Amara's subtitles synching is so annoying... the subtitles show about a quarter of a second later on the actual video as compared to in the editor... :\
So I've captioned this, but try as I might, apparently I just cannot seem to get some lines (specifically around 1:10) to appear at the right time, so I apologise! I think it's close enough though, so it should be okay, and only a few are really obvious. Here it is anyway, I hope it's okay for you. :)

Huzzah! This took way longer than I thought it would!
Enjoy! It's not the best interview :P, maybe I've just heard it 20 times now.
A sticky with a list of current projects (videos) requested or in progress, perhaps with a note for who is currently working on the project, would probably help a whole lot.
This sounds like an awesome idea, but it will probably be a lot of work for the Moderators who are willing to grab the reins and make it happen.
I saw /u/IamMoltar posted to /r/deaf. Are there some other popular subreddits for the deaf that this could be promoted to in order to generate a list of top priority projects to get started with? It may be worthwhile to just start a list based on the popular entries on /r/transcriptrequest. There is currently a post in /r/transcriptrequest about using amara.org to subtitle videos requested on that sub as well.
Looks like this was already completed: http://amara.org/en/videos/16jxfvfn6u9Y/info/scentual-science-how-to-pick-a-cologne-smarter-every-day-125/

Here it is. It relies heavily on the "atmosphere" of the song they used, which I didn't actually like very much. And I just couldn't make out what Hagrid said, sorry!
Remember, this information is for educational purposes only! ;)
Hello, I am here to volunteer. I came from this post as well! Because I couldn't find any REQUESTS, I have captioned one video I found very useful when repairing my car: http://amara.org/en/videos/7fJV41wcW7VC/url/1657352/
I've always been interested in closed captioning, and I am happy to find a place to help others who need it!
I'm new at this so I'm going to start small with "Dare to be a dork! I sure do!"
OK, try this:
http://amara.org/en/videos/2R30h3OrquMO/info/dare-to-be-a-dork-i-sure-do/
For some reason I can't make Amara work at all in IE, but if I switch to Chrome it's okay. Let me know if you're actually seeing captions here!
http://amara.org/en/videos/oZHLlskce0mA/info/13-15092-donald-cullen-v-netflix/
Here you go! Some of the dialogue doesn't make sense because the speakers didn't get out full sentences. I tried to make it as clear as possible, but there were definitely some times the though was just left incomplete. Hope this helps!
I just finished the second one! Sorry that I did them out of order. I might start on the first tonight but I may not finish. Tell me if you have any feedback.
(There is some snickering behind the camera, so you can rest assure that she probably did not get harmed while making this video.)
I hope I've done this right. If it doesn't work, let me know. I'm having a little trouble figuring out exactly what url to use.

Edit* http://amara.org/en/videos/EmPZ5qOjDSfe/info/ed-edd-n-eddy-my-best-friend-plank-music-video/
So I've started, to translate this to English. This is very difficult for me, as this is my first time trying anything like this (both captioning a video as well as translating from another language.) Although I was born in Germany my German is pretty bad as I've spent most of my life in the US.
That being said I've made a best effort so far on the first 6:45 of this video (just typing it out). This video is pretty dialog heavy and it hurts my brain to try and translate between languages.
Hopefully someone more fluent in both language can assist further.

I apologize if I've missed some mistakes during review, I've had people hassling me and starting conversations with me while I was trying to sync it up. It was not that great fun.
Here you go. Sorry, this was my first time ever, and I didn't really capture Stewart's comedic timing.
Not actually that much in here! He does read out each commandment as they're on screen, but I thought it'd be redundant to caption that too and would get in the way.
N.B. the other transcription included some translation of scottish slang and was incomplete. I typed what I heard, so if you want to check what the expressions mean you can check the transcription :)
I agree that the autocaptions are pretty good. The errors that were there and the lack of punctuation drove me crazy, though, so I copied the autocaptions and cleaned them up: http://amara.org/en/videos/Q2jb3xTq9Qem/info/how-to-trim-your-eyebrows-without-a-tweezer/
Here it is! http://amara.org/en/videos/7fF6l7mntf0Y/info/interview-suvaco/
Unfortunately, there were two places where I had no clue what he was saying. 12:21 and 25:21 in case anyone else wants to give it a listen.
Here. It's just clips of dialogue so there's really no way to tell who's saying what, sorry.
