I"d "love" to see the run support per game for each pitcher individually and combined. I'm guessing around 2.5 RS/G.
Edit: Of course Harvey had the second worst run support in the majors (min. 80 IP), as is tradition. Can Harvey just consume Drew Hutchison's soul and be blessed with good run support without shitty pitching side effects?
This past offseason I read Lords of the Realm and The Game and I'll be damned if those two books didn't give me a new-found appreciation for the backwards thinking done by much of baseball ownership.
I recommend staying away from talk radio idiots and following the team through the print media; I particularly like James Wagner of the New York Times in his baseball coverage. I also recommend learning about the sport through books and podcasts. Watching Mets games on SNY would also be a good way to follow the team on a daily basis.
Watching Baseball Smarter by Zack Hample is a book that gives you a basic rundown on the sport as it is played.
Faith and Fear in Flushing is a book by Greg Prince, a big Mets fan, who recounts the biggest moments Mets history from the early days to 2008 or so.
You mentioned English football. Jeff Paternostro is a Mets fan and English football and wrestling fan who has a podcast, For All You Kids Out There, which covers baseball from an analytical and scouting perspective.
One of my annual baseball traditions is picking up a copy of the Baseball Prospectus annual every February. Inside is an essay for every team and a short paragraph about every single player in the league.
You guy might already know this but Josh Lewin of the radio team does a daily Mets podcast. ~15min and he seems to replay some radio highlights and interviews after the game. Pretty great and more Josh is always awesome https://www.iheart.com/podcast/the-daily-mets-podcast-29118884/
As it regards history, you can't go wrong with trying to learn more about the 86 club. Jeff Pearlman's The Bad Guys Won is a great book to start.
Lugo has started precisely 5 MLB games and has less than 50 IP total under his belt. He’s also been outpitching a lot of his peripherals – ESPN did an article on this and while it’s not everything, you generally want to avoid buying into a guy whose ERA is 1.5 runs less than his FIP over a small sample size of a little more than 30 IP as a starter.
I think he’s got some real potential and we all know too well just how important SP depth is, but it’s far too early to just hand him a rotation spot. If he’s healthy enough to pitch Harvey is part of the rotation going in to next year and he would really have to get blown up in ST to lose that spot before the season starts. Wheeler is definitely a huge unknown but if his arm is healthy enough to pitch he will get every chance to be a starter ahead of Lugo. However that’s not to say Lugo won’t get his chances to pitch – I don’t see any way all 5 of the young guys pitch a full season and it’s not even a given that Bart gets brought back
Here's where Adam Rubin explained the rules last season.
http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/109921/full-primer-on-playoff-roster-eligibility
I'm looking at this section:
> (A) have been on a Major League Active, Disabled, Bereavement / Family Medical Emergency, Paternity, Suspended or Military List of such Major League Club as of Midnight Eastern Time on August 31, or on such date be under control, but on optional assignment, or on assignment from another Major League organization and not yet reported; and
If I'm understanding the language correctly, "or on such date be under control, but on optional assignment..." means anyone on the 40 man roster. All I know for sure is that Rubin has repeatedly stated on Twitter this year that anyone in the organization before Sept. 1 is eligible. Could definitely be wrong, though.
Apparently Nimmo had just landed in Vegas when he got the call he was coming back up. Turned around, got a red-eye flight and landed at Newark at 6am. Physically he probably couldn't have played tonight. That's intense. Here is is talking about it: http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0552942578052373517-4
Edit: Link to Rubin Tweet https://twitter.com/AdamRubinESPN/status/761290370156113921
Probably not the answer you are looking for, but is really pretty good. You get access to every archived game (including the national broadcasts), and can listen to the radio or TV broadcast during the games. If you are in market you will need a VPN, but they are pretty cheap. If you don't want to use a VPN, you can still watch the archives, even in market. Frequently I will listen to the radio call of a game as I fall asleep.
I use NordVPN, and they have a really easy app for phones/tablets too, so you can even watch on the MLB app on there. It's really worth it if you plan on watching time shifted games, or just want to tune into no-hitters or a good pitching matchup on the West Coast after the Mets game is over.
You can do it using JQuery I believe.
var replaced = $("body").html().replace('Tulo','<b>Flores</b>'); $("body").html(replaced);
It's kind of late and it's not free, but for everyone who wants to see SNY but can't, here's what I did, as someone living in Florida:
It's a hoop you jump through once, and then it operates seamlessly in the background. There are occasional hiccups, but it's pretty painless.
