I would strongly recommend the short book The Inner Game of Tennis: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003T0G9E4/
I once created a reading group of this book, it is that good, especially with the kinds of frustrations you are feeling.
Amazon has Fairtex for $62.20 with prime shipping at the moment while the Top King comes up to 85 with shipping from Thailand
Yes, I am in the US.
I’ve used a number of Thai pads and these are the best I’ve used. Lightweight but tough enough to stand up to holding kicks for one of my guys who’s a 210lb fighter
You can get the Apple version here. Preorder the 300 page, 100 chapter coming book at 50% off here at $23.99, which seems like a very good price.
none of the solutions is ideal. But what has worked for me is to use regular masks with silicon cages underneath.
I use the venum challenger- these hold up very well and I really like the dual density rubber that they use. These also fit amazing when you follow the instructions.
When I started training at the beginning of the year, I ran into that a lot, but it's subsided....for the most part.
I got a foot roller that I would use every night when I got home. I'd just sit down while I was watching TV or whatever and just roll my foot. It felt odd, but it really helped relax my foot after a few minutes on each foot. I got mine for something like $8 at Target, but you can get something like this from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Relaxation-Downloadable-Reflexology-Natural-Chemistree/dp/B01C4UUSLE/ref=sr_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1501698447&sr=8-8&keywords=foot+roller
I bought these shorts at random on Amazon and they've lasted for two years so far. I don't see any sign of them falling apart yet. https://www.amazon.com/Anthem-Athletics-INFINITY-Muay-Shorts/dp/B01LDM0AAS/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1529179668&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Anthem+Athletics&dpPl=1&dpID=41DE9McyY5L&ref=plSrch
Thanks u/DrewsOnFirst, that's exactly the kind of feedback we are looking for. We can change this quite easily, but will probably hold off a bit to get some more feedback. The longer break between the combo sets is intentional as we feel it is helpful to have a longer break to mentally prepare for a new combo.
Did you see the Intensity setting where the "pacing" can be adjusted? The app loads in Medium Intensity mode but there are slower and faster options as well. See screenshot at link https://snipboard.io/Yy8Qdu.jpg
you can always try this faceguard, but realistically your vision is go a be so blocked that you're just gona keep getting hit over and over again
if you have a condition that doesn't let you get hit in the face, you should just not spar at all. too many accidents can happen

You helped SO much! Thank you!
Namman Muay Thai Boxing Liniment 120ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001ON8ZN6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_EVH8XGN3F5WFWWJZZM0P?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Is this the real stuff? Should I use it after my warmup and then after training?
I have the same tiles. First I bought a rug pad from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GV9XW42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_Z9AZAFGSP8PTSAG07S0Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I placed some heavy duty 2 inches wide double sided tape on the floor ( but swept and mopped the area really good before doing so) in pieces through out the area. Then I made sure the rug pad is completely flat to the floor on top of the double sided tape. Then I taped the edges of the rug pad all around with 2 inch wide gorilla tape. Placed the Tiles on top and taped all around the edges and where the tiles connect. I've had the set up a little bit over a year. No accidents so far. Downside is that if you have to move it. It's gonna ba pain in the ass.
Whatever pair you get, I recommend a boot dryer. Right after training I throw mine on one and after years of use they still are in great shape and don't smell. The one I have is like this one: boot dryer
I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Outslayer-Muay-Punching-150lbs-Unfilled/dp/B08D638YMN
It’s 3x the price but it will last a long ass time even in a gym. It had the added benefit of being rough in your shins compared to other brands so it will condition your shins and such more.
You can get some good shorts from a few places online. I like MMAWarehouse or even Amazon, I've never had an issue with anything I've ordered from there.
For brands, I prefer Fairtex and Hayabusa because they are good quality and seem to hold up real well. I don't know much about the cheap ones because I have never owned a pair. My opinion with gear is to get the better quality stuff because cheap things have to be bought twice.
I meant Amazon, not eBay.
Here it is.
I use non adhesive bandaging for the taping, if that is not enough then maybe stralp aroind that with zinc oxide tape (the same we use to wrap hands) its really easy to use. Then for good measure and to cover any strapping you can add anklets to match your shorts and look sexy too!
It's very common, a lot of athletes have it, you're fine. If you stretch and go super deep on the hip, and you do it everyday for months, you'll see significant improvement. Mine used to pop and crunch everytime I kneed, kicked, stretched, etc. Someone just asked about this like a week ago.
It's called hip snapping syndrome: https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/snapping-hip-syndrome-causes-symptoms-treatments
I would say more people have this than don't. It's called snapping hip syndrome, btw: https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/snapping-hip-syndrome-causes-symptoms-treatments
Hit rate at my gym is like 80%, lol. I've only asked about 6 people but you get the idea. I have it too. Stretching has made mine significantly better but I stretch my hips 10-15 min 4+ times a week and I go really deep, to the point of pain sometimes.
Here is the solution. You can still use your current masks, but without feeling like your in Guantanamo bay.
https://www.amazon.com/Breathe-TOOVREN-Bracket-Comfortable-Wearing/dp/B08DY9W31H
those are better, a friend of mine has them. I have these, comparable but maybe a bit thicker & a fastening system I prefer over the sock build

