It varies... this book was recommended to me by a fundie-lite (homeschooling, often home churching, very conservative and strongly feeling women should be at home, but not skirt wearing or quiverfull) when I got married. Then you have the other side of the spectrum of the woman needing to being “joyfully available” at all times. book
In Beyond a Binary God, Tara Soughers argues that the creation story shows God creating things on opposite ends of the spectrum and that we're meant to understand that he also created the things that fall at other points along that spectrum. Genesis states that God made day and night--and we understand that he also created dawn and dusk. He made the sea and dry ground--no one interprets that to mean that he didn't also make swamps and marshes. In the same way, when it says that he created male and female, it means that he created cis men and cis women and everyone else who falls at another point on the gender spectrum.
A laundry basket in your trunk use to be one of those “pro life tips” that got shared around the internet. I remember reading about it a lot 10 years ago, back when using your own bags and other alternatives were just starting to pick up steam. My mom only recently stopped using a basket, while I bought some of these several years ago (they’re like $12 at Costco/Walmart). They’re amazing, and I can’t recommend them enough. Laundry baskets also work awesome for beach trips, camping, etc.
It’s a stupid thing to snark over. If it wasn’t being showcased by a Fundie everyone would be commenting on how smart it is!
Genuine question if modesty is so important even while swimming why don’t they wear something like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QLYCGRB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_CRF63TRDH22K0AWA4TWX
I just feel like swimming in clothes has to be so uncomfortable and unsafe.
There was this dude waving obnoxious signs up at Bainbridge Island that really made me think. Looked him up later and OH BOY he is a hoot.

Also I lived a couple counties away from Tontitown way back when, but never to my knowledge ran into the big names. I have met the Roberts of Oral Roberts University and seen The Power Team, if any of those can still be considered famous.
No, Deathy, they did what all publishing houses do and figured out a way to get more money. Devotionals usually get written in and are popular gifts, thus leading to people buying more and not passing them on.
I look forward to seeing these on ebay for $2.00 in a few months.
Baker Books is ultra conservative evangelical, which is likely why they haven't dropped GriftDefined and their bigoted, nazi-loving ways.
Also, looks like GD has another book publishing in October where Krusty addresses infertility and Deathy once again regurgitates how "singleness" was an "unexpected" "season." 🤢
Fucking trauma, man. Healing from it never follows the timeline that I have in mind. I have no idea at all if this will be relevant to your struggles, but this book has been insanely helpful in terms of helping me process childhood trauma. The cover looks very, very grumpy, but the book itself is amazing..
This I hope hope hope this is it. That she is like a few snarkers including my self that thought it was just teaching them to stay on a blanket for play time. Like not letting the toys get off the the carpeted play area and then using rewards and praise. Though logically that seems to be losing battle and it would only work well if you were doing something more extreme.
I just used an enclosed play yard in a rectangular shape or a pack n play full of toys

If you want to dig into this a little deeper, Comrades: The Wehrmacht from Within by Felix Römer is an excellent book that analyzes the mindset of the "ordinary" Wehrmacht member via old transcripts of Wehrmacht prisoners of war's conversations that were secretly recorded. My own grandpa was the HJ generation, not the Wehrmacht generation, but my aunt (whose father was in the Wehrmacht) said it really gave her a lot more perspective.
You should read "Educated" by Tara Westover.
Hell, you should give copies to anybody you know who is in a similar situation.

As a former infant/toddler teacher (under 24 months), and a mom, I can say this is so stupid. There is this nifty product that fits in your purse or diaper bag that quarters grapes. Best thing ever. I used it almost every day while teaching.
I can relate to this; my people on my mother's side were from the American South - Richmond, capitol of the Confederacy. They were secessionists who fought for the Confederacy, were part of the seditious government of that time, and owned many plantations between them.
Their last name is very common in the Black community, because they owned so, so many slaves. I just found this out about five years ago, and it was a huge reckoning for me. It also made me get more active in local politics and the Black Lives Matter/slavery reparations movement in particular.
I recognize that large portions of my actual, literal inheritance came through the blood and pain of countless enslaved people, thanks to the despicable actions of my ancestors. It's very sobering and painful to sift through that family history, but I feel it's my personal duty to do just that.
I found this beautiful book and gave it to all my nieces and nephews as a way to help them begin to come to terms with this truth as well:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show_Way
I believe very strongly that it is every person's obligation and duty to wrestle with the actions and possible atrocities committed by our ancestors, because it's honestly the only way we will ever move forward into a better future as a whole human race.
Legit courtship / betrothal book I read as a SEVERELY Fundie teenager. It’s part of a series too so there are other books by the same author I think.

