I just want subs. I can't be the only one who likes to know what they're saying, but wants to hear the original sound?

Obviously this doesn't apply to all videos, but lots of good porn relies on some roleplay dialogue and verbose dirty talk.

EDIT: Okay, I knew I wasn't alone but didn't expect this many people to support it. To add my own 0.02, I was thinking something very similar to the symbiosis between Youtube captions/transcripts and Amara, which crowdsources captioning. I doubt Amara would want to partner with porn sites, but this is pretty doable. Of course it would require proper curation of videos and transcripts by their posters, which may make this fall flat, or complicate it.

Also, many people seem to be focused on professionally-produced porn. I'm thinking of everything, but it's especially amateur stuff--really anything on tube sites--that would really... pop, with this feature.

Translation is a difficult thing. "Dolguk" means "their job/task/duty". In this context, something like their natural role, their godgiven mission, their responsibility, the thing we should require/expect from them, etc.

It's not about forbidding, he basically says that emancipation and equal rights movements lead to pointless stuff like female weightlifters and he goes on to explain that women's hips and men's shoulders are wider for a reason. He also says that men and women are equally important but have different roles, as described in Genesis.

He doesn't mean it in a way that we should force them to give birth to children, on the contrary: he thinks the modern emancipated women are forced to do something that doesn't fit them naturally. It's fine to disagree with him, but he's not speaking out against women taking up such duties, but against this system that equates all value with money and therefore says that women have to go out and earn as much as men. I also disagree with him in many ways (also for example about using religion as an argument), but he's not saying that we must forbid this to women, but rather that we should enable them to be in their natural role.

Hey. You should use Amara. It's Free Software and lets anyone collaborate on adding subtitles in any language to videos online.

One person can start, another can add some more, a third can finish, a fourth can improve on what the others wrote, etc. Makes it easy to collaborate, and easy to do a little even for those who don't have time or skill to do the whole video perfectly.

I did subtitles for this video, and there was no need to break them up into such tiny chunks. The Amara captioning guidelines say:

> Keep subtitle length to about 42 characters; avoid more than 2 lines per subtitle.

> Subtitles should not be less than 1 second. Split subtitles lasting more than 7 seconds.

> 8-25 characters/second is recommended; 8-16 characters/second for children.

In short, fast talking isn't really a problem unless it starts to exceed 25 characters a second. This is because people (especially adults) read pretty fast.

Amara's subtitles synching is so annoying... the subtitles show about a quarter of a second later on the actual video as compared to in the editor... :\

For most videos there are translations so the transcripts are available, in their description they have a link to this community translating site example if you select English you can view the transcript

Have you thought of using http://amara.org/ instead? That allows people to create captions (with timestamps) right away, and view and share the video with the captions with everybody. G&S team wouldn't have to change the docs format into captions (which is time consuming).

The total cost of the repayment schedule is pretty heinous though and the 4.5% primary surplus is politically unattainable. If the surplus gets reduced to, say, 1%, that gives Greece a 3.5% of GDP of fiscal space to alleviate some of the poverty and even attempt to restart its economy.

I saw /u/IamMoltar posted to /r/deaf. Are there some other popular subreddits for the deaf that this could be promoted to in order to generate a list of top priority projects to get started with? Unfortunately, this won't really be an answer to your question. That said, in the future it may come of use (if not with Diriliş Ertuğrul, then with another series):

Amara.org hosts a good number of Turkish series with English subtitles (and less commonly, subtitles in other languages as well). However, it's search function is not very useful, so I would recommend searching google for the following terms:

Amara.org (SERIES NAME) (Episode Number). bölüm tek parça English subtitles

Just in case you are curious, bölüm means episode and "tek parça" means the whole episode in one file, rather than spread across multiple videos. This is usually better, because the official hosts upload high quality episodes to Youtube and these are typically the videos that are subtitled by intrepid fans. For a wider range of results, you could substitute "tüm bölüm."

Unfortunately, only the first episode of Diriliş Ertuğrul has been subtitled and uploaded (and even that is not yet completed). However, this is usually the first website to host completed subs. For that reason, it is worth checking back occasionally.

I know how frustrating it is to have gotten a taste of a show you like and then have to wait for further subs! My apologies I couldn't provide a more adequate answer.

