Quick-Strut. The geniuses at Monroe decided that dust boots were not needed even though the OEM struts had them. I purchased a nyoln fabric dirt bike shock cover that has Velcro on the long side and elastic on the bottom and slid it in between the spring and the shock. It has been working well for the past 2 months. No real noticeable noise either. A little bit of installation effort, but well worth it. It is well made but a bit steep at $40 for a kit of 2. They are commonly used to protect dirt bike front shocks. amazon.com/dp/B003TPYUQI This may likely work just as well as this: mcmaster.com/7257K6/ I don't own an i3, so I can't test the fit, but hopefully someday I will :D Mcmaster has several diameter "Hook-and-Loop Wrap-Around Sleeving" so if that link doesn't fit, try a different diameter or go amazon route. If I owned an i3 with this problem, I would definitely do this as a stop-gap fix rather than spend a weekend removing and reassembling a strut.
This was the umbrella windshield shade I bought so I can store this in the door pocket. It has a nasty chemical smell. I hung it in the sun for two days. It was better but still nasty smelling so I am returning this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0892CLJNB/. So far, no perfect windshield sunshade that actually stores well in the car.
Found these on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091KT5T18/. They don't smell nasty like the umbrella sunshade I got with this order. I had to fold one side but otherwise it fit perfectly. Blocks all of the Hawaiian sun that comes through on sunny days.
I think this is the one, and it has terrible reviews for Android Auto :-( But seems good for CarPlay https://www.amazon.com/Road-Top-Wireless-2012-2017-MirrorLink/dp/B087R9LZBV. This one goes in the glove box with the antenna under the windshield. Not sure what under the windshield means but that is from this listing.
Another way around the driver door issue is just to buckle the seatbelt. Then you can open the door freely.
Also, I charge my MacBook using just an Anker USB-C adapter from Amazon. One of the ports is 30W, and I just leave it plugged in while I'm driving/working. It's not as high-powered, but it's a whole lot smaller, and I find it to be easy enough to manage unless I just need to charge my laptop quickly.
let me reply here for others as well, hoping this is not against the subreddit rules.
What you're looking for is some variation of "Short Brass Post Adaptor (M6 Thread)", I found them by looking for "etx18l" and the "frequently bought together" links, comments, and skimming at the pictures in the results (I knew what to look for from the reddit post linked above).
I ended up buying the ones here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004XH67B2 which don't have a great review score but... were in stock, and had the "if you order in the next xx hours, they'll be at your door by tomorrow", and I wanted the car back asap. With more time, you may prefer a different model?
Those ones worked out nicely. My only note is that the two posts are not the same diameter: one is very slightly larger, fairly hard to tell unless you really compare them by putting them on top of one another. Use the larger one for the positive, and the smaller one for the negative. Otherwise the clamps/fastener will not be able to close on it tightly enough.
Before realizing that one was larger, and I had to swap them... I was about to mc giver a tin foil wrapping based solution to increase width, although I would have done that against my best judgement.
I grabbed this earlier this week and it's work 100% with Bimmercode - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B085Y5BBXX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Pretty sure he's talking about these:
Easy to install, look great and really help keep mud from being flung onto a rear bike rack.
Glad you're getting confident with the EA network. It's a game-changer in the US.

Regarding this, I was researching this more and a NEMA 10-30 outlet is non-grounded. It is wired as hot-hot-neutral. Apparently, my electrician wasn't even allowed to install a a NEW NEMA 10-30 outlet at all last year.; the receptacles only exist as repairs for existing outlets, supposedly. Actually remembering this, they installed TWO NEMA 10-30 outlets last year, because we had an electric dryer and the home was fitted for a gas one previously.
Right now I have decided to try out the SplitVolt 10-30 charger first since it also supposedly "operates within the NEC safety guidelines" and they're an American company so there's someone I can actually talk to this time around if issues arise. If the fault persists I'll look into a more common 14-50 charger and debate on using something like this or just rip it out and install a 14-50 outlet.
Before doing that I'll ask an electrician through our home warranty this time around; last year the less than stellar electrician was practically our only choice due to COVID, everyone else had 6+ month lead times, and I am starting to see why he was readily available (I already left them a bad review last year) and burned my bridges there with them.

I have the same issue w/ one of my keys, the physical key goes in, but doesn't lock. So if I hold it by just the keyring, the rest of the key just falls (if it bounces/swings around enough)!
I have been looking at covers: https://www.amazon.com/Royalfox-Luxury-Smart-Buttons-Keychain/dp/B07L5SGWGD/ Something like this would cover the entire key and allow you to use a keyring. Let me know if you end up buying something similar.