Just be careful to invest in a good one! Check for fake reviews. Some lash serums have less than desirable side effects, like hair and vision loss :/ other than that disclaimer, I highly recommend it!
I haven't gotten to it yet but this book is on my Amazon wishlist. I'm a women's health researcher and I love learning about cultural perceptions of disease. (Fun fact, "teratology" or the study of birth defects, comes from a word meaning "a sign sent by the gods" which is why some cultures believe they're a curse and others believe they're a blessing!)
I enjoyed this book as my first step away from Christianity because I couldn’t accept hell anymore. I think most of the negative reviews are people offended at the audacity of walking away from a doctrine that has controlled people for hundreds of years.
The Evangelicals by Frances FitzGerald has a lot of info on Jerry Falwell, Sr. and the founding of Liberty. Does your school subscribe to Atlas on EBSCO? You should be able to find a ton of articles there.
They were these ones.
I homeschool my children but wouldn't use these personally. Perhaps as a supplement but they don't seem like enough.
No, not Easy Peasy... you could see the workbooks in some of her videos. I'm pretty sure the ones she showed were these ones
If I’m correct I believe these are what they’re talking about. I’ve always wanted to get some.

My big sister self published her first book this week. I am insanely proud of her. She thinks its really stupid but I have been pushing her to do it for a year. 😝
The language they use just assumes that girls will be embarrassed to talk about their puberty, ashamed of their bodies, etc… and it’s like written in a reassuring kind of tone, but it’s just weird to assume that attitude because not all girls will necessarily feel that way. But then you’re presenting it as if it’s just typical/expected and idk it felt weird to me. I didn’t want my daughter, who hasn’t yet expressed any negativity about her body, to read that and plant it into her head.

It's one I haven't given up, even though I haven't worked in cosmetics in several years 😄 There's so much to explore and Asian skincare and makeup are so fun!
My current favorite skincare item. You can also get sheet masks for super cheap from some Asian beauty sites. I love to do a clay mask (Skinfood Pear and Mint is a recent fave) followed by a sheet mask or the honey mask I linked for a nice little spa treatment, usually in a hot bath.
You might need your levels addressed. Unless you moved or got a new HVAC system (or lost a bunch of weight) it’s very odd for your skin to change that much. How is your thyroid? Dry skin can be a sign of other endocrine insufficiencies, and the entire system can get thrown out of wack when big disruptions happen.
But as a lifelong sufferer of dry skin: “slugging” is a new term for an old trick. While your skin is still damp (towel dried but not air dry), use a water-based moisturizer (glycerine is the ingredient to look for) that soaks in (I like the basic Cereve in the Tub moisturizer) and then right after “lock it in” with a petroleum-based moisturizer on top. Really severe cracked skin needs Vaseline but I prefer Lipikar Balm as the top layer, bonus points for being cheap, fragrance-free and good for the face too.
I don’t use both much during the summer, mostly just my feet, but it’s the only way I make it through winter. I also use special hand cream for my hands to prevent cracks (otherwise I can’t wash my hands without it turning painful).
I'm in a bar right now (21+, by law) that provides "adult" coloring books tear their board games! By "adult", they're really complicated/intricate, like this one: no objectionable images. They're just in a bucket next to mugs of pencils. A few people have poked at the pages, last I leafed through.
Not to mention, I've been in bars where they decided to have a 'coloring contest' with copies of a single, simple template. Those are fun, too~
I remember having a picture book that taught exactly this as a kid in the 90s. It is called The Pumpkin Patch Parable and you can still get it on Amazon.
It literally took forever to find, but here is the blanket.
Looks like a glitch? The other sizes are normally priced but the size she chose is almost 3k. No idea, really odd.
Search for 'heavy duty wooden spoons' and you should get results like this.
No way it can top 2025. Now THAT was a hilarious movie. I mean, super serious movie about the persecution of Christians during the pandemic.
Here is a $10 course that gives you a certificate. Who is going to pay $1900?
And , pretty much, indeed it is. I recommend to see how politics and fundamentals/evangelicals infiltrated politics to push their agenda. This is the book that alerted and alarmed me.

