Interestingly, it was announced yesterday that Flickr was bought by Smugsmug.
And also, from the Yahoo! Search wikipedia article, Bing is its own competitor: > As of February 2015 [Yahoo! Search] is the third largest search engine in the US by the query volume at 12.8%, after its competitors Google at 64.5% and Bing at 19.8%.
They also seem to have some sort of agreement with Google: > In October 2015, Yahoo subsequently reached an agreement with Google to provide services to Yahoo Search through the end of 2018, including advertising, search, and image search services.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
She hikes up in practical clothes, evaluates the scene, sets up her camera, changes into her dress, then stages what is essentially a one-woman photoshoot. If you're interested in that whole process, there's a video here.
This is nice. I do not know why but this brings back memories from the Early 90's Precision Power days. I love it! For some reason or another, this was my first thought!
Flikr is basically going to be another outlet for Smugmug (the new buyer) to charge ridiculous prices for online photo storage. Can't have your newest acquisition do exactly what you do, except for free.
Easy button: Get a smugmug or zenfolio account and point them at that. Both services will let you set prices for the prints and give your new customers a variety of options for printing.
I like smugmug but both have their strengths/weeknesses:
https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-pxVTcx/
I was so proud when his babies were born. Unfortunately we lost those two babies because they were premature. My other female had a healthy buckling in May that was a really awesome little guy, I sold him about 3 weeks before I lost Noah.
Julia is VERY VERY pregnant and is about to deliver my last offspring from Noah literally any minute now (I've been saying this for 3 weeks now). God please let them be females. I can keep the females but can't the males because of them being related to both my females. Even if she has males I might keep one as a wether.
Per the SmugMug + Flickr FAQ (https://www.smugmug.com/together/faq) there will still be a free version. Pricing will not change at this time.
Will Flickr continue to offer a free version? Will Flickr’s price change?
Absolutely. Flickr’s free accounts are foundational to its community of influential and engaged photographers. We are not making any changes to Flickr plans or rates at this time. We’ll let Flickr Pro customers know if that changes.
This is so sweet. I would love to enter my girls for this! Thanks for everyone who helped with this!
Kenna: This one would be her first choice. Second/Third choice would be one of pink bears with white hearts.
Ellie: Cheeta print animal, Blue tye-dye bear, one of the "Americana" bears.
important note: it's the SmugMug Flickr.com terms and privacy policy that apply after the 25th, not the SmugMug.com ones... two separate documents. Compare https://www.smugmug.com/about/terms (smugmug.com's terms) to https://www.smugmug.com/about/terms-flickr (SmugMug's flickr.com terms that go into effect in may.)
And no, SmugMug is not a Mormon company. There are a few that work here, they are the minority, and we all do our best to separate all of our various religious choices from work.

This is a very bad publishing contract.
For you OCD folks who do not like off-center center speakers, this is the previous setup that would be visually more to your liking.
I like it a lot, it has become my daily watch the second i got it.

