If you’re not going to shell out for a custom fit pair check out the surefire EP4s
These things are amazing for the price: they’re my go to for doubling up at in door ranges or if I’m at an outside range and done want the over ear active ear pro for whatever reason.

I would suggest trying some dry fire books. Kindle unlimited had a 99 cent promo for 2 months. They have 2 competition shooting books on there outlining dry fire goals as well as 15 minute training plans in the second book.
Ben has a ton of other good books, but these are both short enough you could probably do it in under a week.
$50 Folding Utility Wagon from walmart or amazon. Its great because it means you can just toss everything that you could ever need in it and still have room. If you have a really long match you dont have to carry it at all and look for places to keep it clean. It folds up nice and will easily fit in any vehicle. Who needs a bag when you have a cart?
Thanks, it was a good day up until that point.
It's the Mobius Action Camera, on Amazon for $70. I mount mine under the brim of my hat because it is so small and lightweight.
If you just need to learn the aspects of the game this is a helpful resource for USPSA and Steel Challenge competition. - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RWTQS91/
This is the one I was referring to that I have. I think there’s a second edition now and he also has a companion live fire training book as well. You can buy the scaled targets he uses in the book from his pro shop, or you can make your own fairly easily. Since you’re not actually shooting them though, they’ll last forever so I think it’s worth the small investment to get regulation targets.
Moving targets are always a challenge for me. I bought an airsoft gun last year and started shooting the Texas star linked below when covid ammo got so crazy.
I was in the same exact boat as you a few weeks ago.... Wanting to get into USPSA but not break the bank.
I just picked up an Uncle Mike's competition belt and three off-brand mag holders from Amazon for about 50 bucks shipped (prime for the win). Haven't given it all a range test yet, but it all works great in my living room. Very happy w/ the quality.

Of course I picked up two of those 3pack mag holders, so I have an extra or two.
Don't go nuts on equipment. I bought a $40 inner/outer belt from 5.11 on amazon 5.11 Tactical Sierra Bravo Duty Blt https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I5RGTKU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_xa8vAbAHP8YNT
and 2 Condor 3 mag pouches on ebay.