I have run them parked during a power outage for 2-3 hours.. and can confirm the cooling solution works well.

That's an issue with your charger it should have had overheating protection and shutoff. You need a charger with adjustable amperage and all the protections here is a link two one I been using for 2 years now.
You can also buy a seatbelt end and clip it in to keep the car going. I keep one in my center console, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073S5ZBY4

I know there's one on the BMW World Wide FB Group, I just found it. Pretty sure that's the one I'm thinking of. It's a private group so I can't share a link to it. There's not a TON of info in it, couple of pictures, some discussion. They used the power for the auto dimming mirror, as there can be issues if you use the rain sensor one (w/ the auto headlights, must measure current draw?).
This was the adapter they used:

I used the f&r 15mm spacers I had from my '16 onto my new '18 s just a week ago. I haven't really noticed much of a change as far as handling or stability on the freeway, but they do fill out the fender wells nicely.
Are you talking about these mudflaps ?
I had those as well from my '16, but I didn't think they looked good on the s. If you have some custom ones, post some pictures.
Besides the other answers here, including the "Discharged" message:
If you're concerned, get a battery monitor that attaches DIRECTLY to the battery terminals in the frunk. Do NOT get an accessory/cigarette lighter meter (as those read the DC-DC converter output through the fusebox and other electronics and is NOT accurate).
Great video - thanks for making it.
So that was for a REx? That's good to know - I'll look to get the same Exide as you did then. But just for my edification, do BEVs and RExs need different 12V batteries?
Would the £15 replacement connectors be a different size to the ones already on the battery now? I'd assume that either way, I'd have to trim off the 2mm.
If I go down the avenue of buying from BMW, I understand (based on your notes on the YouTube video) that I still might need to mess about with the terminals! BMW are not making anyone's lives any easier.
I'm going to give BMW a call tomorrow for a quote anyway, just to see how far off Tayna they are.

For reference, this is the Amazon listing I got my relay from. Same identical relay to the old one I removed, same manufacturer, same part number. I got an extra I’m keeping as a spare, along with a T15 screwdriver to remove the glovebox. Just in case…

Here’s something I’ve been using for a few years now. I got the 40-50L large size and it covers the frunk well. Keeps the frunk dry and clean. Your solution is much cleaner though.

The bmw issue chargers are crap had to replace one that was overheating. I would buy this charger I recommend below 25ft version and run it through a regular outlet. Have an electrician check that subpanel you installed it could be the culprit as you don't want to mess up another adapter. This one is a dual charger 110/240 comes equipped with a 240 adapter, LCD screen, timer and all the protections you need.
I used Cerakote on the plastic trim of mine, and it works really well. Protects and makes it shine like new.

or this one which adds level 2 but looks like it comes up a bit short of the 25' you're looking for.
I use something like this. My magsafe charging stopped working because it's probably unlicensed. But the mount works well with the cig lighter port under your A/C controls.
I just plug it in directly now for power and use the magsafe to hold the phone. Perfect position in front of and hove the cupholders IMO

Here you go has timer and LCD screen with 25 feet option best charger imo
Just wanted to say good luck. I have so many rattles to track down. So far this tape, while on the thin side, has proven to be pretty good.

Purchased them off Amazon, H11 switchback bulbs. It’s the high beams turned on however I angled them down to look more like fog lights. I never use the high beams ever not even once so I figured might as well turn them into “fog lights”. I figured it would get a lot of hate but form > function sometimes.
Doesn't fix your problem, but I installed breakaway clips into my cords. One on each side is enough to support it no problem, but it quickly snaps away with significant pressure.

I have one of those wireless ones, I think it is wifi. It was slow and borked my car, something went wrong during a write. As a result I had to drive around for a few days with a ton of CELs and errors. Writing to the car takes a good 2 minutes.
This is what I use now writing to the car now takes about 15 seconds. I should have bought this in the first place. Consider this instead.
This worked great for me.
I store my trickle charger outside in a little plastic box. Keeps it out of the rain. Something like that might help if rain is an issue.