I use Smugmug.
You need to have the Portfolio Plan if you want to markup prices (ie, get money). The nice thing is, if you don't have a lot of events, you can drop back down to the Power Plan after your event is over, and you get prorated the difference.
Nice job!
I have a section on my website titled, 7 Ways You Can Support Greta Van Fleet, with one of those seven ways being Contribute Photos You Have Taken to Wikimedia Commons.
I know that for professional photographers, contributing photos at first glance seems like giving away their product, and in a way it is, although I suspect that it might also bring in some referrals since photos downloaded from Wikimedia Commons are required to give credit to the photographer.
For Greta Fan Fleet fans who are not professional photographers, it is IMHO a gift to the GVF community if you upload a few photos to Wikimedia Commons. Of course, it's a gift that takes a little work because you have to read up on how to properly upload photos, which takes about 20 minutes.
On my site I explain in more detail why uploading photos to Wikimedia Commons helps the band, and I include links to tutorials re: how to upload photos.
Whatever you decide, I appreciate you considering my suggestion--and for posting here about the killer concert in Los Angeles! :O)
All the best,
"Geeves"
P.S. If you want to try selling photos, I just bought a few from SmugMug from a photographer I like and it was a very smooth buying experience. There are other such sites, but this one seemed more down-to-earth than the big ones like iStockPhoto & ShutterStock.
https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-BJqswB/i-6QrPJgV/A
This one appears to be heading East, uphill to Beaver Pond.
I think the increasingly steep areas off the road to the right are very interesting.
>What are some features for photographers that set SmugMug apart from other similar services?
We're a very feature-rich service, so there are a lot: https://www.smugmug.com/features
But in a nutshell, SmugMug:
>What are some new things planned for either SmugMug and/or Flickr after the acquisition?
SmugMug is still cranking away on our current TODO list with a great set of new and improved features coming out regularly, as we always have. Nothing has really changed here.
For Flickr, we're already working on removing the Yahoo login requirements and improving the Flickr Pro offering. Beyond that, we're still in learning mode so we can prioritize what provides the biggest wins to our customers, but it certainly sounds like we'll be taking a close look at uploading and spam prevention, among other things.
>Are you a photographer? If so, what do you shoot with?
In my opinion, anyone who loves taking photos is a photographer, so yes, I am. In terms of quality, though, my wife is 100X the photographer I am. She's world-class. That's ok - I still love capturing, preserving and telling my stories. And I love consuming hers. :)
I primarily shoot these days with my iPhone 10 and my Sony A7R MkII.
Where have you read that? it says on their webpage:
>SmugMug has acquired Flickr. If you use our products today, rest easy, they aren't going anywhere. The future is bright, but we'll only get there together.Let's do this.
It might be true, I don't know. I just haven't read anything about it
Started working no this over the weekend at out club's group build. This is the new tooled kit. No major problems thus far, just a couple of fiddly PE parts on the road wheels.
Selling prints to complete strangers, try fineartamerica.com
To sell prints to a particular client, I use mpix.com and drop-ship.
To sell prints to people who attended a thing I photographed, I tend to use smugmug.com, I'll change my plan for a few months from Power to Portfolio, the back again.
It came in a variety of cuts and sizes, and was used for everything from body text to large display text. Here's a photo tour through the Schelter & Giesecke type specimen book where it features prominently.
If you don't mind paying, the Basic (cheapest) SmugMug plan is $7/month or $55/yearly. It can store unlimited full resolution shots that can be downloaded by clients through a public or private link. They can also just view. The filenames/metadata can be visible or not and you can also add comments to your shots. Check it out here:
https://www.smugmug.com/pricing
They have a 14 day trial.
The easiest option is to choose a photo sites that let you use your own domain. You usually need to pay a little more for the "pro" or "business" plan. Look for the feature "Use your own domain name".
https://www.exposure.co/pricing
https://www.smugmug.com/features
I think 500px offers this also?
You can buy a domain at any number of domain resellers, usually for a low price.
Here's a neat site for searching for available domain names:
Hi guys, I am looking to cop this datejust 41 replica and was wondering if its a decent quality for its price. Narikaa quoted me 90£ for it. Please give me your two cents on this matter. Must appreciated. Here is the link for better images. https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-2ztwmK/
Sure you can, you can see the others here. I'll PM you the password. The copy on Smugmug will be better quality than the imgur upload but not sure if the size will be larger - I won't be releasing the full resolution images though.
I would say keep buying hard drives and store them in a good file system, then buy a SmugMug subscription (price of a coffee for a month of unlimited storage) and store them there too.
Cool thing I've discovered with SmugMug, is that from their app you can directly share to email, instagram, fb, etc., all intergrated. No download to re-upload, and everything seems very polished.
It looks like your order is right on the money for an increasing difficulty path. In addition to what the other commenters have said about the challenge with stormtroopers, white is a notoriously difficult color to paint.
I also found Leia difficult for the same reason. Mine came out a bit dirtier than I would have liked.
The tank from the Hoth set is pretty easy.
> Merging with Smugmug soon... very skeptical they'll keep it free
Free accounts aren't going anywhere, and they're staying unchanged for the foreseeable future. Any changes to come down will likely be for Pro customers.
There's an AMA coming up with the CEO of SmugMug. I encourage you to throw out any concerns you have.
I use smugmug for this. I use it with my existing domain name purchased elsewhere, and have it set up for portfolio purposes but also selling prints.
You can create password-protected folders/galleries and share them with your customers for them to browse, and you can also sell photos there and smugmug will handle printing and delivery with your choice of sizing, material, and which print lab you want to use (they have a few options). So you really just upload, share, and can let customers either download directly from the gallery, or purchase prints.
They have different plans available for different needs, you can look at them and get more details here:
I haven't run into any major issues. Designing the site was a learning experience - I have had an easier time with other design/template customization websites, and this one was a bit different/quirky to learn, but not hard. Just took a bit more googling around to find out how to do something specific.
I have had no issues with the storefront at all. You have huge control over pricing, Smugmug notifies you when you have a sale, and in the store setup options, you can set an order delay, so that you can review it and make any changes if necessary or confer with the customer.
The smug mug website is where you'll can browse his stock.
Email him to order/talk about it.
He is a trusted dealer and super nice to deal with. His watches have some insane value.
https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-SH9KFj
The second hand is a 3hz second is is sweeping. Gens sweep at 4hz, a little smoother but not noticeable unless side by side.
You'd need to pay $380 for the noob v7 to get a 4hz movement.
I wouldn't call chipping alchemy, exactly, but there are a ton of variables at play and they're frustratingly difficult to keep track of. Just off the top of my head - sheen of underlying paint, thickness of hairspray/chipping fluid coats, type of paint put on top, thickness of paint put on top. Drying times allowed. Amount of water used to set off chipping reaction. Type of brush used. Type of stroke/technique used with type of brush.
I've found it best to work as small as possible, with as little water as possible. Additionally, chipping over a flat paint will usually give you much smaller chips and prevent the sheeting that can happen.
On my Dauntless I actually used an old airbrush needle in places: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-Mgf9br/i-7qJmjpb/A
Forget all those. Just Google Regmariner. Narikaa is a TD on the rep forums and supplies these. Probably the best value subs currently available. Around $120 these are a steal. Have a link to his current available stock if you want it.
I like Smugmug because you can sign up for the business plan for a 1 year plan, and after the event is over and you stop selling images, switch to the Basic plan, and you'll be refunded the difference. Then, if you have another occasion to sell images, switch back to the business plan (and pay again).
I like Smugmug. You can actually sign up for the business plan and switch to a different plan if you only need to sell for a few months of the year (and the difference in cost is credited back to you).
I am converting a Dodge Ram Conversion Van (1999)
This is a link to most of the pictures I have so far taken along the way:

