Blog post! https://civilization.com/news/entries#civilization-vi-alexander-the-great-leads-macedon
Did you hate Alex in Civ V? Be prepared to renew those feelings. He has TWO unique units, a stronger version of the Barracks, and he wants to rule the world. Seriously, I've only played one game against him and I hate him every bit as much as I hated his previous Civ-incarnation. You've been warned.
Leader - Montezuma I - This is a special edition for those who preorder, but it unlocks for everyone 90 days after official release.
National Ability - Aztecs can use their builders to rush construction of Districts.
Leader Ability - Gifts for the Tlatoani - Luxuries give amenities to extra cities, each individual luxury gives additional military power.
Unique Unit - Eagle Warrior - Replaces the standard warrior, but can turn defeated enemies (But not Barbarians!) into Builder units.
Unique Infrastructure - Tlachtli - In the Entertainment District. Gives amenities, faith, and Great General Points.
I CAN'T SPELL SHIT YO.
It's a really expansionist civ. My guess is that you pump Eagle Warriors, and then invade your immediate rivals. You use these in order to build up districts, so that your cities become powerhouses. You also make sure that your enemies have the luxuries you don't have, so that you can be more powerful as you attack your next target.
IN A SPECIAL BONUS EDITION:
New Wonder! - Huey Teocalli
This wonder probably gives a ton of faith, as it was the place where Aztecs did their blood sacrifices. Maybe it gives a small burst of faith upon every kill? It's in the blog post.
And, of course, here's the accompanying blog post: https://civilization.com/news/entries#civilization-vi-jayavarman-vii-leads-khmer

So is Ed not the lead designer anymore?
What I really hope for is that they actually implement this bit from the blog post:
> ... Polders also served a military purpose. As Wilhelmina alluded to Kaiser Wilhelm II, opening the sluice gates at high tide and sealing them at low tide created an inaccessible swamp the German army couldn’t cross during WWI.
Imagine if polders counted as land for your military units only (and maybe for open borders or allies, too). That'd bring some really interesting tactical depth to polder placement as well.
ITT: people who have played for long time feeling ashamed for not noticing this feature that was added to single player in September 2019 update. No need to be ashamed, nor shame others for not noticing. I usually select my civ in the simple view and then switch to advanced view where I don't anymore look to the left side where civs are.
> For 30 years you’ve raised cities, built wonders, and rewritten history a million times over. Civilization simply wouldn't be the best strategy series of all time without its players. So over the next few months we’re commemorating three decades of greatness from Civilization players with new challenges, fun surprises and amazing offers.
Nothing specific, but there is a short letter from Sid Meier on the site.
https://civilization.com/news/entries/it-s-civilization-s-big-30-year-celebration/
Weeeeeeell I guess that does lend a bit of credit to the leaks
Can't stress how pleased I am to see Inca and Polynesia all but confirmed (Vesuvius too?)
It'll be good to ditch the Natural Disasters mod - no discredit intended to the creator, but without any supporting graphics it was literally just "read a list of the effects when there's a natural disaster and hope it doesn't hurt anything you built." Which is a shame, but nonetheless, I'm happy to move on.
Side note: did the dam REALLY need to be an entire district? Couldn't it have been a building within an aqueduct district next to a river? I feel like with wonders and districts, there's already a lot of free tiles being used up, and often find I have next to no space for farms when planning out cities. Don't think this is going to make it any easier, and I hate seeing tiles "disappear" to districts that provide very little

Nothing shouts compelling argument like shitting on millennials (which is how you spell it, FYI), but considering the game's developers are mostly on the older side, it doesn't really hold up:
https://civilization.com/news/entries/en-civilization-vi-meet-the-developer
Civilopedia? They're barely getting actual game text correct. Spring update says:
> Corrected the bonus text for the Zoning Commissioner Governor promotion (it said 30% but it is actually 20 %.)
I made decisions as if it was 30% since the day R&F was released... because I rely on game text instead of combing through code...
Note to those with withdrawal symptoms: Firaxis is running a Civ 6 AI battle on twitch starting in just over 4.5 hours (3:30 ET) https://civilization.com/news/entries/announcing-the-civilization-vi-ai-battle-royale-on-twitch
I think they did a few minor changes to the AI, such as better district placement.
Some notable ones from last patch that could be what you're experiencing:
Improved AI ability to move great works around to get theming
Improved city planning with regard to adjacency bonuses
Improve ability to utilize city-states, beyond just suzerainty
In the original Sid Meier's Civilization, you could be rewarded throughout the game by expanding your ruler's palace, and were presented with modular pieces of different styles of buildings you could mix and match, sometimes in weird clashing ways. You could also upgrade an existing piece to a more elaborate version, which would not affect the ones adjacent, clashing even more. This looks like the result of that.
They kinda fixed this in the February update, it's still not overwhelming but I've had to build some anti air units which I never had to before.