That's a good cord, 10 gauge is thicker than 20A wiring in house (which is 12 gauge).
Make sure when using a cord that the plug you are using has a really good connection.
Also cover you charger/cord connection, I have something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Farm-Innovators-Model-Connect-Water-Tight/dp/B002MHC138/ref=sr\_1\_37?keywords=extension+cord+connection+cover&qid=1638821552&sr=8-37
for just such occasions
Finally make sure you know what amperage your outlet is rated for and what else is running on that outlet and set the charge level accordingly. 80% of max rating if nothing else is on there, lower appropriately to account for other loads.
True, but those 14 gallons are situated outside of the crumble zone, so even in the most desastreus accidents, the gas tank should remain intact. In the i3 however, the frunk is basically the whole crumble zone. https://www.startpage.com/av/proxy-image?piurl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FTfxZ1S65yPs%2Fmaxresdefault.jpg&sp=1621527972Tfadf072387c4732383c144dfd0bbcc977e3e98146fa1ad09726aefa38b6191e9

for anyone else lookin to tow the Harbor Freight trailer, its coupler height is 19 inches. The i3 sport w/ the ecohitch has a coupler height of 10 inches. I used these two to get me to 19 & 3/4 or so:
This appears to be the newest version. Mine didn't work. I tried again a few weeks later, and it appeared to work. It is helpful for sending addresses to the cars navigation, as it can be pretty painful to try to do that from the navigation screen
That’s what I thought, but I’m seeing such conflicting pictures/videos. Some people have this green connector but never actually show it connected and some have the purple and it connects easily and they show it.
The Amazon link I got this from https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B087R9LZBV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_C0A837QACC3W7C42EXZR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 has people with the same year and model having this done successfully too.
I’m so confused on how to get the right one.
Thank you for your input.
That's funny; I did the same thing recently with these air shims: https://www.amazon.com/Sufford-Commercial-Professional-Alignment-Inflatable/dp/B09BFMWCKZ/ with one above the other for two separate adjustments.
That's what they cost new with these options, and they sell like hotcakes out here. Too rich for my blood, but the CPO price is doable. Link to original price sticker: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-xhx35v/i-TQC4Bp3/A
You would remove the outer door panel simply by pulling on it, though you will want some needle nose pliars to fish out the broken clip pieces. It is held on by 11? single use clips that will break and youll need to fish the pieces out of the mechanism. When I pulled mine off, only 2 were reusable. You can swap from 1 time use clips to multiuse clips once you pull it off though: https://www.amazon.com/50Pcs-Panel-51411973500-Column-Headlining/dp/B01M1IR5PT
The door is protected from theft by a lip that goes behind both the front door and the rear panel, so no risk in swapping the clips out. I can post some pics in an hour or so once I'm on lunch.
I've used this multiple times on my i3 and my wife's Crosstrek. It's an excellent tool. I think it'll patch anything up to a 1/4 inch. I've had good luck with it.
Stop & Go 1075 Standard Model Tire Plugger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0018EUDHW/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_A6QRTMY73GM1VSNV7S56?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Lower capacity means I cant leave stuff running forever but the i3 is uniqueish in that its dc-dc converter is always running except cabin lights before startup, connecting the HV, and the 10-15 min of cabin lights til it falls asleep. When the car is charging, it also runs dc-dc to charge the 12v battery, so there is really no need for any longtime running capacity at all.
In a gas car of today, the engine turns off in traffic, stops lights, etc. and the battery has to run the ac system, restart the engine multilpe times, etc. and you need that capacity.
Plus, if I end up being wrong, I just need to pop the hood.
Battery size wise, to give you a comparison, this is 99Wh, and the battery I installed is 128Wh. The OEM Battery is 240Wh. Typically though, you never want to discharge a lead acid below 50% capacity so BMW would've sized the 12v for ~120Wh of usage or less, and a lifepo4 is lithium, which should handle deep discharges better (if needed).
I like the Slime kit. I also bought a small fabric zippered pouch to keep it in.

I’m in the same boat as you OP and bought one of these cover things along with a silicone thing that sandwiches between the connectors. Works great!
I think ppl freak out too much about the extension cord thing. I have a 50ft 12 gauge that barely gets warm on Max speed, but I’ll run it on reduced at night just to be safe and still wake up with a full charge everyday. Occasionally also when out and about I’ll stop at free level 2 or these mini 25kw DC fast chargers that are near me. To add some extra juice in the equation.
I put this trash can in the strap: https://www.amazon.com/Zone-Tech-Portable-Hanging-Garbage/dp/B071LM5P8W
Its slightly too big for the elastic and has stretched it out some, but it otherwise slots in there perfectly.
