Pretty much exactly. When I say 'shade' I mean one of these, which basically cuts the light to 'strong indirect sun'. It keeps them more humid and they just look obviously bigger and happier, with larger leaves and more peppers.
People here thinking I mean under the porch or something, not the case, lol.
My secret weapon last year (not really a secret) was fish emulsion, diluted in water, every two weeks or so. This is what I used: Just Scentsational TP-128G Trident's Pride Organic Liquid Fish Hydroponic Soil Fertilizer, 128 oz (1 Gallon) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I727QJU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PRW6ZBKNWFRH9AXRRG4M
I have gotten a flat peace of wood from work and had them cut it to size. Then drilled 3 1/2in holes about 20 or so that to keep the cups from falling when I'm in there messing with them lol.
As the foil that is reflecting sheets I think it is a fire blanket or something like that. I have gotten it from Batman/Make_1t_Wayne. I have no heater but have two fans.
As for the light, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08D6H3VYR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
For my AeroGarden https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010NBJZLK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Npk numbers only really need to have lower nitrogen and higher phosphorus and potassium. Like a 5-10-10 or such. A 1-2-2 is same ratios it's saying per part you have twice as much phosphorus and potassium as nitrogen. Very low doses are best for seedlings half dose works well. Like the seaweed extract usually has a good combo.
You can always get a all purpose like miracle grow starter fert or all purpose plant food. Just cut the dose in half. So if it's two drops per gallon use 1 drop. It'll dilute the potency which is what you want. Only need to feed lightly, not every time you water either. One basic kind here is neptunes, like [https://www.amazon.com/Neptunes-Harvest-FS118-Seaweed-Fertilizer/dp/B009HLVIY0/](https://www.amazon.com/Neptunes-Harvest-FS118-Seaweed-Fertilizer/dp/B009HLVIY0/
That'll give you a starting point to see.
This, and it looks like not all peppers are submerged.
Gotta get some glass fermentation weights to keep them under the liquid.
https://www.amazon.com/4-Pack-Fermentation-Glass-Weights-Handle/dp/B076V66FZ4
919 grams of peppers 20 grams of salt
We cut off the pepper stems, weighed to about 2lbs (919 grams for us)
Started to add peppers to a food processor, processed, added a little salt, processed, added more peppers, processed, added more salt, etc. Until we were out of peppers and salt.
Spooned into a clean jar, wiped the rim, placed a lid with an air lock on and here we are.
These are the air locks I am using.
yeah, you can use it both ways, but it is highly effective as a soil drench. go 10% of the strength for foliar, and adjust to ph 5.8 I would also add a little fulvic or humic acid if you had some, it helps.
I personally have best and most notable results using it as a weekly soil drench onto pre-moistened soil. I usually add a little bit of NPK fertilizer to help the uptake. (also, I put humic/fulvic in everything) adjust ph to 6-6.5
Here's the stuff I use. I like it because the guaranteed analysis lists major hormone levels.
https://www.amazon.com/Soluble-Supplement-Blue-Planet-Nutrients/dp/B07C572JVN/
I bought this one from Amazon [link]. If you follow all instructions, it's easy to use. It doesn't show exact values of pH & NPK, but you can clearly see where you're lacking / having too much. I had suspicion of low P and high N, this test confirmed it clearly.
True thank you! I’m actually going to go with these https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Gallons-Thickened-Nonwoven-Handles/dp/B01I1D9QAM/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=2KH3EY09YAOQ6&keywords=7+gallon+root+pouch&qid=1655164759&sprefix=7+gallon+root+pouch%2Caps%2C213&sr=8-8
They look like better quality material and have handles
Well personally I highly recommend SpiderFarmer cos that's what I use and it's been working out real nicely, I'll link the specific one I use below
Mine is not the 2022 edition but I can only assume they've improved on the old design! 2022 Newest SPIDER FARMER SF-1000 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07TSBCRL8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_6ERCER6K4Q29VHVAHNZH?psc=1
I start my seeds in those little tiny clear 12 cell trays with coir, peat & vermiculite. Then move them up to these:
Those are 3 inch square pots, I think. When they're big enough, I repot into these:
These are half gallon pots. I let them fill these out, then repot with a mixture of fresh soil & what they were in, right back into the same pot. When that's all filled up again, I repotted in 1 gallons that I had laying around.
Next, they'll go into 7 gallon grow bags outside. I use a mix of compost, sand, perlite and peat moss. I really hope I get better results than last year. Always learning😁
No problem, here’s a link to the ones I’m using. Gardzen 10-Pack 3 Gallons Grow Bags, Aeration Fabric Pots with Handles https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CTC1ZV4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_S0YJAZKVM8W4FV90KDNF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
They’re cheaper than pots, better drainage, they’re super portable. And the roots don’t get root bound. Also, look up Pepper Geeks on YouTube, lots of good stuff for beginners there.
If you have a short season I would advise against topping. Honestly I don’t think it is worth it even if you had a long season.
In the past I have had good luck with the Fox Farm trio and I have recently been likening the Neptunes Harvest fish emulsion Used in combination with a couple of the Fox Farm products.
They barely do the job. Plants like to get leggy. Lettuce plants just bolt instantly. They work for seedlings though and even basil. I just gotta keep em super close.
I think I have the same grow lights! This gives me hope that mine will do okay. Also tells me that I may need to move my lights closer to the plants. Is it these? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08JLLT777
I definitely have the same waste issue. But I was able to find some cheap label tape on Amazon (4 pack for $15 instead of crazy expensive Brother P-Touch brand. And so far, the adhesive seems to be stronger too. Link - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01511D0GS/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_glt_i_3T7Q8PEWC14TSZM0KH8N?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Barely do the job. I have to keep em close or seedlings get leggy.
would be better buying a grow light stand like this one I got that lets you hang a 4 ft light, and move it up or down. I think you can get 2 ft, 3 ft, etc, and get cheaper lights as well, so you can use it as the plants get bigger.
Its great light but not for that price. I have it and love it. It only cost me $75.00 Root Farm All-Purpose LED Grow Light, 45W - Broad Spectrum Grow Lamp, For Indoor Hydroponic Plants, Energy Efficient https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074SG33M2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_QR9KVS7YF2113S87PJD5
I wouldn't recommend them. Here's a good and affordable light that will give you a great indoor grow, I use it myself! https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Samsung-Dimmable-Sunlike-Spectrum/dp/B08772CTK7/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=3UQSXN6W33C3P&keywords=vivosun+grow+light&qid=1638607040&sprefix=vivosun+%2Caps%2C204&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A2PQGFJXA...
Only a few weeks ago did I move it under a Mars Hydro TS600, all its life before it was under a Kolem 35Watt Grow Light which surprised the hell outta me cuz this plant likes to turn into a huge green pom pom, I have to prune like nuts. Never thought 35 watts was enough for something like this. I pruned most of the bottom cuz only the canopy really gets enough light