There will be Persia, one other civ, scenario(s) and balance changes.
>In addition, the Spring 2017 update to Civilization VI will come with balance changes, multiplayer changes, and bug fixes for everyone who owns the game!
Except, they call this out in their article so it's a -safer- bet: https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-gathering-storm-new-expansion-release-date-pc-february-14-2019/
> You’ll find that with Gathering Storm you can also create both Mountain Tunnels and Railroads. Even more ways to bend the map to your will and make sure there are really efficient ways to get units and trade goods across your empires!
4 civs have been added since the game released (Poland, Australia, Persia, and Macedon), along with some new scenarios. You do have to buy them individually unless you have the Digital Deluxe Edition, which comes with all the extra civs and scenarios. This civ is one of two new content packs coming soon, as Firaxis's response to some fan complaints (big thread on /r/civ from a while ago summing up fan disappointment, thread from a few months ago about Firaxis announcement of more content) that the Digital Deluxe Edition wasn't worth the extra money. We don't know specifically when Nubia will be out to play, but the previous civ announcement videos were only a few days to a week before the content released, so likely not long.
I take Earth Goddess in 90% of games, so I reluctantly appreciate this balance. And it's definitely still one of the strongest pantheons.
Source: https://civilization.com/en-GB/news/entries/civilization-vi-february-2021-game-update-available-now/
The original announcement always made clear it would be spread over two DLCs. I really have no idea where folks got the idea they would come as one, probably just reddit as an echochamber
https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-digital-deluxe-new-content-free-dlc
"In the coming months, we’ll be releasing two additional Civilization & Scenario Packs for Civilization VI that will introduce three new leaders representing civilizations from Africa and Southeast Asia."
Kinda funny that Tomyris is also in the game. Actually now that I think of it her agenda and Cyrus' ability are complete opposites. She hates those who declare surprise war and Cyrus benefits from it. Destined to hate each other.
UPDATE - And they are adding Macedon at the same time. Led by good ol' Alexander of course.
https://civilization.com/news/entries#civilization-vi-alexander-the-great-leads-macedon
This was absolutely changed in an earlier patch, they reintroduced the concept as part of RaF, namely that Magnus top tier ability allows the city in which he is established to benefit from any number of IZ regional buildings.
See the Winter 2016 patch notes:

Hey man, just wanted to let you know it is not a preorder exclusive. AFAIK, the preorder bonus is an EARLY ACCESS to the Aztec civilization. It will unlock for EVERYONE free of charge after 90 days (from release). ^^source
You're right, they said "two additional Civilization & Scenario Packs for Civilization VI that will introduce three new leaders representing civilizations from Africa and Southeast Asia."
https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-digital-deluxe-new-content-free-dlc
So I guess it's possible (but seems unlikely) they'd crank out 2 new leaders for existing civs and call it the 6th DLC?
The DLC announcement itself is on the front page of their site: https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-digital-deluxe-new-content-free-dlc
The expectation it'll be this month is based on their current schedule of updating builds to QA groups, and a leak from Aspyr.

I highly recommend reading through the full release from Ed Beach. He goes over a lot of the features in some detail.
I'm hoping we'd finally get to use her at her full power, something to help in Diplomatic victory perhaps?
It's on the announcement site (https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-gathering-storm-new-expansion-release-date-pc-february-14-2019/)

>NEW LEADERS AND CIVS: Nine new leaders from eight new civilizations are introduced. Each brings unique bonuses and gameplay, as well as a total of nine unique units, four unique buildings, three unique improvements, two unique districts and one unique governor.
> Just buy him Civ 5 and he can let his angst out there
or Civ 6 but I like the religion features on CIV 5
(I don't have a computer capable of running it, and commit the sin of covetousness for said computer)
Isn't Mongolia from the Rise & Fall expansion? They wouldn't be in the base game.
Here's the description of the dlc on their website and it seems everything but the Mongolia aspect works with the base game
I'm frustrated that lack of worker automation in Civ6 is an intentional design decision. It makes playing large maps tedious for me.
> First, we have taken our player’s existing use of cities on one-tile wide isthmuses (what our fans call “canal cities”) and officially recognized these features with the art on the map (which shows a navigable channel through these cities).
It sounds like cities act as canals like they currently do (with new graphics to represent that), and the canal districts can be built to extend them.