So I've started, to translate this to English. This is very difficult for me, as this is my first time trying anything like this (both captioning a video as well as translating from another language.) Although I was born in Germany my German is pretty bad as I've spent most of my life in the US.

That being said I've made a best effort so far on the first 6:45 of this video (just typing it out). This video is pretty dialog heavy and it hurts my brain to try and translate between languages.

What's your native language? Try searching youtube and add 'subtitled', for example <<Beatles subtitled>> or whatever 'subtitled' is in your language (sous titre, subtitulado, etc). You'll probably have some luck.

Ironically enough I'm hard of hearing myself but I was trying to caption this Co-Optional Podcast Animated on Amara a week or two ago, but have unfortunately gotten busy with other things. Might revisit this and try to finish it off this week and submit the transcript.

It's definitely worth checking out Amara, since you don't have to download the video yourself - you can just paste the Youtube link into Amara and use its interface to type in your subtitles (then export it as an appropriate file). It looks like you can collaborate with others through Amara but I haven't tried that yet.

It's also worth being selective of the videos that are to be captioned, just to keep in mind those who'll end up watching them in the future. The "WTF is ..." series are great for certain titles because people in future will swing by to check out a video if they're looking up a particular game. The "Co-Optional Podcast" isn't as viable since sometimes there'll be people talking over each other, and in general three hours of content is quite a fair amount to caption for non-stenographers.

As someone that does subtitling on Linux professionally, I have to say the best by far is SubtitleEdit (open source, but built on .NET) running with mono. The latest versions run pretty much flawlessly, but you need the latest mono and all the associated libraries.

Gaupol 19.2 gets a honor mention for including built-in speech recognition, although it hasn't been updated yet to the latest pocketsphinx.

For any videos hosted online, including on one's server, http://amara.org/ (also open source) does the job finely and you can actually collaborate with several people.

I think so, yeah. As far as I can tell they are hoping content creators will pay people to caption their videos. I checked the partners they listed in their Help Center - all of them charge about a dollar per minute. So it seems that if you are deaf, hard of hearing or have auditory processing issues, you are just going to have to hope your favourite creators will want to pay that.

I wrote these subtitles using Amara.org, and then uploaded them to Youtube.

Many Youtube channels use publicly-created subtitles – anyone can write them. Some popular channels that do this include CGP Grey, Kurzgesagt, PewDiePie, and Casually Explained. If you want to contribute, simply click on the settings of the video, go to “Subtitles/CC”, and “Add subtitles/CC”. Or, you can use Amara.org, like me. (I like its interface better.)

I’m not an expert at Esperanto, so there might be some mistakes in my subtitles. You can edit them if you want.

An alternative would be to for someone from community to save the completed episode transcript as a txt, upload to Amara and sync with their tools. Uploading text, then syncing works fine, I tested it with episode 1, first couple of minutes, but I don't have time to fully sync, also - the transcript is not fully done. For this to work the transcript would have to follow some rules, like - split long sentences in several lines, otherwise they take up the whole screen. If someone has time and willingness to do this, I can help with the guidelines and some advice. I have been managing volunteer translators for over 4 years now.

The G&S can then either get the working srt and upload directly to YouTube (much less work for them), or critters can just use the Amara player to watch the video with subtitles.

I combined my work with someone else's. They typed almost everything up and did most of the timing, but I re-timed a few bits and added in character names for who is speaking, as well as added in sound effects.

Not really. The auto subtitles feature really sucks, they sometimes make no sense at all.

This was my first time doing this. He spoke kind of fast, and some of the humor didn't make sense without sound effects, so I tried to strike a good balance between dialogue and sounds. Sorry if it's not up to snuff, but I hope you enjoy!

I also recommend zooming into the video with [CTRL][+] or [CMD][+] on a mac. Some jokes (like the "achievement unlocked" popup) doesn't make sense on a smaller video size. :P

HERE is the first 1 minute ad 50 seconds. I must say, it was A BLAST to caption, because it all came down to keyboard shortcut timing. I would do the whole thing IF somebody tells me they can actually follow it because it is beyond reasonable limits in speed ....

No violation of law here. They're still allowing closed captions, they're just removing the community captions. You commented that you haven't found a good reason for this, but a quick search on the Google support site puts it out there pretty plainly.

EDIT: Looks like they're even trying to help out those that did use this feature, at least in the short term.