Early modern social history nerd chiming in: Keith Thomas'' Religion and the Decline of Magic: Studies in popular beliefs in sixteenth and seventeenth century England is by far the most comprehensive work on the relationship between folk magic and religion that I've come across. It's an absolute brick of a book (the edition I own weighs in at 853 pages), but it's an academic masterpiece.
Not to mention, chokers are big in kink culture, i.e. collaring. I know a number of women who wear them and had no idea what they meant until recently. 😆

I got my maternity belt from a DME provider and how Morgan is wearing it is how they taught me to wear it. The long thinner belt goes under the belly and then the wider part goes around the back and velcros to the thinner belt where those rounded ends are. I also had a strip that you could velcro to go around the top part of the belly but I never wore it. It's like this: https://www.amazon.com/NEOtech-Care-Maternity-Belt-Pregnancy/dp/B07SYQV7MR
If anyone has Kindle Unlimited, here’s another nightmare bedtime story (free if you have KU). It starts off fine then… well. Unfortunately I didn’t take screenshots when I had KU.
This is the kit I did not pay attention to the size of before I bought - part of my proven crafting track record of "ah, it'll be fine! I'll pick it up as I go!" - and then had a period of oh no when I realised that the paper chart was a full nine pages of A4 in size and the centre point start is riiiight in the middle of all that colour changing nonsense just below the eye.

...oh no, in the process of searching for this kit I've ended up on the brands amazon page and now I'm eyeing up the owl that's in the same series, and I already have an overly complicated owl kit in my stash because - see above - the only way to try blackwork is clearly to buy a rainbow-gradient-on-black-aida.
For someone who LARPs 19th Century Americana, I feel like she needs to read Giants in the Earth by Ole Edvart Rolvaag. Shit was bleak, and everyone dies.

The curly hair subreddit is great. Also never brush your hair unless it's wet, use the diffuser attachment when you blow dry your hair, and I really like leave in conditioner and curl cream.
This is what I use on my daughter. The subreddit will probably have better suggestions
Sure thing, thanks for taking a look! My mom and I had a lot of fun putting it together. It's kind of a combo sketch book/coloring book, for aspiring fashion designers.
Whatever she believes comes from this book. Scary and she teaches her children these beliefs.
I have this Duraflame Infrared Quartz Electric Stove Heater in my bedroom and I love it. Now I kind of want this tiny fireplace of Jill's to put in my office...I also built a fake fireplace and put it on a shelf (no heat), so my taste is pretty questionable!
Devoted by Jennifer Mathieu for fiction. It's about a girl's deconstruction.

I bought this one for $30:
I was 5’10” and 270lbs at the time of delivery and a large fit nicely. I wore it as a night gown a lot postpartum too. I got the dark purple color so any stains wouldn’t show, but I ended up having a primal urge to tear all my clothes off near the end anyway. It did make me feel a little bit more like a human for the first 48hrs of my induction where my body wasn’t responding and I was just trapped in the hospital for what felt like years.
Disclaimer: I’m a veterinarian so the idea of having to wash something covered in my own labor goo is NBD…. like, at least it’s MY labor goo.
Yep, I bought a special cotton gown with snaps all over it for my second birth because I found the gown the hospital gave me during my first birth really uncomfortable. The gown I bought was so much more comfortable and allowed more privacy while still giving the medical professionals full access to hook things up and check things. No one cared at all. 10/10 would recommend.
It was something like this, except mine had a cuter pattern imo:

I do apologize that I didn't share about this wonderful device because I should have known that my fellow snarkers would also like to stay warm under the covers while reading. I had tucked my MIL in on the porch under a blanket with a heating pad like a consumptive so she could enjoy the cold, fresh air of spring. She mentioned afterwards that reading on her phone was nice, but that she didn't like having to put her hand out to turn the pages.
Using the Kindle app on our Android phones, there's a setting within each book under the "Aa" > More > Turn Pages with Volume Control. (Once you set it for one book, it's saved for any book.)
Now you purchase one or two of these Wireless Camera Remote Shutter for Smartphones (2 Pack), zttopo Wireless Phone Camera Remote Control Compatible with iPhone/Android Cell Phone (one was included with a cheap ring light I had, but I gave that one to my MIL and bought more for myself) and pair it with your phone. One button goes forward in your book and the other goes back! There's a similar setting on actual Kindles and I assume on any Android tablet.
If you are an iOS person, you can turn on Switch Control and do something similar; why this isn't just part of the Kindle app is beyond me, but here we are. It takes a bit more fiddling, but YOU ARE SMART. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Those anti fog reusable cloths work pretty well. I also bought a snorkeling mask fog liquid that is safe to put on eyeglasses, and it’s worked very well.
He is clearly unhinged. "This most important book" - please. I bet Space Raptor Butt Invasion is a much more important book.
No, clearly every fundie knows that Jesus was a Middle Eastern Jew, which is why no art historians and no sociologists have ever bothered to research the question. Also, movie directors invariably cast Middle Eastern Jews like Max von Sydow, Willem Dafoe, Jim Caviezel, and Christian Bale as Jesus; they would never cast white Swedish, European-American, or English actors as Jesus, since absolutely nobody believes Jesus was white.
I've become a connoisseur of water proof bedding (incontinent older dog parent), and they've come a long way. The waterproof layers are imperceptible. These are my preferred brand because they also protect from allergens and have a terrycloth layer on the top. I'm not sure if they'd be enough for birthing, but my 50 lb dog has full on peed on them with no leakage
Such a good point!!

