Yep, you can get a train direct from Newcastle Central Station to Sunderland. The Metro station at Central is within the same building as the main station, just turn left past the Burger King as you enter (or right as you get off the trains). From there, you want the metro trains going to South Hylton which stop at Sunderland itself.
Like Newcastle, Sunderland's Metro platform is within the same building as Sunderland train station, they share the same platform as well. Judging by Google Maps, the Travelodge doesn't seem that far to walk from Sunderland station.
For a single fare to Sunderland you'll need a three/all zone ticket, which costs £3.10. In comparison, an all zone, all day ticket costs £4.20. Trains are about every 10/15 minutes, cept in the evenings and weekend which may be longer. Sunday can be up to half an hour, for example.
You can find out more info on the Nexus website: http://www.nexus.org.uk/metro
I think you'd do best with a bike if that's the places you'll be frequenting, there's loads of bike lanes and cycle paths around town and especially the Uni area. It's less pleasant in the winter so prepare for the crap weather and make sure you got mudguards etc but otherwise you'll be fine! I'd suggest buying a second hand bike from Gumtree instead of a new one though, some great bargains on there, I got my Mrs a fully sorted mountain bike delivered to my house for £20 last week!
Downtime will give you the chance to explore the region by bike too, literally any direction from town has good bike paths / cycle lanes along the roads, especially along the river or south through Gateshead.
Rotten mate, used to live in heaton and jesmond when i was at uni and you would hear of it happening all the time.house across the street was burgled at about 2 pm broad daylight while the people living there had nipped to the shop, guys inside had barricaded the front door shut. :/ Have you tried using the find my iphone app? https://www.apple.com/uk/icloud/find-my-iphone.html hope you get sorted.
All of this! Plus the trainline will let you set up email alerts for when tickets you want to buy go on sale. Tickets only become available from 12ish weeks before the date of travel (depending on the train operator), and the cheapest ones are limited and tend to go fast.
I've only ever rented privately before getting my own place but had 2 really nice landlords both times
Might be able to find some private landlords here https://www.gumtree.com/property-to-rent/gosforth
This might also help https://www.openrent.co.uk/properties-to-rent/north-tyneside?bathrooms_max=3&furnishedType=1&acceptPets=true

I'd go for a Phantom 3 Standard. Still a great bit of kit and it is what I use. Can get a used one on gumtree for a quarter of that price with additional batteries and kit!
Thanks for the places. If you need any more advice or have any questions just let me know
I flew from London to Newcastle on Flybe for about £40 a couple of years ago, and it gets you there in 45 minutes. I expect to pay £50-80 for a rail ticket depending on how soon I book.
You could check out Blablacar, which is carsharing and is usually cheap.
Standard price seems to be £20, and it's much quicker than the Megabus.
What about Amazon? Order it now and you can pick it up tomorrow. There are dozens of options at a variety of sizes.
I wouldn’t store my bike outside. But if you have no alternative; depending on the value of bike/s, you should opt to cover them up.
Low end: tarpaulin. Low but better: specific bike cover bag. Medium: some kind of bike box/low provide shed. Medium better: a shed (tin/wood) Good: a roofed yard. Some kind of lean-to. Best: a proper water tight storage designed for bikes or similar.
The value of your bike dictates where on the scale you pick. Cheap bikes don’t warrant much expense.
As an American, all of the 'American candy' stores over here I've visited are just sad. Also mostly full of nonAmerican stuff 🤷♀️
You can get the super typical birthday cake flavor bake mix on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Betty-Crocker-Super-Moist-Rainbow/dp/B00KB5FS5Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=10WWLNF8Y0OB9&keywords=birthday+cake+mix&qid=1668623003&sprefix=birthday+cake+mix%2Caps%2C214&sr=8-3
The 'super moist' variety of Betty Crocker is generally considered better than the regular. Sometimes you can find it in the little world food section of supermarkets here as well. There are recipes online for making other stuff out of the cake mixes, like cake pops or pancakes or whatever. Also if a US recipe just says one egg, use a large egg :)
I have not been to Costco here but rumor has it they sometimes have US style birthday cakes.

This isn’t quite the same but has a similar vibe I think
Sure, yes! I'm talking about technology-oriented events published on Meetup.com. I know that other platforms also exist to help create similar groups, but at the moment I'm just focussing on Meetup as a starting point.
They have these cycle pods which are pretty good but you still need to have your own lock and chain. Unfortunately they’re right down the far side of the station which makes it seem easier for thieves but it’s also right next to a staff smoking area so there are usually some people around. I always had one of these hidden under my seat and it was amazing.
lush little jewellers in Grainger Market, called Amblerjem, written a little post on them and a few others here! https://wordpress.com/view/aroundthetoon.wordpress.com
I went to a Newcastle reddit meetup more than 5 years ago. I don't think there's been one since. There are probably plenty of things going on through meetup.com or the weekly couchsufing meet.

Cheapest way is via megabus if you dont mind being cramped for a couple hours and the damn thing probably turning up late. It picks you up from Newcastle library and drops you pretty close to the centre of Edinburgh.
If you book well in advance you might find a cheap train ticket but it will have to be well in advance.
Actually while I'm here if anyone wants to know more about this stuff, BBC did a really good doc on it (it's sad & shocking mind): https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p050zy0v/queer-britain-series-1-1-does-god-hate-queers

I have this one and it's great. I don't think they consume much power at all. It's lovely getting into a toasty warm bed.
Replying to myself to say looks like my book has cullercoats but he says he did visit South Shields. It’s Michael Pearson’s Traditional Knitting New and Expanded Edition Deal: Michael Pearson's Traditional Knitting: Aran, Fair Isle and Fisher Ganseys, New & Expanded Edition (Dover Knitting, Crochet, Tatting, Lace) https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/0486460533/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_dl_6WCZ8VHZK0K7FSMJ84XY
Under £15 if you’re interested and it has some nice history.
This is the book we've already got;
£40+ is a lot to drop on a book when you don't know if it has the pattern you want, unfortunately.
North Shields had a fishing fleet, there must have been a pattern.
When you get back on your feet, you might want to invest in one of these
Ah screw it, PM your name and address or whatever and I'll buy you one.
Sunrise and sunset are something photographers are very familiar with because of the "Golden Hour" (which is more realistically 30 minutes) where the light from the sun produces a beautiful diffused golden hue at certain times of the day in the morning and afternoon, this and the time the sun comes up changes depending on the time of the year.
Why is this important? There are a ton of "Golden hour" apps aimed at photographers out there that will not only tell you which direction the sun will be coming from, but what time the sun rises and sets as well as the weather. The one I use is one called "PhotoTime" that tells you exactly when the sun will come up on a given day and it tells you exactly which direction the sun will be rising from. Download this and arrive about an hour before the sun comes up according to the app.
You can buy 2.5kg can of kaeferbohne on Amazon, but it will set you back £35. But I’ll bet you can get it cheaper if you contact the company and order directly.
