It's not a scam, many Online ESL Companies will accept the TESOL Certificate from Global Language Training. Many of them will also accept the TESOL Certificate from International Open Academy, which you can get on Groupon for $19 https://www.groupon.com/deals/international-open-academy-787 .
It really depends on the company, as to which TESOL Certificate that they'll accept. Which Online ESL company were you going to apply to?
i was going to do this one https://www.groupon.com/deals/international-open-academy-787 is this okay and accredited? and is the exam hard or easy.
What time zone are you in? Typically, most companies are based in China, and the students have classes between 6pm and 9pm BJT on weekdays. On weekends, its 9am to 9pm BJT. If you live in the US this translates to very early morning on the East Coast (5am to 8am) and middle of the night (2am to 5am) on the West Coast. If you live in Europe, it will be more like late morning/early afternoon.
I currently work for three different companies and make a good amount of money! Feel free to pm me if you are interested in knowing more about SayABC, Gogokid, or DaDa (though DaDa is currently in somewhat of a hiring freeze). I work every day of the week for these companies and I am fully booked. I can guide you through the interview/hiring process for any/all of them!
I would suggest starting off with this simple TESOL from Groupon.
https://www.groupon.com/deals/international-open-academy-787
It only takes between 2 and 4 hours to complete, and it is $19 (sometimes it drops down to $5). All the companies I work for accept this as a solid form of certification. New regulations in China are also now requiring a TEFL/TESOL for online English teachers, so its a good idea to get started on it!
Best of luck!

Have a look at the reviews, sounds like a very badly run company!
It's very, very easy these days. I use Surfshark and it was something like $30 for a 2-year subscription. After you install it you just choose what country you want to pretend to be accessing from and click "connect." Most other VPNs will be similarly priced and quite simple to use. NordVPN is another reliable and widely used one and Windscribe is easy to use as well.
I'd highly recommend getting a VPN these days, as they're pretty cheap and with the constantly changing regulations across countries, the security and stability they offer is a pretty worthwhile investment.
Hi, if you want a TESOL/TEFL, even a cheap certificate from Groupon should suffice (just make sure it's a 120-hour course). You do not usually need both TESOL and TEFL. However, since your TESOL is from VK, it's better to get another TEFL/TESOL certificate. Good luck!
Here's a link: https://www.groupon.com/deals/international-open-academy-tesol-course
Your teaching license won’t matter. But you will need a TESOL or TEFL
Edit: here’s a Groupon for a TESOL less than $20. Make sure it’s a 120 hour certificate. It will only take a couple days to complete
https://www.groupon.com/deals/international-open-academy-tesol-course
Is this the deal? Am I getting the course for $15? Or is that what I'm paying groupon to get the deal? Sorry I've never used groupon before
A lot of online ESL companies will accept an inexpensive online TESOL Certificate. Many of them will accept the TESOL Certificate from the International Open Academy, which can usually be done within less than a week and only costs $19 on Groupon. https://www.groupon.com/deals/international-open-academy-787 .
These are the differences between TESOL, TEFL, TESL, and TOEFL:
-TESOL Certificate Course -(Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), is a simplified course that combines a TEFL Course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), and a TESL Course (Teaching English as a Second Language). TESOl Courses are usually inexpensive, and can be finished in a short period of time.
-TEFL Certificate course is usually more extensive and expensive, and is what you would take to teach abroad in countries where English isn't a native language (China, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.)
-TESL Certificate course is usually more expensive and extensive, and is for people who want to Teach English in a country where English is a Native language (Canada, Australia, etc.)
-TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is an Assessment Test of English Proficiency for Students, not a certification to teach.
Many online ESL companies require a TESOL Certificate, including Gogokid. A lot of them will accept the TESOL Certificate from IOA International Open Academy, which you can currently get on Groupon for $19. https://www.groupon.com/deals/international-open-academy-787. You should be able to complete the course within a week or less, depending on how much time you have to spend on it. VIP Kid has their own TESOL Course that they give to their teachers, and the TESOL Certificate is just for their company.
Most companies will not hire you without a certificate. You can get a cheap TEFL certificate from Groupon and finish it in a week or so (the exam is online).
I will say that a lot of these shouldn't be your destination for online teaching. That list smacks of being given a little ad money for listing them or referral money for hitting the links and so on. Seriously. And in China, they have just changed the rules. If you're interested I can tell you the first thing you should do it get an ESL certificate. MOST of them will accept this one and it's cheap. Groupon has codes to make them much cheaper. Here's the one I used when I started teaching. Sometimes there's even a coupon to make it a little cheaper than the listed price. https://www.groupon.com/deals/international-open-academy-787
Is this the course everyone here talking about? I read that you need to pay another $20 for a certificate or something but screenshotting your digital certificate is enough they say because it includes the certificate number. Can you lend a helpint hand to a friend here :D
Most of the Online ESL Companies that I know of (and I know of many) want your TESOL Certificate to be at a minimum of 120 hours. If you plan on Teaching ESL Online you should consider getting the 120 TESOL Certificate from the International Open Academy (IOA), On Groupon. The course is inexpensive, and you can finish it in a short time.
Many Online ESL Companies accept their TESOL Certificate, including SayABC. It's currently $19 on Groupon: https://www.groupon.com/deals/international-open-academy-787 . The course can be done in a few weeks, or even a few days depending on how much time you dedicate to taking the course and passing the quizzes (short).
After you finish the course you'll be able to save the Certificate to a PDF file. They will also give you the option to purchase a paper copy of your Certificate for $19.99 extra, which is completely optional. Their PDF TESOL Certificate now has a serial number on it (they didn't used to), which is what many Online ESL Companies look for on a TESOL Certificate. You will be submitting it electronically, so you really don't need a physical copy unless you just want one.