It actually does this to a degree since the spring patch.
>Adjusted Warmonger penalties for City Population: > * When applying a warmonger diplomatic penalty for capturing a city, reduce that penalty if the city is smaller than the average city in the game as follows: * If the city’s population after conquest is below the average population of all the cities in the game, reduce the warmonger penalty by the percentage that city’s population is below the average. * EXAMPLE: Persepolis is conquered and its population after conquest is 6. But the average size of a city in the game is 8. So this city is 2 / 8 = 25% below the size of the average city in the game. Therefore the warmonger penalty is reduced by 25%.
Actual patch notes didn't mention a change either.
> Lithuanian Union: Taking territory from a foreign city with a Culture Bomb converts it to the majority religion (was only the religion founded by Poland).
So, perhaps they were playtesting a change they didn't mean to go with, and forget to revert changes they made to the loading screen?
What does her civilopedia entry say and what does it say when you click on her face up top?
Given there's a whole new tier of governments, there may be a whole new tier of Government Plaza buildings to go with it.
Edit: Curiously, the total number of announced unique infrastructures equals nine according to this page - four buildings, three improvements and two districts. That might create a situation akin to Brazil or Rome (Brazil has two unique districts with the same role; Rome has the Roman Fort and Baths).
There's said to be 18 new units in the game, 9 of which are UUs. This means that one of the new leaders has an associated unit (I personally think the Ottomans are most likely to have two UUs, but it could be Sweden). That still leaves 9 units unaccounted for.
There's a good chance there'll be some units in the future era, but I think at least some will be filling existing gaps in promotion lines (most likely including an Explorer unit to fill the gap between Scouts and Rangers). The description of England's Redcoat suggests there won't be a generic Rifleman unit for them to replace, though it may be simply that the text files haven't been updated yet.
I don’t know about any place where they are put together, however the official site makes quite a good job explaining which changes applies to each expansion (it says it besides each change).
I leave you the link to the most recent patch, the most important one if you don’t have the expansion pass

The "sophisticated pincer attack" is likely simply a coincidence.
It was here is the press release . They technically didn't say it was going to be available on the same date, your right on that, but that list does include Mac and it does say May 2020 for the first pack. Plus, that's the whole point that the original press release did have it in the list and somehow removing it without explicitly addressing .

Scroll to the bottom. As far as the small changes, you'll have to watch all of the livestreams.
I recommend Civ 6, it has much more cool things and details and it's having an expansion February that looks to be AMAZING.

Civ 6 beats 5 in how the mechanics give more things to do.
Example: You want to hurt your nemesis German Empire but your land forces arent strong enough yet.
You can send your bombers to smash German tile improvements, districts and farms to cripple them.
Or you can send your top spy to inspire rebels to ambush them, or sabotage their factories.
There's also systems like war weariness that affects empires that have been too long in a major war..
The district system and Goverments make coming back to earlier games impossible for me too.
Civ 5 is too streamlined for me after 6.
most of them come from Here. They are basically zoomed in versions of the pictures shared by Firaxis. There is also one or two Screenshots posted "exclusive" in this sub
There's a limit to stickied threads on Reddit: only two per sub can be stickied. I would actually love to sticky more threads so we can have Update Threads, Bug Report Threads, Questions Threads, and Event Threads all at once, but sadly this isn't doable. Sidebar is also cramped, so I also can't put a lot of threads there either.
Anyway, patches are easily found and you can ask around for analysis. That's the only thing we can do now with limited stickies. You can read previous patches here though it hasn't been updated. The latest patch can be found here.