The pouches are soft and have velcro flaps to retain tye mags, but those cone right off and then you just have open soft pouches.
Any kydex belt holster will do.
Mec Gar makes FANTASTIC aftermarket mags for your gun CHEAP
Talon grips are great - $20 and completely reversible. I love the Pro texture as well, but they do make a sandpaper grip that’s got extra chutzpah. You can also put a little squirt of this stuff on your hands - works wonders.
Submission Statement: Hi Folks. After a few weeks after releasing my first app, I have not had ANY sales, so I have made a limited free version to try. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.raddev.myscorefree
It is still good for adding up two targets, but not five like in the full version.
The original post with the release details is here: https://old.reddit.com/r/Firearms/comments/8bwvuy/my_score_an_app_for_adding_up_comp_scores/
Give it a go and thanks. raddev
Sure!
I use this android app and do a couple of the drills that come with it.
I focused mostly on the IDPA String drill (draw, 2 to the body, 1 to the head), then a drill where you take one shot, do a magazine change, then a second shot.
I then moved the targets into a "mini" classifier that is sort of like CM 13-01 Disaster Factor (although with smaller top targets instead of no shoots) and then practiced doing that classifier - including the turn, draw, and shoot.
I also bought Dryfire Reloaded from Amazon and have started reading through
I would say replace your foam tips with these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VNB0UC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If they don't suppress well after that and you still don't want 'em, don't throw them out. Mail them to me! 🤣
Buy a tupperware container and a couple of battery powered hand warmers. Keep your ammo and loaded mags in the closed tupperware container with the hand warmers. When it is your turn to shoot, bring the tupperware container to the line with you. I use these handwarmers: https://www.amazon.com/OCOOPA-Warmers-Rechargeable-Delivery-Working/dp/B08HJCWZ9K That should solve your problem. Good luck!
I bought a dedicated pistol cleaning kit for my range bag. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08R7KWN4N/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The cleaning rods have been used to remove squibs from barrels way too often. A multitool, some assorted hex wrenches, and a tool for my optics rounds out the tools. I think a small flashlight is going to be added. A simple first aid kit (assorted band aids, alcohol wipes, Tylenol, nitrate gloves, etc...) and some extra foam ear protection fit in a small ziplock bag.
I got one of these sets https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-Professional-Gunsmithing-Screwdriver-43-Piece/dp/B00HTN4EWG
and took the bits that actually fit the screws on all my guns and put them in a small thick ziplock bag with a glock punch and a .035 and .050 allen wrech (for overtravel adjustments). I feel like if I need more than this something is took fucked to worry about at the range lol.
I would dryfie index weak hand, strong hand, both hands 10 with Red dot covered(range panda or tape) and 10 with dot uncovered finger on trigger last 2 each press trigger.... willing to bet your eyes are following the dot...dot should appear where you look or dot follow eyes.
Working on draw will help index but does not help a whole lot with time in a match.....pastie on mirror focus on the perfect draw good grip with support hand, constant movement from holster to full presentation 50% speed, trigger finger on trigger with no press for 50-100 reps.. last 10 press trigger
Read this book ver good info... https://www.amazon.com/Practical-Shooting-Training-Benjamin-Stoeger/dp/B08T43T7KM
Good luck and happy training
Here you go: Thing 5465458
I used these magnets from Amazon though it should still function without magnets. The holster is specifically designed for right-handed loading of the bullets in the enbloc clip.
A golf rain glove on my support hand.
Strong hand to gun isn't a problem for me even on sticky days—wipe it off on my pant leg if it's sweaty, and it sticks to the gun fine. It's the support hand to strong hand interface that needs some help, because skin on skin mediated by sweat is slippery. The rain glove solves that problem for $7.50, doesn't cost anything in dexterity, lasts practically forever (after about a year, I think I'm just about ready to retire my daily dry fire glove), and doesn't leave any residue on my hands or gun.
I bought a couple of these to use as a backup option during matches while I was prototyping and stress testing some 3D printed mag pouches for my M&P. They're basically universal. I did end up using them for a few matches and liked them so much more than I thought I would. Now they're my standard pouches for pistol competitions and I bought several extras as loaners, since I regularly invite people new to the sport to come shoot matches with me.
If nothing else, they're a really cheap and perfectly workable solution until you can get something a little nicer.
> Right now I can't do it fast without moving my point of aim.
This is likely magnifying an issue with the way you pull the trigger on all guns. Two most common ones are
Either way, you will probably need to change your technique or focus on what a good, straight-back trigger pull is. Once you can do "Trigger Control At Speed" (from Stoeger's Dry Fire book) well with a DA gun, that same trigger pull technique will improve your fast shooting with every other gun too.
https://www.amazon.com/Julbo-Sherpa-Mountain-Sunglasses-Spectron/dp/B001O0DN4U
You can pop the side panels off. The ear hooks are very soft with a very thin plastic wire. Only issue I have with these is that they are too dark on cloudy days sometimes.
Sorry, it was SSP. I've swithed to red dots for most of my pistols, but when I pull out something with irons, I'm glad to have them in my range bag.
These are the exact ones i wear. Again i prefer an open toe box and minimum rise. I don't like when my toes are smashed together. I believe REI sells Salomon, innov8 and altra. Best to go try them on somewhere and find what fits you best. Then buy them somewhere else if you choose. I recently switch to a sub $30 inner belt which has a buckle loop that allows me to pull the belt tighter. I got it from Amazon and while I only have 3 matches on it so far, I love this belt. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B098RR7XT9 It has the Loop (felt) part facing out like it should and is comfortable enough that I can just leave it on before and after matches.
It has made my life so much better. Trying to get my old inner belt so tight so it would hold 75 rounds of 100 gr rifle rounds and 50 rounds of 147gr 9mm plus pistol (and some other stuff) was always a pain with "overlap" style belt. Especially since the matches I shoot typically have lots of movement (I'm not talking just running). With this new belt getting it tight isn't an issue.
Buy a bottle of liquid grip which helps and some Sports Tape for your grip.
Odd. I could only find my XXL size and its only $52. Check out their Krydex store. Four mag holders are only $30+. If you can't get the right belt, there are several inexpensive option on Amazon.
Found one! If anyone is looking for a belt for a young shooter, her it is. Fit perfect, very stiff, and he loves it. $33.
I use a cart list this cause I live in Miami. So I can use in the sand and at any range without issue.

I use these. You can get them so they are obviously not your ammo (nickel or brass case color, blue or orange bullet color). They are a bit pricey though.
I've seen people on the internet use fired brass, loaded with a bullet and no powder (or some inert substance) with a bit of rubber in the primer pocket.
Personally I just bought the snapcaps.
I use this one. Small, light, cheap. I’ve forgotten to turn it off after my run and as a result have captured a ton off footage running the timer, shit talking the boys, even the entire ride home. Point being…good battery life.