I use Unblock-Us to watch the Rangers on NHL Gamecenter. I live in Queens.
/u/pdisco23 - thanks for sharing. There were a few factual errors and problems with grammar but it's good that you're putting your work out there. Good luck in the future! Also, get yourself a copy of "The Elements of Style" and memorize it.
I was all worried about the game not being played today, but here's a link to the hourly weather forecast for Nationals Park....looks like we'll be good.
Posted this last night but didn't get any response- might as well try again today.
So at work I've got to choose an avatar for my Wrike profile per company policy. However we're allowed to choose ones that are not our actual face and encouraged to have a little fun with it.
Any funny Mets shops that you guys have at your finger tips that I can use for my corporate presence?
Supposed to rain for 40 minute or so.
https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/washington/20006/minute-weather-forecast/327659
There's a list year by year up until 2016 of the channels they were on and the announcers.
I recommend buying a copy of the Baseball Prospectus 2021 annual. The Mets chapter has an essay on the team and a paragraph on each player. It's a few months old now but the info is still mostly relevant. I also recommend Faith and Fear in Flushing (both the blog and book) by Greg Prince and Jason Fry. Greg Prince is a Mets fan who also likes the old NY baseball Giants and there are still old timers who were baseball Giants fans back in the day who still show up to Mets games to root for the Giants.
If you listen over the radio, the Mets broadcast on WCBS 880AM in English as well as in Spanish on 92.7 FM. Howie is great, Wayne is okay. I listen to the Mets over the radio as it frees up my hands to browse Baseball Reference and Fangraphs.
I tried with the At Bat app, but the significant lag was maddening. I went to PC Richards and picked up a portable Sony AM/FM tuner for $20, specifically to bring to solo Citi Field outings.
Edit: This one
It's also available at Amazon for 2 dollars cheaper, but I'd rather try to give some of my money to a local company. Plus, I was buying it the day of a game, and wanted it right then and there, rather than waiting for it to ship.
You can find other options as well, if you just search for portable radio, but I figured the Sony would have a better chance of holding up and performing, over the long term, than some no-name version that I saved $5 on
I just got it on Amazon. Well worth the investment. It goes great in Manhattans and Old Fashioneds too.
Last year, whenever the Mets were playing the Braves and it was on TV, I had to VPN into in order to hear Gary, Keith, and Ron. One thing that I learned is that the location verification only takes place at connection. Once I got past the blackout, I could kill the VPN and oddly, it would keep playing. Not sure why that would work on a technical level, but it did.
The reason I killed the VPN, by the way, was because of bandwidth issues. Running everything through a VPN made the video choppy at times (not always, just sometimes).
Edit: If it's not obvious, I live in the southeast outside of Florida, and so its considered Braves territory.
Edit 2: I use ProXPN and I have a pro account. I think it's like $60 a year or something like that. It also comes in useful for things like public wifi hotspots.
Hi, I hope you read this.
I'm in NJ, I cut cable 7 years ago. I use with Unlocator. Has never given me an issue in 4 years. I also use "that site" which I have sworn by and will always give props to.
and Unlocator is the truth tho
Not sure we'll ever know 100%. This article lists a number of causes, traumatic injury being one of them.
Season record against each other (Mets have the tiebreaker over the Giants, Mets and Cards tied) then intradivisional record (which Cardinals have over the Mets). This article explains the tiebreakers well
Let put this to rest, they will not make a killing off Jerseys. Jerseys and T-shirt sales are split among all 30 teams. Only in person sales at the ballpark are kept by their own club (and who actually buys shit there). Also according to the article mets won't sell Tebow gear at Citi
Source: http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/124289/dont-look-for-tim-tebow-jersey-at-citi-field
Yes, you can.
Edit: If you do so, you "forfeit" the DH spot for the rest of the game, and like /u/nietzche_niche said, a pitcher takes over. Even if that pitcher is swapped for a PH, they cannot be assigned as the new DH. Pinch hitting for a DH will allow the PH to become a DH, but a double switch will cause a team to forfeit the DH role.
So at work I've got to choose an avatar for my Wrike profile per company policy. However we're allowed to choose ones that are not our actual face and encouraged to have a little fun with it.
Any funny Mets shops that you guys have at your finger tips that I can use for my corporate presence?
I would recommend a VPN Service like NordVPN. Their one month subscription is only $5 which isn't bad to guarantee you get to watch seven Mets games.