Ahh that's too bad. We had to choose a payment platform and went with Stripe because it's designed by developers so it's the least buggy/easiest to implement. We'll be adding Paypal sometime down the line as well, but that may take a while. You can always post your Paypal/Payoneer/Whatever information and have students send their payments directly to you instead. And sign up on this page https://stripe.com/global to receive a message when Stripe expands their coverage to South Africa...

It's from the discussion in the Family FB group.
An android emulator you can run on your laptop. I've used it for quite a while with no technical or compatability issues, just be aware it won't run on a potato but you definitely don't need a gaming laptop or anything like that.

This is the one I use. I tried one called VoiceMod but it wouldn't install properly.
The clownfish one is very straight forward and easy to use.
I personally use Habitica.com. It is a very easy, fun task-managing software where students can create their own "avatars" and they earn gold to buy cool items for their avatar! You can use their built in rewards, or create your own digital awards as well. I probably wouldn't recommend it for little kids, but it is great for 8+ since that's the age where they are into competitive gaming.
literally anything in the 50 dollar range, i have bluetooth 5.0 headphones from boltune (chinese brand) multidevice, active noise cancelling, iv tested them upto 50 feet, battery is like 30 hours. and has the option of plugging in if the battery dies or you want thm to be plugged in cmae with cables for charging and 3.5mm and a hardcase and it folds for easy transport. best overear and cheap headphones iv ever had.there are many other option but i would suggest overear headphones, better sound quality and better battery https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cancelling-Headphones-Boltune-Bluetooth-Microphone-Black/dp/B07R5JKZJV
I know this post is a little old but I just found this green screen and it's funny and would probably do the trick.

There's actually a lot of schools that also discriminate on your location. So it seems like the trend in OnlineESL is you probably want to invest into a VPN. Keep seeing advertisements for NordVPN being good with gaming so therefore I assume it's reliable for online teaching.

You need something that can run Skype, and can download those 3rd party applications. A Chromebook won't work. I would know. I have one. Amazon sells cheap refurbished computers. Get one with 8 gig ram. I recommend this headset.