We bought ours on Amazon US, here is the bag we have on Amazon UK I can’t vouch for it though since we bought it through a different supplier and the US one had thousands of reviews so I was pretty confident in buying it.
Honestly this might sound weird but use this link, these work just as well BALEAF Men's 3 Inches Running Shorts Quick Dry Gym Athletic Shorts https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FJPWBGG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ZZ5BMQSM9NNDX88R3B2V?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This is my gun of choice:
I’m going to assume you know to kick with your shin. If your foot is whiplashing around the bag, perhaps that can be a cause. But if it’s in your arch, then maybe it’s something else. Can you stand on it? Does it feel like the plantar fascia?
I use ankle supports and they help in numerous ways. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KR9CPY8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_M63J0Y85AMATK6RWDHXZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Work on stretching and flexibility. There are ankle exercises you can do. I wear MT ankle supports since I’ve injured my ankles multiple times in life (sprains with torn ligaments). They are cheap and so worth it.

Bare in mind that a lot of thais are embracing modern strength and conditioning routines now over running 10k a day and thais tend to retire very young for a reason.
I try and run three times a week, if youve got a gym near you use it, a lot of thais train like that because they dont have a gym full of cardio equipment or stuff for HIIT etc.
Im not a pro fighter by any means but I know more than a few professional MMA fighters and none of them are running 10k 5 times a week because they like their knees to function as intended past 30 and they have modern facilities to take advantage of.
Can recommend this book if youre looking for a good guide - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Training-Warriors-Ultimate-Martial-Workout/dp/0061374334
It's maximum protection, but I got this Fairtex headgear for Yodkhupon in our sparring and he says he loves it: https://www.amazon.com/Fairtex-Headguard-HeadGear-Protective-X-Large/dp/B071FNXWHD/
It might be hot and uncomfortable, but it gives a lot of security.

"A Fighters' Heart" and "The Fighter's Mind" by Sam Sheridan.
I enjoyed both so much. The first is a kind of travel diary where the author gives testimonials about his martial arts adventures. His encounters with outstanding fighters and coaches from different combat sports. Of course, also talk about his experience fighting Muay Thai in Thailand.
The second is a little bit more elaborated and focused on interviews with different people. Also, it uses a broader approach to include additional topics such as martial arts movies. It's also a very nice read, indeed.
Get you some "healthy feet" cream and a foot scraper. Problem solved very quickly