You can just set your location to Atlanta which is the largest VPN hub on the east coast outside of the blackout range and watch without issue.
There are free services but they often have very slow speeds which makes streaming HD sports difficult.
There are quite a few Mets-related podcasts out there from SNY podcasts to fan-created ones. There are the SNY podcasts, podcasts by Baseball Prospectus, Barstool Sports, Amazin' Avenue (the Mets SB Nation blog) and numerous others.
I like to read so I recommend getting a copy of Baseball Prospectus 2020 which has a short essay on every MLB team and a short blurb on the players on the MLB roster with pre-season projections and predictions. Jacob deGrom is on the cover of the 2020 edition, a new edition comes out before spring training every year.
I'm not familiar with NordVPN but I pay for a different VPN service that I have to play with location wise for the Mets game to work. If possible and/or you haven't already, try to use different location.
Do you have a friend or family member who can provide their NYC cable provider login?
My parents live in NYC, I'm in western Canada. I use a VPN (Private Internet Access) to connect to an NYC server, then use the FitzyTV app on my FireTV stick 4K to log in to Spectrum with my parents' login. Gets me 100 NYC channels including SNY, MSG, etc. I know lots of people may not have a family member back in NYC, but if you do, this has proven to be an excellent solution (at least for me).
I use Zenmate. You can get it for free although the speed isnt great. It's not that expensive to pay for. Basically you just install the chrome extension or the app from w/e app store you use and pick a country you want to pretend to be from the go about your business as normal.
If you have an android phone I use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ballcapsoftware.magicnumberwidget
With that you can put a widget on your homescreen that shows the current magic #. I also have another widget that shows how many games up we are.
A browser extension that makes using Reddit supremely more enjoyable. It basically has a bunch of features that should already be built in.
For example, this is how I can view this post: https://i.imgur.com/eYXicPm.png
You can view pictures and videos in comments and posts without having to leave reddit, too, among a bunch of other stuff. I don't even use most of the features.
The truth lies somewhere in the middle of these comments. On paper the Mets are a middling franchise but they've had a disproportionate amount of insane things occur organizationally
Amusing book worth your time. The Wilpon ownership really fucked us and in many ways, for good reason. But at the same time people are over the top with it. Throw in a league high payroll and it's a wrap.
Radar is starting to fill back in to the west. . . with some bright colors. Not good if you want to watch the Metropolitans play tonight.

The guy that wrote the article is pretty legit with his sources, even wrote a book about the development behind 10 highly successful games with the help of the studios that made them
Maybe, maybe not. I just tried it again to make sure it’s a proven method and now it doesn’t work. I got a really good price on a 2 year plan of NordVPN thanks to somebody’s YouTube sponsorship, so I’m not bothered, but this is the only reason I bought it and it doesn’t even work lol
In Raleigh area, I use on PC with NordVPN connected through an Atlanta proxy . Chrome browser with location turned off.
Occasionally I get a hiccup when logging into while connected to the vpn. Disconnect vpn, login, reconnect vpn, refresh browser works for me.
I live in NYC and use + ExpressVPN to watch games. ExpressVPN isn't free, but it was super easy to set up and has been quite reliable. I just set my location to the UK and I can watch any games I want from wherever I happen to be.
In addition to what others are saying about the bags/food, there's also a vegan food stand in the plaza-ish area behind the right field foul pole. The last game I went to (Keith number retirement), I was in line like 3 hours early and the family in front of me, a group of 5, were using bags like this. Each adult had one and they basically had a huge assortment of deli foods and sandwiches/snakes. I was very jealous.
For Saturday and Sunday games, try seeing if you can sign up for a free trial of NordVPN to get around the blackout issue.
I have a subscription with them and use them regularly since I live in the Nationals TV region.
Roku had a few connection hiccups earlier this season, but has been solid since.
At the end of an inning, 2 minute skip ahead (that is, 2 right arrows) bypasses the commercials very nicely.
I use the PC web version on Chrome (location turned off) + NordVPN for blackouts in my market. Out of fullscreen, the inning boxes can be kind of hit or miss. 12 of the 10 sec skip aheads will usually work, but occasionally run into buffering issues that way (probably because of the VPN)
Since we're all talking headphones, I recommend Philips Fidelios for an inexpensive, professional, over-ear pair. You'll look like you're in a helicopter, but the bass is legit and they're comfy.