As you can see, there is a way to go but most of the planning is done and I know where I am going with it.
Here’s a picture of my nails with the transparent polish and subtle blue reflection that I love and want to find similar polish of: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-PK8Z9c/i-vXxsJvB

It's hard to explain in words, so I made a video of how to attach the hood:
https://www.smugmug.com/app/galleries/pHL5Rf?resultType=Video&imageKey=4qkFCKF
Line up the small red dot on the lens with the red dot on the hood, then twist to the left until the red circle on the hood lines up with the red dot on the hood.
I photographed band kids for a fundraiser. Nice, studio lit portraits with the kids holding their instrument. I thought it was a surefire seller.
I set up a Smugmug account, Portfolio Plan ($200/year). I paid the Smugmug fee from my own pocket. People can order directly online. You can set your own price for prints, so if you set prices at 3x cost, you can say "two-thirds of your purchase goes to support the band."
The band made maybe fifty bucks, tops, and I was out $200. At least, I was able to convert my Portfolio Plan to a Basic Plan after the fundraiser was over.
Lesson: people don't pay for photos.
Oh, and perhaps you'll find some inspiration in this meal from 2015. It was the first time I felt at ease enough with the process to document it as I went.

And don't sweat the small stuff. Most people aren't terribly critical and want to lend a hand anyway. If they come early, set 'em to prep work. If they're coming late, have 'em bring a dessert or a side dish.
You could easily set up a storefront on smugmug, and clients would be able to either download files or purchase prints, as well as purchase novelty items, etc. You can set how much markup you want for each.
It's very easy, and it basically runs itself. You upload your images to an album, and send the URL of the album to your client.
This service isn't free, though, you'd need the Portfolio Plan, which costs $200/year.
Chipmunks- cute yet destructive as can be. Chew up automotive wiring (soy based insulation), tunnel under HVAC, front stairs, etc. Sorry, but they gotta go.

Hey all! I was at the protest taking photos and wanted to share. Feel free to share on, download, and use.
Thanks for the great experience. Email address is in the gallery if you have any issues or questions.

As someone who occasionally hires photographers at my day job, I'd say Instagram is better than nothing, but a decent website is better than Instagram. If you're a student, or if photography is your occasional side-hustle, I'd think Instagram is fine. But by definition I wouldn't call it "a professional portfolio." If you point me to your Instagram, that says to me "this is my hobby, not my profession."
It's so easy to make a website these days, it just seems like you're not serious if you don't have one. There are good services like 500px, Squarespace, Zenfolio, Smugmug where you can get a decent site with your own domain name for under $100/year.