ya but I think this got nerfed with the winter update.
I used to see like a factory bonus of whatever the regional bonus was... now it appears that I am only seeing one factory bonus per city despite having more than one factory in the 6 tile range. Like shouldnt I get the cities factory bonus + whatever the greatest regional bonus is?
https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-winter-2016-update-now-live
For your reference
We don't know yet. All the Let's Plays that have been released have been on Prince, and the early copies were only released to popular YTers who almost always play on Deity.
There is an AI Battle Royale at some point today though, that might show off if the tactical AI is any better.
> Four post-launch DLC packs that add new maps, scenarios, leaders, and civilisations
Furthermore it states that buying the Deluxe edition will get you the DLC at a discounted price compared to buying them individually later on.
I suspected that the Aztecs weren't included in that as they technically weren't what I would have thought of as being 'post-launch' as they're day 1 DLC, but then again having them on day one is termed early access which makes me think that they are counted as post launch.
So I guess, technically this wording is somewhat ambiguous
I guess there's a chance that they've planned for Aztec DLC, + another 3 DLC, & with the current wording they could get away with doing another DLC or not. Except it would seem silly worrying that people would be angry if you said there would be n DLC & then because you later thought of another DLC that people would be angry that there's now n+1 DLC.
Wait no, I could see people complaining about DLC dilutation or something, so maybe they like the technically piece of ambiguity
^(although I'm sure a number of people will strongly argue that it isn't ambiguous)
I know exactly what you mean; To find pictures like this, you need to check the accompanying blog post with the first look video. You find them in the comments of the first look videos on here.
Sorry, it’s 2, 3 is corporation. You either had whales somewhere else and didn’t notice it (I think being suzerain of a city state that has one counts as long as you have at least one in your empire) or it was a bug.
It’s explained in the patch notes here. https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-vietnam-kublai-khan-pack-available-now/
It is stated that one of the two leaders of the fifth pack of the New Frontier pass will require the Rise&Fall expansion, so no (well at least you won't be able to play Kublai Khan as Mongolia).

Eh, I understand where you're coming from with the big new features, but this overview indicates 8 new civs, 6 new game modes, new maps, new wonders/buildings/units/etc.
And on top of that we get a year of free, regularly scheduled updates as well. Seems like a good deal to me, but I've more than got my money's worth already from playing the game, so I may be biased.
Hola! Depende....

A quick search for Egypt and Cleopatra show nothing direct, though a minor bugfix for how the chariot is counted (ranged cav now). Might be a slight buff to the UU due to the nerf to swordsmen? Though pikemen are buffed.
There was nothing in the release notes about that (https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-april-2021-game-update-available-now/). So did they accidentally change it to trebuchets or did they forget to note the change and update the text?
It wasn’t originally but a quick search shows it on the play store, so yes!