At home, I actually have Norton Antivirus which comes with a VPN. sometimes I have to turn it off and on a few times to trick MLB TV, but it works perfectly fine. I let Norton just auto-pick the location for me and haven’t had any issues. I also hear great things about NordVPN if you don’t want to buy a whole antivirus suite and you’re just in the market for a good VPN. At work, I have no idea what VPN the feds use. It’s always on, I have no access to any of the controls, but whatever it is it works damn good.
This is what I had to resort to until I realized my big brother still has his ExpressVPN. That, coupled with free MLBTV from T-Mobile every season and I’m back to enjoying Mets baseball like SNY announcing their app and crashing their website stream never happened. LFGM!
Ok so I was thinking the same idea cause a double is like $28.
Here are my two ideas
Take a doob tube, commonly used for joints but they are an airtight seal. If you put liquid into the tube it won't leak out and is plastic. My thought is to put it in a jacket pocket or take a glove to the game and put it in one of the fingers of the glove
2nd Idea on Amazon you can buy fake binoculars that are flasks, each side is a 8 ounces https://www.amazon.com/Binocktails-Redesigned-Binocular-Flask-Holds/dp/B07NKZKSDC/ref=sr\_1\_2?crid=2KMEPBBCYJ78Z&keywords=bino+flask&qid=1650393874&sprefix=bino+flask%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-2
I've mentioned a VPN before for people that have to use like myself.
The company I used in 2015, Unlocator, has a 50% off sale if anyone is interested.
Month-to-month it's $5 with coupon code MLB2022 just in case anyone is interested.
I actually was just watching on my laptop because I can’t use a VPN to spoof my location (I think the iOS location can’t be spoofed with a VPN). If I cast my laptop screen though it doesn’t work too bad.
During spring training when I casted from my phone it sucked though. Buffered like every 2 seconds.
If you're a new baseball fan, I recommend picking up a copy of the Baseball Prospectus 2022 annual. It is a book that covers all 30 teams with a short essay and analyzes hundreds of players with projections for 2022.
That's weird... https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/723fd53221218463252ba0d86abb54f7bb94c2a063f4d8e8ed198db7ef19b6b7
weather .com has 85% chance of TStorms at 2pm
You can spoof your gps location on android (rooted probably required). This is the program I use Fake GPS.
Make sure the mlb.tv app is not running, turn off cell location service, then pick an area out of black out restriction and then start the mlb.tv app.
apparently the tarp is on the field and the weather tonight doesn't look good. damn it, i was really looking forward to the game tonight :( september weather has been absolutely terrible
Based on the following passage from this explanation, I'm under the impression the WC counts as it's own series and therefore it's own roster submission.
> (2) Submission of Rosters. Each Major League Club that participates in a postseason series (including the Wild Card Game) must establish for each such series, from its complement of eligible players, an active roster of no more than 25 (and no less than 24) players and transmit such active roster to the Office of the Commissioner at such time before the scheduled start of each post-season series as the Commissioner or the Commissioner’s designee may set.
I was under the impression that you got the ML salary if you played for even one game. I think I'm confusing it with the health benefits for life.
I couldn't find a primary source, but this explanation goes along with what you said: https://www.quora.com/How-is-an-MLB-players-compensation-affected-when-he-gets-called-up-from-the-minors
That a player who is called up mid-season will have the ML salary prorated.
I would like to recommend picking up a copy of the Baseball Prospectus annual which comes out next month. It has a chapter on every major league team and it provides information and projections on players on every team. I buy it every year and read the Mets chapter on the train home every single time.
are we even going to play tonight? looks like lots of scattered thunderstorms right at game time :( https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/80205:4:US
It's through the xposed framework. It's called Snapprefs and it's pretty nifty. They have a couple different versions but you need older snapchat apps on your phone to support it and snapchat's phasing out the older apps soon. The new phone takes a little longer to do everything but they figured it out and it's pretty reliable now.
ERA should be taken with a grain of salt. If I recall, he does get himself into a lot trouble but usually limits the damage. He doesn't pass the eye test in my opinion. His whole bend and don't break style is great when you win, but over time that doesn't make for easy baseball.
I suggest ppl read this article: http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/124066/numbers-show-seth-lugos-success-not-likely-to-last
I don't wanna sound like I'm against Lugo, but we had similar expectations with Verret and he was exposed eventually. If he turns out to be the next Degrom I'm all for it but I can't imagine the Mets hiding this guy in Vegas this whole time. His numbers in triple AAA were atrocious and though a hitter friendly park.