Try the Sanabul brand from Amazon. They're ~$25 and provide a lot of cushion. I needed something that would protect my hands and they have been excellent. They have excellent reviews too. I think these will hold up until you decided to take this seriously. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D2J41SC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Personally I use the "stretch out strap" I got from amazon. 15 bucks, does the job. It doesn't expand at all like an elastic band. There's loops every few inches to help really get the angle you need. https://www.amazon.com/Original-Stretch-Strap-Exercise-OPTP/dp/B00065X222/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1521411824&sr=8-3&keywords=stretch+out+strap
Hey there, so I've used both the bulkier and cloth padding shin guards and for a more "in-between" pair, I really like these ones: Meister MMA Shin Guards
I'm including the Canadian link, but I'm sure they're much cheaper in the U.S. I find they give good protection along the front of your shins, but don't feature much protection along the sides. However, because of this, they are quite slim and don't move around as much as the bulkier shin guards.
One downside is that the little orange rubber traction pads on the bottom of the foot do come off on the mats, so I would scrape them off before use...

This fits my groin guard, boxing gloves, mouth guard, rope, wraps, with room to spare.
I use these, Anker Soundcore Life A1
They stay in firmly. I do heavy bag work, skipping, running. Sometimes if I’m real sweaty they might slip a bit and I have to readjust. But I’m pretty damn happy with them for the price.
They also come with loads of different wing and bud sizes.
Injury prevention:
As for gaining weight to prevent injuries, looking at this calculator you're about 4kg off what's considered a healthy weight for your height. But to prevent injuries I think bullet points > gaining weight.
If I was you I would just do full body workouts, and start by eating 1 extra meal a day and go from there. When you put on some weight and eventually plateau in weight gain, add another meal.
Gymnastic rings are great if you don't have access to a gym all the time. I had them for lockdown and threw them over a tree branch

There was a damn 16 year old that beat Saenchai near his prime... and taking out legends when he was just 15. The two co-fighter of the year awards that year were both ~16
I got a pair of Venum Elites over 2 years ago, and they're still going strong. I love them, little to no side slippage during sparring/partner drills. Don't know what your budget is, but these seem to be in the intermediate price range.
MT-Adjacent gear: These 2-pound (per hand; 4 lb total) "Egg Weights" for shadow boxing.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G3R6NNF
(side note: After doing a lot of research on these, 2lb/1kg each are the highest weight you should be using for shadow boxing. Anything heavier and you're basically "just lifting weights", potentially can fuck up your shoulders just like you would violently swinging around heavy weights)
These kept showing up in various directed advertisements so I dismissed them as fake/silly/snake-oil.
However, on a related hunt I saw a number of video reviews where trainers/boxers/MTers purchased them with their own money (in other words, not given for free/swag in exchange for a fake positive review) and the feedback was highly positive. So I took a shot and imported a pair.
I've been using them for a month now. I love them. The weight is just such that it feels a little different than normal shadow-boxing; my forearm muscles have noticably gotten a bit bigger; I feel the muscle engagement up through my arms and shoulders; and for me, it simply makes shadow boxing a little more intense and fun. They won't make you swole, but it's like every punch with egg weights feels like you did 5-10 regular punches.
Anyway, I took a shot on them (it was a bit pricey to import to Japan but whatever) and it paid off. I love these goofy things and use them almost daily.
Curtis Stout. some of his fights are on youtube. He had a strange odyssey. He was too good to find opponents on local or regional shows but had problems fighting the top tier for two reasons. One is he had a full time job and the other is we had limited resources, locked away in Kansas City where the level was very low. So, we developed alot of strategies and ways of training to bring out his best qualities in a fight. I wrote a book about how we trained, for gyms that have little to no resources and how to maximize their 'garage' gyms into the best they could be. It is a method. Gleaned from my experiences watching and training with the best. in it I also give a semi biographical note on what it was like to be part of the first generation of MMA and Muay Thai competitors. We put in alot of air and ground miles looking for fights.

I picked up one of these boot dryers right after starting classes about 4.5 months ago, I throw my gloves on it for 20 minutes right when I get home, and it does an excellent job of drying them out quickly. It also has an ozone generating function which I run once every week or two.

