Try this VPN service developed by researchers at the University of Tsukuba. It's free, it consistently works and since the servers are peer hosted by individuals who volunteer, they are much less likely to be blocked. Speeds aren't that great compared to commercial VPNs, and all servers keep logs for two weeks, so it's pretty much useless if you want a VPN for privacy and I definitely wouldn't recommend torrenting or doing anything unlawful while connected, but if all you want to do is watch Abema, then it's perfect.
Please note that AbemaTV is not VPN friendly, which means that they have restrictions against accessing their content while connected to a VPN. You can try all of the servers in Japan just to see if you are able to stream the service with some of them, but if you are unable to access the content with any server, unfortunately, it means that they have blocked the ProtonVPN IPs in Japan.
Take a look at Crunchyroll; they have a lot of Japanese drama (not sure how broad or current of a selection it is, personally) as well as anime and some other stuff.
It's a legitimate subscription service; no popups. Also, you can access it from Roku boxes and I think most other TV streaming content devices.
For NHK plus, you need to be at least already paying for TV license, so it's not possible if you are not already reside in JP. For other 民放テレビ , it's all paid service regardless whether you are in JP or not. (Correct me if I am wrong.)
OTOH, TVer works perfectly on my NordVPN (Windows + Chrome).
Yep ExpressVPN doesn’t work anymore and NordVPN also, I tried to use NetflixVPN it worked from January 2022 until April 2022, then it was blocked by Abema 🥲.
Maybe there is a discord server where people steaming Abema TV from Japan ???
If yes, please give the link 🥺🥺🥺
I wonder if it's possible for you to buy the giftcard on Amazon.
Alternatively I could ask someone to buy gift card in 7/11.
FYI, switching on a VPN seemed to completely resolve this. I already had NordVPN on my Nvidia Shield and an account, but never thought to use it until now. I didn't even need to change my region.
This evening it was pausing every 30 seconds and would pause for about 2-3 minutes. Since I switched the VPN on about half an hour ago, it hasn't paused once.
Works great! We watch some love Japanese and the DVR records 1 weeks worth - wife was happy to watch the Sapporo marathon last week. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09GL2JMB8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Damn I can't find anyway to have you upload those 44gb to me. I found this website that lets you upload 10gb at a time and send me the link afterwards, but I really wonder how fast the upload will be for this:
Otherwise, I can watch them as you upload them on that same YouTube channel. I'm assuming then that the playlist and channel were yours? I can certainly download them from there because I have a YouTube video downloader too :)
From what I've seen, the episodes cannot be streamed on demand sadly, so this works really well since you have so many episodes haha
I didn't know this until today, but this show was/is apparently still airing in Japan as of 2017. A group called ATTKC just released a fansubbed episode on Nyaa. You can download it here.
You won't be able to find any streaming sites, and if you do they'll likely be pulled not very long after.
Your best bet is to make a LiveJournal account and join communities that sub videos. Some will automatically let you see posts once you click the join button. Others you'll need to comment on a post to have then be accepted but this is easier then it sounds.
https://www.livejournal.com/blogs/en/arashi There's a list of some communities at the bottom. a_ra_shi is a good start because nearly all other communities use that as a messenger board to let people know of their updates.
ABEMA works on Apple TV with a VPN, I believe. As long as it’s a VPN that can defeat VPN detection. It works with NordVPN for me on Amazon Fire TV. I have an Apple TV too and have the Ameba app on it (you need to sign up for a Japanese App Store account to get it), but I’ve been too lazy to get my VPN router up and running again, since there’s no way to run a VPN straight on Apple TV like you can with Fire TV. So I couldn’t tell you 100% it works, but unless Apple TV has some extra detection mechanism to tell if you’re behind a VPN or not in Japan that the Fire TV doesn’t have, it should work fine in theory.
You could also use a VPN to access free streaming apps like ABEMA, TBS Free, etc. You won’t get actual live broadcast TV channels, ABEMA is internet-only channels. But this option is a lot cheaper than iSakura and ForJoyTV. You just have to find a VPN that the services can’t detect as being a VPN. NordVPN works with ABEMA from my experience.
Hey guys, just wanted to share something that worked for me with ExpressVPN.
I have an Android phone. I created a new Google play account with my VPN on in Japan. Go into the Google play app and tap on the 3 lines (hamburger) on top left > Account > Country and Profiles. It should say "Switch to Japan..." I connected my payment method to paypal. I was stuck on a loading screen but I just restarted the app and saw Japanese apps!
Then I downloaded GYAO and TVer. I was able to play the videos and I started the Smart View from my phone to screencast to my Samsung TV. This was all completely free. No english subtitles though just FYI.
ExpressVPN used to work but now doesn't, so it isn't because you're doing something wrong. There are paid subscription services out there - but I think they're around £30-35 a month, though.
One might be called Sakura TV, but I'm not entirely sure on that.
I thought ExpressVPN created an IP in Japan too...? But maybe I'm wrong or misunderstanding. I got a one year subscription with express so I was hoping to use that but I'll definitely check Netflixvpn out and cancel express! Such a bummer cuz express is always at the top when I google best vpn services to watch Japanese shows :/
These have Japan servers but have been banned by ABEMA: ExpressVPN NordVPN SurfShark UltraVPN
Private VPN Proton VPN ZenMate VPN Also the recently added, HideMyAss VPN and CyberGhost VPN.
I just bought the service yesterday. It works but just now at 8/8/2019 at 17:08hrs.. It does not work anymore. Wasted my $4.00!!! Good thing I only got the one month and not 6 months or 1 year. I know sometimes NordVPN also works for some strange reason for like a few hours then it stops..sucks!
Shogi, Mahjong, Fishing and News (reduced version) are available without a VPN in America, Britain, Australia, Thailand, Canada, and Brazil.
Otherwise, tough luck. It used to work, but doesn’t anymore with ExpressVPN except on that iPhone I used in Japan that somehow has the app stuck thinking I’m in Japan and works with ExpressVPN.