SmugMug Power Plan, $72/year:
https://www.smugmug.com/plans/power
Also consider that photography is such a competitive industry, why would you do anything that puts you at a disadvantage?
> To me that's all the difference it'd make
Go back to your post and read your own words. "being serious" is "all the difference it'd make." It's the difference between being taken seriously, and not. You said it yourself!
That's what they cost new with these options, and they sell like hotcakes out here. Too rich for my blood, but the CPO price is doable. Link to original price sticker: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-xhx35v/i-TQC4Bp3/A

Action Property Mgmt has a duplex with fenced yard at 3510 S Rogers St (at San Juan) that is a month-to-month at $1050. I drive by periodically and shared the info with someone on fb who was looking. Everyone says that narikaa is worth the extra as it gets a bit or a lot right, just depends on who you ask. From the pictures the lume looks a lot better on narikaa's sub than the Jason U1. I have not held either of them and cannot comment from firsthand experience yet. I do have both of them on order and an waiting patiently. I will share side-by-side pics and post a review once they are finally in.

I used Wix through a provider and the low cost ended up being much more when the other add-ons were offered....security, sales etc. It looked good, but they all look good.
All the while, I maintained my SmugMug account and eventually moved everything over there. I currently maintain a PRo Account there. They do offer a basic account for $48/year (one-time billing)....from which you can still sell prints.
I went back to SmugMug because they are specifically geared toward photography. They let you load video with the other plans. The only thing I don't like about them is navigating their system for building folders, and galleries. It is a learning curve....like anything.
https://www.smugmug.com/plans
good luck to you
Unless you want to pay a webdesigner or learn webdesign yourself, you are best off relying on a website creation platform like wix or squarespace and seeing what print services tie into those platforms.
That said for your purpose perhaps something like smugmugshould be sufficient. Generally I suspect friends and family will prefer to email you rather than buy something very inpersonal off a website.
Smugmug's basic plan might be the right thing for you. Only $48/year. Unlimited storage. You can share galleries, folders, photos. Have some password protected if you want. Easily make you own website with their easy to use templates. Just drag and drop to design your own site.
If you ever want to start selling your photos, you can upgrade to the next plan.
narikaa have a omega snoopy in the uk, you can mail him at [email protected]

You could use Smugmug. In Smugmug you can set a password on an album. You can set the password to be the person's last name, or whatever. You can set a hint.
For example:

The password is Danfu777
Smugmug is not free, but the prices are reasonable:
Thanks for the feedbacks. Some comments from Polarstar say it has a ceramic bezel, which make me wonder if they are indeed from the same factory. Does anyone tried the narikaa ones WTC ?
I use SmugMug for this. They have a payment system built into the Portfolio Plan.
In my town, nobody, but nobody, buys prints like this. I tried dance recitals, music performances, some other things. I hope you have better success than I.
I currently have an Amazon Price account in the US, with access to Prime Photos. While I don't like the interface / experience... It has served me well with its unlimited photo storage (including RAW!) This is the only feature I use with prime, being based in AU, I can't use the free shipping and I have other providers for music and movies. At close to $200AUD per year, I think I can do better for photo storage.
I mostly shoot while travelling, and use a mix of Android phone, Sony RX100 and Sony A7. I currently manually combine all images into a date / trip / activity folder and upload to Prime Photos. The mobile also backs everything up to Google Photos (which I do like due to the syncing, basic editing and sharing ability), but not impressed with their lack of high-res backups (I can't buy additional storage due to the plan I am on with them)
The three I have focused on (but very much open to alternatives) are:
As far as I know there are no good online vendors that are profitable for small-scale sellers. By that, I mean being able set a price, and have people buy from the site directly, and come out the other end making a profit.
For example: Smugmug's portfolio plan is $180/year. You'd have to earn $180/year profit on prints each year just to break even. Which is more prints than I've sold in 10 years.
What I'd recommend is just handle it manually. Have people pay you cash, order a print, and have the print sent to you, then give the print to the person. Or drop-ship the print to the person.
What prices are fair depends on several factors, including where you live, how large the print, how unique the image, maybe how deep pockets your customer has.
Just to update you, Flickr is attempting to revitalize. Smugmug bought them sometime this last year, and are dumping money into cleaning the community up, but it'll be time before they see actual results I think. That and they're charging subscriptions for above 1000 pics per account.

