After this incident, I ordered one of these: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Emergency-Cutter-Window-Hammer/dp/B073J92G1J/ref=sr_1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1542824818&sr=1-4&keywords=amazon+emergency+window+breaker.
If the only way for me to get your attention when YOU'RE RISKING MY LIFE is to destroy your belongings, so be it.
I hope you gave her hell through her window after that, and/or submitted a police report.
Glad you're safe though!
It was nothing special, just a regular dash cam app, Auto Guard.
I eventually abandoned it because the combination of recording, gps'ing my ride, and playing mp3s was just trashing my battery. (plus this was way before video stabilization, so everything was kinda jello.)
So the one I use gives me a 360 view, the only time I look back now is just randomly for quick double checks if I’m merging into a lane that’s to my left, or if I am not wearing my mirror. Surprisingly my brain does totally okay from going to looking back over my shoulder when I don’t have the mirror.
My suggestion, the way to angle it for the one worn with glasses is to get into a riding position in a parking lot and angle it juuuuust enough to see the tip of your ear and the car you’re in front of. If your roads are to the right have the mirror attached to the left side of your glasses, I attach it as far up as possible, basically the glasses can’t bend on that side. I am unsure if you do the opposite if your roads are on the left?
Make yourself wear it EVERY ride for a month. Because I personally hated it and thought it was in my way until I got used to it being there. Now it’s like my third eye! I truly believe it saved my life once when I was hit by a distracted driver. I couldn’t escape but I at least had time to get to the middle of the lane so I was instead rear ended vs. getting hit from the side of me.
Bike Peddler Take A Look Cycling Eyeglass Mirror. This is the one I would recommend is the original and I have no clue if the “improved” original is worth the price. This used to be cheaper but now of course everything is more expensive.
Wooooo a tool talk post!
Can you take a pic of your setup? Did it come with a rubber part that mounts inside? That’s what helps it stay
These are the two I have:
Out of stock in the one I bought but will at least give you an idea on what to look for. Here you go
I actually made a post in this sub a while ago that talks a little bit about my helmet cam setup. I wear my helmet cam while commuting or doing casual rides.
When I’m riding my road bike, I have use a combination Garmin out-front mount with a GoPro mount on the bottom. K-Edge makes one as well.
Regarding the stock battery -- 1180 mAh.
That said, it's easy to find a bigger external battery pack if the OP is so inclined.
It was from Shenzhen V-SYS Technology Co; Ltd. Unfortunately, it is no longer advertised. It has a 1080 front and 720 rear camera. It also has GPS. I use this Google app. The free DashcamVewer program for Windows 10 is a good way to view the videos. It displays both cameras' videos, and the GPS location with speed etc.
Yeah, chest mounts aren't a bad option at all.
Skewer mounts like this are kinda cool -- they're probably not ideal for everyday/routine riding, but if you're in a group ride that you want to make a video highlighting, they're great for that, as the low angle view with a wheel spinning right there works well artistically.
Alas, with your camera sticking out to the side, they're at risk if your bike falls over or if you ride close to something.
Not a bad idea, works great, but i have seen a guy transporting another bike with mount car rack carrier attached to his rear rack, it was a couple of years ago, and it was pretty sweet set up and very clean looking ! Kind of this attached to his rear rack :https://www.rakuten.com/shop/cyclingdealusa/product/CB-617C/?sku=CB-617C&scid=pla_google_cyclingdealusa&rmatt=tsid:1012713|cid:1714547732|agid:67529890739|tid:pla-549029455886|crid:334259655730|nw:g|rnd:17296274357840594387|dvc:c|adp:1o10|mt:|loc:9030506&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsZ3kBRCnARIsAIuAV_QrwKbFxYPr2rt4aNVKby_5VO4kH4KO3TgIrkAxXPnA6TrBxiUf_k0aAiveEALw_wcB
Thanks for the notes from experience. I’ve never run into an issue of lock-up by external power but I’ll certainly be aware.
I don’t ride in the rain so waterproofing is not something I absolutely need to maintain, but I do see what you’re saying. I am considering using this battery and the company unfortunately does not offer a HERO8-compatible case. If I wanted to I could modify an off-the-shelf waterproof case by drilling a hole to the port and epoxying a threaded connector nut onto it (the same sort of panel connectors the battery linked above basically uses), creating a new water seal. Then the camera would still be waterproof and after tightening down the cap, the cable would be secure.
Obviously it would be way easier and cheaper to just replace the side door with one that has an opening at the port. And if damage to the port from riding is a non-issue, I may just go that route.
I tried that too but it's just easier, better and probably not to expensive to get a second hand action camera. Image stabilization on phones is (or at least was when I tried it) shitty. Plus, if you fall the phone will probably break.......but if absolutely necessary I think this could work https://www.amazon.com/Anti-Slide-Backpack-Degree-Rotary-Recording/dp/B08HYTXL3C/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=backpack+phone+mount&qid=1609345718&sprefix=backpack+phone+mo&sr=8-5
I bought a JRC Component knock-off with a go-pro mount. It bolts onto the front of the stem, so it's rock solid. I found that the clamp-on ones, no matter how nice/good/expensive, they worked loose or just didn't stay put. My bars tapper too much once they clear the stem so there's very little "meat" for the clamp-on bolts.
This made me laugh so much! <3
u/charliemikewelsh picked these up in November from Amazon. Super happy with them, you can change the lenses out and they latch on with magnets!
I wore yellow lenses on my 25mile workout early early this morning and these are the mirrored ones I wore for on my way to work!
The only downside to the goggles is they are a bit bigger so I do have to tilt my helmet back a bit so they will fit. And the yellow mirrored lenses seem to also reflect my eyes back at me.... which is a little creepy...
I would recommend getting more batteries Amazon and kicking up the fps and resolution. I use these and they have worked well.

Hey there! Here is a guide on cameras, it's a little out of date but will give you an idea of different price tiers on cameras.
It looks like the camera you mentioned is sold out for me. I have never heard of it and it looks really cool! I'd look at a cheap action camera in the meantime until they're back in stock?
Silver 7 will hands down be better quality than 50$ amazon camera. But the battery life will probably be the same... since GoPro is not known for their battery. That being said, I'd say for the price of the amazon ones they're worth a shot. At 15k reviews they can't all be bots... right?

edit:
Some specific camera suggestions by u/dougmc
Hi, this is filmed with an old GoPro Hero 3+ silver. I got 3 batteries and external charger for it to be practical, batteries last around an hour each and it was a pain charging them in the camera. I was happy with the video quality but recently upgraded to the Hero 8 Black, also with 3 batteries and external charger for them. I still run the original camera as backward facing on the same mount. The big difference is 4K instead of 1080 full HD and the hypersmooth stabilization. Check my channel for a comparison video. It's mounted on my helmet with this chespish mount from Amazon.
If you want to keep the cost down you should be able to get a second hand GoPro fairly easy although I'm extremely happy with the 8.
Here is the link, sorry totally spaced on replying to this. I really did not like it at all at first and felt as though it didn’t work at all. However, once I learned how to adjust it correctly this thing... it is a goddamn third eye, it’s amazing and makes reading traffic behind me while seeing front traffic as well insanely easier