Hey, /u/pizzamarie or anyone else, any guesses on what that woman says about a minute into the video?
Finished. Sorry, I just couldn't figure out that name at about 10:05. If you happen to be familiar with Malcolm W??? (or if you want to correct any other captions, any time), let me know and I can fix it.
Hey! Here's the subtitled video! Sorry it's been a month since you asked. I got preoccupied with schooling. I'm glad I as able to finish before the 26th though. Really interesting subject.
Here it is. I'd like to make it illegal for people to talk all over each other in a video ...
Here you go. I gave up on transcribing the German pretty quickly, but it's all translated anyway.
Someone had already transcribed and synced the video so I just had to inflict spelling and punctuation on it. Turns out it's much easier to start fresh than finish what someone else started!
I love your vlog, it's a solid constructive criticism of DEAF protests with suggestions to which directions they should go instead. Plus great information about getting evidence for ADA cases too!
I started on it in Arama, about a minute in. Since this is my first time subbing and I rarely interpret (I'm deaf too), it'll be a bit slow going.
I suggest posting this in /r/ASL and /r/ASLinterpreters too and see if there'll be more volunteers to help caption this.
I was planning to do the whole thing as usual but I cannot stand to listen to this asshole for another minute, so I'll take you up on your offer to sync and publish what I've typed. This should take you there.
You were right, notes would have been sufficient! :D "I absolutely love this unit, you guys!"
All right, here's part 1. Please let me know if it needs any improving. The YouTube video wasn't synched well with the audio, so trying to get words to match up with mouths and signs was tricky! I did my best but I'm just a beginner here. I posted a link in the original topic, too.
I don't see anyone else lining up to take on the next part, so I'll try to get that one done tomorrow.
Holy crap, this woman talks fast. There's one little place I couldn't figure out, but it's only a second or so, and nothing important.
Here is the Instant Gratification one. I'm open to feedback, if you have any technical suggestions on things like line length or ... ? Whatever. I'll start on You Are Not Your Depression next.
Here it is. Not sure who did it, but I am surprised they didn't give you a link.. hmm
http://amara.org/en/videos/a6W2A06CQcXc/en/975604/
This is not synced, someone offered to sync it for me, and this is the first time I've ever done something like this so it could be totally awful! Let me know what I could do better/etc because I've never done this >.>
Thanks! <3
edit: sorry that took so long, I got distracted irl.
Here you go! I tried my best to recognize all of the words, please let me know if you find any lyrical mistakes. Enjoy!
Alright, I finished.
Here's a link to the amara.org page. You can play it on this page, but not in fullscreen, and it will show the captions.
Alternatively, here's a link to download the captions in a format of your choosing. Towards the upper right is a drop-down menu labeled "Download" so you can save the captions in whatever format you want.
I combined my work with someone else's. They typed almost everything up and did most of the timing, but I re-timed a few bits and added in character names for who is speaking, as well as added in sound effects.
Enjoy! It's a great film.
There's a little bit of time-stretching where I put the captions a tiny bit out of sync with the audio because the words rolled by really quickly.
U can use Amara.org. It's very easy to use.
Just make an account on Amara.org like on any other website.
I already made a link for this video for you to use: http://amara.org/en/subtitles/editor/oZHLlskce0mA/en/
When you're on that webpage, just follow this tutorial: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-NxoPqYwVwo
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
I just finished syncing it (I had started a few hours ago but needed to figure out how to space all the fast talking): http://amara.org/en/videos/mO6fUpBDDdsW/info/inside-out-trailer-3-2015-disney-pixar-movie-hd/
That's a lot of words. Unfortunately I did only have the time to do the first two minutes (not synced). I will continue as soon as I have the chance, but if someone wants to collaborate, here is the link:
Hi there! Someone did half of the subtitle already, and I finished them up.
It just needs to be reviewed and synced.
EDIT
...and I just went and synced it myself because I had time. Here you go! http://amara.org/en/videos/eFLfIc15iqKv/info/searching-for-happiness/
http://amara.org/en/videos/7EfXQloke7b7/info/how-globalization-affects-transnational-crime/
All done! Enjoy. I have a LOT of new knowledge about transnational crime now to whip out at dinner parties. =)
I think this is the link I'm supposed to post. It's my first attempt. I had some trouble with the synching as both are talking rapidly in places but it's as good as I could get it this time. If anyone has tips, please let me know.