One of the things I really like about Smugmug is how it uses folders to manage the galleries and that you can drag and drop images and galleries where you want them. It has a lot of different gallery styles and you can set up different sorts of template galleries for different needs.

I have the luxury of being the cook but not the host. I do some prep work at home but bring it all to my in-laws' house. I also get a lot of help from willing hands and that makes a big difference.
Prep as many things as possible ahead. If you can throw it in the oven the day before do it. Try to have a variety of dishes, you can make less of each, which is more manageable. Record what you plan to do, record what you actually do, and make note of how it went. You will feel as frazzled as hell, I expect! It does get a bit easier with practice, at this point I've got it to a routine.
For inspiration, here's our 2015 meal. It was the first year that I felt comfortable enough to take time for photography: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-6g2RBG/
In that case you're better off looking at other brands that aren't as recognisable as Rolex. Narikaa has some ok Tags in ladies sizes which are in your price range and much less obvious tells. https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-HQ6fwJ/
Sorry to disappoint, and I don't want to be overly harsh, but this watch does look extremely cheap, and if your fiance is into watches he will tell at first glance - that date font is just inexcusable. Where did you pick it up from / what did you pay for it?
I expect there is much better available from DH Gate, or if you could stretch to the £120 ($150) mark you would be better off buying something from Reg, eg:

I use Smugmug and here is my site which more of a recent photo archive. For the most part i'm happy with the service , there are a few minor things id wish they change like having a search slideshow , being able to have more then 48 photos on one page and photo stats that don't erase after a year like just about every major site I can think of.
I have his Tudor Black Bay Heritage that I am selling. Its originally $140 but mine has a few minor scratches and I'd be happy to sell it for $100 if you are interested. Nothing wrong with it, just want to sell it to get something different. PM me for more details if interested.
Thanks for your answer.
Indeed, the tines are misaligned, but I don’t really feel it when going sideways – I say more about that in a previous answer.
I watch the aligning and tuning videos before even buying this fountain pen, I tried it a bit with the fingers since, but I don’t want to go too far.
I began to use the pen for less than a day; I want to be sure of the diagnosis first.
Fresh pictures: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-MrxP4w/i-Txm8KQF
Thanks for the thoughts.
I don’t really feel that the horizontal stroke is more scratchy. I paid attention to the rotation during writing, but it doesn’t seem to change anything, except the lack of ink if I go too far (beyond the sweet spot). I also tested with minimal pressure (only the weight of the pen), but it doesn’t change the smoothness of the line, except being a bit thinner.
As I understand your response, it’s more a flaw than something normal – I’m talking about the result on the paper, not the feeling when writing.
In fact, I was already aware of some things about the tines that were wrong on my nib, but I never read something about that flaw, let alone as a side-effect of the common tines misalignments.
The real scratchiness, I feel it when I’m writing upside-down and doing some horizontal lines or cross lines (so with a thinner line), but despite a noisy scratchiness, all my lines are smooth when I look at the paper. There is probably not enough ink to get this unevenness…
For what I see, the left tine is too high and is longer than the right one – or vice versa.
Here some fresh pictures: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-MrxP4w/i-Txm8KQF
I already tried aligning the tines, but I don’t want to risk anything if there is a more serious issue like the longer tine? Or that something else causing that unevenness in horizontal lines.
What I don’t understand is that I see this kind of lines from time to time on pictures and videos, but no one seems to be bothered by them; however I saw a few posts with people complaining about them.
For simplicity what if the folder the images save to is a Google drive folder, shared to anyone with the link, and then create a easy to remember bit.ly or other shortlink for it?
Or better for gallery viewing then downloading (I've not used either of these but looks like should work).
Smugmug for a small monthly cost - https://www.smugmug.com/plans/basic