I want to see him pitch against teams like Cubs
New Sound Track: Track 8. A mint condition Bill Lee card of your under $10 choice to anyone who can get me a high quality (i.e. not artifact-filled) copy. http://www.allmusic.com/album/little-big-league-original-soundtrack-mw0000626109
It wasn't well-written according to this definition. It simply wasn't effective since the author didn't provide a strong argument for why the Wilpons should be forced to sell.
I believe the Wilpons should be forced to sell and I really hope MLB finds a new reason to support the case for it, but it's not there right now, based on what we know or what this author wrote.
I don't know if it's on Audible, but "Lords of the Realm" by John Helyar is one of the best MLB-related books ever written, and it gives a great idea of how super-rich tyrants manipulated the finances of baseball to their own benefit for decades
https://www.amazon.com/Lords-Realm-Real-History-Baseball/dp/0345465245
Take the LIE to Exit 22B, Quickly bear right onto college point boulevard.
Go down college Point Boulevard until you hit Roosevelt Avenue (Target / applebees will be on your left side) Make a left onto Roosevelt Avenue.
Parking will be on your left. Side when you see the stadium on your right.
Protip: There is municipal parking in flushing by 138th and 39th avenue.
you can park here for $1.50 per hour the last time I checked. Pay from 6-10 (parking is free after 10) and you will save 20 bucks from parking. it is a 20 minute walk from flushing to the stadium.
If sunday game, parking is free but spots are hard to find.
CyTube might be a good way to keep everyone in sync. I don't think there's a way to schedule a video to start at a specific time, but you can register a channel and just keep it empty until it's time for the viewing party and then manually add and start the game.
I made a channel for us here and loaded it up with four random games if you want to see how it works: https://cytu.be/r/NewYorkMets. I think I set it so that only admin/mods can skip the videos, which is the way you would do it whenever you do these game threads.
I'm not saying you're wrong, it might be a dialectical thing when you learned Spanish or whatever. People speak differently, especially Dominicans. But in the Spanish I always heard, it was definitely molasses.

I don't find one single thing online that says it's jam. Again not saying you're wrong, just that I never heard that before you just said it.
I agree, it was classic bar food, however your experience would be sitting down, having a waitress serve you, getting a diverse selection of food that was different from what you would get inside CitiField.
Now you wait on a line to order 3 chicken fingers in a paper bag or a burger that's been wrapped up for the last hour and then hurry to grab any of the tables that are up for grabs. Not to mention, braving the crowd at the bar to grab a drink.

You guys are more than welcome to share!
I feel bad, I'm 2 weeks away from starting finals of my 1st year in law school. I'm trying to follow what's going on but I'm barely aware that baseball season has started.
However, nothing makes me happier than knowing we've already swept the Phillies!
How do you post gifs?
Edit: Yay I finally successfully posted this gif
The frames the jersey and Gary Carter cards are in? They came in like that. I'm not sure if they sell these specific ones, but I do see they have some cases. The stands that they are on are just a cheap set I got off Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HYN7N32/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
I've been watching baseball for 35 years and I'm still learning new things. No joke, go to the library and take out some books from the children's section. Sports Illustrated Kids makes some really good ones. I just read this one with my son; it's a few years old but it's a good primer on what the stats mean: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1491485841/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_YKE0T7DF4W8SY2X903PW

As far as VPNs go, I usually go with Zenmate, a free chrome extension. Tunnelbear also seems pretty good, but it has limited data. Beware of Hola! VPN - it's a sketchy service that gives you a VPN but sells your bandwith to whomever wants it.
If you're looking for a VPN I'd recommend NordVPN. Very reliable and relatively affordable. It should completely get around any and all blackouts. Just sign up ($50 per year or so I believe) and download the programme.
I have had it the past 3 years. I believe there is a seperate deal for playoffs, and dont recall if the world series is seperate as well.... I use a Vpn to watch the mets live, unblock-us. 5$ a month, and works great, can set it up on anything, ps3/roku/all that stuff, even during postseason. Also, if you watch on your computer, there are extensions you can add to chrome to watch the blackout games as well. (Zenmate is what i use for chrome if i am on the run with my laptop). However i do remember having issues with that before, especially during postseason.

Everyone, Sluggerhunt is the best goddamn book I've read this year and you all need to read it right now. Best dollar you'll spend this month, I promise.
If you liked Arrival, get the book of short stories by Ted Chiang that it came from. Guy is amazing and all the stories are weird and atmospheric sci-fi with humanity just like that one.