These days I am doing olive oil drizzled on top and then Trader Joe's Cheesy Powdertossed on top.
Growing up my mom sprinkled soy sauce on top and then tossed in nutritional yeast. The trick is finding a bottle of soy sauce that has a spout that will sprinkle and not just poor it on.
I used to work for a Christian company and they sent me to this dumb ass training, it was like four days in South Dakota and it was horrible. Also the whole time it was like minus 20 degrees. I took a regular notebook and cut out a square whole in it and I put my eReader under there. It looked like I was staring at my notebook the whole time but really I was reading dirty, dirty novels. The one I remember most was called Swimming Sweet Arrow God damn that book is risque. Chapter one two women are having sex with their boyfriends right next to each other on this farm. I loved it. Something beautiful about the juxtaposition, doing training with a Christian company and reading naughty, naughty books.
It's creepy because it is a mindset that was literally invented by Christian men to keep women at home (so was attachment parenting) and Fundie and "crunchy mamas" alike have bought into it hook, line and sinker.
Baker Books is her publisher. They're definitely clearing out stock.
Never forget they published this bestseller which refutes all the BS that Girl Defined teaches.

I'm sorry, LIGHT UP GRAPES???
Okay, these actually would be cute on a trellis with some other plants and fairy lights. But on an indoor trellis with carboard is unforgiveable.
Yes!
In the past 5 years I’ve gone through these brands: St Tropez, St Moriz, Beauty by Earth, and Loving Tan.
My favorite is Loving Tan. It is the least orange of them all, builds up on knees and elbows the least, and when I take a shower the morning after I apply it, the least amount of product washes off.
I just use whatever body lotion I have at the moment. Right now I’m using EO French Lavender body lotion. I don’t find that the type of body lotion affects how the tan turns out, but I always buy paraben and synthetic-free hippie lotions, so that may have something to do with good results. Not sure.
I always apply before bed, so that I “marinate” in the tan mousse overnight. Sounds gross but it is the way to go. The mousse doesn’t permanently stain sheets or pajamas.
I exfoliate head to toe using really foamy body wash and coarse exfoliating mitts like these ones.
I don't know which one you're referencing, but this one is really good! I think you'd enjoy it.
Don't know if the link is working, but it's called "what the hell"

You have to siphon water out of the tank in order to get the tank vacuum working.
It’s something like this, you stick the bigger part in the water and then you have to suck on the tube to get the water up and then once it’s going it’ll continue to flow
This is the one I have--there are a bunch on Amazon. Not certain if they sell them at places like Ulta or Sally Beauty. I've seen videos where people use it in a circular motion, I don't do that as it knots up my hair.
If you get one, let me know how it works for you! I've had a scalp brush for 18 months and I really like how my scalp feels so much cleaner. My kids want one so I'll probably soon get them each one.

Ann Rule's book Small Sacrifices on the Diane Downs murders goes into a lot of detail about Diane's past, and her religious upbringing, and how that might have influenced her. Highly recommend it, it's a pretty easy read and very interesting.