I use these and have turned a bunch of guys onto them. I do buy them a size small though. They wear out eventually but they're my favorite that I've tried yet (and I've tried a bunch).
Get the freedom reaper cantilever mount if you’re looking to save money It’s half the cost of the Geissele mount. It will Get the scope mounted lower and further forward than any other cantilever mount besides the Geissele.
When you can afford it, I recommend getting the basic White Oak service Rifle barrel. They cost a little over 200 but will get you to High Master with no problems.
I use this free shot timer app; it works quite well and has the ability to specify different weapons and save multiple drills.
What belt and pouch set up would you suggest. I was just looking at this one on Amazon but then came across your post. comp belt
I just shot my first 3-gun match. I used a cheap pouch for my shotgun shells. Was it great? Nope! Did it work? Yep! Not many places near me run 3-gun matches very often and I didn’t want to spend a fortune on the shotgun gear if I’m not going to run them much.
I carried 2 spare pistol mags and a spare AR mag on my belt along with the shell pouch.
top focal, I think is what my eye doctor calls a mechanics prescription. It's an inverted bifocal lens. The close up prescription is at the top of the lens rather than the bottom.
Makes sense for a mechanic working over their head, or a shooter who is looking through the top of the lens.
You can experiment with this a little with a standard pair of safety glasses and some OPTX stick on bifocal lenses.
I do dominant eye near vision with a focal distance of around 36" and non dominant eye for distance vision. Each lens is a single vision lens rather than a bi, or in my case tri-focal lense. keeps the cost of the lenses down, and it works for me for USPSA. May change it up on my next visit, as I'm moving to a dot and would no longer be focusing on a front sight..
You can get air rifle silhouttes too, to shoot in the backyard (though they might be loud enough to get neigbors to notice). They are scaled down.

I got this stuff https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077KGCBJL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's about what you would expect. You get a shitload with it, I've made bookmarks from my leftover scraps.
actually, these guys, considerably less cool-looking:
You're on the right track if you want a general do-everything holster. The go-fast guys want a dropped and offset holster, but it's definitely not needed to shoot your first match.
My recommendation would be a Blackhawk Sportster Standard, which is similar to their SERPA holsters but without the finger lock that tends to induce NDs. Here's a listing on Amazon that includes XDs and XDMs in the "Size" dropdown for $16 shipped. It is not the greatest holster in the world, but it will do a good enough job on the range holding your gun securely and letting you draw it safely.
If that doesn't work for whatever reason, get a SERPA, for a similar price, and use a screwdriver to break the retention paddle out of it. Then tighten the tension screw and it becomes effectively a Sportster Standard.
I've used the 5.11 trainer (1.5") or operator (1.75") belts for the last 7 years or so. Simple and gets the job done. The trainer is currently $30 on Amazon:
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B006E8XXYW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_U5b4DbRQRZPD0
This is the belt I got. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0117RALSU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For what you pay for it, imo, it's pretty hard to beat. It's decent, more than good enough for just getting into the sport, and cheap enough that you won't regret it later when you want to upgrade to something more high speed.
I use this one at the moment IPSC Shot Timer. I had a different one on my old phone that I used more but this one seems to work ok after some calibration. C02 works because it's a lot louder than dry-firing.
I downloaded the training app Dry Practice Drill last week and I've been using it do do dryfire in my basement. I recently picked up a bunch of new pouches and a competition belt so I'm having to re-learn how my mags are positioned. I then tried the app at the range with a friend for some live fire practice and it worked really well. I can tell the time I've been spending practicing is paying off.
I've also moved to a red dot optic so I'm doing lots of practice to lock in my draw so I can see the dot. It's actually not as bad as I had feared and has been coming up naturally.
I’ve got the Peltor 500’s and find them infinitely more comfortable than Walkers and Leights (even after gel pad upgrades). USTS headband thing made them cloud-like. The electronic muffs are 100% worth it over passive mugs. 26 nrr is usually good enough; I don’t double up indoors unless someone’s shooting an AR. Haven’t tried Champions or Sordins.
A bag like this might appease your OCD. https://smile.amazon.com/Star-CV3DIS2947U-26-Vism-Discreet-Carbine/dp/B01N2ZO5FS
Any of the standard 'soft case with 3x molle pockets on outside' would do the trick but not in a "neat" way.
Could go pelican (or harbor freight knockoff) and cut the foam for exactly your gear. Super clean looks.
These things look like the same gist, if you could add some weight beneath them.
Also, I’ve been experimenting with tungsten putty a bit lately, it’s awesome for perfectly dialing whatever weight you want, you could probably pack an empty mag with your exact loaded mag weight if you pulled out the spring and follower. The drawback is that it never really sets and hardens up, so I’d make it into a “plug” of some sort using saran wrap or something. (Lesson learned: I tried packing the grip module of a lightweight 22lr trainer and it worked great, but came back two days later to find it’d halfway oozed out into my safe. That was fun to clean up.)
Noob belt question: do you think a cheap inner/outer duty belt with internal stiffener (something like this would do the trick? Other than the buckle, I’m not sure I can tell the diff between these and the entry-level competition style belts.
Yeah some mag pouches are mad expensive. I went with a black scorpion gear copy from amazon. 4 mag pouches for about $40 which is exactly what you need for production. They’ve worked great for about a year now. You can cant them anyway you like.
Wolf Tactical Rigger's Belt. Low cost at $20, I originally bought it to use for my work belt. The 2-ply nylon is nice and stiff for hanging a radio and other equipment off of it. Used to swap it out between work and shooting, but was so happy with it that I bought a second one to use exclusively for shooting. Velcro closure works great (or you can thread it through the more secure buckle). Just a cheaper way to get the same practicality of the more expensive belts.
I don't see anything in the rules against it. That being said, I haven't seen anyone wearing gloves. I'd say go for it, and if it's against the rules, someone will let you know.
As an alternative, consider climber's chalk and/or rosin. Chalk is great for drying out your hands, and rosin makes your hands a bit stickier/tackier. Personally, I'm fine with chalk, but I don't like the feeling of rosin, but that's just me.
I'm sorry, I should have brought that up. Dry firing rim fires or certain other historical weapons is a bad idea unless you use snap caps. However, they are cheap.