Those packs ARE the New Frontier Pass. Unless you see something that's not listed here (which I'd be curious to know), here is the list of packs included in said Pass: https://civilization.com/new-frontier-pass/
Keep in mind you can always buy the individual packs instead of the Passes in most games, including this one.
with the patch, tall play has been buffed in a few ways.
Cards like Rationalism that give up to a conditional +100% district building yields have had their criteria made harder to meet (3 adj. and 10 pop -> 4 adj. and 15 pop), rewarding taller play.
Some eurekas and inspirations have been made easier to attain (insp. for Professional Sports went from building 4 Entertainment Complexes to 2), reducing the need to go wide to get the boosts.
Amenities have been changed again, with any negative amounts once again counting as “Unhappy”, and “Happy” and “Ecstatic” requiring +3 and +5 amenities respectively, However, Happy and Ecstatic now provide +10% and +20% to all yields, incentivizing a smaller core of high amenity cities.
Neighborhoods have been buffed through the Public Transportation card, which has been changed to provide food and production from high-appeal neighborhoods.
The mid- and late-game GPP generating cards, such as Science Foundations, have been changed to provide GPP from buildings, rather than a flat amount. > Science Foundation: +2 Great Scientist Points for every University and +4 Great Scientist Points for every Research Lab. +2 Great Engineer Points for every Factory and +4 Great Engineer Points for every Power Plant.
A more minor buff includes changes to the Wisselbanken card and the Democracy government, whose food/production bonuses for trading with allies now also apply to City-States you are Suzerain of.
It's a part of the Frontier Pass.
In the Frontier Pass, you have several civilizations and several new game modes added. One of those new game modes is called "Secret Societies".
This mode allows you to pick from one of four Secret Societies to enhance your civilization. They all focus on different aspects of the game. The Owls of Minerva are a sort of Econ / Spy society.
>Why there aren't any attempt to (turn-based) strategic games like Civilization or Heart of Iron?
Why do you say there haven't been any attempts?
For me, I have to select the top left news panel which sends you to the patch notes from the main news page (https://civilization.com/en-GB/news/).
Even when I'm on the page itself, copy and pasting the url back into the bar causes the page to not be found, really weird!
I love BE more than Civ 5 and I've spent a lot of time on both, but I also use a ton of mods on both.
BE has an issue with having some great ideas and designs, but just not doing enough with them - aliens, affinities, and generally presenting the background in-game.
Mods help with that though, and it's pretty good at making you feel alone on an alien world at first.
When they were hyping the game before release, and before the inspection, they wrote some in-setting leader interviews, or commentary on them to give extra background. Tragically they're a bit tricky to track down nowadays, but this is a link to one of them.
I found this last night, https://civilization.com/new-frontier-pass/
It does not go in details, but will tell you which pack with get new District, City-States, etc.
The January pack is interesting, it says a new Civilization and two leaders, but there is stars next to leader. You read below and it says one of the new leaders needs Rise and Fall DLC, which means it is a Civilization already in that pack.
My two guess from which R&F Civilization it would be, is Dutch and Mongols. I say Dutch, because William of Orange was in a few of the Civ games of past. I might be wrong, since it is me guessing. I am swaying towards the Mongols due to a comment below about them.
So as far as the new Civilization for January, I am thinking Vietnam. I heard that multiple times by people, thinking that is one of the new Civs in FP.
So, November Babylon, do to leak.
January, Vietnam and maybe Mongol or Dutch.
March, I have to Idea. Could be someone completely new or an old favorite. My guess and wish would be an old favorite, Lincoln. He was in a few of the Civ games in the past and he was one of my favorites. If it is something new, I would like to see another Native North American tribe.
From their own Website
Even thou I remeber seeing the graphic with districts and wonders shown along the line, I cannot find it anywhere
It was mentioned in the Ethiopia Pack patch notes, just under the section about the new Diplomatic Quarter. I think it applies to the pass owners but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
You look young and have a not-too masculine face. Overall round shape, small chin, no prominent brow ridge from that angle. From the beard shadow on the upper lip but not on the rest, it looks like you won't have too bad a time with facial hair. The nose reminds me of Jadwiga from Civ VI.
yes, some features in the New Frontier Pass require previous expansions (never any of the smaller DLC, however). For details what content requires which DLC, look here:
Except for one alt leader requiring Rise & Fall specifically, only having Gathering Storm will let you enjoy all its content.
They are alternate versions for people who bought the season pass. With new agendas and abilities. You can still play as the old ones.
"EXCLUSIVE BONUS: TEDDY ROOSEVELT AND CATHERINE DE MEDICI PERSONA PACKS Two of Civilization VI's leaders are transformed with a new look and new abilities when you lead America and France! “Rough Rider Teddy” excels at keeping the peace on his home continent, and “Magnificence Catherine” can use Luxuries to overwhelm the world with Culture and Tourism. Each Persona Pack contains a brand-new take on a favorite leader, with a new leader model and background, new gameplay bonuses, and an updated agenda that reflect the changes to the leader’s personality. The Persona Packs are available exclusively to owners of the New Frontier Pass and will be delivered with the second add-on pack. "
There was a June 2020 Update. I hear this update is causing more bugs than usual in console versions particularly. Why don't you send in a bug report?
R5: I started a new game with Germany, settled my first city and I have noticed some weird shit on the UI.
Although I am dumbfounded on where this came from (I finished a game with China yesterday and these things were not there), these changes are not that bad.

SOLVED:
rest: Somehow the game started on Standard Rules, not GS.
If you're trying to make predictions, I would definitely take a look at the Contents of the New Frontier Pass. I've made some formatting edits but here is what the page says for reference or for anyone who can't take the link:
You're welcome. And from what I can gather, yeah, you'll have access to everything. https://civilization.com/es-ES/news/entries/introducing-the-civilization-vi-new-frontier-pass-first-dlc-launches-may-21-2020/
There's the official announcement. I looked for it in English but automatically got redirected to my language, but I guess it will do the same for you.
That's so bad. I've ordered it and tried several times to check why the DLC in the game, until finally found this discussion to see it's for all Mac users. When on their official page it's says available for all platforms https://civilization.com/news/entries/introducing-the-civilization-vi-new-frontier-pass-first-dlc-launches-may-21-2020/ . Not cool, not cool
Turns out you were right (although I'm not sure if it's civilian units or military units).
"New scored competition: Sacrifice units to volcanoes. Requires Soothsayers to use their unique action on friendly units near a volcano."

It isn't a pre-order bonus, it's exclusive content for New Frontier pass owners. It doesn't matter when you buy the pass, as long as you buy it instead of buying the DLCs separately.