It works but is slower acting than something like this , which lived used with great success on peppers. You can mix it directly in the watering can.
I really appreciate this exchange!
When I was in S. California, I had them under my avocado tree where they got filtered sunlight for a lot of the day. They were chest height, getting fed the same nutrients my pot plants were being fed. I never made the connection to the light levels, I just thought my pepper trees looked good there.
Now I'm growing outdoors in Front Range of Colorado. We are at moderately high elevation so the sun is quite powerful here and I noticed my plants leaves droop a little bit during the long hot days of July. Thats when I added added a 30% shade and they explode.
I also have an indoor 'arboretum' (my small office overcrowded with my workbench, racks of lights and way too many plants). Manzano and Rocoto does AMAZING indoors, as does chiletepin and they get surprisingly big under 100W of flurorescent.
I think you are really going to like this video; I am still really aspiring to. 2407 peppers from one, 11 month old Dorset Naga plant.
I use tomato feed untill flowers then this pepper focus once flowering/fruiting. Fixes that issue with leaves and gives other nutrients for good flowers and fruit. pepper focus
You lights should be about 4 inches away from the plants so way closer than you have them now. You likely need to invest in more, stronger lights for these plants.
I’ve had success with these as cheap LEDs to start seedlings with.
Monios-L T5 LED Grow Light, 2FT... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QJXK6XD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Sure thing. I've been growing for many years and seem to have finally found my stride.
These are the lights I use. I go with the 2 footers and you can link them all together so you only have to worry about using one timer/plug. They are pretty basic but are full spectrum LEDs so they are cheap, cheap to run and last forever. This is my third season with them and I have no complaints.
If you buy in bulk they're only about 10p each I think https://www.amazon.co.uk/Disposable-Red-Plastic-Party-Cups/dp/B07MFM86H5/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=Party+cups&qid=1617535993&sr=8-5
I started them in my AeroGarden and as soon as it's time to transfer I put them in double cups. In double cups I use Coco coir perlite blend give them some nutrients. Once they have a good root system and drink up all the nutrients, that's when I give them regular water and when they drink that I'll go back to nutrients.
I made a wood platform and drilled 3.5in holes and put the cups in there so they wouldn't tip over. I have two fans, two katchy systems they catch Nats and little flies that can be sucked up. All my plants that are fruiting or flowering are staying in double cups, everything else will be going into 1 to 3 gallon grow bags. I covered the wood with some reflection sheets so plants can get a bit better light then the reflection that comes off the tent.
Forgot to say I put some cley pebbles on top.