Because I'll be shooting my 1911 in single-stack, as well as a glock17 in Production class in USPSA, I got the following:

Not 100% sure of their IDPA legality, but I think they're fine, works for both of the classes that I shoot in, and I'm working on making my holsters connect with some tek-lok mounts so pretty quick to change between the two. Or even do both the same night.
For sweaty hands, I use Titegrip II. I only use a pea sized amount of the product and my hands DO NOT sweat. Last indoor match I was drenched with sweat on my shorts and shirt and not a single drop in my usually sweaty palms. A lot of people apply Titegrip first and then put on ProGrip. Personally I hate the white shit getting on my gun so I only use Titegrip and am thrilled with the product.
I've been using the Blackhawk single mag pouches. If you don't care what color you get, they can get as low as $9 each.
I got an Uncle Mike's Competition belt. 20 somethin bucks on Amazon.
EDIT:.... wait.... IDPA? Apparently IDPA has different rules than USPSA and IPSC. Just noticed this one.
You may want to replace that POS blackhawk with a Bladetech. I have the same blackhawk carrier, and it does not work with 2.0"+ belts. If you modify it to work, it will break.
Ben Stoeger is a multi-time national champ in USPSA. I found his book to be invaluable. Starts with the fundamentals, and covers everything else needed to do well in USPSA. He writes plainly, with a no-BS, get-to-the-point approach.
The one with the dropped and offset hanger would probably be good to start.
KJW Model-616 KP06 Gas Blowback Full Metal Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0057S1KCM/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_IvDAwbFBCD3PP
It is 6 inch, but the extra inch should put you closer on weight than a 5 inch airsoftgun.
My first reaction to this was, hang on, "same price range"? But I see GoPro has smartly introduced an entry level model that competes at the $200 price point instead of their top-of-the-line model at $400.
Anyone know how good the video quality on that is once it's been de-fisheyed? Main thing for a shooting camera for me is not making the targets appear super far away slash having my forearms fill half the picture. 4-year old CountourHD is my standard right now but it's starting to show signs of age...
I asked a similar question over in /r/guns last week. Check out the responses.
I think your best bet is to buy a Kindle version of Dry Fire Training. Sometimes it's worth paying money for stuff :)
I had a similar experience with the Blackhawk Sportster Standard CQC. It goes by a couple different names (not everyone includes the "standard" moniker) but basically it's just a SERPA without the index finger lock. That link is to a $14 shipped one for a Glock 17 with belt AND paddle attachments. Hard to beat that and the holster is actually decent.
These are the metric dry fire targets from DAA.
They're absolutely fantastic. I really like the fact that they come with very small (3") targets so even a small area like mine, I can practice sighting in on very far targets.
Pairing this up with Dry Fire Par Time Tracker, I put in a sold 45 minutes of dry fire practice and thoroughly enjoyed myself!