Looking at the above it also works with Flickr which might be better if you want it up for ever for free. Not used Flickr in a while, can't remember if you can set images not to be indexed / searchable if privacy is an issue.
Edit: just noticed Facebook too which is probably Ideal for wedding photos and sharing.
P.S. congrats and have an amazing wedding
Google Photos is a nice option, and you can choose to share with specific gmail addresses as their most "fine-grained" security option.
If you're looking for something with the appearance of "more privacy" you might look into one of SmugMug's plans. They have album-specific password options, etc.
~~[WTS] [WTT] Nitecore TM 26~~
~~Mint condition - no scratches on the body at all. Includes the original charger, holster, and lanyard. Will include the spare o-ring and charge-port cover if I can find them (sorry; seem to have lost track of them - but will look harder if someone shows interest).~~ ~~Manufacturer specs here.~~
~~Will sell for best offer, or trade for Emisar D1S. Shipping from Canada.~~
~~EDIT: Added the /username photo to the album.~~
~~EDIT 2: Please note this is a 3500 lumen version (as shown by the LCD in the pics) - not 4000, per the Nitecore page. According to this thread, it looks like there were two later generations (3800 lumen, 4000 lumen).~~
This strange fungus? Is growing rapidly under my strawberries. It’s soft. The knobs are like Little cells with a seed like substance inside. Does not smell good, nor bad. more photos here
Ah sorry, must have looked over that part. I suppose for the same price of paying for premium Dropbox you could use something like SmugMug? Made for photographers to do exactly what you are trying to do.
Alternatively, I suppose you could zip up the photos and force the client to download to unzip full res photos perhaps?
Add auto-play videos and ads! Marketing people love it. /s
Jokes aside, my brutally honest opinion is it lacks wow factor. It looks ordinary. Not sure if you have the time for it, but I love the moving bits on this page: https://www.smugmug.com/together/
Perhaps do one or two (featured episodes?) just to impress the bosses? I understand it's a "content" type of website, so too much animation may be counter-productive. My point is not so much the animation but the uniqueness of the design.
Just wanted to show you the results of yours and other's help.
We are giving them away to needy kids now over here. Come choose some winners if you want.
Thanks again for making this all possible. They turned out sooooo good. :D
Oh sweet. You are awesome. Did you see the build a bears? They turned out awesome. Thanks for making that possible. Come over to the post and pick some winners if you want. :D
SmugMug is amazing. I'm not even a Pro and use it for my hobby pictures to share with family across the states. My professional photographer friends use it and it's highly professional and easy to use with and for clients. The security (privacy) is top notch, too. I highly recommend.
You might consider a photography specific service. I use smugmug. $50/yr is cheap for keeping your photos safe. They've been making money doing this for years -- so I don't worry about them shutting down or anything.
I was backing up everything else with CrashPlan, though...
1) Who did the scan? 2) what type of file is it (jpeg? TIFF? RAW?) 3) how big is the scan file? If you are going to be posting 35mm work and care about the maximum quality to exhibit your work then you may want to take a look at hosting sites which take your files as-is, such as https://www.smugmug.com/ or http://www.deviantart.com/ .
Another way is to post your original file on a simple file-sharing site and add a link so people can download it to see the full quality.
Neither smugmug or zenfolio offer free plans according to their websites. Unless there is some secret code or handshake I don't know about.
Reg has one on his site that looks good. However, it has the number indicators instead of the marker. His album is here: https://narikaa.smugmug.com/ And the Sky-dweller is here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-pQZMKk/ If you shoot him an email he is really quick to get back.

Edit: it's the 3rd image; although most of them get the point across.
It doesn't have to be dogs, or even animals. Capturing that perfect moment in time at 1/1000th or higher is always such an amazing feeling. I get something similar from that perfectly composed landscape, but it's just not as fun. You can reshoot the landscape over and over until you get what you want. Action only gives you one chance.
We are doing this too. We just think it should be up to our daughter to decide what she wants shared, and until she is old enough, we are going to protect her privacy. A way to get around the problems of sharing with select family is to use a payed service like Smug Mug to make albums online that are password protected, and under your control. When you decide to delete them, they really are gone. We did this for her birth announcement, and built a little album of hospital/first days at home photos and then shared the link/password with our friends and family. We can add to it as we like, and if anyone seems to be abusing our wishes, its easy to change the password (which so far hasn't happened, as our relatives aren't assholes).
SmugMug is known for having terms of service that are extremely respectful of people's ownership and rights restrictions, unlike Youtube and Vimeo. It's primary purpose is as a photo sharing site, but I'm pretty sure it also had a video feature, but it may be a premium option.
If you want to host it, that's fine, but keep in mind what kind of bandwidth restrictions you're going to have to deal with. For example, I have unlimited storage and unlimited traffic with my hosting provider, Dreamhost (if you want to help me out, here's a referral link), but the bandwidth they provide me isn't enough to stream HD video very well. SD video does well enough, most of the time.
The other big issue is that it makes playing with bandwidth adaptive streaming much more difficult. You know that trick where instead of buffering Netflix will downgrade video quality if you're connection is congested? That's the kind of thing I'm talking about. It requires a lot more work to make happen on your own.