The LED grow lights I picked up this season ran me around $70 for two 4ft lights off Amazon. So far they seem good. The shop lights with bulbs came out to $50 for two 4ft lights plus shipping fees of around $15.

I don’t know what white leaves means, but I’m also new to this. I bought this kit last season, and it’s really helped me! It’s not the best, but it’s pretty good at helping me with all sorts of issues.
Good luck!

Planted my seeds about 20 days ago and very impressed with the growth.
I’m starting them extra early because I have the room to grow inside this year. Zone 9B.
Also got an extra tall mini greenhouse I’m excited to see how it does!
Thanks. These have potential to be really cool if they survive the beating they took to fit in such a small pot.
Succulent Pots | Ceramic Bonsai... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VLHL45V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Amazon! 7.99$ and you get em next day.
This is what I use. You'll need some 7.0 calibration solution and pH storage solution. Honestly tho, the strips are probably fine 98% of the time. It's just a question of whether you want to add vinegar to ensure pH is low, or go with a pure ferment sauce relying on the fermentation to bring the ph down.

I purchased 2 of these "GE Lighting PAR38 Full Spectrum LED Grow Light for Indoor Plants - 32W" grow bulbs. One is lighting the garden, and I'm showing the other bulb.
I've only had it for 4 days, so I cannot report on it's longevity (if anyone has any experience here please chime in), but I'm impressed so far. It seems well built, and VERY bright.
Plenty enough for a small garden in the corner.
The bulb itself runs fairly cool (for a light bulb).. the sides and the fins stay cool enough that you wont burn yourself if you brush up against them, but the lens is hot enough to start fires, so make sure you have a sturdy place to hang this, since it has a ceramic heat sink it is fairly heavy (~0.5lb). It is recommend that you hang it vertically in a non enclosed fixture for proper cooling.
The bottom mark on the tape measure is even with the seedling level at 2ft (24 inches) the top mark is at light level.
Like I said in the video, I think this light has the power to cover about 16 x 16 in square in "sunshine power" light. The bulb has a 3 yr warranty, and is UL listed.
amazon link (I bought this with my own money, and I'm not being paid.)
It's a Deep Water Culture grow so it's hydroponic and there is an airstone in the container. I'm using General Hydroponics Flora Series for nutes. The light is from GreenGo I got it off of Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Switch-GREENGO-Spectrum-Indoor-Plants/dp/B07L353RXL
Check out the video in the comments it shows the inside.
With advanced nutrients i mean this: https://www.amazon.it/ADV-Nutrients-Perfect-Micro-Bloom/dp/B00PAY7O6Y . At the moment the plants are growing in similar way. But the AN is a 3 part fert (GMB), so I can modify the ratio of the three parts in the various stages of growth, (f.ex: more grow in veg stage, more bloom when plant start to flower) instead CF which is a 1 part fert (but more specific for peppers, AN is formulated for 420)
I got this one - Amazon Link for this season.
Picture with my peppers when I put them in: https://imgur.com/xxCBzwS
It's 8'x4' and 4' high. Has held up okay I guess, but the plastic is pulling away from the doors and the zippers are detaching. I'll probably just build one next year.
Sorry - I must have botched the upload of my photo. Here's a link to one of the Amazon vendors that has a photo of the Zambia.