Can you find a source for that which doesn't come from the team or a news article?
The company responsible for the contest made a description of each name to help people understand it.
>According to the team, here are the descriptions behind each name:
>Bullheads: A local inhabitant of the Susquehanna River, a Bullhead is a bullhead catfish. The bullhead displays a tough and resilient character such as the Binghamton community.
>Gobblers: A symbol of the rich hunting culture of the area, the "Binghamton Gobblers" honors the outdoorsman lifestyle and turkeys who call Binghamton home.
>Rocking Horses: The "Binghamton Rocking Horses" celebrates the Triple Cities' rich history as the "Carousel Capital of the World."
>Rumble Ponies: A tribute to the Triple Cities' carousel heritage, the "Binghamton Rumble Ponies" is a herd of fierce horses that no carousel center pole can contain.
>Stud Muffins: While tipping a cap to the players on the field, the "Stud Muffins" celebrates the collection of carousel horses belonging to Binghamtonians.
>Timber Jockeys: Combining the fun of Minor League Baseball with the rich carousel history of the Triple Cities, the "Binghamton Timber Jockeys" pays homage to everyone that rides the carousels.
I've never seen or heard of a Rumble Pony in the Southern Tier before this contest and every search result pulls up the team name. The articles all talk about her having dreams and a book on carousels being her inspiration for the name.
Edit: Here is a better article talking about here "inspiration." Also I'm not trying to be an ass, if anyone has an actual reference to a Rumble Pony I'd love find it.
I also came new to baseball back around 2003, and after watching both teams for a season decided to go with the Mets. The Yankees, or even just the AL in general, are just... no.
Welcome to it, and you're gonna want this: Can't Anyone Here Play This Game Enjoy :)

you'd love Splickety Lit its a game based on them. nit sure if its worth that $50 though
>It's always been the humble team that can never win being the Mets
The Mets were one of the most non-humble, hated, arrogant teams in baseball for years and years and years. And it was great.
>who constantly win and always showboat with the likes of A-Rod, Clemens, etc.
The Yankees play a scratchy 1954 recording of God Bless America every 7th inning, and don't allow facial hair. They have never been "the fun team". Even when good, let alone now. It's just not what they're about. They are the anti-fun. Any fun their fanbase has comes from winning, and from shitting on the other teams' fans that win less.
You really got your team cultures mixed up if you think the Yankees are "showboat central". The Yankees are your Korean War vet great uncle who complains about kids today on their iPhones, and listens to cassettes of Perry Como in his car.
>Well the Mets are finally looking good after years and years and years of no hope, let's not cross into Yankee territory. That's how I look at things.
The only Yankee territory we are crossing into, is the media fawning over the Mets, which is extremely new territory, not seen on this side of the rivalry since roughly 1990.

>We used to consistently be top 3 in this. If we were able to make that kind of commitment now, we'd be looking at a dynasty. The payroll has been a joke for years.
I love it when people say this but ignore what actually happened. We used to spend money like morons. We spent a lot of it but we didn't spend it well. In other words, we literally had "The Worst Team Money Could Buy".
We're good now because we stopped spending money, not in spite of it. Our Madoff-derived poorness forced us to improve our organization - we had to clear deadwood, improve drafting, improve trading, and improve player development. There's no way in hell we turn around this quickly or completely if we still had lots of money. We'd have Bourn in CF, Ike Davis at 1B, Stephen Drew at short, deGrom and Matz on a different team, and the list goes on.
I like the monster rehabs a lot for my morning caffeine burst. like 8g sugar in the whole can, but it doesn't have that nasty fake sugar taste. However recently I quit that and have switched to caffeine pills.
Well, that's a little tougher. This might work on an electric grill. http://www.amazon.com/GrillPro-00150-Cast-Iron-Smoker/dp/B000FJG4R4
Also, you might try using some liquid smoke with your chicken stock(just a little goes a long way) in your slow cooker. Next best thing is to hop on a plane and come to KC.
Same for me. My dad got it for Christmas in 86, and I watched it several hundred times over the next few years. Another great book, which looks to be out of print and is about the entire 1986 postseason, rather than specifically the Mets. Well worth it though; the ALCS was pretty nuts too, especially the Donnie Moore side of the story.
This book has already been mentioned in this thread by I need to reaffirm it. Seriously, go read it. It's such a fun read and will do more to tell you about that season than anything else you could watch.

MLB is great for watching or listening to the games, but it can be a bit buggy.