Again, it's my first time, I think this is the link.
http://amara.org/en/videos/TzWnBPJ8q4Io/url/1422569/
Please give me feedback if I've done a poor (or good I suppose) job, I'm sure there's plenty of room for improvement.
This is my first attempt, so let me know if there are any suggestions you have for future attempts to make it better or tweak this one. I think I may have gone a bit too fast on some of them, so I'll work on slowing them down
Im working on it now - using a Youtube link of the same video I found so I can make it on Amara
Edit: Done, in one part I can't make out what the cameraman is singing (1:04 - 1:10), sorry.
http://amara.org/en/videos/862mR3NIUYEK/info/people-of-the-gas-station-vine-full-video/
(Also for reference, whatever the cameraman says is in Italics)
I gave it a go , first time captioning so apologies if they are off - but let me know if there is anything I need to improve
This was my first time doing this. He spoke kind of fast, and some of the humor didn't make sense without sound effects, so I tried to strike a good balance between dialogue and sounds. Sorry if it's not up to snuff, but I hope you enjoy!
I also recommend zooming into the video with [CTRL][+] or [CMD][+] on a mac. Some jokes (like the "achievement unlocked" popup) doesn't make sense on a smaller video size. :P
HERE is the first 1 minute ad 50 seconds. I must say, it was A BLAST to caption, because it all came down to keyboard shortcut timing. I would do the whole thing IF somebody tells me they can actually follow it because it is beyond reasonable limits in speed ....
A quick Google search revealed a bazillion different ways of doing it. They can be grouped into:
- programs you install on your computer
- websites that do it for you (web apps)
- manually getting the file from your browser cache
- others, I'm sure
Try THIS PAGE for a quick presentation of 3 different methods.
Try googling "how to get subtitles from youtube video" for another few methods.
Another one might be to open the vid in amara ... amara should say if it has subs, and if so it might even let yo download them. There's a thought. That would need testing. I can;t do that right now, so if somebody would like to give it a go ...
I'm afraid that Amara.org doesn't offer this essential feature. You could download the subtitles from amara.org and then import them and sync them with this program: http://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit/ You will have to use a program to download the video (I recommend 4k downloader to download the yt video).
If you have any other questions. Feel free to ask
So, someone already started working on this a day ago. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until I'd already created the captions since I create them completely outside of Amara and then add them there as a final step.
That other person hasn't finished yet. I uploaded my captions under British English so as not to erase their work. You'll have to change the language in the menu to British English to see captions. http://amara.org/en/videos/0umtPkpISg3N/info/how-they-animated-the-lego-batman-movie-design-fx-wired/
Yup, I use Aegisub. It allows me to stylize my captions, so along with a plain .srt file, I sent OP an Advanced Substation Alpha file with color-coded captions based on who was speaking. It also lets me position captions so I can move them to the top if they're in the way of text at the bottom of the screen.
I've just added my captions to Amara. Here you go: http://amara.org/en/videos/8uR8c5R8j6V8/info/loz-ocarina-of-time-3d-by-benstephens56-in-15723-awesome-games-done-quick-2017-part-2/
Starting on #2
Edit: OK, so I can't do the second one. There were so many Canadian insider-hockey things that I can't google or make out that I feel inadequate. I did start it, but didn't get very far if someone wants to continue on:
http://amara.org/en/subtitles/editor/LbCjkPK3jUQf/en/
Sorry!
Starting 12 now.
OMG, it's like five minutes of this kid crying out in pain. How do I spell that??? :D
Here's a weird thing: there are a couple of places where he says "Another one" and the caption doesn't show up. It shows up when I'm editing the video, and I've published it a couple of times, but for some reason (Amara thinks I'm repeating myself too much??) it's not showing up, at least for me at this point. You'll easily see where they're missing, anyway. shrugs
I've finished with it. I didn't do a good job on the opera excerpts, sorry. Even though I listened dozens of times I just couldn't figure out what they were singing. Maybe someone else can jump in and try to improve it?
Just started working on this, first time on the sub, I'm using amara.org, only 10 minutes in, but the videos only 60 minutes. I'll try to have it up later this week. Wish me luck! edit: got to 1/3 mark. edit: http://amara.org/en/videos/F04XdtRg37UJ/info/bernie-sanders-seattle-aug-8-2015/
I can't make it link properly and I'm giving up. You'll have to choose the English version, not the British English. There's no way to delete the British English one. I have no idea why Amara thinks that's an important distinction to make.