Thai oil is like tiger balm. What I usually do if I feel any pain or soreness is rub the thai oil where I feel the pain, ice cubes in a bag, I rub the ice over area where the thai oil was applied, after rubbing ice on it for about 10 min, get in the shower and let hot water run over it. it will sting quite a bit 😅 and just keep alternating between ice and hot water. End it off with the hot water. Your skin will be a little red but the pain and inflammation is usually reduced.
I was just worried that my toes dont stick out enough. On all the pictures on Amazon it looked like all the toes were barely covered.Hayabusa T3
I suffered from sciatica for several years, and tried so many things to relieve it. I feel for you. Genuinely can get horrific. I'm going to suggest something that I absolutely rejected until I had reached a dead-end and given up hope. My mom of all people sent me this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-Pain-Mind-Body-Connection-ebook/dp/B000FA5SGG/
It basically argues that much of the back pain epidemic is stress related and largely psychosomatic. It's real, but it isn't what we experience. At the very least it made me much more aware of how much stress in my life was closely connected to my sciatica. Literally certain situations, even certain people walking into the room would really floor the pain. I was like "Whatever" and put in on a shelf for a year, until I finally read it. It was the only thing that actually lessened the sciatica. It didn't cure it, but it took it down several notches. So? Maybe think to yourself whether certain life-stress situations have developed around the time of your sciatica. I was deeply unhappy at the time, and didn't really realize it. Of course physical injury can cause sciatica, but the author argues that in the majority of cases the main backpain trick is convincing you that you have a physical injury that more or less can't be cured.
I ended up having a serious traumatic event and the sciatica cleared up immediately after and never came back.
This is Strike Clock.
Not nearly as much functionality as your app, but a really minimalistic, elegant design.
What I meant was that you could use notification sounds and songs from your own phone as sounds inside the app. Having Muay Thai music is really cool, but I imagine most people wouldn't want to listen to it for each and every session of their regular interval training sessions.
The only supplements I took during my last fight camp were Saltstick electrolyte pills before training during the summertime
Get some glove dogs and put them in your gloves when they're not in use - once the gloves are dry after a training session pop the glove dogs in.
After you get home from training, use an antibacterial spray (preferably one made for athletic gear) on your gloves -inside and outside - and your shinguards. Then wipe them both down with a dry washcloth or paper towel. Next, leave your gloves (try to get them as opened up as possible) and shinguards in a well ventilated spot, though not in direct sunlight! Direct sunlight will damage the leather. I even have a small fan that I put in front of my gear to help it dry.
My hands sweat like crazy - like, they sweat even when I'm not doing anything - and I've never had an issue with gross smelling gloves because it's easy to do preventative maintenance.
When someone has gloves that smell awful it's because they don't do anything to take care of their gear.
May not help with learning the art, but useful for understanding a lot of what goes on around the sport.
You're there to learn Muay Thai, so learn Muay Thai. I know my Thai trainer finds it disrespectful and offensive when someone from a different style comes to our gym and refuses to adapt and learn.
If money's an issue, just get some $7 running shorts:

Also get one of these and keep it in the bottom of your bag under your gloves and shinguards.
Bag and equipment won’t stink. Also spray down your shinguards inside and out. All surfaces. Keep bag open over night and let everything air out but those deodorizing sets for the gloves and the large one for the bag are game changers.

Get this. Works amazingly. Spray your gloves, inside and out with a proper glove and equipment spray immediately after practice and then put these in. Your gym probably has some spray mixed in bottles to use on their equipment and it is probably around for all to use. This will make your gloves smell great.
I bought this and it has a very low heat setting. Dries both gloves in about 3 minutes...

I really like "The Anatomy of Stretching: Your Illustrated Guide to Flexibility and Injury Rehabilitation" by Brad Walker.
The book itself don't go super deep on the details of how stretching works, but it has a huge selection of stretching movements and positions and very helpful tables and guides on the end that helps you selecting what exercise to do depending on injuries or what sport you practice.

I use a little battery powered callous remover and foot cream. You can also use a regular pumice stone that you can find at any pharmacy along with the foot cream.
The problem mainly is in your calf muscle. Calf and foot strengthening exercises and these.