Mask wearing PSA: if you have a n95 respirator, make sure you are wearing it correctly!!! I help fit test masks at the hospital by me and the dental resident in the second picture has his on completely incorrectly. Also, I’m surprised he was not made to shave because we require all personal to shave or wear a different type of respirator if they can’t.
In case you are interested, here is how to wear a 3m aura respirator (what they are wearing incorrectly in the picture. They are actually quite comfortable and will fit* about 70% of people): 1) place on head with one strap above your ear and the other below. If you have long hair that is down, the lower strap should go below the hair. 2)holding firmly to the nose point and the bottom tab, adjust the mask on your face. The bottom should go below your chin and there should be NO pleats in the part that shapes to your face. If there are, pull if further up/down. If you can’t, you will need a smaller respirator for proper fit* 3) form the nose wire to your nose. Do NOT pinch with one hand. Instead use both hands to apply pressure equally. Use a down and out motion. 4) blow out with your hand in front of your face. If you feel air escape, repeat the above steps until proper seal is formed. * fit is a technical term meaning the mask/respirator has formed a seal and there a few outside air particles inside. You know if a mask/respirator will fit you with a fit test. However, that isn’t happening at the moment, even for health care workers. Best practice is to wear the mask/respirator in the correct way as it is more effective than a cloth mask or surgical mask, even if it doesn’t “fit.” As far as I know, wearing it halfway up your chin would not be more effective…
Even though there was a brief time in my house growing up where we tried to be fundie, we just defaulted back to super conservative evangelical. I get what you mean. It sucks. Especially growing up feeling conflicted about your feminine purpose in life. Then throw some queerness into the mix? Jesus that shit was rough. During the time we weren’t fundie-lite it was easy to fall down that rabbit hole on YouTube (when i was finally allowed on it lol) and Pinterest. Especially in 2016. That was just the religious/right wing golden days and teenage me drank that shit up. I hadn’t looked into girl defined then, but I was really into proverbs 31 anything and would’ve fallen for them. return of the daughters and the princess and the kids fucked me up tho lol.
And she could have put water in the sink, given them a bin of not breakable stuff to be 'washed' or made it a game of "will it sink or float?", It would have been a fun activity. My son loves that. It's a bit messy, but with a splat mat it helps reduce a bit.
She makes her life so much harder than it needs to be.
I don't have a recommendation that the other person didn't give, but also the book Flour, Water, Salt, Yeast has been really helpful for me.
The problem is that bibles, especially the better ones with notes etc., are expensive. I'm not as familiar as many others with English translations, but I think any translation that is not KJV is a good start.
I started to look, and Amazon has the NIV cultural background bible for a pretty good price. Afaik the translation is decent enough (and, very important, readable). And I now want the ESV archaeological bible. You sent me down a rabbit hole, thanks xD

I wouldn't put it past her. I see a substantial amount of Americans on decor shows and social media who put up flag- or map-themed decor in their houses, particularly ones that are made to look rustic and old like so:
https://www.amazon.com/Rustic-Wood-American-Decor-Vintage/dp/B079R5PBJ1
It's a bit peculiar to me because other than the college student with a flag as a curtain, or maybe magnets or beer cozies, I've never seen Canadian themed decor in a house.
A redditor once told me they sell that kind of Americana decor at Hobby Lobby in the USA for cheap, so that's why it's so common.
It's weird as fuck (but strongly in line with white colonialism) how fixated western Christians are with Africa. North Africa was one of the key regions of the world as far as Christian history goes. It's like they don't even know their own past.

Thanks for the crossover. I'm playing a Catherine game right now and maybe I should just let the AI win.
Apparently so. if you look for the book 'The meaning of marriage' by Tim Keller, you'll find it here on Amazon. His bio on that page says he's from Pennsylvania and a Presbyterian minister.
Lady fell down a mountain in these and they still didn’t tear:

I love my Amazon version by Yathon of it. Shows your heathen ankles and clavicle but supremely comfy.
Mentioned this in a comment, but the Dragons in Our Midst series.
A boy finds out his father is an ancient dragon who had a human form for centuries, making the kid biologically half-dragon. He discovers another half-dragon girl at his school. Boy eventually learns he can breathe fire I think? And the girl has full-blown dragon wings.
They team up with a professor who is a descendent of Merlin the Wizard, and they have to fight some evil guy who think dragons are demonic and wants to kill them.
The book is a mix of sci-fi and medieval fantasy, involves time/dimensional travel, and has lots of Christian symbolism (think Narnia if it was written by a chimpanzee.)
I adored these books as a kid and still have a place in my heart for them, but they always gave me this weird feeling of surrealism, especially the 3rd book where they travel to different circles of Sheol. Was just very strange, and I felt like the author was trying to make a ton of points that didn't land.
The "Christian" aspect was equal parts literal (talking about God) and allegorical (ie boy and girl are implied to be these Edenic figures, another character gets wounds through her palms, split-biology similar to Jesus as man/God, persecution themes, etc.)
And lots of nonexistent science that always felt contrived.
Was it the Dragons in Our Midst series? I came here to look for that one! I loved them as a preteen, but in retrospect they were.... very weird. Surrealist almost.
I think Bethy needs to see the thing that helps me see God.

(Seriously though, I’ve never used it above the 3rd setting. It has 10. You’re welcome!)
And best of all, if you get killed because you won't stop harassing people who really want to be left alone, you can have people write shit books for children about your "martyrdom"!!!
My ex was big on children stories about white Protestants from the US harassing tribes in the Amazon until they got "martyred".
Obviously they only got martyred because those tribes were so violent, backwards, and misled by Satan.