Here it is. Man, sound descriptions are tough for me. I can't think of the right words to describe them or which sounds to actually put in the caption. Some of the dialogue I wasn't sure about because the music was too loud. Cool video, though!
I had some trouble with a word I was unable to identify in the recording though so if anyone has a correction, let me know.
I was testing it out and have the captions typed up for this Markiplier video. As you can see though, Markiplier tends to speak fast and I'm having a bit of trouble with syncing up the captions. It probably just takes a bit of practice but is there an option to maybe slow the video down? If I could run the video at 1/2 speed, it would make it much easier to sync up.
Again, it's probably just something I need a bit more practice with.
Also, when finished, is it ok to post to this sub for feedback? Since it's my first time captioning, I'm sure I messed up some stuff. Should I just tag the post as [Feedback Requested] or something similar?
Here is the 10-minute one. Someone had done about 2/3 of the captioning work a few years ago, so I did a bit of tidying up and left the rest. It's pretty sloppy but it will do, I think.
It wasn't actually in a video, but I saw it when I was looking up the spelling of something. Anyway, here is the third video, and I'll do the second one next.
I'll start on the last one next. That leaves the short one for anyone who wants to jump in!
I just couldn't figure out the name of that one skateboard trick ...
I'll get started on part two.
And here's the last one. (Not sure if you need more parts of this series? There's barely anything in this clip but introductions of a panel of experts who are about to debate the Black Athena issue.)
Caravans of Gold. I'll try to get the last one done today too.
(BTW, you'll see a map that says Jenne, but every source I read calls it Djenne, so I went with that.)
Captioned! We hope you enjoy it and please tag your post as "Captioned!"
http://amara.org/en/videos/a6W2A06CQcXc/en/975604/
This is the first time I've ever done this, so let me know what I did wrong/could have done better/etc? ^ ^
<3
Edit: sorry that took me so long, I had something I had to take care of irl.
Okay, so I transcribed one episode.
Let me know what you think? It's my first time so any tips would be great (did I put too many names before speech? too few?)
http://amara.org/en/videos/W9rAjpPlV29G/info/my-lupine-life-episode-01-crib-notes/
I'm sorry. I only looked at the video and that played without any problem. But I didn't actually see that the subtitles weren't appearing.
So I just copied the subtitles from the Amara video that got taken down to the new one: http://amara.org/en/videos/974SO1yWN6iT/info/game-of-thrones-season-5-trailer-hd/
Enjoy!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ipmpv0R1D0s#t=61
I'm giving it a shot since you asked 2 days ago and it's not been commented on. I'm brand new so quick results are not likely.
http://amara.org/en/subtitles/editor/7EfXQloke7b7/en/
might be the right link for any who want to help...
I will try to do it. Won't promise I will finish it myself.
But I will be using Amara.org so anyone can help out:
http://amara.org/en/videos/fZPz7Qi2BVh4/info/totalbiscuits-arbitrary-video-game-awards-2014/
UPDATE: Amara video here!
Howdy! First transcription, so please let me know wherever there's room for improvement.
We're all moving so fast, just standing on the equator with the world spinning underneath us — what if, just for a moment, we stopped?
(0:18) There are problems with everything, and nothing's yet perfect, but that shouldn't be cause to bemoan. That should be cause to achieve. Our world is a better place than we often claim it to be.
(0:31) We're living in an all-time high for health and wellness, and literacy has been sharply on the rise for decades. More people are living longer, and during childbirth both infant and maternal mortality rates have plummeted in the last century, saving the lives of millions.
(0:50) We've seen a host of horrific diseases completely eradicated, and there are many more for which eradication is underway. We live the way we do because people chose to tackle their problems head-on. In a hundred years we've gone from filming the Wright brothers to landing a camera on Titan, a moon 800 million miles away.
(1:11) There are a growing number of organizations and foundations leading the way to research, innovate, and effect change in the world. And partnering together, they're helping the world's poorest people lift themselves out of hunger and poverty. When thinking if you're going to be optimistic this year, remember: nobody changes the world on their own.
(1:35) It all starts with a resolution. What's yours?