Forget about tiger balm or any other topical
I bought these these a couple weeks ago look and feel great, i'm 6'0 and 250lb so i'm sure if they fit me with good movement you can get a pair to fit you!

I've been reading a book lately called "Fear is the Mind Killer" that is all about how to teach martial arts to people who would normally feel excluded from learning how to fight, such as marginalized communities or those with PTSD, and how to push them and encourage them to train hard while also respecting their boundaries. Like, how to get someone who with a history of physical trauma that makes them terrified of conflict, and get them ready for an actual competition.
It's been a fantastic read so far and I can not recommend it highly enough. I think it should be required reading for anyone looking to become a coach or an instructor.
Thanks so much! Actually, what a coincidence I just started a Patreon Account yesterday. Things have gotten difficult, and any boost is seriously appreciate.
If you do come down to Pattaya, swing by my gym Petchrungruang. It's pretty cheap to train at, and Pi Nu is probably the best padholder I've ever experienced.

So I used to have a crippling addiction to buying gloves until I finally shelled out money for Winnings and never looked back lol. Probably owned over 20 pairs before trying and selling the ones I didn't like.
If you can wait, and willing to look around on ebay, try to find an all leather glove for around 50 which is damn near impossible these days at retail. Back in the day KOfightgear had a no frills leather glove for 50 but it wss no longer feasible. I've had the most success scroring Top Ten gloves for cheap on ebay. Just to do some legwork for you I saw this posting. If you can get these gloves at 50-70, absolutely pull the trigger.
If you can't wait a really unknown brand is Mughals, which are basically the well reviewed ring to to cage gear line but in synthetic leather
Ring to Cage Molded-Foam and Gel-Lined Training Boxing Gloves https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XBLH3WX/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_0H1G5B62ZRFSYHQT8C6E
My personal recommendation is spend anywhere between 50 to low 100s for a leather glove, they're typically better made and will last way longer.
For shin guards, the Fairtex Sp3s are the tried and trues. Sylvie showed a picture of her Sp3s after countless rounds in Thailand and the outer shell is completely gone but it still functions well.
I know you asked for the bottom economy tier products, but I hope I've sold you on spending 20-30 dollars more to cross that leather value threshold of a much better product lol.
I use those grip socks. They’ll similar to this, work great for me.

A gift you you and him lol. They last about 6 months
Does this happen only when you fight, or do you notice the pain through out the day? If so, you may have tendond damage and I would highly reccomend seeing a doctor and taking some time off (or just don't spar and dont use the arm that is injured). Seriously, I've seen guys go out for 8 months because they ignored an injury that would have healed in under 2 weeks. Don't be that guy, see a doctor.
Those elbow pads are protection against physical blows, rather than hyper extension. I would recommend (again) seeing a doctor, or even a pharmacict about an elbow or arm brace (i.e something like this), talk to them and they can suggest the support device right for you.
Also, talk to your trainer or khru, if there's an injury, they've probably had it or at least seen it, and can probably make some reccomendations.
I'll check it out then, maybe hang but i'd have to hang pretty hard and fly around on that chain since im only 108lbs or something.
Where could i get bags from?
I saw a bag (everlast) at walmart 100lb with handwraps and punch pads and A bar for very cheap Heres the link :

Or do i have to go to a specialty store.
Do i have to carry all this stuff out of the store as-well? Hahha
Usually I would recommend https://www.justwatch.com/us to find out if and where something is streaming. Unfortunately this movie is so new that it isn't on there. Still a super helpful site. Although it recently said a Woody Allen film was on Hulu, but it wasn't. That was a bummer.
The top two were on my list, we actually did an entire podcast on the headgear if you're interested - https://www.buzzsprout.com/128392/1205579-ep-63-q-a-polaris-10-recap-and-is-head-gear-in-combat-sports-beneficial
I think there are pull-on ankle/foot compression type thingies that would help with this.
Searching online, this is just an example, the first result I found: https://www.rakuten.com/shop/b2fitness/product/8sru8v1ux

I.e., a compression sleeve type thing for ankle/foot, that covers the ball of the foot (many don't, but some do).

Let me know if I should be adding any ;)
it takes a while , but you need to stretch and strengthen your calves. But what helped the most for me was calve raises and this device.
You also have to keep up the maintenance or the pain will come back.
oh, that PDF is really good. I'll be reading that tonight. I'm quite in favor of thinking about things in terms of craft. Richard Sennett wrote a very good book about the principles of craft, that are being lost, that I really enjoyed some time ago: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001C359DM/
Disinfectant spray on the inside, disinfectant wipes on the outside. I also put a glove deodorizer in them
Amazon has puzzle mat packs for pretty cheap. If you go to the used option you can get them for a lot less. We used these to pad our boxing ring under the canvas. They looked completely unused.
first thing when you wake up: stretch those legs & hips. stretch you calves, quads, hamstrings, groin, & hip flexors. for me, hamstrings/groin and hip mobility is my biggest hurdle I'm currently tackling.
like you, I'm only a few months in, when i started i could barely kick at thigh height. thanks to stretching every day, i can kick at kidney/liver height. I'm hopeful that after a year or so, i'll be able to do head kicks.
like others have suggested, using a bag will help, even if it's a cheap inflatable like this.
also, what really helped me was slowing down. concentrate on the mechanics and the technique of the punch/kick. repeat in your head the tips that your trainer gave you during group class (rotate your hips for power, etc).
it will take time. you won't be an all-star overnight. remember, the fighters you see in TV have atleast 10 years of training.
Elite Sports makes surprisingly great gloves for dirt cheap. Love their shorts, can't speak to their shin guards.

Hey I really think it's good you're looking at committing to being in Thailand fulltime if this is what you want to do for a living.
I really recommend this book, Matt knows his stuff in regards to a lot of what you'll need advice on.
I feel like I could have written this comment myself. Yesterday I had the “really good” guy as my partner and halfway through I straight up couldn’t breathe anymore my mask was so saturated. I have to switch 2 (honestly maybe even 3 masks) out dying my 60 min classes.
Right now I’ve landed on these myself—

They’re lighter than the heavy cloth ones I had before but I sweat so much they still become unbreathable after long enough and need to be swapped out.
Masks fucking suck. I would rather show proof of vaccination and sign a waiver or something, personally.
I hope Cali switches to the NYC rules, I visited my favorite gym there (Sitan) a few weekends ago and it was much more enjoyable.
I don't know what type of shin guards you are wearing now and I hope they are not the cloth ones. Here are what I found on Amazon.ca

Sounds like you were doing hard sparring. I know this is obvious, but avoid hitting with your foot. I did that a couple of weeks ago and there was a lump as big as an egg on the top of my right foot. Sometimes when things are happening so fast we just can't help it. Hope you find the shin guards that works.
Had mine for years. Comfortable, solid, and very protective. Haven't been teeped or knee'd in the balls and felt pain since.
Two things that drastically improved my hand wrap experience incase it helps anyone else.
1– laundry bag
2– a good wall mounted roller

To stop the tangling, put them in these laundry bags. they sell stands for bags
i got a real basic Everlast 100 pound bag on amazon a few years back for about $100 delivered. no tears yet and I use it regularly
I hung mine of my (concrete) patio ceiling FWIW
If you want an alternative recommendation, I've found the Elite Sports MT gloves to be an amazing cheap glove (better than many gloves 2-3x its cost: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KKKM9KN/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_XQVAZXDAYSZPS13YCSYF
Apple Watch all the way, I start the Kickboxing activity in the fitness app before class.
This $10 Amazon band hides it under my t-shirt sleeve kinda by my armpit. Works great and it’s totally out of the way, nobody knows it’s there (which is ideal for using a fitness tracker in MT).
You really don't.
If you want something similar find some inexpensive pair of short running shorts on Amazon like:
The Muay Thai shorts are just unnecessarily expensive while those running shorts are more comfortable.
Not sure how long your hair is, I bought something like this. Works well to keep my hair out of my eyes
